Actually, Kamora's BF. Uh you could see Kamora in the background actually behind Jaden just uh lounging in the chair. Yep. Looking real awesome. >> So, talk me through the uh the ears that uh that we've got going on right there. >> That is what's known as Jaden's cosplay. He wears those ears as a good luck charm of sorts. and they sometimes get in his face, but but um basically they make him look more like his character and that puts him in the zone. It's basically him telling his brain, "Okay, it's time to play some Smash Bros." >> All right, let's get back to some Smash Bros. >> You better believe it. And Jaden did not lose a stock, so he does not have to jump off the edge. Planting a land mine down really early, so Cloud's got to keep that in mind. Hitting hitting Jaden with a cross slash ability.
MCS Food Services has one. Community Foundation of Madison, Jefferson County donated $2,800 to be used to assist in paying student lunch debt. Technology has one. We have an anonymous donation of $60 to be used to pay on two students overdue balances. Madison Junior High School has two. Milton Family Dentl donated uh $500 to the girls basketball team to be used to purchase warm-ups for the team. Second one, Richard and Shiloh Russell donated $552 to the girls basketball team to be used to purchase warm-ups for the team. Madison Consolidated High School, they have five. First one, Encore Theater of Madison donated $500 to the theater to assist in frozen puppet cost. Number two, Dr. Matthew Adams donated $22 to the science department for the greenhouse fund. Third one, Eminem towing donated $2,000 to the football team to be used to purchase new practice jerseys. Fourth one, Floyd Nancy Davis donated $500 to to C Club Cub Diesel.
Uh once we get those folks together, they will come our our true literacy pilot committee and and then we will be able to take a look at um the the two literacy curricula and vet it out over the course of next year. So we're excited. We have chosen EL which is a highly rated program by curate HQIM. Both of these are highly rated by curate and ed reports which we have used very closely. Um and CKLA which is from amplify. So we we're excited. Um we know that no program is perfect. There are going to be some weaknesses in it and that's is why we have to do a pilot and we have to make sure that we are vetting things out as well as we possibly can. That is it for me. Um but there will be plenty more especially in that realm um you know by by June but most importantly you'll be you'll be getting some significant reports next year as we really get into that pilot process.
And I told her, I I tell her frequently, "Well, we doubled the participation of the PTA of PTO because we used to have like three and now we have like seven or eight little little steps, baby steps." Um um Full House at our our family events. Uh we did a celebration of growth last year, which I'm going to do again this year, the first week of June. Classroom teachers can pick um with their students and their families a day during the first week of June where they pick a 45 minute to an hour time and the the they invite their parents in and their parents come in and the students do whatever it is they want to do to show off the learning that they've done. So we're going to do that again this year because that was super popular and we have some parent coordinators this year which you know really is is going to help.

So, we're going to do that again this year because that was super popular and we have some parent coordinators this year which you know really is is going to help. Also in terms of next steps, we have to hire a phenomenal principal. Um, we always need to start with our why. Uh, increase parent communication. Um, we are going to work with is it SSOS?
And we believe that we are able to move forward with the utilization of some of those funds to put in a 6-foot black fence that would start on the left hand side and go all along the tree line down the rear all the way into the back. And it kind of goes right behind the basketball courts there and then it meets where another fence ends. So if you can picture that or if you've ever been there and if not we can walk it together if you'd like. So it's a wonderful walk. And um and so we we have put out an RFP for that. And um I have a quick question. Yep. >> Is this a change from the fencing that the facilities committee know? And the security task force did like last year? >> it's the that's the design. Yep it'll have the large double swing opening in the front and then we're even going to add >> off this walkway.
There was a There's a You have a motion and a second. Yeah, we have a motion and a second. Uh so, roll call vote. Oh, me I I No. I'm an I. I. Thank you. Uh we're going to go to seven, monthly items and financial reports. 7a, monthly approval of warrants. Do I have a motion? I move [laughter] approval. I'll second. >> [cough] >> Okay, discussion on the warrants. I'll go first. Um I'm having a question. Let me get to it on here. On page one, the lockdown toilets. Um So, I can get a toilet in Is that every classroom now? I just curious. Yes, after last year we had had the lockdown, Michelle had had tasked Mindy, who's our business services assistant and handles all the accounts payable, accounts receivable, all that good stuff, pays the bills. She had tasked her with researching some portable toilets because if we were in the classroom for an extended period of time, there's always big and little people that need to use the restroom.
Deborah >> Deborah Halbert, Vice President Academic Strategy, University of Hawaii System. So, Deborah, are you aware of this of these um solutions and and issues cuz UH is named in in the in the >> In the resolution, yeah. So, are you familiar that the community colleges have instituted this program starting back in 2012? I am generally familiar with our efforts to reduce energy use on the campuses. I don't know any of the specifics about the uh programs that the different campuses are involved in. However, I can communicate back and ask for updates from them. >> hope because I understand all of the community colleges instituted this program, and all of them have um um gotten a lot of savings and more efficiency. Um the total cost um for the program uh over the this whole thing over the many years, but it's more than paid off for itself and that, uh, it was recommended for Manoa to do it and Manoa has never done it.
So they were published last year, earlier last year and the name was uh shifted from Korean literacy to Korea awareness. And also the grade bands the it had a a different breakdown like for example they they had K2 standards and then two four standards and then it there was a lot of overlapping. So then they changed it to K5, 68 and then 912 now to to be more consistent. All right. The only other thing I say is the the internships are absolutely key. All these discussions are going on about internships for kids. That's what keeps them engaged. I want to encourage you as much as possible just to get them in the building even if they're sharpening pencils or caring neighbors just so we can see how the operation works. I think that's how you get fantastic. So, thank you. >> We'll wrap up with a question for Mr.
Correct. >> Correct. So the one that's in like for me for me that one's on the >> So we have to come up with our top five, right? >> Right. So the blue one >> that you're So you're just saying that one. Yeah, purple. >> I don't know. >> So we would pick that one, right? >> I would pick the purple one. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Adequately and what? >> Improve opportunities and outcomes for all students. >> I don't It's on page two at the top. Got you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So that's one. So that's one. >> I think adequately and equitably fund district schools to the national median people per funding. >> I think that's important. Local control is I think also important. >> That too. Um, the transparency one is always good. Obviously, they're all good. >> And then I like school safety and security.
>> Okay. I I just wanted to make sure because it didn't specifically call it out. >> Certainly. Yes. Um, Mr. Member Owens, um, sparked a question with one of his questions. So, uh, out of, uh, all of these applications, which is marvelous, by the way, um, are we looking at, um, are they foreign national teachers or are these teachers that are currently because I know that we we're losing quite a few of those foreign national teachers because of visa? >> That's right. Yes. Yes, of course. Yes. We we have a strong we always get strong applications. from our foreign national teachers. So, we do have some additional foreign nationals be adding for next year, but we have lost about over 24 I think is where we're at at this point in time. We losing uh primarily through the J1 process. >> They've reached the end of their visa contracts and so they're they're obligated to return to their home country for two years and then they can seek again another J1 opportunity with us.
He actually did not use that ability at all. >> Cloud seems to be uh a little bit better at this point >> in the match than the Pac-Man was before cuz remember Jaden did not take any damage. >> Funny percentage. That's kind of funny. >> Yep. Oh, and there's that uh there's that thing I mentioned earlier laying plenty of landmines, Claude rolling right into it. So, basically, when Jaden lays one of those landmines, when you walk over it, it basically hits you uh basically takes you up towards the blast zone and you can't really get out of it. Kind of like that. And Jayen can follow you and hit you with an up air, hitting you even higher. Pretty crazy. But yeah, Jaden's pretty much just keeping all those landmines down. See, see, there's another one. And Cloud's also keeping his distance cuz remember the limit from earlier.
Fifth one, 88 King Buffet donated $100 to the class of 2027. 26-108 approval of field trip request. There are several of these. So the first one, we have an o overnight field trip request from high school FFA adviser Amanda Briggs to take 12 FFA students to compete in the vet science class and attend the state FFA convention on June 16 through 18 of 2026 at Noblesville, Indiana. Second one, we have an overnight field trip request from Shelby Green, high school science teacher, to take 12 science olympiad students to Northridge High School, Mbury, Indiana on March 27th through 28th, 2026 to participate in the science olympiad. Third one, we have requests from high school biology teacher Kelly and environmental science teacher Tom Ferry to take 40 students to the Louisville Zoo on April 16th of 2026. Number four, we have a request from athletic director Devin Bryley for approval of the following out ofstate athletic events.
>> Thank you. >> Just ask one question. When you talk about the pilot process is that basically teacher or a couple teachers basically using the curriculum throughout this year with their students see how it goes. So we're so we have not finalized with the two uh companies about whether or not we truly can go full year, but the goal our goal is to do uh two teachers at each grade level in each program and to do it full year so there's no loss of instruction at all. So we don't lose any continuity for the kids. We we would prefer to start in know September, go all the way through June regardless of which program we end up choosing. Um and With that comes training that will begin actually in May or June of this year, call it in August and then throughout next year for the folks that are actually implementing the pilot program, but it will be a full implementation.
Also in terms of next steps, we have to hire a phenomenal principal. Um, we always need to start with our why. Uh, increase parent communication. Um, we are going to work with is it SSOS? Is that how it goes? Kelly was talking about the progress. So, I was really excited when I learned about the work that you did and the and the progress that you made. Um so the school will be working with SSOS um next year and then we're just I think the goal here is to stay the course. Um focus on the needs of the students. I tell them every day we can do hard things. This is important. You can do this and I or we are not going to give up on you and the kids buy into that and I've noticed a lot more stamina and excitement. I do want to tell you one really special thing though.

Now that's crazy because our goal was 500.
>> Yep. And then we're going to add a a gate where the wooden path the trail meets so we can have access to that. And and the only change though I transparently that that was quoted at 4 feet. >> Right. And we will go just to 6 feet. Not higher but 6 feet. Main reason for that would be a couple. So we want to secure the area and what I mean by that is actually balls. A lot of balls are we're losing and are going over. So we want to make sure that we can contain that. But also the inability to like hop over it really easily is is important when you're just thinking about the defense line and and what you know we want to accomplish. So that would be the only change would be just the height would go up 2 feet. Yep.
So, she found these They're kind of like It almost looks like a Home Depot bucket kind of situation with a seat on it, but it has a privacy tent that goes around it. And they were They were a little costly, so we were kind of trying to find some different deals that were going on. Mindy's good at finding those deals. So, we did end up ordering them so that we have them in each classroom if we did have an extended lockdown. So, that $1,000 covers all the classrooms? Yeah. That's great. It's my understanding that Mindy went back and forth with the vendor quite a bit and explained that we're a public school and this is what we're doing and we want to make sure we have these things for our our students and our adults, and they brought the price down quite a bit after some negotiating back and forth.
So, I'm I'm really wondering why why it's such, uh, success at the community colleges beginning 2012 and seeing the success and seeing the savings happen in the matter of several years, uh, but it's happening and many of those efficiencies are continuing as of today and there's other contracts that have since been, uh, gotten into, but Manoa has not. So, I'm wondering why Manoa spends more on electricity and and some of these other areas and certainly could use the efficiencies. So, I'm just, uh, you know, disappointed that nobody here from DOE, uh, I mean, from the university is here to to really explain why it is that we have embarked on it and what are we doing? Uh, I do understand that they are working on something, but I don't know the details. So, I was hoping that they would be here to give me the details.
Heare. >> Thank you, Madam President. So, for our I was principal Patterson. I haven't memorized names. I would uh >> Sarah. Yes. Um on your slide you talked about positive behavioral impact and uh I'm a firm believer that when we get kids um aligned with something that they're passionate about that it has you know um positive ramifications for them in terms of just focus with their schoolwork and whatnot. I was curious um on the statement, was there something specific that you did to to measure that behavioral impact? For instance, were there students that teachers had had um maybe some difficulties with challenging behaviors that they specifically reported fewer incidents after instituting the program? >> Yes, you're absolutely right. some of our students who typically struggle in high sensory environment sometimes um recess PE music sometimes students who struggle when they're not engaged enough they're bored behaviors start um start poking their partner start messing with things um we don't have to be called to those classrooms during empower you time um for those students who might typically show those behaviors in other areas it's kind of a perfect a perfect blend of both it's not completely high sensory environment um because there's lots of calm collaboration, discussion, teamwork, team building going on.
