It does need to have a sign up like the public is able to use this 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. It does need to have it where it's more open less like just for Parks and Rec. My concern is we just spent Google dollars to protect the students for the school. Right? We certainly don't want to do something that would jeopardize that protection. I I think the number one responsibility of the school board is to protect our kids, right? And then everything else is secondary. So, I've already been lobbied by my daughter in favor of this right. She told me, "Dad, you already got bins up here. You already got bins up here." But you know, that would be a fear that that we would have to look at in the district would be protection, right? Yeah. Protection of the kids that preschool right now. Yeah.
So I'll be happy to entertain any questions that you have. >> You have any questions? >> No. Do we I I do kind of just out of curiosity like if if we did do the a is it ACVS or how many students would we be expecting for >> when if we went ahead and accepted >> oh the Arizona school for deaf and blind I um Christine I think it was six >> I think it's six or seven yeah >> good question though >> yes for ASDB It's very um we're trying to figure out just the bugs of it just because we've never been an entity that someone pays tuition to come to. So, >> but we're So, Leanne and John are working on that with school finance. Um John is walking through the what it takes to set up the tuition collecting accounts and so we have and then Christine and Nicole are working on the special education pieces of it.
then there's very few large school districts in Correct. Illinois. So, there's like 490 small districts and like 20 big districts. And I think the good news is we we have school districts uh even within Ludlow, right? Is that this doesn't necessarily impact in a negative way, but they're also against it because they they they can see how it does negatively impact students. Um so, we do have those schools kind of lined up, and I've reached out to them, and we coordinate some of that response as well. Great. Just want to go to the board and just to say thank you both. Um your your directness, your involvement, and your leadership has been very important here. And really kudos to our coaches as you've mentioned a couple time. I too am um having been um really just uh thrilled by where we see 1 1308 is on our co-op teams, and I really look forward to all of our teams representing that kind of passion for our district and for the success that comes from being one team.

I move that the board of school trustees approve the accommodation for Nor Nancy Oregon as presented.
Any questions? >> So, do they actually use the textbooks or is it just >> Some kids do when they're in Mr. Beaver's class, there's a set of like 25 books, so they have the option, but a lot of kids do like it on the And it's nice because we have our accommodations, so like students can have it read, the lesson can be read out loud to them. There's interactive like tools to the side. There's video clips and things like that that they do use. Yes, we have. Go ahead and finish. >> We have a motion second. All in favor? I >> I none opposed. Um, what was you saying about this? >> So, this first policy reading of 6250. Sorry, I just got I went to the dentist today, so I'm starting to get my feeling back. So, if I sound like I'm slobbering. Um it it's a policy that has to be approved every year and it talks about what we will accept or allow for students for um proof of residency.
And the number of kids in our school district attending the school has decreased, right? In terms of percentages. And so, that would tell us we really are going to have to look at our staff and make sure that we are either reducing staff based upon the number of students enrolled and having the right appropriate ratio, what works best for kids, right? Reducing the staff or possibly uh reducing staff by attrition. You know, if you're looking at this potential um reorganization, you're talking about a a pretty lengthy process, right? And so, if it's going to take 3 years to go through the process, if you were to decide you were going to do this and if it were to take you 3 years to go through the process and get it organized and planned and in place, you're talking about all of 2029. In that time, there probably will be changes among your staff that looking forward, you can see how you might use those situations to better um make to make the rate the ratio uh a little more um not necessarily advantageous, but so that it fits budgetarily as well as educationally.
And so they can just bring up their hub boom boom boom there they go they're right to where they need to be there's no stress like within seconds click click boom they're right there. That has cuz we'll just say they'll ask us something we'll go it's in the hub. And which which is or they'll say I can't find it and we're like Okay, well we haven't put it in there yet. You know it's getting ready to be loaded into the hub so So I do want to another thing with the calendar which we had decided early on the calendar isn't our calendar it's it's Landis's calendar. But I can't give access to 92 people to be able to add and delete things to the calendar. So thinking through it we gave access to one person per team and they are kind of like the the calendar person because when something happens on the calendar it's it's ours it's not it's not the two of us.
Um but those are the two primary tools that we'll we'll use. Thank you both. Thank you. >> Thank you. So I just had a question about um so the teachers who pilot they volunteer? They do. Um do you ever have more volunteers than you want? I mean you could do do you ever have all the grades doing pilots or you just have a certain number of slots or do you have trouble finding teachers that want to pilot? I don't think we have trouble finding I mean so prior to this presentation I was able to meet with all of the grade levels at the middle school level. So all of our math teachers for grade six, seven, and eight and the math all of the math teams here at the high school as well. I think there's a lot of interest. Obviously these tools impact them on a daily basis.
Uh cell cell or bell to bell no cell next year, right? With the whole no cell phones. Um the state gave us zero money to spend on implementing this program. So, in my opinion, every dollar we spend on it, whether it's cubbies or whatever, blah blah blah, is coming out of staff salaries. Because it's going to come out of general funds. So, I think we should spend exactly how much money the state gave us on We have begun having conversations about this KASB, as I mentioned to you in my Friday um notes to you guys. We started having discussions and we want to have some input from KASB on policy and procedure and I know Craig is gathering some information as well. So, we're we we've got some time to sort through this, but you're right. Um it's one of those unfunded mandates. It's not fun.
Any opposed, same sign. Motion passes 6-0. Item number 15, the technology rotation. Okay, so we had our technology committee meet a couple weeks ago um and we're working on that rotation. What we would like to do is order nine more Clear Touch panels to go along with the ones that need to move uh need to be moved to be in classrooms because we've used refunds for those. This would give almost every classroom in the district a Clear Touch panel. We also need to look at either a rotation or replacing the desktop computers in Miss Crisis' room. And guys, this has been a real chore for uh for Evan and Scott trying to help come up with these quotes. These tariffs from day to day that they're putting on these technology items are absolutely crazy. So, from day to day it just depends. So, we're working on this right now.
The the kindergarteners. So, there has to be some way that the school to to make sure that that little kids are protected. What if the after hours We don't know. If you let somebody on campus unless you have somebody to monitor who you have going off of campus, you don't know if they spend the night underneath the stands and then show up at 8:00 in the morning, right? That That's You lay down all fours on the football coach, right? I'm all for the business. >> just talking for the I'm just saying that that that would be one of our fears. After spending all this money to protect the campus, now we're basically opening up part of the campus without and you can't expect Jose to only go down there every night or what or go there. So, I got to keep him in go down there.
So, >> thank you. >> Accept more children. Um that's those are that's the only number of students from our geographical area that were at the residential campus. >> Yes. >> Okay.
So, thank you both. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Um Next presentation is 6.2, the annual operations update. Okay. Mr. Obafemi, we are very excited. This is a practice that we started a couple of years ago to provide the board as well as the community an opportunity to get familiar with the work that uh are often neglected, but very very important operation team and the work they do to make it possible for our students as well as our staff to uh to live in an ambient building and to be able to do their work well. With that being said, I'm going to hand it over to uh the interim director of operation uh Andre Shansey as well as uh Amy Plant. You take it away. Thank you. Uh good evening, members of the board and superintendent We're going to get you an assistant.
>> Second motion by Mike, seconded by Jennifer. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Congratulations. All right, board members, any comments on our last final two for the evening for commendations? I think I think we just missed Chloe. >> I know. Everybody grab >> somebody grabing. Could you grab Chloe there or Mrs. Langford? >> We want to talk more about you. >> We we had several people to recognize and so we were trying to divide up a little bit of the the time. Um, so each of us are trying to to kind of represent the board with a few comments because if we went through all of us every time then we wouldn't get here. So, uh, apologize for being tardy with the comments on this one. Um, the the idea of being able to win a medal at um, teaching other people um, the skill of teaching itself.
Um and so we are not changing ours at all and what we we would want to see to prove that residency would still be like a a electric bill, a mortgage statement, a rental agreement. Um they always ask you can put in that a was it birth cert immunization but we've never had that as a proof of residency and I mean if I gave you my children's proof of residency from their imu im immunization it's Florida you know so we didn't feel like that was we didn't feel like we would want to add that so we left our policy exactly the same >> okay so we need this is just first reading so we don't need to we don't need to we'll approve this on on May. So that's the first reason. So all right, that was the only policy on this month's uh new business.
So, that might be one of the pieces we can look at there. It's an opportunity to decrease the number of transitions. Where um currently your kids have four, they could only have three. You're not probably ever going to get rid of all of them unless you're going to go to a K-12 environment, which you know, I I'm not sure there's much anybody that does that anymore. Uh I Wait a minute, I shouldn't say that. I do know two state of Indiana that do that still, but their numbers are much smaller. And so, we could reduce the number of transitions for students and they positively impact the school community. All of those factors that we had mentioned earlier might be in play there. You probably aren't going to have to do significant restructuring of your buildings. They they meet code for elementary schools currently, right? But you probably also are going to want to make changes if it fits your financial plan.
It's everybody's and so people can add and delete their grade level their group that it's title EL the library even has access and that way it they have the feeling of belonging it's part of theirs is not something that they're just following for for for me or for her. And then we have just a representation we do a lot about family but this is just a we have this over our copiers in our mailroom or mail main mailroom we are family. And we believe that we are family. And so I it makes me goosebumps cuz we I we we can feel it we can feel the difference when you walk in our building you can feel that you want we want you there. We just had a conversation of a teacher walked into the office and she was saying there's standing room only sometimes in the morning and there's people in there all the time coming in asking questions.
So I don't think finding volunteers is uh is an issue at all. It is a lot of work and I think that I appreciate Katie elevating that and certainly this opportunity to kind of elevate that cuz even at the secondary level where you're not teaching all of the subjects necessarily, you are teaching you know at the high school level you might be teaching algebra one and algebra two or algebra one and geometry or you know there are multiple courses within the discipline of math. So it takes on the same kind of a of a heavy lift. Um you know and it's it's particularly challenging. We you know we're very fortunate in Dartmouth to have a veteran teaching staff. But to implement any new curriculum for a veteran teaching staff can be challenging because it creates that unease of you have a new tool and you're trying to use that for the first time.
You can put that in the article. You can add that in there. Of what we're being directed to do without all this money. All the money we're We We haven't gotten no official guidance, but we did receive an email last week that uh I believe it was KASB. It was either them or KSDE. I'm not sure which one which group, but that they have visited with some of the legislature and and their intent was not really as deep as they have in the law and so they're, you know, looking at if they can work with them to kind of make a a compromise cuz a lot of them were like, well, we just kind of want them in backpacks. Well, it's not what it says. It's not what it says, you know. Exactly. Exactly. They would have to be hanging up in most of the classrooms.
Um we don't feel comfortable making a recommendation at this at this mark with kind of the fluctuation of prices. Um a couple of the quotes for all the Clear Touch panels came in around $42,000, and then the desktop computers right now had them um around $1,000 a piece. So, 20 of those is is around $20,000. We have about $14,000 left in refund grants to go towards this, but then we got a quote in today for the Clear Touch panels with a tariff, and they were like $61,000. So, we're going to [clears throat] work on this trying to get this narrowed down a little bit more, but it's not easy at this point. So, we don't have a recommendation. Our hope is at the May meeting we have a recommendation to move forward with the technology, but just want to kind of give you the ins and outs of what that looks like at this point.
