And it's amazing to me that I've known you've been on the school board for a million years and I haven't come down here and done this. And Fred and me are brand new friends for a couple of months now. And I got to meet you the other day which was awesome. And I'm I'm here to help. When any you think of something, you got a question, ask me. I also could be a good liaison. If people know me, I get things done. When I tell you I'm going to do something, I'll do it. So, I'm just thankful that you let me come up here and talk and introduce me. And please, if you want to get a hold of me, I'm easy to get a hold of. Literally, you could call me and I can walk over. So, I I got a question. Since we live live in the same neighborhood, I kind of live down here, too.
they were actually going through a chemistry exam, a biology exam. And I will say I shivered a little bit when I walked by the chemistry exam and saw the the chemical equations on the paper. So uh and last one there, just congratulations to uh Mr. Welchure. Uh he had his IPLI graduation uh this week and uh also he had Ashley Burns and Josie Aguular as teacher leaders with him. um and they presented their project that they completed for hose and um on behavior matrices and um that is something that is implemented in their building and so they presented that and did a great job and so that is an exciting finish for him and his team and that is your assistant superintendent report. >> Thank you Dr. Bokart. Superintendent report Dr. Reker. >> All right, thank you. First I just kind of want to highlight I mean really Dr.
>> [laughter] >> I have my oldest son, Jonah, um my third oldest, Simon, and then everybody else is at golf. So, we are we're split three ways. I'm flying solo tonight. Uh our family farms and it was goat time. >> [laughter] >> That's understandable. If you want to start over here with Todd, we'd love to be able to congratulate you all. So, thankful to have you here. Congratulations, Todd. >> Okay. Now we'll move down under support staff. Um again, um we have permission to post. Yes, please. Asking for approval for permission to post one kitchen manager position for the summer food program. That program was approved at the March 12th meeting and it was a grant-funded program, but we do need to start hiring the staff now. I'll entertain a motion to approve that posting. Motion by Pat, do I have a second? Second.
Um and we'll no longer uh be no longer have a conflict of interest, but I haven't seen any of the stuff. So, it'll still be it'll still be all you guys. But that said, I can still continue it. I just won't vote. Okay. Um, and that is just continuing because >> we're just waiting for their peer review to come back. So, the peer review and their engineers have just been working to get some details straightened out until she hasn't completed her review yet. >> Okay. All right. So, um, I will move to continue 26. No, that's the wrong one. I will move to continue 55 Tilton Avenue, special permit and site plan review to the 30th. >> Yes, please. >> To April 30th. Is there a second? Oh, no. Can I Can I make that motion? >> You can make the motion. >> All right.
>> Sorry. Do we have an expected life expectancy of these devices such as the >> 16 years old originally built? >> Is that good or bad? I know on the HVAC ones it was kind of with the expectancy because they run not 247 but you know 12 15 hours a day. So for the every drop of water that come through is pushed by those booster pumps. So I I'm actually not surprised. We actually had a failure for parts. This is what the superintendent was referring to uh back in 2018 and at that point we could repair replace just some components and that we can't do this time because it's end. >> All right, any other questions? All right, on to unfinished business. And we have one thing which is the second read of our economic textbook. And we are looking for a motion, please, to approve the purchase of the economics principles and action book published by Sabis.
So, thank you for being here. >> I I just also wanted to add that um I know it's really daunting to come up here and speak uh to us, but we really appreciate you coming up there and uh speaking your mind and uh like she said, the best dressed students that came up there. It was uh wonderful to hear all the uh joy that you've experienced, all the leadership opportunities and the um what you gained out of the program and we can't speak to you about uh what you came up here to talk about, but I just want you to know that we do hear you. Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. We will now hear from our reports of association. going to call up uh ASAP president uh Jeff Morgan Stern to go first, please. All right.
Um, and you do all these things. Do you cook? Do you clean house? I have a wonderful wife that if I picked up a vacuum, she yells at me to put it down or if I try to she need it. I am I am a first sergeant in real life, but that at her she's a general. I have a sign in my house that say she's the commander-in-chief. I I I'm glad that there's a that you don't excel at everything. I I do a lot of things for the community, so I'm trying to get more involved. I've been involved with the churches. I I helped run the men's home down the street at the end of the road by praise chapel. I work at the food bank. There's a lot of things I got involved in and this has all happened over the last couple of years by the grace of God that I'm standing up here and doing these things.
Bokart and the teacher evaluation committee. I mean really you had administrators and teachers working together changed to a different rubric, a different model. I mean and it was teachers who had gone to um the Marzano system to the events that really wanted to change it. So just I I go back to when we had to adopt the RISE rubric by the state and go through that to now to a point where administrators and teachers are working together on a rubric and an agreement. It's just an outstanding thing. Um he mentioned the AP training. Another great moment of my best leadership is just when I get out of the way, I let Emily race kind of just take over um for the AP training. So just connected her with W Bash Valley, connected her to Andrew to take care of pay for things. She worked with Stephanie on setting everything up.
Second by Kurt, any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um and then some additional posts. Yes, also asking for additional permission to post um staffing for that program and that would be for four cook positions and that would be for the summer food program, please. I'll entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion by Cheryl. Second.
I'll make the motion. Is there a second? >> Second, though. >> Okay. >> I just won't vote. >> Keep your eye on the eye. >> Angel cazad and I. >> Okay, there we go. So, that is continued. We still have six minutes. Is there any other announcements anyone wants to make? Any updates on meetings and I'll have to listen to that part of the meeting. Anyway, >> we um CPC met last week. Nothing new came forward. Um >> no new projects. >> Yeah, no new projects or anything. Um we'll still be putting one well in theory one could should be coming up for um a town meeting. It's about possible purchase of a piece of land for the town for >> Okay, great. Deepa, anything on your committee? >> Um, Metro West, it was a for um participating in a historic preservation training program and just passed on the message.
>> So moved. >> Second. >> Does anyone have any questions or comments? all been down to bruise it in the last month. I'm sure all those in favor of the motion, please say I. >> I oppose abstaining and on to our new business and food service presentation. >> Yes, I'd like to invite Christine up. Um, as you know, we're working with Witson's this year for our food service and we would just want to provide the board with an update of how that's going, some of the major things that uh they're working on. We have some data to share and uh just give you an update on how things are going with their food service. >> Get this up and running. Good evening, Nessa. My name is Christine Wallace. I'm a a food service consultant and the food service director for Bolton Public Schools. I'm the liaison between the district itself and the food service management company that oversees and has the day-to-day responsibilities for um the the ongoing operation of feeding our kids every day.
Well, good evening everyone. Good evening, Board President Guerrero, uh, cabinet, uh, board of trustees, superintendent, uh, Freed, uh, colleagues and community tonight. Um, I first want to start off by just acknowledging those, uh, three county teachers of the year that were honored tonight. They're amazing teachers and all of the 21 22 teachers of the year from all of our schools. I sit on that selection committee and I can tell you it is not easy to pick those three because we have so many many teachers amazing teachers represented all throughout the district especially in that group as well. And on behalf of Asta, um their all the teachers of the year throughout all our sites will be receiving a visit from their ASA site rep this week be given a certificate on behalf of ASA and a gift card so they can take a loved one or a family member out to dinner on as appreciation from the membership of ATA for all their hard work and the example that they set throughout the year.
Uh but if you ask me, I will come. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks, Jean. I thought maybe I had my problem solved, but I guess I don't. 2.6 donations. Uh, Girl Scout. Oh, why wasn't Oh, for teacher appreciation. I will be there early. I like Savannah are my favorite. That's nice. Toad to replace. Look at the toad. That's a lot of donations. That's a lot of cookies. Thank you. Thank you. That's great. Holy cow. 11 cases. Did they She gets three u get three three letters though, right? Yeah. It was a total of 30 30 cases. Thank you very much. And and uh a few here for the district office. Oh, then a few boxes. Oh, they're all gone. Oh, well, last I looked there I think there were a few cookies left in like three boxes and I think we started out with a dozen boxes.
So yeah, the phenomenal AP training that I put on by just letting Emily do all the work. So no, it was great. So I'm grateful for the teams that we have here. Uh speaking of teams, uh working with Boys and Girls Club, we've kind of partnered with them on two grant applications. um trying to find a way to you know we are making that adjustment away from the 21st century grant into a new way of doing elementary after school. It will really continue our discovery. Um so some of these grants could you know continue to allow us to pay at a rate we were paying and keep our rates a little bit lower possibly than where we need to go if we don't get these grants. So just great to work with community members on an item like that. Congratulations to Jamante. So on reaching the distinguished status.
Second by Travis, any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um now we have some summer support positions. You can tell we're getting ready for the season, aren't we? Time for summer, bring it on. >> Yes, asking for approval for the following positions. These are summer support positions. You're going to see a lot of them that are our normal um positions that are asked for. There is an addition this year of four moving crew or custodial staff members. There are a lot of summer projects this summer and we're needing to have some additional custodial moving crew help. So you're going to see that listed. Um asking for approval for three technology positions, seven custodial positions, three groundskeeper positions, one central office assistant position, and the four moving crew {slash} custodial positions. I'll entertain a motion to approve. I have a motion by Chelsea, do I have a second?
>> Sorry about that. Um I've emailed uh responded to that email asking interested in participating in that historic preservation training there two one hour training virtual programs. >> Oh >> sounded like a good one to >> participate come back bring it. >> Yeah that does sound very very good actually. Thank you. >> He says they're partnering with the National Alliance of the Preservation Commissions. Trainings will be one hour each via Zoom. They asked for three designers from Ashland. The historic preservation committee did. Did they send it to everybody depot or just you? >> I think it only came to us. So if it's like it's a larger one. So I think it's >> I'll share that with the board. All right. Um why don't you tell us if you know um Jasmine um is where the housing production plan is right now. Do you know have any updates on that?
These are some of the things that have have changed since last year when there was no food service management company and this year with a food service management company. Uh, one of the major changes probably I don't need the microphone. Okay, thank you. um is that the Witson what previously were Bolton food service employees are now Witson employees with the exception of oh everyone you're right everyone now is a Witson employee um that means there's an HR issue that has now been lifted off of the district that becomes the responsibility for benefits operational discipline issues should they arise are all dealt with by the food service management company. Um, this is also important. We're trying to write a ship here, if you will. And very similar to your household budget, there's two considerations in in trying to write that shift. One is to um reduce your expenses.
So congratulations to all the teachers of the year. I do want to address the board and let you and everyone know that uh we have concluded our signature gathering for Prop 55 renewal. Our target was 85% of our membership was just a little bit under a thousand teachers and we actually hit 86%. So very pleased to report that uh statewide CTA reported that about 50% of our membership statewide of 320,000 teachers were able to sign. We also gathered almost 600 additional signatures uh from non-teers and community members and other employees. We partnered with our friends from CSEA to coordinate site visits so that they could capture hundreds and hundreds of their signatures as well. So, we're looking pretty good and actually our organizing team met today to begin to plan the first steps of the get out the vote campaign once that qualifies for the ballot uh in November.
So, the the dozen people here took care of them pretty fast. Well, Girl Scout cookies are just so good. Yes. So, we had this kind of donation. We had somebody stop talk to us about donating time. This is wonderful. Thank you. Item 2.7, adoption of the agenda. I need a motion to adop adopt the agenda as presented. Madame President, before you do that, um I would uh recommend that you drop Would you scroll down, please, Cassie? New business. Clear at the bottom. Um uh that you adopt the agenda on uh leaving out uh 10.5. I'm withdrawing that item. You're with I'm withdrawing that item. Okay. Okay. All right. So, I need an adoption of the agenda. Um, with the omission of item 105, I I make a motion we adopt the agenda as presented with the withdrawal of uh item 10.5. I'll second the motion.
So I really liked how they put that J money together. So I mean it's a new one. Um and through ISBA. So thank you for um making your efforts to get your training in. Congratulations to the board. They gave us a new plaque to go. If you remember, we had all the long awards coming along so that you guys are continuing to keep your advanced status and I will look at trying to get an approved trainer to come in so that we can take that next jump. I think that's the only thing we're missing. So, I appreciate all the time that you put in to being a great board and a great great board members and a great board. Thank you. color guard won a state championship um in regional a Hayes Davidson category. Um so set a new school record. This is outstanding. And this is Crawford'sville color guard all by itself.
