it was there but it was obscured by some other things. Um so we added a couple more call outs uh to that area. Um the other thing was uh um the deep sumped hooded catch basins that we had in the parking lot. Um GCGs uh was saying that uh it needed better treatment before discharge uh to the um subsurface system uh because of the soil. So we modified uh those structures. Uh the other thing that changed on the plan uh was a note uh regarding the snow storage uh that wasn't to be placed in any uh areas for drainage and that excessive snow that was on the site uh if there was no place to store it was to be removed from site. They asked for a note to be placed on the plan and it was um there was another note that they had asked for uh adding uh that the represent uh representative of the planning board be included in the review the vegetative screening prior to the vegetation uh augmentation along the frontage uh and the note was added.
Yes. Okay. I know um like school set council parents typically are are they elected or do they have to get voted on and what is the selection process for the members of these teams? >> Emma wants to talk about that and then I'll I'll fill in the blanks. Emma's got is familiar. >> Okay. >> So Anime High School is we did have a merger. So for school site council they are elected. So those two are separate. When we're voting um specifically for school site council, it's school site council members voting. And so then the community school site um members, they are in the room. We talk about our proposals for community schools. And then when it comes with community schools work, like our proposals, then the community school site members are voting. So for the community schools, it's two years that they're on that um committee basically.
Yep. Mhm. So, but I can make the 14th because Oh, you can make the 14th because his promotion is actually in the morning. Okay. So, I can put my paper calendar away. Yes, you can. Got it. Steve morning. So, um I need a motion. Do we need a motion to do this? No, I didn't think so. I do need a motion to adjourn this meeting, though. Can I have a motion to adjourn the meeting? I'll make a motion to adjourn this meeting. All those in Oops. I'll second that motion. All those in favor? I saski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. I Barb Zarsiki. I Sheila Bernett. Done. Thank you all. Thank you. J Heat. Heat.
Um the other thing uh uh they the original tot lot that we had out there we were looking when we first spoke this was last year uh with the church they were looking to do a >> a recre a little tot lot and the discussion came up you know maybe it is we're going to do playground equipment. They've moved not to do that and that was a while ago. Uh but um they're not doing it as a tot lot, no playground equipment, so it's just going to be um loaned and seated. Uh uh there was another note um minimum uh 30 in per hour per square yard uh to be specified for the synthetic turf. Their concern was the infiltration rate. The note was added. It was resolved. Um they also discussed um Yep. So that that note carried over into the details as well.
So my two years are already run up for my um freshman and my sophomore year. So, I'm there not as a voting member, but as someone who's like the connection between the district and then the site. And then our school site council team members are it's the same way. They're on there for the two years and they are elected. So, students are elected, parents are elected, um staff is elected. So, it's all elect um election. Um schools for community schools, it's more so our students that are on the um committee and then we look for more students who are involved. Um, so I know when I when my time was up, we found more students to fill that spot and then it just goes like that. >> Yeah. And and this this now merger, so that's what's kind of been going on now as we as we are merging.
Um uh they had a grading uh their concern they we showed a a contour uh within the synthetic turf. We explained to them because of the accessible handicap parking spaces there was a walkway in front of it. Now, had we left the barrier between the So, it's basically a weed block, it's a um uh just a an impervious uh like a curb almost type of thing um which would be below the the height of the uh the turf, but it it separates the weeds from the grass from working its way into the uh the turf. had we not lowered that at that location of the the field, it would be a tripping hazard. So, that's how we responded back to GCG. And uh they note that it was resolved. Um >> and I'm sorry, where where are you in the um list here? And I I might have I don't >> where are you in the list right now or are you following the GCG list?
There's some compliance pieces because this is our community school site council. And so Dr. Simu who helps oversee the school site council world. Um there are compliance pieces that we so everyone that's voting is elected in now. So, as we as we marry the two, uh, those will so the the group will perhaps bubble up to a little larger because we're bringing two schools together, uh, excuse me, two teams together. The bylaws will reflect that there's going to be a transition year of bubbling up to instead of having 14, maybe we're going to need 18 because of those um, members that still have one more year left. Moving forward, it's going to be nice and clean. And everyone will be elected. Everyone will be nominated and will be elected. And again, that's staff, that's families, that's students, uh, and and members of the voting. >> Yeah.
And I don't think >> Yeah, I'm just Madam Chair, I'm just blowing through their letter. Um but I could if you want I could hit on each of them. We could go right to the sheets. Yeah, I don't I don't think we need to um I don't think I didn't realize that so many of the the the changes for the April 3rd drawings were the these um the things that you were going through with Concom that um that that G that you that have been resolved with GCG. So yeah, I was looking for if there was any changes to the plans that are >> maybe involve parking or um no >> the the vegetation or something that the planning board >> N. >> Okay. >> No, Madam Chair. >> Okay. Sorry about sorry about that miscommunication. >> No problem. There are some um items on the plan um in their letter that they had raised that we had responded to them earlier on that you know we would defer to the planning board and perhaps incorporating it as a condition in their decision and they had echoed the same thing on different items.
I just wanted to confirm we're going to be in compliance. That's all. >> Yes. Yes. Doc, >> Dr. Se will help us make sure we're in >> complian. Thank you for that. >> Have any other district done this? >> No. And that's what's exciting. I mean, there people are reaching out to us and they're saying, "You did what?" Right. And so now this is I mean, this is the way forward. How do we create um you know a holistic way uh but a uniform way and and how we learn about community schools approach collaborative shared responsibility shared decision-m while being compliant and um >> so you're making history Mr. Hernand is >> the team the the the community is >> congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. >> Um that was that was my question about the the merger uh and how that uh how that was going to happen and I think that's brilliant.
So the only outstand so there's really nothing outstanding there isn't anything outstanding on the plan um but you the only things that may be outstanding are you know conditions from the planning board um incorporating conditions uh to resolve some issues um >> right I think and I think we started to go through these last time um if not even got through most of them I think we had acknowledged Ed um talking about load I'm going through the ones that um that here in the GCG feedback that require board approval. So the first one that I'm seeing is page five number 15 at the top and it talks about requiring a loading area. I think we discussed last time that >> that a loading area isn't really needed on a site like this. Um is that is that me having planning board? I wasn't there. >> Okay.
Um getting all the players in the same room. Um it's um CS CSBA is also talking about um you know the duplicate uh things that we have to do and that's kind of one of them and um trying to eliminate all of that and and this is a smart way to do that. Um Emma, you're brilliant. Oh my goodness, I cannot believe you're only a sophomore. That's just um you're amazing. So thank you so much for your presentation. Um, so I had another question about uh I wanted to ask a parent um if they could talk about their experience. Sorry to put you on the spot, but we really appreciate hearing from you if uh anyone would like to speak about this process and um you just give us a a a brief example of uh what you've learned. >> I think they're voting for you, Marissa.
Um, >> yeah. So, everyone let me know. Um, the the second question I think we talked about too was that the um is a question about whether the sign is in the side setback or the front setback. >> Yeah. So, it's a Yeah. So, it's interesting, Madam Chair. Um, and and I think it's a I'm sorry. Go ahead. I I was going to say, is this because the sign sits in the side setback for the other lot? Is that >> No. Okay. >> No. So, if if you could go to if you wanted to go to the plan, I could show you the diff it's it's a different interpretation here. And this is what I and what I said to GCG. I said, well, rather than go back and forth because, you know, we could do this for years. I said, 'Wh don't we just put have a condition in the decision that they they need to obtain a sign permit from the building department.
Or or or maybe we have worked with terms of curriculum later. Yeah. >> You can do it now. >> Oh, okay. >> I don't want to mess up your process >> to to be continued. All right. I appreciate that. Um, thank you so much. Great presentation and thank you all for serving on the committee. We appreciate it. >> Thank you so much. >> Okay. Uh going back to 8.1 uh 2025 226 AHD artificial intelligence reports and I am deferring to Miss Amy Kwan to introduce our presenters. >> Thank you. And I will uh introduce Diana Fujimoto our director of curriculum and instruction and professional learning to introduce our team that will be presenting on AI. >> Yes. Thank you. Good evening, board of trustees, board president Guerrero, um superintendent Freed, Cabinet, members of the AUHSD community. We are very excited to be able to share um this report on our AUHSD year of building capacity around AI.
Um, so if you look at this here, if uh you wouldn't mind zooming in for a minute. So the sideyard setback, so the sign is situated up in that northeast uh northwest corner. The front yard setback is 40T. Okay, the sideyard setback is 30 feet. If we could scroll to the existing conditions plan for a second, you will see the the yard setbacks. Uh that's further up the sheet, further up into the set. Uh one more perhaps. Here we go. So, as you see, that front yard setback is 40T. The sideyard setback is 30 feet. So, we're saying that it's located within the 40 foot setback and not the sideyard setback of 30 feet. So, when we look at this, we kind of, and this is the way I've always looked at it. When I look at a front yard setback, more often than not, they're more restrictive than sides and rears.
So um I have an amazing team who's going to be sharing. They've been in an integral part of this work. We have um our district library librarian, media specialist and AI lead Jenya Vera and our uh Tyler uh Sherman who is our ecadence lead. So they will be highlighting professional AI readiness. Uh we've been uh they've been facilitating um with staff the creation of a vetted AI tool catalog and our AUHSD AI workg group. So without further ado, I'm going to ask Jena to start us off. >> Hello. Good evening, President Guerrero, members of the board, cabinet, and our entire AUHSD community. U my name is Justennia Vera, as Diana Fujimo said, Fujimoto said, and I serve as the district librarian media specialist in AI lead. In this role, I am responsible for coordinating our strategic efforts and most importantly preparing our AUHSC staff and students and families um to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by AI.
Um, the only exception to that is if you're in a commercial district and you want storefronts right at the sidewalk. Um, but in this particular case, uh, the front yard setback is more restrictive. So anytime I I look at this, I would argue that along that sideline of the layout of the road, 40 ft back, everything within there is within the front yard setback. Now once you get past that, once you get past that 40 foot front yard setback line, then I would say that's the sideyard setback. But right now, we we interpret it as being in the front yard setback. GCG says it's the sideyard setback. I guess it all depends on on how you look at it and that's why madam chair we suggested that it become a condition and the decision um that they when they apply for a permit. >> Yeah.
It's an honor to share how we are engaging in this work together. Okay. So, AUHSD has moved from theory to practice implementing AI with ethical guardrails that exceed Orange County's grand jury report. Our AI frameworks, we have a staff and a student-f facing document now serve as our northstar, ensuring technology remains human centered. Safety is our priority. Every tool must pass our rigorous ISR review for furpa and privacy compliance. By standardizing on Google's Gemini and ecadence, we ensure a secure ecosystem where district data is strictly protected and never used to train external models. To kick off this school year, we launched foundational training for all credentialed staff. This video-based initiative focused on AI literacy, data privacy, and most importantly, maintaining the human edge. This semester, we expanded that reach by launching foundational training for classified staff. I am currently partnering with our classified HR director to ensure this critical training becomes available to every classified member across the district.
I think for me it depends on um who your neighbor is, you know, in a way >> but um that as as the the same property is owned um next door, I don't see as an issue. If it was a different if it was a different owner, I might not want it outside setback. >> Yeah. >> So, um so to me it's in an okay location, but if that property ever becomes separated from the owner, it may they may request that it the location of that sign would be contingent for me that the properties remain um owned by the same person or the same entity. So there are a couple things that that come into play here. So if we were to and I and I looked at this I said so where GCG is saying you know we're in the sideyard setback. I thought to myself well how do how do we resolve that?
Okay. >> Our credential foundational training has delivered measurable success. We've seen a massive growth in knowledge. The number of teachers identifying as not at all confidence in AI literacy dropped from nearly 400 to under 50 at the end of the training. Beyond just technical skills, we've doubled teacher awareness regarding AI bias and flawed data. Most importantly, we have reached a strong district wide district-wide consensus on the importance on the critical importance of using only vetted approved tools to protect our staff, students, and families. We are deeply committed to our classified personnel through a strong partnership with HR, CSEA and ED division. We are enhancing AI literacy across all roles for the 2627 school year. As aptly, this presentation is named building capacity. Um we will offer tailored workshops with beginner, intermediate, and advanced tracks. Additionally, I provide department specific training tailored to individual job roles on demand, showing exactly how AI can enhance daily workflows while maintaining our essential human in the loop approach.
The way to resolve it is to move it more easterly but in doing so it's going to require clearing for lines of sight so that it would be visible. So this would be the ideal location. um uh here. And again, like I said, I'm I'm viewing this as a front yard thing, and I I hear what you're saying. It's, you know, uh which side is the neighbor. Um so, I appreciate that comment. >> Any comments from the board? That that's just my I have no problem with where it is now. I can see if it if there was a different neighbor, it might be more of a problem, but it isn't. So um so to me it might be a condition that's as as long as the two pop properties remain owned by the same entity you know then then it's fine >> and and and madam chair again like I said this is kind of why I I suggested that you know at the end of the day they're going to have to go for a permit from the the building inspector >> right?
