Uh but they were intrigued by a lot of the science projects where they could actually do the very um the very experiments themselves. So it was great. I loved uh how they did that. Ball Ball's open house was also amazing. I want to give a shout out to Carolyn Fry, department chair of social studies. She literally converted an entire room into a museum, >> right? Like you go in there and you learn history through and and it wasn't just that. She was very passionate about the works that the students had created, right? Very primary sourced uh analyses. It was just amazing. So, uh >> tell them what what the criteria was. >> Yeah. No phones, no technology, no AI, no nothing. >> And and everything had to be Yeah. Handwritten. >> So good. >> And everything was done in class. >> Yes. In class. Um Yeah.
It was amazing. So, uh great job. Magnolia High School's open house is also amazing. Uh I love their theme. It was very Olympics based. You know, all the students uh coming in with the flags and whatnot. Uh and then uh of course March 19th to 21st, I did attend the student and community voice AI summit. I know a lot of our own district staff uh and faculty and staff throughout our district uh in addition to our partners did a lot of work on that and I truly believe that we are uh leading the way with regards to artificial intelligence to make sure that's done responsibly. Uh and then yesterday uh at an aware I came to the principal meeting and wow talk about so many events that you cover within a short amount of time especially the last couple months. So great job. It was great to see our cabinet uh uh leading in that.
Uh and that concludes my report. Thank you very Oh, I also went to spring break and it was great and I'm nice and balanced and ready to end the year right. Uh thank you very much. That concludes my report. >> Thank you. >> Who's dope? >> Trusty Hushi was dope. Um, I too went uh to the theater and dance showcase and I love how how the kids are so connected. I mean the dance the dance programs at our schools are increasing and I see more connectedness and then I talked to some of the administrators and they're like that kid was in my office. That kid was but it I love seeing the kids connected. So I'm seeing more of that. Uh, I went to a show choir competition in Brea and um our our kids are going to be going to John Burroughs tomorrow night but Kennedy and Cypress and they're doing really an incredible job.
I want to let you know one of our students from Cypress High School, Taran Imi won an overall performer and I'm talking about really competitive showquires. She got the performer of the of the night. um went to the PTA administrator's dinner with Dr. Frerieded and we enjoyed enjoyed our chicken dinner at the not so tail. Uh I too went to the Orange County Department of Ed where Aiden Korea Lucy Sun was the the main speaker and um attended there with a few of my trustees. Oxford did a prefestestival concert on the 13th, Friday the 13th and it was a all their songs were based in um words by Shakespeare. So their whole uh repertoire was based on on on Shakespeare um which provided the lyrics. I want to uh give a bravo to um to tonight's choir tonight because a couple of those kids played the lead in uh Between the Lines, the musical Between the Lines and um it really I thought it was an inaugural way to showcase all of the projection sets that we use now.
I mean the it was just phenomenal the sound and um um and I sat right next to all the Macy's um judges. So they had a group of judges that come in and they go around. I think this was their 57th show and um and so they were so at the end of the at the end of the season they give awards and so uh good luck to our kids but they did a phenomenal job. Um the 14th I went to see our very own ALTA president and principal at Walker Junior High School, Dr. Jennifer Cisai received the woman of distinction award from Senator Tony Strickland's office. Um I went to a few days of the choir festival and saw our choirs. Um phenomenal job. I mean just really nice to see the kids connected and how well behaved they are. and went to on the 17th uh went to um CBA's um virtual well they had a market day and open house and like Dr.
Mcgala said on the 17th at in the evening, Western High School killed three I mean they did three events in one day. They did a car show which got the community in there and they did uh showcases of departmental showcases all down the driveway there and then it led into the gym with the international show which made me come to think that gym was packed with parents for their international show. I'm kind of wondering if we should combine events to get more people out, you know, so because everyone's there already. So, it was really good. Um, you know what? Uh, let's see. Um, and then more coral festivals, um, balls back to school night. And by the way, Carolyn Fry is a former student of mine. So, really, >> so she did a phenomenal job. And I was talking to Dr. Frerieded, we should do a history museum with art.
>> I mean, and showcase that because or else we can combine the two because it was phenomenal. And um uh I went to Oxford's Capstone, 8th grade capstone, and they put parents in each corner of the room. And they've been doing this for I think for a number of years, ever since like when I was there. And um they would have a teacher facilitator and then the parents would ask the kids questions. And the parents come out of there going, you know, this is the first time I've really had academic conversations with my students. And now hopefully that leads to them learning how to ask more better questions other than did you do your homework? You know, it's like, hey, what did you learn in class today? What did you get from that? So, if the parents couldn't attend, um, then they had seniors and juniors fill in, which I think is a a great idea to maybe think about.
Um, you know, I went to the AI reception on the 19th and heard Leah give a speech that night and um, you know what, I wish they would have saved her for the conference itself because I mean, you were great at the reception, but I just wish more people could have heard you and the our two other students from our district. you did us so proud. Um ribbon cutting for the comfort kitchen at Cypress High School. Um um our very own Parsme um did a our ambassador, she did a um a grant proposal and the grant we can renew it every year. Um went to Kennedy's musical six. I know it's Dr. Freed's one of his favorite musicals, but they did a phenomenal job. Oh my gosh, the sets, the lights, everything. And it was directed by a student, Anthony Hernandez, who's a senior. Um, the veteran uh of foreign wars and so forth.
Anaheim Post 3173 acknowledged two of our very own people from our community are SRO Sebastian Cortez who did connection before correction. Um he's done these things. He's an SRO at Sycamore and also Mark Lopez from Gilbert High School and Trusty Guerrero was there as well. Coffee with the principles. You know what? I can't say enough about Orlando and Tiffany. Um you guys I'm telling you again this is another situation where I think we need to videotape um their presentations because they talk about the nutritional values and um they do these taste testing and um the thing is this we inform parents about why we do what we do but I think the thing that resonates even more is the student voice that comes out that students have a choice and they can connect with their their school hero lunch heroes because the the staff is really open and again I want to brag on your p so because it's the best that I've had you know um I'd order it >> ne next month for dinner.
>> Yes. >> Yeah. our district held its own health fair and um I want to just really commend all the people from the district who were doing that because um you know they had people I mean I'm telling you that massage station was the most popular one and um they had food there and so forth. So thank you guys. I know it's we have a lot of activities but I want to thank you for um just really hosting that and Mr. O'Neal was there too. um the grand opening of the Lancer Lounge Wellspace and um from the Orange County Department of Ed who also designed the space and helped fund it and also from the Ratty Children's Foundation. The TEDex uh thing, a sophomore girl created that and I think it's just only going to get better and better every year. So, and we're going to have greater participation.
Again, another great demonstration of how we value student voice. And so, and this girl was just beaming at the end of the night um because she did this all on her own with the help of a um an a a an adviser and so forth. Uh Miss Randall Tjo and Trusty Guo and I, we went to the unveiling of the mural in Little Arabia and that was really exciting. And then yesterday, I'm looking out here and I just want to say I'm really glad to be a part of the insurance committee. Uh Leah and Joe, um you know what? You guys are so incred I mean like this is a committee. I mean it's not the most fun thing to talk about, but I'm going to tell you something. that group is very collaborative and it I think it it models the way like other committees should be because and Nancy I mean all you guys that were there um really kudos to the work that you're doing because I know that you're we're really doing our research to do what's best for our employees and I think all of the unions are equally vocal and represented there.
Um so thank you. And then today I got to go to the capstone and I see a lot of people that were there this morning. Miss Fujioto Karen our Karen I want to find out later how your granddaughter did in her capstone. Okay. And I'm sure she did you proud but it was really nice to see you there this morning and so forth and as well as Mr. O'Neal. So thank you very much you guys. There's a lot going on, but I again I want to just share I share these things because people don't know what they don't know and they need to know the wonderful things we're doing for our students and for our staffs and for our community. So, thank you. >> Thank you, uh, Trusty Randjo. Yeah, I echo the sentiments of my colleague that, you know, we get out there and and I think we all like to see firsthand what's going on and it really helps um drive our decisions that we make and so um thank you.
Uh thank you is not enough for all the work that you do, but we really appreciate it. We really try to see um uh everything and uh that you're doing. Um, uh, thank you for nominating me for a delegate. I was nominated again for the delegate assembly. Congratulate it. I was elected again to represent the state board. Um, thank you. Um, and Jessica and I were already uh, put to work as we did our legislative work on behalf of the organization with bills that CSBA are sponsoring. uh and the work that changes the trajectory of accountability. Eleas are all responsible um for uh the accountability of the work that you all do here. Um u but the legislative kind of sits back and they're you know pushing out all this legislative work and all these bills and you know we have a dashboard out there but the legislators don't have anything like that.
So CSBA is really trying to say, "Yeah, it's twofold. Um, we get all these unfunded mandates and, you know, we don't get the funding to execute that." Um, you guys work miracles with the finances to make this all happen. So, um, anyway, that's really, uh, the bulk of what we're, um, the organization is trying to do. So, we were able to do um, to do that work. Um Jessica and I single-handed No, I'm just kidding. Um attended the district theater and dance showcase. Um just a beautiful um and got a sneak peek at the Anaheims between the Lions uh theater production. Just great work. Attended the student discipline task force meeting uh the state of uh the county. Steve Stefan Bean uh with guest speaker Adon Korea from um um the TV. He's a TV personality from the um Love on the Spectrum and he is adorable and smart and um just he uh was standing outside and just greeting all of us, talking to us.
um and he uh is so humble and um so that was I'm sorry Stephan beam but that was the highlight of the um the address um my nocrop meeting I attended the LVN graduation ceremony where 28 new LVNs took the hypocratic oath and it's just a beautiful ceremony um if you have ever have a chance to see it they have the little light lanterns and they're all dressed in their whites and it's just a really beautiful um moving uh and 16 hundred hours they have to spend to get that. Um and a highlight for me was one of the students um as I was coming out of the restroom, she passed by and said, "Hey, you gave me my diploma when I graduated." So when she got up there, I got to hand her her rose. They give a long stem rose and a certificate, I mean a diploma.
And um and so I asked her, you know, where I mean, how many years ago? And she said it was three years ago that she graduated. So she's now an LVN. So that's great. And the rate of passing rate was like 97%. So >> every one of those uh LVNs have a job right now. So, um, the unveiling of the Magnolia Art Students Little Arabia mural celebration. You have to all go by and view it. Um, I think they're going to have um I heard something about postcards being printed up u to put out in the community. It's just absolutely beautiful. the artist that worked with them um wasn't able to be there. Um but he came out each time from East LA to be with the kids. He wanted to do that to give them the lessons and um you know made sure that um each student had um participated.
Um and uh what I was told was each student got to tour and um then they were jotting down notes and drawing designs and um you know got to taste the food, smell the smells and see the people and um the community was so welcoming. Uh so the students gave the ideas and then they picked the top three uh to create that um that mural and it's just gorgeous. Go by there and visit it. Um attended Ball Junior High's uh sycamores and South's uh open house, the district's health fair. Um although I didn't get there to get the back massage, I was able to make a couple couple of connections uh with some of the um vendors there and took away some yummy food. Um the early graduation of our two students at Catella um just bittersweet, I guess we could say that. But I was so grateful that the school really embraced them and their families and I know the families were really grateful for the work being done there.
Um I attended um I couldn't hear you speak because I was at the OCSBA's um March speaker event uh which featured um the dignity index um and they really talk uh really taught us about um you know put words to what we're all facing now. Uh, and and they use the word contempt. And I've never heard that word before describe how we're stuck, you know, because we have contempt. Um, and there's that huge divide and we can't talk to each other about these um um the divide that we're we're facing. Um, and then it becomes a dehumanization of uh of how we think about people. And when you dehumanize people, you don't care. Um and so it was really um educational. Uh I also want to thank our district for providing the online yoga and workouts and I know there was a survey recently. Um I attend them when I can.
Um it's a really nice perk. You guys, if you have time to do that, it you do that at your home. You can stretch and get recharged. And I really recommend um everyone to do that. Um uh attended the Kennedy Senior Senior Singers uh scholarship interviews. Um and all of the students that interviewed were a delight. Um and they're all going to go out and do great things. Um the future is bright. Uh the AUHSD soap fi soapbox finals. Um I was only able to hear the uh high school um but those uh students were absolutely phenomenal. Uh the student and community voice AI summit was a hit. Um and um for everyone all the great comments that everyone said my highlight was um Jason Collier's um uh uh presentation. Not just because of Jason, but there was a seventh grade student that also um presented seventh grade and was a professional and he attended the school that I work at at Franklin Elementary.
So, it was a nice reunion and to be able to just see that see the student flourish. So, uh, and congrats to all of our teachers of the year, um, at the school sites and then our three, um, uh, and congrats to all of the schools that, uh, won their awards. And, um, happy assistant principles week and happy library and all of the wonderful people that we salute, um, all year. Thank you. >> Thank you. Um this month I had the opportunity to attend the youth arts uh council. I want to thank our VAPA team for the opportunity to present to our students about policy and action. Uh very uh talented group of students and I'm excited for their presentation next month I believe in May. Um also had the opportunity to attend the between the lines musical at Anaheim High School uh theaters back at Cook Auditorium and so is dance.
