>> Okay. Is there anybody listening? >> Is that a question? Is anyone listening? >> Fair enough, Lori. Yeah, >> well, they're actually they're probably sleeping. >> Are they hearing you? >> Yeah. Are they hearing me, Chris? >> Is there anybody present >> who would either online or in person? Although all I see in person are all the people that have been working on this budget all year, every day, and and you've probably could recite it in your sleep. Thank you all for the work that you've put in. And there you can't see from home. We have select board members in the audience and all of our administrators who have done tremendous work ongoing over and over and over and over. It's been the work of this entire year to the point where, you know, we're talking about other things that uh need some attention when we get done with this.
comment or I guess a statement. >> Sure. >> Um I just want to make a statement that all of our buildings, most of the PTO's or even ghs run their own separate pages. And like member Deneva says, that's where we're finding the people. We're not finding them on the Greenfield Public School Facebook page. they're more in the little niches of the friends of Discovery School or um Federal Street School or the Newton Friends of Newton. And a lot of those groups also support each other. Um and I think I'm wondering when people talk about they follow on social media if that's what they're referring to and maybe not the Greenville Public School page. And I think AEL has an Instagram. They're not on Facebook. Okay. So, it sounds like that is going to be a little bit of homework for the community engagement subcommittee and for them to find out what they actually would want from a district page as opposed to a page that they run themselves.

An occupational therapist can do that. A COTA is not able to do that part of it and has to be overseen by an occupational therapist. So we would recommend investing in these two areas. One is kind of already moving forward. The other we believe we really need to be able to make sure that the current programs that we have in place in the IEPs that we have in place, that we are able to meet the needs of the students that we have today in our schools. Unexpected funds is that we unexpectedly found out that the insurance was reduced, right? We had planned for a specific amount in our insurance line and we got some great news that had been reduced. And the amount that that brings back to us is 306,978. So that's great. We add 200 but 307 comes off there, right? That's awesome.
Um I wanted to thank MOT for having all the chairs set up and um you know, for everybody to be there and then or the families to be there and then I I was thinking about how the teachers had to have everything graded, had to look at all the attendance, had to run their reports, send the list, get the certificate printed. Those need to be printed in a timely manner to get back to the principal to sign and the teacher to sign and there's just so much that goes into an award ceremony and I just I'm sure that I forgot something, but I did want to do my best at recognizing all of the moving parts that go into celebrating our students. Thank you. I'd like to clap on that one. Gosh, it's so hard to follow that. I mean that was amazing. Thank you, Julie, for saying that and thank you to these teachers and staff and um you know, we're supposed to comment on things that we're doing in the district or our for district and I didn't get to go to the last mass days cuz they were canceled, but that was my that I don't I don't need it my time this year to mass and that was very fun.
Hearing none, Chair, your recommendation is adopted. Okay, now. Now, we we journey the joint committee on between education and higher education. Talk to order the joint committee on education and committee on agriculture and the environment. Welcome Senator Gabbard and his committee. We are on our 102 agenda items. One resolution since concurrent resolution 130 and Senate resolution 122 urging Department of Education and Department of Agriculture and biosecurity to jointly develop a farmer to institution coordination plan that is aligned with the Ina kitchen network roll out. Testifying for this measure is DOE. Good afternoon chairs, vice chairs, Jesse Souki, Deputy Superintendent of Operations of the Department of Education. We provide testimony with comments and stand on our testimony, but in a short just a summary of what we've had say in there. We believe that we are meeting a lot of the reporting requirements in here. One is that we are entering into into an MOA with several agencies to address some of the issues that you know, DOE alone cannot address.
on the Rigsfield. student government has been working hard to put together uh food trucks and just a fun time for seniors to be together one last time before we leave our high school journey. And then we also have our teacher appreciation week where we'll be able to honor all of our staff at Basha High School and show them that we appreciate them. So as as we come to an end, um I just want to thank all of you for this opportunity to serve at Basha High School and to be the student body president. Um, in my future, I'm going to be attending ASU and I will be going to the nursing program, hoping to attend um to become a PA, a physician's assistant. So, thank you all so much for this opportunity and it will it will be with me forever. So, thank you and have a wonderful EVENING as well.
>> And you will also note which ones um there are selected books that it would be near impossible for a student that was going into AP classes to properly prepare and read the entire list of books that are recommended for AP level. So if you can also provide for us the entire list so that we can make sure that that's something that we are able to approve to give them that advantage and that opportunity to have those available for >> the case with any of these lists. Um I always I refer to it as being like a menu like I use the Cheesecake Factory as an example and we go to the Cheesecake Factory. Yeah, that menu is insane. So like >> in in all of these instances there's no way the teachers are reading every one of these novels over the course of the year.
But in any event, um is there anybody online that would like to um participate in the hearing and add some comments about our budget? going once. Okay, I don't see anybody. So, I will >> I make a motion to close the public hearing portion for the budget hearing. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. >> And I will ask any of you. And again, we've talked about uh the way that we got here was um by having multiple budget meetings and discussions again with everybody in this room over and over again. And you've had your chance to ask your questions, but um here's here's another chance to either ask for clarity or make some comments or make a suggestion before there's a vote.
Um, how would they like that interaction to be structured, if at all? uh and you know learning a little bit more about what types of content they're looking for, what needs to what's like a social media worthy versus what is a robocall worthy like getting getting into some nitty-gritty, but I will leave it to you all to figure that out if this motion passes. Um okay, any other comments, questions, concerns that you would like to raise before we vote? Seeing none, please call the vote. >> Secretary Webb, I'm a yes. Vice Chair Childs, >> yes. >> Member Deniv, >> yes. >> Member Dyman, >> yes. >> Member Goodwin, >> yes. >> Chair Ston, >> yes. All right. Thank you. And committee engagement, please go forth. Um, policy and program. >> All right. Uh we met on March 30th for our first subcommittee meeting of the year and we have agreed to meet every fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m.

One thing we didn't expect, a new unexpected, was that our VoAg student acceptance rate was increased by eight. It was increased by eight specifically at the eighth grade going to high school level. We generally always have had four students accepted at that level. 12 were. So that's an increase that we had there. And so we didn't you know, when you all planned the budget, that wasn't accounted for. So that's a new a new factor that we have to add in. We need to we need to pay for that. So that's where we are here.
Um and I am going to attend tomorrow. There's a Central Valley Education Coalition Legislative Luncheon that I'm going to go to tomorrow and hopefully learn something that I can bring back. I don't know. Um but I am going to be there tomorrow in Madera. So that's all I have to share today. Uh I had the pleasure of being invited into Miss Noble's and uh Miss Valdene's uh classrooms to read on author's day and they their theme was star books, which is really cute. So they had all these little cups that are aprons and fun things for for [clears throat] that day and so I appreciated the invitation to come and read and I read um All the places Wait. All the place All the places you'll go. Um to both classes and I had uh really good attention and really good response. So thank you for the invitation.
We prepare the menus. We order the food, but CTAHR is helping out with where the produce can be grown. the Department of Agriculture is part of that MOA and several other agencies. And then we have a larger working group that we work with including the Hawaii Farm Bureau and the private sector to figure out how we and farmers to figure out how we get food from the farm to the school and on that menu. So, uh regarding the audit, um I see my time's up, but if I We'll call you back for questions. >> Okay, thank you. Can you just get through this? It's really quick. Uh Laura Zerbo on Zoom in support? Not present, Chair. >> Okay. Uh Daniela Spoto from AppleSeed in support and Christine Andrews in support, not here. Anyone else wishing to testify on this measure? Okay, Jesse, you can come back and finish up what you wanted to say.
Please uh support this if you guys will. Well, you'll be at honors probably at the dorms. Are you going to be at the dorms as well? All righty. So, we will continue on with our agenda for this evening. Moving over to item 4.02 and that is checking in with our superintendent to see if we have any correspondence. >> Thank you. Great job, students. It's been great working with you. >> Good luck. >> Thank you so much, >> Madam President. support. There's no correspondence at this time. >> All right. And that moves us to 4.03 Superintendent Current Events. >> Madam President, members of the board, um we're launching a safety and security advisory committee to evaluate the current landscape of the Cher High School campus and explore feasible modifications to the school's daily operation. CHS students currently have the option to leave campus during this uh during their lunch periods.
It's not happening. It's just the menu that's available to them to supplement and support what they're doing. And so what we're going to try to work with you on is making sure we're clear on what's what you're you're good with being on the menu so that we can give that to our teachers and say anything you want to order off this list, go for it. It's good. Doc, >> Dr. F, thank you very much and your team. You guys work really hard and we appreciate you. Thanks. Thank you. >> Okay. 11.2 discussion information on 2526 district student enrollment number. >> You got that uh report whatever it was a couple weeks ago. So, if there's any particular questions that you have, uh, we're following the same trend we've followed all year long. I don't think there's anything different.
I >> I don't have any questions. I think we've had the opportunity to to hear about those quite a bit. I just want to thank you for the all the thought and time and effort that's gone into this. Um you and Mike, but all of our administrators. I know it's been a um a lot of a lot of time, a lot of effort, and you've been very thoughtful in how you've approached it. So, thank you. >> I'll um just a couple comments, I guess. Um you know, we've talked at length about the the dangers of reliance on one-time funds. Um I hope people can appreciate um where we are in that and that the idea of you know sort of just keeping doing that it's just not going to work. Um I I want to emphasize and you spoke to this Jim about the fiscal cliff and the funding.
remote only. We set several goals, some of which are lofty. Um one of our goals is to search through our policies and compare and contrast them to other districts using the MASC hosting portal. and we will figure out a way to make this a digestible process and clean up any typos and grammatical errors as we go. Goal two is to add legal opinions we receive to the materials when they are not of a confidential nature. Goal three is to create a style procedure for attorney communication, which was a hurdle that I unexpectedly ran into. So that's something that will end up in the handbook so that future committee members who have to interact with council will know the best course of action to do that and how to format communication. Goal four is to add duties of the chair and vice chair to the handbook which is something that we discussed at our last policy meeting in 2024 and I had it on my circle back to do and then never did it.

I'll pause there for a minute and see if there are any questions on this before I keep going. So when I get into the next part which will be the things that we need to think about Oh, I'm sorry. I did not see that. I I paused for a while, too. I thought that was great wait time, you know? Sorry, Caroline. Yes. So I'm I'm just trying to do the math to get to the Is it 497 to get to the 422? So you add in the 233,000. Oh, and then take out the 307. Okay. Got it. I passed it by my calculator to my [laughter] to my left before I came to the meeting. It's dead. Yeah. So Oh, thank you. No, great question. Absolutely. Great questions. Anything else? So I do want to just [snorts] share a couple of things before I go into our recommendations.
