We had some really good growth in some areas or some I mean, not where we wanted, but we saw some and there other places not. But um so just a reminder, these are ELA goals that are on our um district integrated action plan.

I want to welcome everyone to the school board meeting this evening. We've got a full house and that's super exciting. Um I want to remind everyone we are live streaming this meeting, so the green light is on. So, we'll also welcome those who are joining joining us via the worldwide web. Um we'll start with a motion to accept consent agenda items. >> So moved. Motion by Pat. Do I have a second? >> Second. Second by Travis.
Welcome to the Ashland Community Theater's production of the ACT Caterpillar Story Hour hosted by Jim Parr. Jim, come on up here for a second. Tell me Well, first First of all, thank you so much for doing all you've done to get this show up and going. Well, and Julie Murphy, great partner. I'll talk to her when I Okay. Just Just, you know, I don't want to get all the credit. Oh, no, you're not getting any credit. You're not getting any Well, it depends on how well it goes. To See how it goes tonight and then you'll you'll take you'll take your percentage. So, tell me about it. What is this theme about? Well, it's about relationships, the good, the bad, the ugly, but mostly the ugly. And then there are performers tonight doing what? What are they doing? Well, some of them are telling real stories that they have actually lived of dating catastrophes and relationship snafus, and some people are portraying characters that, you know, even though they're fictional, they sort of represent maybe some of the things that we've gone through in our dating lives and, you know, relationship experiences.
All right. Good evening everyone and welcome to the Ashlin Planning Board meeting of Thursday, April 9th. I'd like to remind everyone that the meeting is being broadcast and recorded. Um, I will call the meeting to order at 7:16 and going to the next thing on our agenda is the chair clerk's report, but I do not have one this evening. And then we have public comment. And I imagine given a glance at who's in the room and who's on the screen that all comments are related to projects. But I will open it up to public comment if there is anyone out there. Are you still letting people in? >> Nobody's in. >> Okay. >> All right. Then seeing none, we are being very efficient and are already at item four. Woohoo. So, um, uh, item four, public meetings. So, first on our agenda are, um, two ANRs.
United States of America. Welcome, welcome everyone this evening. Um, we'll start with comments from the audience. Is there anyone who has a public comment to make this evening? Looks like we're all here to celebrate excellence. So, I'll now turn things over to superintendent to >> Thank you very much. Good evening everybody. I'd like to invite Mr. GR up to the podium to introduce a robotics team who uh in a short while will be going to compete and represent Bolton public schools in the world competition. >> So we're going to have them come up front center right now. Good evening everyone. Good evening. We're going to get started uh with a very special performance. Um our chamber singers of Anaheim High School is the top edition group at Anaheim. This year, the choir earned a superior class one rating at the Southern California Vocal Association Festival, which is the highest distinction awarded. Three choir students were also selected for the Southern California Vocal Association Honor Choir, a highly competitive ensemble chosen from thousands of students across Southern California. The chamber singers have been honored with several prestigious invitations, including performances for the Anaheim City Council, the opening ceremony of the Anaheim Police Off, Anaheim Post Office, and at John Wayne Airport during the holiday season. In April of last year, the choir received a gold rating at a festival in San Diego, earning an invitation to perform at the Festival Gold Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
I'm not going to read them to you, but they're what we're looking at and we'll revisit because I have them later when we have our at the end of each section. So for benchmark three, these are the results for second grade reading. And then if we go to the growth, so A is the first quarter, B is the second quarter, C is the third quarter. You can see second grade did some pretty nice growth from the first quarter to the third quarter, especially kind of maintained from second to third. And the red is indeed good to see that go down. I was going to say she wants to see the red go down. Yeah, that's definitely showing some progress. Some minimal progress, but it is progress. Almost 20% there drop. So that's good. Third grade ELA. third grade. Yeah, that's Jen. Would you go back one slide, please?
Pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, that's one of the best pledges we've had because of all of you here. So, thank you. Uh, first item on the agenda is the building principal report. Mrs. for the middle school. >> Well, we are very excited to introduce our student leadership team. All of our student leaders are here tonight. They didn't have some of them do have athletics, but they may decide tonight to share the exciting things that are happening at CMS. This year we've really been working on student voice and making sure that students have a say in the way things happen at CMS as part of our HRS level one. And I am so so excited for them to share from their perspective the amazing things that are happening at CMS.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we'll move down to community non-agenda items. Um we have the JCHS The Kind Company. Yes, so the high school um is our showcase tonight and they have three different recognitions. We're going to start with The Kind Company. Hold on. Seth, you get to see him twice tonight because he's so important. So >> [laughter] >> Seth is one of our student leaders in The Kind Company. Um so, I'm just going to introduce us real quick. Um I'm Eanie. Miss Patella. Tracy Martin. Toby Gay. And who are you? Um yeah. This is Seth. So, we are here tonight just to kind of tell you about what we've been doing in our program and um Tracy's going to start us off real fast. Okay. Well, The Kind Company is a collaborative effort between teachers, paraprofessionals, and students and the goal is to create a community uh centered on kindness, inclusivity, and purpose.
And And how do people get tickets to this thing? They go to the what website? >> go on the Ashland Community Theater Act website and they get their tickets and they come on down and they they have a laugh and a half cuz it's going to be fun. It'll be amazing. Amazing. Can I bring up Julie Murphy over here, your your partner in crime for here? Want to thank both of you. Give her a round of applause here.
I believe they are the same applicant, right? Um, one is for 37 James Road, one is for 137 Pond Street. Um, Jasmine, do you have any introduction to these or do you want to let Mr. Connors just um introduce the project? >> I think >> Okay. >> I will absolutely. Which one would you like to start with? >> And these are the >> Which one would you like me to share first on which plan would you like? >> Well, we do 137 since that's the first on the list here. Oh, were these the these were just the Sorry, these were the signature copies. I assume it'll be easier to look at paper copies than these. You're you're actually gonna I was going to say we need >> Are you going to talk from there? >> Wherever you want. I can go back. >> Yeah, I think so.
>> Tremendous accomplishments. So the 2025 2026 VEX IQ Robotics season was filled with teamwork, creativity, and remarkable achievements from all of our Bolton Bulldog teams. Our standout performers this year were our sixth grade teams competing in the elementary division. All three of our elementary teams qualified for the Connecticut State Championship held in February, which is an impressive accomplishment. Each Bolton Bulldogs team had something to celebrate this season. Team 1227K earned the Innovate Award at an earlier tournament. Team 1227A was the only team to score over 100 points in a match at the state championship while also tying for second place in teamwork champions. There's no way I was going to remember all of this, so I'm reading it. Tonight, we are excited to recognize team 1227D, which was made of Charlie, Tanner, and Oliver. Earlier in the season at the AOH tournament, this team won a design award, which recognizes excellence in engineering design process team interview, game strategy, and robot development.
Um, and they have just returned from their performance. There they collaborated with choirs from across the nation and worked under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Ames of the University of Tennessee Knoxville. The board is proud to welcome the chamber singers of Anaheim High School as they share the music with us today. So, please welcome Anaheim High School Quad. Come lift your voice and rejoice. Come and hallelujah. Lifting your voice to the sky. Come and rejallel. Singing your praises on high. Let all the earth sing a song of exult. Let all creation shout with humjad hallelujah. Lifting your voice to the sky. Come andjad hallelujah. Singing your praises on high. Come lift your voice and rejoice. Moose God, holy, come and rejoice with a glad hallelujah. Lifting your voice to the sky. Come and rejad hallelujah. Singing your praises on high. Let all the earth sing a song of exultation.
Um, uh, you might want to look at Desert Valley. There's a little bit of a celebration there. Yes, absolutely. Good. Okay. Okay. Okay. And then we go to fourth grade ELA. Fourth grade also struggled. Fourth grade. Yeah. Schools. Oh, the schools. So, did the did the kids coming into fourth grade this year, were they lacking the skills that would get them to this point to get We had quite a few last year. Well, that would that were well, that would still be third grade. We had quite a few in third grade that were retained or were up for retention. So, some of them we didn't retain because on the third grade ELA state assessment, if they don't pass the move on red reading piece of the assessment, they we have to retain them unless they're they have an IEP, have uh an are an EL student or have already been retained.
So I'm going to let them do our building report. So if you are in charge of the building report, come on up. Um, hello. I'm Anna Lindsay. I'm Ella Seward. >> I'm Zach Eats. >> I'm ready cord. >> I'm Zeke Plunkett. >> And I'm Naomi Surmer. And this is the CMS schoolboard presentation. We have been tasked with informing you about current rates of discipline attendance and the impact of positive behavior interventions system at CMS. What is discipline? Discipline is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior with punishment or other undesired consequences for those failing to comply. How does discipline affect our school? Without proper discipline, the safe learning environment that faculty strive to build es along with any importance of grades. If students are not disciplined correctly, they may repeat these offenses. Student view. We have interviewed an accelerated seventh grade boy, a general education eighth grade girl, an A&E sixth grade girl to get their opinions on discipline.
Uh through hands-on projects, peer partnerships uh students work side by side to support one another, celebrate their differences, and build meaningful connections. Uh students work alongside each other as they have staffed and maintained The Kindness Closet, the um William Harmon pop-up shop, and we also did the St. Mary's November 8th uh Christmas Bazaar. So, our theme is going right along with our um school theme, which is built different. We are expected and challenged to raise the bar in every area of our school. Uh also, our district mission it supports our our district mission to inspire and empower our students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners. Uh simply put, we are JC. With this collaboration, students are building on the following: uh collaborative teamwork, problem solving, creativity, responsibility, and cross-cultural teamwork. So, um obviously we couldn't do any of this with without funding. Um and you know, as much as we we've done our crafts and we've sold to raise our money, we actually this last year as well applied for the uh WHAS Crusade for Children Grant.
Both of you, thank you both for doing Yeah, thank thank you both for coming in and stepping in and taking on this show while I did my travels around wherever I was going. How did it feel working with these wonderful people and and putting on this show? Oh my god, it was amazing. So, I we got to one, listen to people's personal stories, bad dates, good dates, marriage proposals, all of it. And then we got to help them put it into a monologue that can be done on the stage, and I got to meet new people and work with some of my favorite not old people. Older people. And of course Jim here was unbelievably amazing. Well, I'm looking forward to tonight. I've seen this a couple of times and I'm telling you right now, if you don't come out tomorrow night, Friday night, and Saturday night, please, you're going to miss it.
