as we broadcast tonight's match with Purdue Polytenic in Englewood, >> who I'm told is up to no good. Could not be more excited to join you here on the broadcast. Looking forward to spending time really breaking down uh how this how this will look. So, could not be more excited to be here with you. >> I love your attitude. >> Yep. So, why don't we introduce our players for tonight? Uh these are specifically going to be the varsity team players. Um, our players tonight on varsity are Captain Jaden aka Blue Jay who is an Isabelle main, Izzy aka Pineapple Queen, who is a Pyra and Mithra main, Kamura aka Bluey Pogers, who is a Corin main, Deacon aka Dry Dirt, who is an ice climbers main, and Eli aka Webbles who plays literally everyone. We're not sure who he's going to play, but >> could be anything.
We'll start off by pledge of allegiance, please. I pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, we'll move on to the student recognition. So, we're going to start off with the MCHS boys wrestling academic allstate team members. So, I'm going to ask Phil to come up. >> You go up here with them. >> Okay. Um, so we have three. I'm going to talk about all three, but only one is here tonight. So, um, first off, I want to say I believe this is the first year that we've had more than two academic all-state honores, uh, which is a big thing for wrestling. And, uh, I'll kind of throw myself under the bus historically with wrestling. Um, you know, o teachers over the past 30, 40 years could tell you like we are not the team that often has a lot of academic all-state kids.
Wacka 8HS television and well we're not going to have there's an item on the agenda that we are going to be um putting off till a later date and that's item C. Um item D, we will have WACA board member proposal, consent agenda includes approval of gifts and donations, approval of grants, minutes from March 25th, 2026, reports of school committee members, and then we will adjourn. And um I see that everybody is here. And is everybody okay with the order of business this evening? >> Yes. >> Excellent. Okay. Next up, I will ask if there's anybody either online or in the audience who wants to uh offer a public comment. Come on up. >> And and we should probably just be clear when we open the public hearing for the budget, they will also need to have an opportunity. >> Yes. If anyone is here to make comment on the budget, um you will have an opportunity to do that.
We are uh six of us out of seven are here. We have a quorum and at this time I would like to welcome any public comment. Uh so if you are a member of the public and you would like to make a comment and you have registered with our recording secretary Nan, please do so.

>> [clears throat] >> We're going to do the Pledge of Allegiance. Ready? Begin. I pledge allegiance [singing] to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Hearing none, members, any questions? Chair, questions? Uh no. Okay, I do. I have a number of questions, surprise, surprise. Um okay, so so this program has been in effect, correct? Yes. Okay, how long has it been in effect? Um we have data going back to 2019. Okay. Uh and when did the contract expire? Uh contracts they're in different stages of expiration, but we've continued um them until we can get the new RFPs out. Why is that? Why is it taking you so long? My understanding is an RFP was ready to go, and then it didn't go, and now we're continuing. Well, we put one out, and then we have others in line. Um it takes working with the AG to get the terms right, and um we're making some effort there to ensure that it meets more of the um IDIQ requirements that the AG likes to see in these job order contracts, so we're making those changes now.
How do you work as a team? How do you um divide up responsibilities and how do you provide a product at the end of that time? And the last one is iteration, which is the fourth pillar of project- based learning. Is how do you teach students that not every time your first product is your best product, but that you have to keep iterating and how do you work through that iteration process and how do you demonstrate you're learning about that career through your product? And the products can be varied. um it can be an actual thing that they do um a structure that they make or it could be as simple as a graph paper and a design on a graph paper. So we want to make sure that they have the ability to choose what kind of product works for their project menu. This project is just one example of how we're making career awareness a positive, a factual and an easy to implement um place.
>> I motion carries five to zero. >> 6.2 Approval of meeting minutes for the special board meeting on March 25th. >> I move to approve the meeting the meet of the meeting the minutes from the March 25, 2026 special board meeting. >> I second. All in favor? I >> I motion carries 5 to zero. >> Okay. Uh superintendent report. >> Thank you, Madam President. Uh number of things happening as we open up uh the last quarter of the year. I will let people know just the way the calendar works this year. This fourth year, normally the fourth quarter is the longest quarter. It is actually the shortest quarter this year. There's uh for the I'm sure there's a few kids in the audience that may be counting. It's like uh about 31 or 32 days left, so there's not much time left. Want to recognize uh Miss Stone and her uh and the and her team in the business services department.
For more than two decades, she poured her heart into the classroom, touching the lives of countless students and staff with kindness and patience that were felt um the moment you stepped through her door. Denise exemplified what it means to serve children and families and her legacy will be felt for years to come through the students she taught, the colleagues she befriended and the families who trusted her with their children each day. And you know um Pimabute is known for this sense of family, the familial relationships that they have with each other, the staff, but also uh this notion of family um with their their parents and their students and the grandparents and um it even ex you know and really Denise just exemplified that she was such a a a just the shining example of the the closeness and the familiarity. Um and she even extended it to her own family.
>> Could be anyone. Could be nest. >> Could be Could be you. >> Could be Could be me. Maybe they put you in the game. >> That would be incredible. >> I know he'd win if he played as you. I know he'd win. >> Um, and Asher aka Library Boy, who is our resident Mario main. And our starting map for tonight is small battlefield. >> And we all know that that's a small battlefield. >> It is definitely a small battlefield, but they're definitely going to have enough room to run around and try and hit each other cuz keep in mind this is a fighting game, you know. >> All righty. So, >> we're not promoting violence. No, no, no. Not, no, no, not really. >> Anti We are anti violence. >> Oh, yeah. We're peaceful. We're peaceful over here. >> All right. But why don't we talk about the u how they're going to be playing this match?
Uh we have guys that do what they need to do to stay eligible, but uh anymore the past between five to seven years, we've made a really hard push to get these guys to excel in all aspects of their life. And uh and we're doing that. I again, I don't recall a time we've ever had three. And next year, we're going to have uh between five and seven uh academic all state if those uh sophomores stay on track. So, uh, just to, you know, to clue you in, to be eligible for academic all state, you have to be a junior or a senior. Uh, first team ac sorry, second team academic all state is, um, 3.25 GPA to 3.75 unweighted. And then first team is 3.75 unweed and above. So, all three of our guys uh, this goound were first team academic all state. So, 375 unweighted GPA.
Uh thank you, Paul. >> A little bit later. Hello. >> Hi. Thanks. Okay. >> Oh, sorry. The green. Yeah. On the There you go. Green lighting. >> There we go. >> Beautiful. >> Hi, Andrew Pantini, 270 Civville Road. Uh, mine's certainly a little budgety, but um, and I'm happy to stay for the comment later. Um, but, you know, I understand this is kind of a one-way conversation. Uh, right now you're not allowed to give feedback. Maybe >> that is true.
And the sort of stipulations around public comment are that each person gets three minutes. Um they can speak to an item. Uh it doesn't have to be on our agenda, but it does have to be related to the what the schools actually can do. Um, and we would appreciate if all or any members of the public giving public comment did so um, respectfully. >> All right. >> Not a chance. >> Uh, if you could give for us your name and your relationship to the schools. >> Uh, Doug Selwin. Um, I'm a community member. >> Great. >> Um, I have a few things to say quickly, I hope. um first of all has to do with volunteering in the schools. Um a couple of us went in to renew our quaries and or whatever it whatever you call it that you get the official yes you can come into schools and it was near impossible to do and we came away with the impression that you really don't want volunteers and I suspect that's not accurate.

Please come on out. >> [laughter] >> Ms. Miranda is here to share with us a little bit about the upcycle center. Oh. Any discussion? Uh thank you for the donations that we've received and thank you to those teachers that are willing to take on additional duties. >> [clears throat] >> Anything else? I'm good. Okay. We'll call a vote. Aye. Aye. Aye. All right. Moving on to number five, hearing of persons wishing to address the board. Um you're going to meet with the um when I open the hearing. Yes, that's going to be a little bit later. Thanks. Um so the first is I'm going to go over the the rules, so to speak. The public may address the board on any matter pertaining to the school district that is not on the agenda. Members of the public may sign up requesting to address the board by filling out a request form and turning it into the board president prior to start of the meeting. Unless otherwise determined by board, each person is limited to 3 minutes and 20 minutes per topic if multiple people speak.
>> happened in the contract prior to the to the the what? I mean, you obviously you obviously worked with the AG on those, so what's different? Um that was um before my time, and um I'm not sure how that was processed, but we work closely with the AG on all of our contracts. >> Right, but in the meantime, this has been ongoing, so you then you guys not have the time to meet with the AG to get this moving? Um we are it is moving. Yeah, but after how many how long? It's it well, we put one out, we have others that are going out. Yes. Which is why we support the resolution. >> you do. And why do you think we put the resolution? Because there's been a delay, because you've not been getting it out timely. That's why we have these resolutions. So, I'm glad that you folks are in support of it, but just being in support is not enough.
We're aligning existing standards to real world applications to make learning far more tangible. Um, we want to make sure that by the time our students leave elementary school and are ready for middle school, they are ready for the next step, which is our career exploration. So, thank you for your time and I'm going to have our assistant director talk about Madame President, members of the board, superintendency, I'm going to talk to you about the >> You want to introduce yourself? >> Yes. >> I'm Patty Fernandez, assistant director of curriculum instruction. >> Thank you. And our support plan. So, since we started uh two years ago working in this project. Our goal has been to partner with the sites with the leaders and the teachers to make sure that we co-create uh what what we're presenting to you now. And throughout this work, we also identify different needs for support.
