Yeah. They're lighting. That was just the other comment or question. Um I guess Sorry to backtrack a little bit. I did forget to mention that we also approved a grant um for a cooler a flower cooler for the um FFA. Uh and we approved that as a full grant, so we'll be purchasing that cooler so the FFA and ag classes can can do more expand their horticulture class. Do we have enough electricity out there for that? I don't know. I'm just trying to get the electricity for the CNC and the kiln out there. Not that it was that big of a deal. It just seemed like we couldn't get the power out there, so. So, there are exciting cool things happening. Um any other questions, comments, open agenda items. Okay, items for next month's agenda. Uh so, next month next month's agenda, we will have the certified list, the classified list, and also the supplemental list.
So, I actually think that that tool and um utilize the utilization of that tool going to inform so much of our work. Um I remember being um you know, like a department chair and having to like almost like hand grab data out of like our gradebooks and things like that and this will make it a lot easier both at the building level to set goals, the team level, and even the individual teacher level. So, um if you didn't get a chance to look at that presentation, it's a pretty good synthesis. A way to be proactive as well. Yes. So. I think what aligns to to that and is just um timely conversation from um our student board members or student ambassadors. Um just as we talk about student agency and how students are proactively um discussing amongst one another and courageously discussing with staff because I know that that can be a bit intimidating as well um regarding their needs.
Is there any discussion? I guess I would just add that anytime that we're able to rely on the expertise of the teachers, the professionals in the room that know their craft. Um, in particular bonus that this one doesn't, we're not paying um the the textbook company or the all the curricular materials are going directly to the students and and we're using their skill the teacher skills. Um, always got to vote. Good >> point. All right. All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is the approval of high school family and consumer science department curricular materials. This is um for three classes and this is part these are part of the CTE. So this is a pathway for students um and majority of these are for pathway for students um in who want who pathway about being educators or teachers. um in this area.
Um we'll give you an update on where we're at with those capital items that we've talked about. Um the ball's really moving on the modular unit with the groundwork. It's going to It's going to move pretty fairly quickly here and then it's going to be kind of a lag time because we got the groundwork being done, the foundation being done, and then we're just going to kind of be sitting and waiting for all the pieces to get here in mid-June to get those put together ready to go, so. Um We'll have the capital item list updated for you guys as well um and negotiations information as well. And then adding to this, I'm also going to We're also going to reach out to Mr. uh Mr. Lloyd and see if he can be here to visit with you guys as well. Um Dan, sorry as I sit here and think about what I said and do we actually need approval?
And so, when we think about EduClimber and when we think about student voice, how do we really accelerate that beyond just admiring a problem or admiring like the data or admiring the feedback. Um as this is our first year on the board and we just completed our first year. I want to say this is our first year anniversary just about in terms of almost. Are we okay? But I say all that to say just coming to board members even coming to board meetings even prior to becoming a board member, I'd always hear like students talk about like some of the needs that they've had and they're pretty consistent with what our board members um our student ambassadors are reporting out. And so, what I'd love to see as we move forward, what are just some actions that we're going to put in place, what are some non-negotiables in terms of um the student experience.
So the classes I mean with the exception of this that there's fundamentals of human services and then um that's one of the curricular and open sources. The next class is early childhood education and early education guidance and that um Texas antibbias education for young children and ourselves and the other class is early childhood education and early education guide. Oh, I mean sorry both of these classes go together for both these textbook and the other one is developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood. So those are books to continue the pathway for students at our high school. We've already started this work. Board members, I will entertain a motion. >> Move that the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and open sources for fundamentals of human services course developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood programs and antibbias education for young children and ourselves. Textbook adoptions for the family and consumer science courses as presented.
Do we need board approval? Do we need need a motion to purchase the um digital screen and get that installed? We need at least board approval. Right. To accept the donation. >> accept it. >> Yeah, we have the Yeah, accept it. Cuz we'll do a motion to accept the donation for the football lights, so it's the same thing. Okay. So, we might as well put that on the that special meeting. Meant to. For the special meeting. Okay, yes. Uh-huh. So, on the special meeting on >> We I have discussion and possible action on football lights along with possible donation or something like that. Mhm. Can we make them two different agenda items? Uh-huh, sure. Yeah, we'll Yeah. item if possible. Gym Screen donation. Digital screen. Digital screen donation. Mhm. Okay. Digital screen. Well, we just did it as gym upgrades because with the the backboards and stuff, too.
They called out um just feeling um welcomed within the classrooms and something as small as being sure that I'm being greeted in the morning. And so, what's our blueprint for learning when we think about students? And I think that as we look toward next year in planning, um definitely something that we'd love to charge ourselves with like next steps in terms of just what some non- some non-negotiables are. Um I also just raised the question relative to EduClimber um potentially um accelerating that work too and getting data in front of teachers prior to school year 28. I think right now we're on track um just with this tool utilizing it um school year 28 for our teachers and I think our teachers would definitely like to have access prior to school year 28 when we talk about triangulating data and just navigating the data. And so, those are just some of my thoughts from um from the committee meeting.
Second >> motion by Mike, seconded by Josh. Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. Next up is approval of high school English language arts department curricular materials. >> So um in this one you'll see some changes because of the new diploma and some new opportunities we have. And so in the past um Um some of our kids would take like English nine, English 10, English 11, you know, honors or some other options that way. But in the senior year, we're going to give some flexibility where kids have some options. And so one um one course is of those options are technical communication. And these are you would take technical like these are semester classes. Um so there's technical communication again that's one that we're going with at C um curriculum and open sources. So where our our teachers have curated this one using different resources.
Mhm. I'm thinking of the 60,000. Sorry. Yeah, that would be football lights. Uh-huh. Right, but She's talking about the the the >> I know, but I wondered if we need both of those at this meeting. Since you're talking football lights, if you decide to make a motion to purchase the football lights, you're doing that based on the contingency that you guys are going to donate 60,000 to the football lights. So, we need to have a motion to approve that donation. And then we'll have a separate motion to approve to accept the donation for gym upgrades. Mhm. We can do that. That'll be We can do that. Yeah. Before he releases that agenda, you can still add to it. And once it's released, you cannot change it. So, >> Yeah. We'll We'll We'll talk about that. Do the flower cooler at the same time, too? Yeah, we can.
>> captures um student behavior data. Um so, principals even as soon as next year will start being able to kind of see what's going on in classroom better. Um and then you know, taking some of that data and discussing it with teachers. Hopefully we can get it to the into the teachers' hands a little bit sooner than 20 than the following year, but we'll see. We know we can't do everything all at once. Is there a movie like that? Everything everywhere all at once. Yes. Yes. But yeah, I it it No, I mean it's something it's a it's a it's a very good tool. Um and it surprised me that we didn't have it, but then I also hear that it's um not necessarily the norm um in school districts. So. You had seem like you had some want to say something. No? Okay. All right.
Um the other one a new course is genres of literature and that is the novel the glass castle. Um the next one is indie literature and that is um all good people here which is an author right from Indiana um to go with Indiana literature. And the other one is VU speech. Um we're just we were with IU speech and we're moving back to VU speech and that's the art of public speaking and we see we have some kids very gifted in that area that could probably teach that course. Um that was that were here tonight. So we are bringing those um those resources to you this evening. >> I move the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and open sources for the technical communication course. the curriculum and the glass castle for the genres of literature course, the curriculum and all good people here for the Indie Inc.
What is it? The flower cooler for the Ag class. Just so that way it's not holding up the Mhm. reinforcement for the FFA. Are you guys going to have the estimated cost for all that stuff by then? To know what you're going to donate? Okay. So, that's stuff, yeah? Mhm. Okay. So, we can put that on the special meeting, as well. Mhm. Unless we want to just generalize of the donations, approve donations from Red Tech Reinforcement, and then we just list We could do that. That'd probably be the easiest way. Cuz then we could put gym upgrades and list the gym upgrades and the dollar amount. And then we could do the flower cooler and then the dollar amount would be there, too. Yeah, we can do that. The one I Yeah, so I don't know about the iPhone for sure, but we've already got kind of an an estimate on the digital screen.
Anything else? No? 9.3 board member comments. You can start. Uh I had the I did my last uh school connections for the year um uh at Angle program today and uh it was a really good meeting. Um a lot of uh conversations back and forth on how we can work to improve things. Um I really appreciate those meetings because I think at each different at each school it was a completely different vibe for lack of a better word. Um but I think that work is very important to be talking specifically to the teachers, the people on the ground um instead of just always talking to Dr. Delgado and the district admins. Um I would like to also say that uh the a lot of the kids that you saw here tonight from Special Olympics, they're competing on Sunday uh at the regional uh soccer tournament.
Indiana literature course and the art of public speaking as a curriculum resource for the Vincens University dual credit literature course as presented. >> Second motion by Kim, seconded by Jennifer.
Yeah, well, probably you guys have to meet. Yeah. And that's why we wanted bring it up today, too. So, that meeting's on the 22nd. Okay. >> [snorts] >> 6:00. Will we be able to talk on the 21st to make sure Well, we're going to have to get that out before then. That's I would try to get the agenda out Monday. The 20th. Or earlier. Okay, no way. I mean, maybe even on Friday. Well, we're This is going to be part of the agenda This is going to be part of the board minutes for this meeting. So, that's basically a notification. But yeah, you're right. Last Friday. So, that'd be this Friday. Oh, no. So, we might need to get together and have a conversation on all those items listed, so once we send that out, that they're on there. Like gym upgrades, what specific gym upgrades, so just shoot me a time that you would be available to discuss those items, so we can make sure we get the agenda right.
And that'll determine if they will go on to state in June. So, let's go Wildcats and uh yeah, that's that's what I have. So. Great. I've expressed my thoughts. Nothing else. Okay. Yeah, um I'd like to kind of bring something up came up a little bit earlier. Um during public comment it came up that the importance of public perception and I think as board members we're incredibly aware of that um as elected officials and we kind of operate in this weird space of not being involved in the daily goings-on of the district, but also understanding that that we are to be representing the public. Um and while I think public perception is really important, Um I think at the same time it's also equally important that um that we remain grounded in accurate information and fact. Um and you know, when things come up like discussions of closing buildings and $5 million projects and whatnot, um those are not things that those are not conversations that I've participated in on this board, I can say.
Is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion passes 5-0. And then the last item, approval of high school, sorry, last item on this portion of our agenda. Uh approval of high school mathematics curricular materials. >> Say, okay, we're at the last one. Um high school math. And if you remember when we uh a couple months ago when we looked at courses and approving new courses, the state has just adjusted some courses. Um and so these are some of those courses. So modern math and you'll see the book excursions and modern math very exciting and then prime math and you'll see that put that book we were already using for the other class that prime math is replacing. Um so just bringing those um to you for adoption. >> I move the board of school trustees approve the curriculum and excursions in modern math for advanced math.
Okay. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, that's right. Uh making sure we dot our I's and cross our T's. Okay. I would entertain motion to adjourn. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Seconded by Josh. All those in favor say aye. Aye.
Um so I just want to to mention the importance of taking time to seek out facts, um so that when we do engage in dialogue, whether it's in the context of a board meeting or in communications um via phone or email, that it can remain constructive and solution-focused. Um if you are ever looking for facts, uh we do try to maintain um you know, as up-to-date information as possible on the district websites. They know all the individual schools have their websites as well. Um additionally, there's the BOE email that's just BOE, I believe, at uh sd308.org, which goes to all of us, um and our individual emails. So, um you know, while while we welcome the opportunity to engage with everybody and we um really actually thrive when we get to engage with everybody because of the nature of our roles, I do just want to remind people um to seek out accurate information um so that those conversations can yield uh can be more productive.
