Um and certainly for folks at home um there's this has been best I can tell more than a full-time job itself never mind all the other responsibilities part of your job. Um I want to thank all of you who are involved for the efforts to put forward what is you know I think the the best alternative that we can come up with under very difficult circumstances. Yeah, and I won't I won't uh you know just rehash the same things, but I also want to acknowledge and appreciate the stress involved in this during this process. You were asked to do level funded. You were asked to have tough conversations with all of our staff and professionalism that you showed that they continue to show when we're talking about cuts and these things that are very very stressful. So, uh, just really really appreciate the professionalism all around on that.
And he would like us to keep them in groups of no more than five at a time. Uh, so that's another thing to add to the handbook. Um, I will send those to him shortly and he will digest those and spit them back to us and then we will continue this wheel so that we get all of the uh things updated that we need to get updated. Uh, so the next step for the JIB student policy, very exciting. I hope you're all excited about a non- voting student member sitting on the uh, committee. Uh, member Dykeman is going to reach out to Angela Mass to coordinate with the student council and get their thoughts and find out where they are in the council process. We don't actually know if they've done any votes or met as a group yet. And I have a feeling that I'll hear more about this at the Yellow Conference on the 17th.
All of the things that you've brought up to send to policy, there's like five or six of them at this point. And he would like us to keep them in groups of no more than five at a time. Uh so that's another thing to add to the handbook. Um I will send those to him shortly and he will digest those and spit them back to us and then we will continue this wheel so that we get all of the uh things updated that we need to get updated. Uh so the next step for the JIB student policy very exciting. I hope you're all excited about a non- voting student member sitting on the uh committee. Uh, member Dykeman is going to reach out to Angela Mass to coordinate with the student council and get their thoughts and find out where they are in the council process.
So with all that said I do want to share some some ideas that we've come up with that we believe we still need to refine and work out, but areas where we would go to get to the point that we need to get to to kind of get a net balance of zero. And that would be after a careful review a careful review of enrollment at CLES, we believe we can reduce two sections from the K to five K to five, right? K to 5 program and reduce two sections there. Now one of them will assume that you know pre-K full day that we put in and another would be reduced as well. That would allow us the money that we would need to get $150,000 to be able to take out from there. We do believe that we would have to reduce a teacher at BHS and that would give us $100,000.
So we're really hopeful that in May that happens. I know there's districts down in Southern California that have never gotten together before like LA, the charter county and they wrote a letter very strongly worded letter to the governor. So there's just a lot of opposition to this and I'm hoping that that through all these efforts that the governor will will change his mind and give us the money. And uh finally, I wanted to say I'll be attending the OES open house tomorrow. So I'm really excited to get to see the classrooms and all the work. It's always a fun evening to attend and um I wanted to say good luck to all the track meet participants on Friday cuz that is like so stressful. I remember the time Tomorrow. Oh, it's tomorrow? My gosh. I'm so off. Um but anyway, I hope you guys all have a great time um and I hope the kids all do well cuz that's a really fun event to attend.
Mhm. And if they have an idea, and it's basically forward contracting, which is very common in agriculture. But without that, they don't know what the need is going to be. And so we get into this cycle. And uh having that schedule, is anybody talking to the farmers? Yes, sir. I We are working very closely with the Department of Agriculture, the ADC, and the Farm Bureau on and and see to our providing the our menus for next year and for the regional kitchen launch and the volumes of every product that we need for the menu for both for both of those years. Um and then we're actually having an event on May 14th at the Wahiawa Value-Added Center with over 80 farmers and distributors so that we can help connect farmers with distribu- with distribution if they need it. And we're going over what those menus what our menus are and the volumes that we need.
During a recent meeting, the Chandler City Council celebrated schools for their creativity, their passion, and innovation during February's Chandler Innovation Fair. We also want to recognize the winner of the Arizona the winners of the Arizona Science and Engine Engineering Fair. Um, our kids just did amazing in the senior division. This year, we had nine student projects qualify for the International Science and Engineering Fair. This represents 60% of the international fair nominees for Arizona. CUSD students are pretty smart and they show what they do best. And so that's 60% of every one representing Arizona will come from Chander Unified High Schools.
Now, don't get me wrong, they may not want that choice and therefore they may leave afterwards, but they will have an opportunity to to work with us um or to work in our in our district. Um, we are having a conversation and I think some people will question, my god, this is taking forever. When are you going to get the budget done? Could just give me the flipping budget. Um, what I can tell you is if we' done the budget in January, there would have been rifts because what happened in January and what we knew as the as to be the truth in January is not the truth as we know it today. And so the two things in particular that have swung this budget in a different direction, we're still a shortfall, but it's a different shortfall is when the uh uh health insurance came in and a swing of a half a million dollars and then Dr.
>> I think that recognize recognize this the stress it puts on the staff who are watching what may be happening to their their buildings and their district as well. And that's that's everybody. >> So, you're looking for the motion? >> You want me to make the motion? No, I was looking I don't know if you had anything to say. That's all I >> I mean I I think I've weighed in and I agree with everything that's been said. >> I will take a motion if nobody else has any comments. Well, we can do two different motions. >> I I don't have the draft motion in front of me. This one's important to get right. So, if somebody has a draft motion >> Oh, did we have one? I think there I don't think there is one. So, uh, I would make a motion to approve, uh, the option one and option two budgets as presented.
So, we'll keep you apprised as to what their situation is and then hopefully we can figure out how to meet and enact this policy. That's it. If anybody has any questions, >> just an update, I did write that email. So, um I hope to hear back from Ms. Mass soon. Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Excellent. Um great. And uh at this time, I don't believe that the community engagement subcommittee has a report. Uh there was a minor technical difficulty which is being resolved. Um okay moving on to new business. Member Deniv. >> Yes. So um item a motion from member Den to have the school committee develop a procedure for drafting acting upon and archiving resolutions. And when you say school committee are you meaning policy program and handbook subcommittee? Well, it's funny you should say that because I'm not really sure, but probably yes.
We don't actually know if they've done any votes or met as a group yet. And I have a feeling that I'll hear more about this at the Yellow Conference on the 17th. So, we'll keep you apprised as to what their situation is and then hopefully we can figure out how to meet and enact this policy. And that's it.
We also are kind of flirting with a couple of different options for the other $125,000. That is a possibility of a reorganization for the K to 12 curriculum program and really re-looking at the organizational structure there cuz there might be an opportunity there. We haven't flushed that out fully yet but there might be right there. And if that didn't work it it would be a potential staff member somewhere else. We're looking potentially right now that could be at BHS but we are still deliberating on that and really analyzing where that might best come from. The other things we feel like aren't as impactful. Obviously the next one we do believe we'll get a solar reduction of $30,000 for next school year so that can come right off the top which is a wonderful thing and doesn't impact really anything. It's a positive for everyone actually.
Um and then I hope you enjoy your spring break. Thank you. Enjoy your time off. You definitely earned it. And that is all I got to say to you guys. Yep. Legislative talk. Yes. Um so everybody knows, the superintendents also get together and talk with these legislators and we also were talking to them recently about the 60-day substitute and then two other things that we've put on their um radar above is the public records request. Like something needs to be done about that because it's so time-consuming on staff to respond to those. So um there needs to be some sort of law looked at and considered or rules and regula- regulations on that. And then we've also um been talking a lot about the swatting, which is the fake active threat calls that unfortunately our district was a part of last year where somebody calls from like another state and makes a very serious threat that um causes schools to have to go on lockdown.
So that is absolutely taking place. Okay, and we will get a report on that, Senator Gabbard. We will see that um very shortly. I know you said you've had one report. We'd like to see another one with performance. And I The reason I I'm pushing this a little hard is because we all talk about it. You serve 100,000 meals a day, which is a great way forward for agriculture in this state. But there's going to be stutter steps if we don't coordinate. And you talked about Department of Agriculture government. You talked about ADC government. You talked Farm Bureau. Now you're talking to the farmers. And so that's where I'm pushing. >> And I've been speaking with our beef producers on multiple islands in this last week. We've been talking directly with citrus producers and lettuce producers. We've been targeting the farmers who produce and the producers who are growing and producing the items that we buy the most of so that we're making the biggest impact as we shift.
Thank you board members for attending the Anderson Elementary A+ School of Excellence ceremony. Uh the good news is you have four more to go to and they're coming up. Uh board, we hope you can attend those as well. We know you're invited to a lot of things and very busy, but I it seems like the whole audience cheers up when they see your support there. Again, six CUSD schools earned this prestigious honor simultaneously, which is an incredible accomplishment and I believe most of that in one school year. We would also like to take a moment to recognize and get by two COD bus drivers and a COSD Tarwater parent showing our students an example of collaboration, compassion, and making a difference. Jade Cunningham explains how some valley second graders received an unexpected lesson on teamwork. March 25th was a big day for second graders at Chandler Unified School District.
Fountain worked with the ELA and the cost of the ELA was uh curriculum for K6 or K5, excuse me, was spread out a little bit differently than we have in the past. That swing has put us in a situation where again we still have to make uh uh some cuts. Um, but we now are having a conversation as an example of do we freeze on a uh increase or do we go 1%. Don't know what the final recommendation is going to be, but we're in a much healthier position. I will tell you there is some right sizing that still needs to take place in this district. We're sitting on a district that's about 36 3500 kids. Um, and that looks different than a district that's 4,500 kids or 5,000. And so we also have to take a look at um what do people want? And so you will probably see some recommendations coming out of the high school for the reduction in some of the sports and activities that we pres that we provide.
>> I think we should state the actual numbers. >> Okay. >> Uh, so the option one, uh, includes an operational override and it is 47,236,865. And the option two, if the override fails is uh 45,931,7 second. >> All in favor? >> I thank you and thank you all. >> Members to Michael >> for his next meeting. >> Thank you everyone. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Thank you for coming. >> Thank you. >> Have a good night. >> Okay. Next up is the WACA board member proposal. Do we have anyone on for that? >> We do. Uh so, uh WACA, as you know, we approved um I'm going to pull this up because actually I do think we have a motion in here. Um where am I? Give me a second. I got appointment. So, share. Boom. Boom. Okay. So we have um WACA we appoint two members to the board.
I think I think that that's where it's going to have to go. >> But I think that the full committee is going to have to give us that charge if they so choose. So I bring the motion before everybody, but um Okay. So I'll bring that motion and then I'll I'll Would you like me to rationale upon discussion or rationale now? Uh, I would like you to motivate the motion and then we can see if that gets a second. >> Okay. I move that the Greenfield School Committee develop a procedure for drafting, acting upon, and archiving resolutions because we are a legislative body and one of our tasks is to use our position as the county seat to elaborate upon what we believe to be important in our school culture, the movements we want to see in our municipality, and the things that we want to support.
If anybody has any questions, >> just an update, I did write that email. So, um I hope to hear back from uh Ms. Mass soon. Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Excellent. Um great. And uh at this time, I don't believe that the community engagement subcommittee has a report. Uh there was a minor technical difficulty which is being resolved. Um okay, moving on to new business. Member Deniv. >> Yes. So um item a motion from member Den to have the school committee develop a procedure for drafting, acting upon and archiving resolutions. And when you say school committee, are you meaning policy program and handbook subcommittee? Well, it's funny you should say that because I'm not really sure, but probably yes. I think I think that that's where it's going to have to go. >> But I think that the full committee is going to have to give us that charge if they so choose.
We are very low already in supplies and we've already reduced significantly but through some careful looking you know we we can try to manage without again some certain things and so we can pull 13597 out of there. And then there are a few stipend positions that we think we could manage without having two people doing them and that's what this represents. And so we would try to see the impact of that and and try to manage that for next year at a rate of $5,509 reduction. So from these reductions we believe we can get to the percentage that's been afforded to us. Um And again some of the specifics around these are not are not fully flushed out just yet but administration myself and and TSO will continue to work on that and and we should have that done you know within the next few weeks.
