Cuz I know you shared something with me one time, so that'd be great. One of the companies I think that I gave to Steven, their company has grant stuff, too, um that they would be willing to help you find grants for it. Okay. Um I'll email you tomorrow, cuz it's not the initial one. It was the second one. Fantastic. We would love that. Yeah, anything, right? It's okay. Yeah? Yeah, send it my way. Thank you. Yeah. Um Also just wanted to share in addition, you know, to opening of the bathrooms, uh you know, BHS administration have been experiencing an uptick in, you know, vaping. Uh so so more, right? And um since we've opened the restrooms, and um So we you know, it's it it expends a significant amount of their time when you have to um you know, work with students to determine if they are or not, if they have things on them or not, and the whole search process, all of that.
Okay. And that's just that liability from that new law. So, anyone who's filed any kind of claims against the school district, everyone who is a member of SELF is sharing sharing the cost of that. So, even though our district has not had any claims filed, if let's say in that pool was another district in the valley that had a big claim that was millions of dollars, that's what we're splitting up the cost. They base it on our ADA, so they have the cost for the year, and then they divide it between all the districts charged based on your ADA. Okay. And it's your ADA at the time cuz some of our years there we had a thousand students. So, our assessments are higher even though we currently have 300 less than that in students. >> [laughter] >> Thank you for clarifying that. Um and then my last question was on page eight, the Eagle Academies.
Um hearing none, um Jessie, can we have you back? Uh so, I I I I do acknowledge um your statement about clarifying uh what we're defining CIP projects. How does the DOE define it? Uh CIP, so that that would be the bond funded uh projects. Right. Okay. And if it's not bond funded, it's not CIP? Uh, no. It's using operating money. It might not be a capital improvement project in that sense, no. So, deferred maintenance can be capital improvement, you know, bond funded projects. Um, So, so we classify projects by the way it's funded or the type of project it is. So, if we have a building and we ended up using cash and there's times where we did supplement cash instead of of the bonds, is that not a CIP project? Yeah, I mean, it could be technically, um, you know, we haven't had cash, um, so Well, again, so is it is it a good policy to to classify a CIP project based on its funding?
So um from that um we started just asking more questions and in asking questions to give you kind of an example. This is a chart. This graphic shows what we were offering from last summer. And so this is a high school example. We offer you inerson credit recovery. We do we were doing online options and we were doing what's called our high schools. And if you take a peek at this chart, you'll see some of the kind of concerns we identified from prior slide. Um there were inconsistent fees ranging from $80 to $225 depending on what platform and where you were taking advantage of our summer programming. Um the even the payment and registration platforms were different by each type of offering. Um some were a little more cumbersome to navigate than others. So we had parents or families that were frustrated with that. Um we believe some of that is what led to low enrollment which meant then we were having to cancel some of our programs or offerings or reduce them.
Um, let's see. Are we seven? Employment. Um, okay. 10.7 discussion, consideration, approval of the 2627 renewal of employment contract list. >> This would be the list of uh administrative employees and support staff that we talked about last month and they're bringing this month. Um, the uh by law the administrators get 30 calendar days before they have to turn it in. So, it would be due uh essentially uh May 9th. Um it's 30 work days for uh we allow 30 work days for um uh uh support staff. Technically, they're not covered under the law, but we give them the same the same benefit as and time as the um as the classified staff or excuse me, as the certified staff. Um so, I would recommend uh approval uh as presented. I would add one thing and and give authority to HR for any minor changes. If if inadvertently we miss somebody, I don't think we have.
Um, maybe I should have asked this from the beginning, but it's it's it still works here. If this just came to came to my mind, can you just walk everyone through what this project is? >> Oh, great. Yeah, absolutely. >> Because I know this goes back to my first term on the board when we initially started talking about >> Sunrise coming out of the ground. >> Yeah. So, Sunrise is kind of in the middle of nowhere. It is right along Murphy Road, which is a paved road. It's in between Murphy and Hartman Road and along Frell. Ferrell is unpaved from Hartman to Murphy. It's a onem stretch and it has a canal, an M msid canal which was uh which is actually a federal Bureau of Reclamation owned uh canal. We have to they call it tiling. It's essentially putting a pipe underground. Then after this project's done, we'll be a'll be a transfer of the property from the feds to the city of Maricopa and then we'll have the next project to actually pave that mile stretch as well.
>> All right, so >> shout out to the uh the football staff Jordan who has has joined the stream. >> Oh, heck yeah. Yeah. So, the the Tiger football staff is throwing their support behind our Cyber Tigers tonight as we look to >> take down two three more >> two uh two >> three more two more >> two more. >> There's no way of knowing. >> Two more with three stocks to go. So, if Jaden plays these perfectly, he only has two more opponents to fight. But if he ends up losing, then someone else will have to step in. All right. So, Jayen losing a stock because, as we know, he lost a stock previously. >> I've learned this >> as we've advanced. >> All right. Good to know. See, that's what I like. You're a really good learner. >> Ah, >> really good learner.
>> Any discussion? We'll start with the vote. John >> I. >> Dustin, >> I will abstain. >> Okay. Yep. Mike >> I. >> Jody. >> I. >> Myself. I'm an I. 26-112. Approval of me memorandum of understanding between MCS and Higgins Performance Consulting. Dr. Brown. I recommend the board approve the memorandum of understanding between MCS and Higgins Performance Consulting. Dr. Lucy Laor Higgins will provide sport and performance psychology consulting services to Madison Consolidated High School student athletes and coaching staff. The MCHS athletic department agrees to compensate Dr. Higgins for up to three hours a week for 36 weeks during the academic year. The fees associated with the consulting services are outlined below in the service agreement and will be paid from the math from Madison Consolidated High School's athletic department who is seeking grants, corporate sponsorships, and her fundraising to cover the outlined fees. Compensation.
One was filled. So that's how this works, right? Does that make sense? How >> you're looking to backfill whatever didn't fill. >> Well, in most cases, >> possibly. So look at grade three. >> We opened 10 seats. We did not have one school choice student in grade three. >> So as we went down, um you'll notice again 30 seats were filled out of the 75 that we approved. So if you go to the next column. >> Yeah. Sorry. Yeah. >> I'm just looking at it and I might want to make sure that So what's in grade two, >> correct? >> Was last year's grade one. >> Correct. >> Right. >> But in the other one, it's not. >> Say that again. >> But it looks So the second column is shifted. You said the fir this third column isn't, but it looks like it is.
See, you're more organized, too. >> Oh, >> you could keep going. >> No, no. >> Um, >> thank you all for having us here, inviting us to share about our schools. Um, my name's Jill Taglia and what's that? >> Am I not talking into it enough? Is that better? Okay. All right. Um, going off Carol's last statement about joy, it's a joy working with you, Carol, and with Kelly, and with with all of you, I'm um yeah, so I'm excited to tell you about AEL. Um, I'd like to tell you a little bit about who we are and then our goals and then um how those goals work into the vision that we have for AEO. Um, we are, um, it's really unique. I've never been in any other district that has a preschool that is a school that is all preschool. So, this affords us a lot of really unique opportunities um, in what we do.
So, this affords us a lot of really unique opportunities um, and what we do. We have um, a capacity right now to have about 105 students. Um usually we hover between 80 and 90 95.
Um so we are investigating the option of uh a wand device to help support expediting that process. Um we do know that some nearby neighboring towns uh do have this. Um Bethel uses them, and Row uses them. Uh Newtown actually has ones that are built in or are building into the building. Um so they're doing more like standing ones. So um the goal always would be to manage a situation uh in an expedient way so that we can focus on teaching and learning, and not have to focus on this as much, right? That's the goal, and we also want to make sure that it's a deterrent. That we we don't want students doing this in school. Um not only is it unhealthy, it's uh unsafe, and and we want uh you to be in school for schooling purposes. And so um so we are looking into that right now.
Um is that the cost for Can you just explain that cost for me? We receive a grant from Teaching Fellows through Chowchilla, and every year that I've been here up until the last couple of years, the grant covered the full cost of the program, but then over the last couple of years they've increased some of the salaries of their staff, so of course, the costs have increased, and the grant only covers about two-thirds. It's around The program's around 90,000, just to give you rough numbers, and the grant covers about 60. So, the remaining amount they are billing us for broken out over each month for our students who attend right here after school after school program, and we're able to use that specific restricted E funding extended learning funding for that cuz we use most of that is for my club, but we also use some for the Eagle Academy, which is great cuz it isn't impacting our unrestricted budget cuz it's specific to anything after school.
Shouldn't it be based on uh the type of project it So, we can we can work on a definition, but our thought there was that when we talk about backlog, you know, what kind of what kind of projects are we talking about? Cuz they are they are like um you could talk about like the deferred maintenance backlog. And and those are just estimates. Um, they're they're not >> improvement project backlog. It's clear in the resolution. And so, those projects could be capital improvement projects, right? But they're not They haven't been um put into the pipeline for projects because they're waiting on the list for funding. So, if we're going to count that as a capital improvement backlog, then that changes how we're looking at the problem. If we're just talking about like the projects on on this list that we shared, which are projects that are actually, you know, turned into projects and they they sort of waiting in different um you know, in design um for or for completion funding, you know, that's kind of a different, um, look at the term backlog.
um some of the scheduling concerns. An example being we we noticed that in um our in-person credit recovery program, if a student had failed, for example, algebra 1, they were taking semester one of algebra 1 in the morning and semester 2 in the afternoon, but they were running concurrently. So, they didn't have prerequisite skills to be successful in the afternoon because they needed the morning instruction. So that was another problem we identified. Um our high schools weren't all unified in what they were doing or how they were offering it. We were trying each counselors were trying to explain to parents, but one counselor would know some options, another would know other options. So it it became evident we need to bring a bunch of people together to start evaluating what we're doing and how can we clarify and improve. This is data from last summer just to give you a little what we did last year.
We've looked it over, but in the case that we inadvertently miss somebody, you would give us permission to go ahead and move forward with that just so we can get the contracts out and not have to come back at another time for that one or two people if we inadvertently miss. >> Okay.
This is in relation to the the agreement that we had with the city and with the developer um back when we built the school. So instead of just building the half streetet improvement that's required by our property, we agreed to do the entire stretch and we'll we'll receive some reimbursements from from the developer once that's completed and we'll no longer have to drive, you know, all the way up up or or down to get to Desert Sunrise. >> I am so looking forward to that moment. >> So is our transportation department. >> Yeah, I agree too. >> But this is the first of three phases. Yeah, I mean this is just putting the canal underground. Then there's the arrangement of the land and then we pave the road, >> but I'm chomping at the bit. >> Get this thing going. >> How long is this part this part of this project?
All right. And once again, Terry doesn't really have any projectiles other than that fire thing on the ground. So, Jaden's jumping and using as many projectiles as he can. And he also caught Terry's projectiles and sends it right to him. Didn't hit him. All right. Using plenty of forward airs. Oh my gosh. >> Seemed like a dangerous gamble right there. >> Mhm. Yep. It was a dangerous gamble because if uh because if Terry um I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure Terry could have broken out of that if he used like a forward air or something. I'm not sure about that actually myself. And Terry's got his go moves. And if you saw this guy last time, he knows how to use his go move. We're going to see if he uses those immediately. He's probably going to get on the ground and use a buster roll for something.
The MCS uh athletic department agrees to compensate the sports psychologist at a rate of $50 per one hour, $40 for 45 minutes, or $30 for 30 minutes for up to three hours per week for 36 weeks during the academic year. The total compensation for these contracted services will not exceed $6,000 per academic year. With prior approval from the athletic director, individual teams and coaches within the athletic department may request additional consultation services beyond the contracted hours. Any such additional services shall be subject to the sports psychologist's availability and shall be paid for from the budget of the requested team. So asking for approval of the agreement. >> Can I get a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve 26112. >> Can I get a second? >> I'll second.
>> It is shifted. >> Okay. It is shifted. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry. It is. It is shifted. Yeah. It's all shifted together. >> Correct. I apologize. >> Yeah. So, it's when you said it was grade one. >> No, no, no. They've all assume it's all shifted, right? >> Um shift happens. >> So, um so, >> so as we look through this, >> it's been a long month. So bad jokes right as we look at this >> you might say how come for instance in grade four which is current grade three there are seven students enrolled in school choice but I'm showing zero out of 10 that's because in the previous three year two years we would have picked up school choice kids right so this is just a cumulative number of school choice students who have been added to the the roster over time. >> So the the second or the zero and 10 number reflects what we opened last year.
