Um I know that you all all of the uh parents in the audience and all of the other adults in the audience know that the number one fear uh in the world is public speaking. But these kids have mastered it. Um they uh really achieve at a high level in all forms of communication. Um I really love the fact that this this program however teaches the things that I feel are most important in life. Teamwork, perseverance, character, time management, focus and drive. uh the importance of your voice in the ability to communicate effectively in public to others even in ways that may not be representative of common beliefs um or about controversial subjects is truly u laudable. Um thank you to our administration for supporting this program. Uh, thank you parents who have come to countless um speech meets which are all about 15 days long.
And so, um, early childhood, yes, while it's similar, it's different. People have different interests, different needs, and it's a different path. And it's really a good opportunity for us to offer those opportunities for that particular student who wants to be working with the the young students. And um what we were really excited about because the other thing we didn't want to do was cannibalize our education professions program and that's located in Southeast Fountain and provide services to all four of the schools in Fountain and Warren County. And we saw just a minimal uh reduction in the amount of students enrolled in that education professions class.
We need to get them out. Yes. We don't pay them, but we're not signed up on them, yeah. Okay. Yep. Yep. Yep. We're okay on that. So, what we're waiting right now on the bleachers, just give a quick update on that. Um Jeremy is down at the baseball game, otherwise he'd be here tonight. Um we have drawings on those. I believe you and Jeremy checked them today. They the measurements didn't match up with our current aisles and stuff, so we're sending those back. Once we get the the drawings correct and we've signed off on them, and approved them, um then they'll give us an actual uh production time and when they will be they'll be installed. At this point in time, it's now looking like we won't get it this summer. So, it'll probably be sometime next week. That's when they would be installed. But anyway, Okay.
Well, I got thank you Mike. Any questions for Mike? Chris with funding and other items. Two items tonight. Uh, from Voya. I believe you guys see you just this afternoon or updated version of our 403B retirement plan. As you approved earlier, we're going to be moving to a single vendor of just Voya. We plan to have the plan for you to approve at the next board meeting. And also uh, as you talked about in previous meetings, our February enrollment numbers were down around 80 students from our October count. So beginning in April, the Department of Education will reduce our state support through June by about $97,000 per month. We did talk about that. Those are the only items I have.
Uh first is the cons This is our second reading. Consideration of a recommendation to approve the LCSC classified handbook for 2026-2027. Is there a motion to approve? I'll make a motion. Motion by Becky. Do we have a second? I'll second. Second by Becky. Any further discussion? With none, all those in favor signify by sign of I. I. I. I. Sorry.
I make no apologies. This is me. >> [cheering] [applause] >> That was wow, a treat. Thank you. Thank you. On behalf of Dartmouth Dynamics, I hope you were as moved by our show as we have been through the process of creating it. Throughout the season this team has brought home four silver medals, making it the first ever full silver season, along with two best soloist awards and a best storytelling award. The people behind me have not only given the very best performances they can all season, but have also taken the time to understand the importance of the very lesson that we are preaching. Listen to your heart because you don't need to fit in to love yourself. >> [applause] >> Nice job. >> Thank you. Thank you. He is our first year, too. You would never know it and they've done a great job connecting.
And again, just a lot of different things happening out there outside not only with our activity our athletic teams, but you know, little kids uh sports and activities as well as our PE classes being out there and so on and so forth. Just As a matter of fact, today, due to Prairie View's field conditions not being good, we hosted JV baseball here instead of having to go to Prairie View. So, that was That's always That's what the third is right there. I struck Prairie View once. Exactly. Exactly. So, uh again, it also again allows our kids to be able to play, compete. We just don't, you know, it's all like that. Unfortunately, JV games get canceled and it's hard to make them up. So, uh it's a very nice positive um You have a report there that's attached as Parents as Teachers report. Uh this program is funded through the Mobilizing Literacy Walter and Evan Jones Testament Testamentary Trust Grant.
So, um the afternoon sessions are more built for like if juniors are wanting to take two years to complete a program or if you have a senior that just wants to maybe start in a program but not sure that that's what they want to do so then they could finish it later on or they could do the first semester and then take the second semester and complete. So, lots of different opportunities. I set a meeting information meeting for parents of going to be seniors for Wednesday night so I can explain all of this to them. Um We will have some pretty specific guidelines because as you can see construction tech and welding are both on here and we offer both of those programs here at the high school. So, I don't want to take away from our funding and our enrollment here. So, there will be a few requirements as like they will need to have completed two to three classes in that area before we can send them on to the college.
Um The information shared with the community people Um the information that we shared on this last call I don't know. That's all I know. Ronnie, can you move the phone closer to Dr. Soltero? Yes. This one just wanted to mention before I give my summary Um Mr. President and the board I know we have some some guests here and where they going to share some information. A long story short, we all didn't communicate on the same page as far as who is going to communicate during the agenda item. Um where they going to talk, where they going to communicate in my report, where they going to talk in the public comment. So, I know we have some people here and I'm just going to ask you to talk to me and share the information. You want to share the information. So, at this time before I give my Keep going.
So, um, with that, um, yes, we focus on reading. Yes, we focus on math. Yes, we focus on science. Yes, we focus on social studies. Um, but if you can't laugh every day and have fun doing it, kind of everything else goes by the wayside. So, it's not that that's our focus, but um it is a focus.
We had a study session. Study sessions. >> Yes, you're right. Okay, my bad. I'm sorry. I'm mentally all here. Okay, you know, got you. All right, hearing no hearing no further discussion, place the item for a vote. Motion carries. We move to the next item, action or section G, item one, request for future agenda items.
Walken is the is uh would largest district in Lake County and you can see they would get 14 million a year. So that's based on their student population. So the the this is this page just talking about the risks for debt. If you're going to pay for debts, you just got the risk is you can't you can't uh obligate funds that would be uh you wouldn't want to obligate more towards the debt than you could get in a year because then you got to come up with those debt difference. That's what I was just talking about a little bit ago. Okay. Yeah, that's about all I wanted to share with you. The election date is November 3rd. Um that's that's where we're we're targeting to get this on the ballot first time. Um there's a pretty heavy movement right now in Lake County on this uh with from some uh uh uh community groups.
Mhm. Uh there's some programs that could operate in that capacity, but it would really hinder the other school quite a bit. All right? So, that's where overwhelmingly people said collectively, "No, we should continue as a co-op." And I mentioned the girls golf aspect because you did have a team say, "Well, we'd like to form our own team as OH." But then that would leave OE in a very interesting uh situation. And we want to obviously support everyone. And once again, what would happen there is that the low number teams would just compete as individuals anyways inside the state series. They wouldn't compete as a team cuz they wouldn't qualify as a team to have those numbers. So, again, why we came back to this decision. Yeah, and just to go back to this slide here, um when we talk about collective teams versus individual awards as well, the the only sport up here that does not have um individual awards would be lacrosse.
Actually, that was only Ben Davis. Thank you for driving your kids at 5:30 in the morning uh to catch a bus. Thank you for listening to that speech one million times in the next room. Um, and thank you to Linda Langford for her um, tireless work and uh, the team she has built. And Dorian, to you especially because I'm your coach. Um, I want to thank you for dancing with me for when we broke in your shoes. And I uh, tell you that the hardest thing I've ever had to coach someone to do is how to do a back bend. Um, I just let her do it and told her she did a great job of it. Uh, but I just cannot wait for you to show um not only now and in the rest of your high school career, but from this point on the incredible person that you are.
So, it really it it fit all the all the check boxes and and the uh the rest of the superintendents in in Fountain and Warren County are supportive of this and um so >> do you have any questions? >> What's the capacity? Like do we know how how as far as how many students would be in it before it be like full? Well, I mean the goal is to have enough students to grow the program to a full day program and and I think we would have to really take a good this is like your pilot here, right? So, so you have the half-day program, you have a a new instructor, a new program, you know, in your facilities. So, I think this would be a good idea to say, okay, do we need more? Like, how many more can we handle during this period of time?
That's all I have, Mr. President. All right. Uh vegetables You've done reported yours? Um we've had some events going on. So, we had parents lunch a few weeks ago, um which is just a good way to get the parents in the building. So, that went well. We just had our spring fling last Friday, this past Friday. It was amazing. >> Yeah, they didn't hear it this time, did they? No, they got it. They got it mastered. Yeah. Um we used the whole school. They had a tent donated for Aker Industries that they set up. So, I felt like everything was spread out and we could accommodate everyone. So, it went really well. It was It was very impressive. Yeah. The halls were amazing. Everyone worked so hard. >> one I've missed in a long time. Where was I at? And it was the best one yet.
Any questions for Chris? All right. Don Puckett is here from administrative assistants. And back in the early fall, I believe, you had asked about the feasibility study where for us to look at our elementary config configuration. So, Don has conducted that study and going to present it and I'll let I'll just be quiet and tell us where you are where we are with this project. Um as he as Don mentioned, you guys contracted with us in the fall. So, this has been several months ago that we started collecting information and like any data and information, we all know how uh it it changes continually. Uh but this is kind of a a snapshot or a capture of that moment in time from the fall where we started out. Um you know, typically, the research on reorganizing or reconfiguring schools is um very broad, kind of all over the place.
Any opposed? They are approved 5-0 on the classified handbook. Next up is the second reading and approval needed for action item needed. Consider it consideration recommendation to approve the following change to policy 2340 field and other corporation sponsored trips. Is there a motion to approve? So moved. Is there a second? Second. Any further discussion? All those in favor? I. I.
And can I set one record straight cuz the student rep is on file. That team that did the spelling bee was not Mike and I's contribution. It was all Miss Santos. Let's be real on that. So, she deserves [laughter] all the credit on that. Thank you, everybody. Thank you, Mr. Shay. Thanks, Mr. Shay. Thank you. Thank you very much. Um All right. And next up we have a presentation on the curriculum cycle review. Would you like to Sure. Let's uh welcome Mrs. Paveo and Dr. Thibault, our executive directors of teaching and learning, up to share the plan for district-wide mathematics curriculum review. Tough act to follow, for sure, but >> I'll say. Okay. Oh, here it is. I knew I had it in here someplace. All right. Well, pretty evening certainly is a tough uh act to follow, but I think everyone's probably thankful that Katie and I won't be singing tonight.
Darla Long and I started work on this 10 years ago and again, uh Parents as Teachers uh we had it in the district, they dropped it due to funding before um I got here. Uh we fired that back up with the grant with the Mobilizing Literacy Grant. There's two big key components of the money that we use there. That's the Parents as Teachers program that funds Lori Johnson, which she's been here at different times to report, as well as the um Pre-K uh and Kindergarten Liaison position, Amanda Briggs. So, again, there's a report there, you can look at that, just some information. Um again, um it's a grant that's currently I say we don't know if it's going to continue on in the future. We're not sure. Um Parents as Teachers part of that for us is around a $25,000 amount. About 25 kids that are seen by Lori.
