So now we're taking that street data and now our teachers are saying I thought I we the system the department the content you know uh thought we got that we nailed it but it doesn't seem that you know we did and we got to go back and and and slow down we got to improve here we got to bring in some you know teammates and and that's how we're learning through that pausing listening and then reimagining. >> Thank you very much Dr. Yes. >> I think yeah Carlos great great job. There's a couple of things Dr. Mcgollison and and board uh trustees. One is next year is the um the unveiling again of the new newly revised California standards for the teaching profession or the CSTPs. And I can share with you again the updated version of what they're going to look like, but they're far more sophisticated and go way more in depth uh in terms of what the expectations are for the teaching standards.
I Charlene Diaz. Hi, Barb Zerziki. I Sheila Bernett. Okay. 11.1 Future topics. Do we have any future topics we'd like to talk about? I'm hoping that we get to hear more like what we heard tonight from the kids. you've done an exceptional job of of uh I don't know whether you've asked the principles to come up with the ideas or whether you've come up with the ideas but exceptional job of of doing keeping us informed of what the kids are up to. I I'd like to make a comment about an observation. Um for the kids expo that we had um I had my own chiropractic office booth which happened to be exactly across from the school district's booths and I just the effort that went into that on their end and the energy and it was just well done. I really thought it was just if I was a parent, the energy was just amazing.
>> Okay, I think we got that right. Does it sound >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Thank you, Angel. All right. >> Google's important. >> The word plantings is not in there. >> All right. Anything else from any party, the why or the board? That's why there's only one of those here. Okay.
And I'm proud of the work that we've done have done as a district. And you know, I know Jeff I think he's still in here. F has been really supportive with with when I was in ED division now with Amy in the way that a lot of matter of fact all the professional learning that we do in ed services with our staff across the district whether it's a civic engagement training it's a summer colloquium on the performance task assessment piece they're all been intentional to integrate the new CSTPs which if you look at them they have things that are far more in-depth and aligned to the community school approach and our career preparedness system framework they talk about things like implicit bias that is not something that was in or something that was uh reinforced previously in classrooms. So these are all things that we're working towards.
There you go. Credit to Lance and Kate had a booth and uh for Childmind. Uh Sheree had a bo a booth for uh parent liaison and homeless. Did I miss anything? Lance did the Lance did the main one um and got everybody set up. It was fun to go see what it was just really like the way that uh Miss Wily was talking to parents who the kids went to a different different school. I mean, she it was just it was great. I just thought it was a really good representation of what we're trying to achieve. Make sure that gets back to your team. Well, well, two of them are here and they work hard at it. So, okay. I'm glad they're here to hear it. Good job. You never know who's watching. I didn't make it to kids expo this year. I had Canada practice, but that's either here or there.
Then um if there's nothing else um we will then look to uh first close the public hearing and generally between if we close the public hearing we can still discuss but if there's any discussion we we usually have our discussion right away and then we close the public hearing and then we move to a vote. Um but uh but there is there is a space in there for discussion by the board once we close the public hearing. >> So >> are there any public comments out there? Is that >> I will ask if there's any public comments um before we close the public hearing. >> No. All right. On that note, um I will make a motion that we close the public hearing >> for 30 Memorial Drive, YMCA. >> Second. >> And a roll call vote. >> Deep Wankit. I >> Tespaniski. I >> Montino I.
So as we do our professional learning, our our teachers across district are getting more and more of those kinds of experiences. The other thing I was going to share is this year and I don't remember it was on the slides but I don't know if Carlos alluded to it but the great work that Diana Fujimoto and our team have led with Carlos and our guests you may recall Shane Sapphir and her team the pedigogies of voice that started with the leadership teams at each site but it was going deeper with identity work and really helping having the idea that students can work with teachers to create lessons together. So teachers are actually co-creating lessons with their teachers to um integrate the student voice that cultural relevancy in the classroom. So again, it started this year with a small group of leaders from each school, but the goal and the aspiration is to continue to expand and build upon that.
Can't be in two places at once, but I'm glad I'm glad, yeah, that was happening. Item 11.2, upcoming board events. Um, as per usual, we have this all prepared for us. 19. When does Maryland's Has it already happened? Um, kindergarten round up. Uh, last week. Last week. Kindergarten. 24th. How'd it go? It went pretty. I mean, we had for most of Desert Valley. I think they had like 40 and they had 24 25 somewhere in there at each sun island. Interestingly, the uh the state uh birth rate this I just learned this like just a week before that uh the Arizona birth rate uh was up in 2021. Oh, good. Well, which says that we might have more kindergarters than we thought we might have. It drops again. It dropped again in 22 and has been dropping since. But it that was the highest year probably in the last 10 years.
>> And Trisha Kendall I. Um I just actually want um you to put that number nine up there. Just I don't want to change it. I just want to read it. >> Yep. that we just that we just went through. >> Whatever it was, C on page eight. >> Sorry. Okay. No, it's okay. We can read it from there. So, in no event shall any of the following be permitted without authorization from the board at a public meeting unless the changes are deemed dimminimous per the authority having jurisdiction. So, Sounds good. Okay. >> And the one she brought up about the trees, that's also edited. >> Yes. Making sure we have the attachments. >> Okay. So, on that note, um, did you want to see that one, Deepa? >> Okay. >> We trust it. >> As long as Jasmine is saying it's in there, >> right?
So as we continue to move year after year, we start to see that more and more in classrooms as it aligns also with the CSPs that I referenced and just our drivers as a district as a whole. >> I love that. Thank you, >> Trusty Hosi. Well, first of all, I want to thank the community schools team for including Cypress, Lexington, Oxford, Walker, and Kennedy to uh you know to to this work. Um looking forward since 30% of the students in those schools come from outside the attendance area. I think it's gonna uh give an opportunity for more equitable services and practices. So, I'm really thankful for that. So, thank you, Emma. Thank you so much for your presentations. I saw people in the audience crying tonight from your presentation. So, you you did your job tonight. So, thank you. >> Um yeah, didn't give her another round of applause.
So and and think about that 2021. Uh so uh yeah. So um but we had about the same number of stu of kindergarters register during roundup as we've had the last couple of years. So time will tell. Okay. May 19th. Um, anything special on here, Lance? As you can see, pardon me. As you can see, green, there are a lot of school activities. Lots of green. month and a half, you know, as school year winds down from a community standpoint. Uh if you're looking for places that you want to have your presence or things that you might be interested in, uh next week on the 15th, I'm sort of intrigued by the oldtimers of Mojave River Valley. It's going to be at the museum. I don't know who the speakers are going to be. Um but uh the museum website says that folks who've been in the area for a long time are going to talk about history bridge to bridge.
Who would like to do the honors? Is Is there any discussion? Okay, big moment. We're approve. Well, >> somebody's got to make >> We're making a motion. >> Mo, we're making a motion to approve. >> Then I make the motion to approve the TA >> the decision >> the special permit site plan review >> design plan review site alteration special permit >> for 30 Memorial Drive >> I'll second that. >> All right vote I >> Anna Tesmani I >> Scotier I >> Paul Montino I >> and Trisha Kendall I So there you go approved. >> Thank you. Woohoo! >> Madam Chair, members of the board, and Jasmine, thank you very much. We appreciate your patience with us and all your time and consideration. Thank you again. >> Thank you very much. >> Thank you all. >> Same here. And I'll get out there and build us a Y.
>> Carlos, I know that um you know, the cycle's going to be up for some of these like you know, it's going to be due. So, um and I know you talked about u the governor's um the billion dollars. Do we have to when that cycle is up for our schools? Do can we reapply or are we going to look forward to maybe being privy to um to those funds? >> Exactly. I mean Okay. So there's a lot of experts in the room and whoever you want to call on. I mean yeah not you Tyler. Jeff and and people are very much aware of what the the governor stating and how it's going to work. Here's what we we think. We have a hunch but we got to wait for the mayor revise. we have $5 million and we're like, "Okay, we we we hope we get that money, the remaining money for the grant in in the fifth and final year next year." But what we're hearing is they may use that money and and and as part of the ongoing uh billion dollars and then uh but it's pretty what we're hearing is pretty efficient in terms of applying.
Uh we're probably going to have some of our students in the ghostike theater show up at Mountain View Center. That's the children's theater um under River City Community Fair Players. And then one of our parters in the community is Boys and Girls Club of Colorado River. They are going to have uh a fundraiser on May 5th for a single deio fundraiser which will benefit some of our kids. Those are probably community standouts that I can think of. But everything else, there are some of the school things that you might be interested in, too. Uh, another one that's coming up on May 5th, Lance, is uh at the senior center. They're having a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser for the food bank. Okay. I saw it was on one of my events things on Facebook and stuff. I saw What's a growth assembly? Um uh the growth assembly I think has to do with how um celebrating how much k individual kids have grown on uh benchmark testing.
>> Yeah. Can't wait to be there. Can't wait to see you. >> Donate. >> Tell your friends. >> Thank you everybody. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Bye. >> Appreciate it. >> I do have that printed so I am going to ask everybody to sign that before you leave tonight. >> Okay. >> Sounds good. >> Oh, with so with all the changes already. >> Yes. Okay. All right. So, moving on. There's really just the one thing left on our agenda. Um, and that is uh 240 to 260 Pleasant Street site plan review. This is the >> Yes. So, there's a um I think so those are revised April 3rd. So that um would have been when >> just last week >> has anyone copies down there? >> Thank you. >> All right. And so Wayne is here again tonight? >> Yes, he is. >> Okay.
We don't have to apply it. We we applied we did this together. It was a long every single year we were applying for all of our schools. Uh the ones that weren't on there It's pretty simple, right? What you're hearing, Jeff, and and Joe, it's like we just say we're interested and then they give us a money or I don't even know if we need to say we're interested. >> Just just go like this and the money is coming. >> Fair enough. >> Yeah. So, stay tuned, but we're waiting as as well. And what's going to happen with the >> um what about um community schools and our in alternative school sites like CVA and so forth. How is are we doing anything? >> Yeah. Connect those dots. >> Yes. So alternative also Polaris independent studies which is part of the alternative experience Gilbert part of the alternative they their community schools funded schools they have community school teacher league coordinator uh I was just talking to Hilda about CVA and how do we uh they've been a part of the professional learning so in terms of professional learning and and building their capacity they are building capacity just as the other schools do they have those teacher leads and coordinators specifically uh they have a faces and they know that the CVA is a little different and So faces does a little bit of work that is unique to to CVA.
Uh so it identifies you know it recognizes kids who've made you know whether they're which whichever one of those colors are in or if they've moved between colors. So, you know, it's an opportunity even for some of those kids in the maybe still in the uh minimally proficient, but if they are kids who've grown 20 points or whatever, uh get recognized. So, we don't have a time for that though, right? Uh I I mean, I don't know. We don't know. It wasn't on their calendar. The time was not It would be during the school day, though. Okay. And if there was one school event in their calendar, probably Yeah. I just put that on my calendar. That's probably a good one for you to plan. I put that on my calendar right now and when I saw that I got it on the calendar to it.
Um Wayne, can you go through any changes from this if this set was revised April 30th? Um >> oh, sorry. Third. Um what were the changes that was being made? I don't recall. >> Sure. Uh thanks, uh Madam Chair, Wayne Bell, Land Design Collaborative. Um I have a couple representatives from uh the church here, uh tonight as well. Um so um John Dudley and um Roger Martin Rogers uh a member of the church and is also with the Green Leaf um landscaper. The changes were minor madam chair. Um and what I can do is uh looking at them they were peerreview comments very minor. Uh I could go through their letter if you'd like. uh they highlighted things in red. Um and so uh basically where we are is we at this point pretty much have a clean bill of health with them. Um so one of the things was uh there was an erosion sediment control barrier uh in the northeast portion of the site uh that um GCG called out stating that uh it it wasn't there.
It their their job looks a little different. Um as far as instructional leaders, they do have instru I mean a lot of instructional leaders there as in many schools and what we are trying to do is be creative with who is going to be in terms of professional learning for next year. As we bring our schools together our our community school teacher lead, our 5C's our title one coordinators are coming. CVA also will be bringing two instructional leaders that will help them. they they don't have necessarily a community school teacher lead um because they're they're a little they're a little different uh in terms of their uh experience, but they have experts that can be take on those roles and build their capacity to be able to to share widely. >> Okay. Um and then also I see that you are combining the school set council and the community school site team.
It's May 19th. Yeah, May 19th. Growth assembly 8:30, which means the growth assembly. We can find out and send it. Cass can send it to you. Is that a Wednesday? No, it's a Tuesday. Yes. Um time 11.3 time, date, and location for the next meeting. Uh, it's tenatively set for um May 14th at 5:00 PM. Oh, that's the doors opening. 5:30. Yeah. Is everybody set with that date? Anybody having problems with May 14th? Charlene's making faces. What are you doing on the 14th? Well, on the 14th, I have my bonus grandson who's being promoted from 8th grade. Oh, okay. From Mal. All right. On the 15th, my bonus granddaughter is graduating from Mal. And on the 16th, I'll get out. My granddaughter is graduating from River Valley. I'll get out my paper calendar year. You've got you've got a busy three. And then I just saw Fox Creek's graduate promotion is on the 19th.
