Um, we can put a lot of different things in in in reference to regulation or um reprimand or or or or consequences for actions. But, I also think we need to be mindful of lifting up our our students in general and teaching them about what they're going to experience out there. So, and and we um obviously everyone our video systems are whatever it may be. So, I think there's an opportunity to continue the conversation. Um but, I just wanted to make sure that I was expressed. Mr. Diaz. You brought up a good point, President Bodie. Um for clarity for our constituents, you mentioned the appropriate way to do it. For example, it is completely okay for a student to go into one of these engines and say, "How do I solve this problem?" and get an idea and get assistance in a different way to solve it.
What is not okay to do is for example, go to as one of these engines doing us an assessment and copy the answers is straight into the assessment claiming as their own learning. That's not That's not what we're trying to again teach through this policy under honesty and integrity. So, those are two good examples for the community. >> You know what I thought about when we thought when you brought it to me about that? And this was something that we had a conversation about in general. And this is true across all all industries. The same type of conversation was brought up about calculators. So, utilizing a calculator to solve a problem, of course you're going to get the answer. But, we got we somehow found a way to not only use that calculator, but to use it as a tool to be able to teach better, stronger, and and give an actual understanding to what was I don't know presented.
So, I think there's always opportunity for us to look at things as either we're going to fight against it or we're going to learn to live with it the same we learn to live with the which are going to be the end of civilization, which obviously they kind of are. But, calculators and those types of things like resources are tools. I count those types of things like search engines, whatever it may be in that same type of realm. You could either use it in a very negative way or you could use it in a very bad way. I prefer for us to be teaching in a good way. So, just my comments. I don't know if you have any other comments, but I I I don't have any issues with this. I just It just sparked a different kind of conversation. And it's it's sparking the conversation across a lot of industries, not just ours.
But, I think we need to be looking a little bit more brighter on this on the subject, especially when it comes to preparing our students, which is plastered all over our mission statement and vision statements. So, Miss Deion. So, with this student conduct document, how is that going to be presented to them like in class? Like Does that mean After going through the process, if the board adopts the policy, it needs to there's a couple of follow-up steps. One of them is to be added to the parents handbook. The other one, yes, it needs to be marketed and promoted and and and provide the teachers with the clarity and the students with the clarity of how we're going to be moving forward, including what may be the consequences if you use negatively, but how we can promote it if we use it positively. Because I agree with the President Bondia about the you know, the ethical ways that you could use it and kind of reinforcing that to the students and the families that there is a right way and a wrong way to use it and kind of just putting it a little bit more detailed of what that looks like as far as getting clarification or getting some kind of ideas about how to go about their class work that they may be struggling with.
So, I was just curious. Thank you. Okay. Um I guess that would definitely be a recommendation cuz there there is more so emphasis in this to be to this to be subject to disciplinary action. But at what regard apply? Um anything and say that was AI is plagiarism. How are we going to gauge based on based on the teachers capability or in opportunity to be able to to um gauge that or or anybody. Uh and I would hate for us to fall into a situation where that's used negatively or inappropriately or not fair or in a way that that would seem unfair. Um But that's just how I would look at it as a person looking at this from the perspective of a parent of students and of students who are actively probably using uh artificial intelligence every day. I mean, you could open a web page and it automatically is putting you right in that in that realm of a generator that tells you your algorithm or what you were looking at or what you were talking about and actively put it in front of you and say, "Hey, here's here's the answer to what you were talking about." So, again, just my [snorts] mean thoughtful words to help generate more thinking um and I want to see us put something together that actually may be really beneficial to to our our our stakeholders that can say, "Okay, this is where we need you to be and here's here's where we where we would like to be as an entire school district." Ms.
Stevens? I think you bring up some really good points, but also just thinking about the staff and getting people trained on that because even like myself, like I'm trying to learn a lot of this stuff on my own and older and then you have younger people who are coming in and yes, they're going to know how to do this and our kids are definitely going to need this when they're going to out and finding jobs, going to college, doing activities and what ethical ways can you show them how to do that? Because I can tell you like right now there's a lot of college students who are encouraged to use it and utilize it, but they are they are also taught like the ethical ways of not submitting plagiarism. So, I think those are things to consider moving forward is like training our staff. Okay.
First reading board members again and ends and community. I think that if there's opportunity, of course, well, some board members have specifically submit those to Mr. Diaz and Mrs. Zabala, but hopefully we're taking note of this evening's discussion. Number 17 is a governing board member request, Mr. Diaz. President Monreal, uh President Monreal and members of the board, this is a follow-up. There was a a request and it was shared with all board members and for clarity purposes it and in transparency purposes, it was added to the agenda. This this slides it answer the request and and some comparison. Jennifer earlier doing her presentation went over these slides as well, but for transparency purposes, we are sharing it with the rest of the board that this was also board request. >> Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Before we go into executive session, I know we're probably going to be in there for a while.
If anybody can be excused, then by all means, but unless they have an action item to address. That is correct Mr. Moody and thank you for for your sensitivity on this matter. Unless they have a an action item, we won't need them to stay behind. Other than that, they need to make sure they get some dinner and drive safely home. Yes. Um, a motion to vote to convene executive session per Arizona revised status statutes. Sorry. 15-843. Is there a second? Second. Second by Ms. Sylvia Hendricks. All those in favor of the motion. With that, we'll move on letter H to action items. Governing board members, with your um without objection, uh I would like to propose approval in one action items one, two, and three with amendments. Um specifically to Sorry. Yeldon. Yes. Which expulsion is that one? I mean, which enrollment? Is it the first or second? It is the second one. Um it is for Mr. Yeldon. Uh the recommendation or the amendment will be uh for '25-'26 school year. Okay. Thank you for the clarification. Uh board members, if there's no objection, I motion to approve items one, two, and three as presented or sorry, with amendments to the uh re-enrollment for Mr. Yeldon. Is there a second?
Second. Second by Ms. Ann Marie Stevens. Do you have questions, do you feel? I'm good. You're good? Okay. Motion All those in favor of the motion, Juan Buen Día. Most of all. Ann Marie Stevens. Most of all. Deonna Leonard. Most of Motion carries. >> [laughter] >> Thank you. Motion carries. All right. You you going to vote from there? >> [laughter] >> All right, number four this evening is discussion and possible approval of an additional FTE for PK kindergarten ESS teacher at the Indian Oasis Primary School 2026-2027. Mr. Diaz. President Amadi and members of the board, I need to give a little bit of background regarding number four and number five. We currently have one FTE, one employee that is currently providing both services and we have the services include the traveling services, but also the services in-house. The The good problem that we have is that the number of students has increased and the need to separate the traveling services versus the services that are need to be done in school and to do that we needed to split a job description into two two into two different ones.
The recommendation is to approve the new one, which will be discussion of a possible approval of an additional FTE for PK kindergarten as a ESS teacher at the Indian Oasis Primary School for 2026-2027. And then the discussion for a possible approval for the new job description, which will be the PK itinerant ESS teacher position. So, these both they they used to be part of only one position based on the increase of services needed, we are splitting them [clears throat] up and looking for your approval. Having said that, for number four, I'm recommending that the Buckeye Union High School District Governing Board to approve an additional FTE for PK kindergarten ESS teacher at the Indian Oasis Primary School as presented. Ms. Stevens. I was just going to make a motion. Okay. Great. >> [laughter] >> Go ahead. Motion to approve. Motion by Ms. AnnMarie Stevens. Is there a second?
Ms. Amadi Archer. I'll second. Mr. Zabala? Ooh. We're just approving four or you For four hands. This is four. All those in favor of the motion, Juan Bonilla? Mhm. Sylvia Hendricks? For. Annemarie Stevens? Support. Dion Leonard? >> For. Motion carries. Okay. Number five. Uh Mr. Diaz just kind of gave us the background on both four and five.
Are there any questions? If not, I'll motion to approve the new job description for pre-K Second. Me. I had Hendricks. pre-K ESS teacher position for the 2026-2027 school year. Um Ms. Sylvia and Ms. Stevens. Good night, y'all. Good night. All those in favor of the Mr. Zabala. Juan Bonilla? Annemarie Stevens? Support. [snorts] Sylvia Hendricks? Support. Dion Leonard? Motion carries. >> So sorry. All right. Number six, discussion and possible approval of the Barbara Jordan Elementary School District benefits renewal from Cbiz. Mr. Diaz? Presentation earlier, uh Ms. Jennifer, our representative, she gave a presentation uh based on the uh proposal for renewal. Um and and and based on the presentation, now we're moving on to the next step, which is recommending the Barbara Jordan Elementary School District governing board to approve the Cbiz renewal as presented.
Are there any questions? No. Make the motion. Motion by Ms. Sylvia Hendricks. Second by Ms. Dion Leonard. Favor of the motion, Juan Bonilla? No. Uh Sylvia Hendricks? Support. Annemarie Stevens? Support. Dion Leonard? Motion carries. >> carries. Number seven is discussion and possible approval of a letter for of support for the Freeport McMoran grant. Mr. Diaz? Presentation earlier, members of the board, um a little bit of background. Um, this is also one of the efforts to begin uh growing our own. Um, I uh under the um um leadership of our President Mundia and the connections um with uh Freeport-McMoRan, um there was a discussion in in how to uh how to seek funding for different projects. This particular project I'm super excited about. Um, the idea for these project um is to create internships and collaborate with TOCC and um the UofA um in in for any of um alumni uh to provide them with opportunities to learn real-life skills, but also introduce them into teaching.
The goal is to um seek $100,000 a year for 5 years um and use that money to maximize based on how many students might be willing and enable um based on their uh school um workload um to be able to serve as a teacher intern uh duty aid um in in in in in be able um to participate in professional development to encourage them to become teachers um as well as gain some experience. This will require some collaboration with the universities because of what the the proposal that I will require uh some adjustments for um for this to be able to work. I'm looking for students who would take all of the classes Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays so they can do the internships Tuesdays and Thursdays or vice versa that they can go to school Tuesdays and Thursdays so they can do the internships um Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Students who take all of the classes virtually, they will have the opportunity also to work based on the schedule and avail- Um part of the uh the uh the packet that I have included um let me see. It if you can see um in one of the screens um it it is specified um not only a mission but also the mission for Freeport, but it also includes what are the goals, what is the objective, what are going to be the highlights, um who is eligible, um what are the duties for these interns, what is um um I will also proposing a coordinator through a stipend uh to help us recruit um um alumni, um present prospective candidates to the governing board, provide orientation for the students, and support during the school year for students, um make sure they also provide um real-life developmental uh feedback as part of our evaluation uh or make non-renewal as part of the performance.
Um provide uh support with monthly uh professional development and needs for the students to to grow their skills, and report to the BUSD board in free uh Freeport regarding the impact um or lessons learned through this project, and continue to ask for additional uh funding year after year. Uh the packet also includes not only a timeline, but it also includes a job description for this position. It also includes the evaluation that will be used for these students. Um it also includes uh the pay scale that we using um for BUSD, the number of days available to work when the students are here. It also has uh the roles and responsibility for the coordinator that will be responsible for these interns and the supervision of these interns. It provides the expectations um uh that needs to be submitted before the coordinator is eligible to receive the stipend and have a portfolio that all of these documents have been completed effectively.
And a list of the next steps that I I I need to continue to be able to seek the funding. Part of the packet, I would like a letter of support so I can submit my application. The UofA has agreed to provide a letter of support. We also reached to the chairman's office so they can give us and also I have sent this proposal to a member of TOCC for review and provide me feedback before I meet with the OCC. Questions? No questions. I just want to make sure 100% reviewed. Love. Feel good. My biggest thing is just to make sure that the buy-in is there specifically from partners like TOCC. And I only say that and I don't mean to disparage any any partnerships we have. But I just want to make sure that this is This is a really awesome program and opportunity.
Um I want to see it be successful but we need to have those. And so my thought is not only making sure that that they're aware but that oversight is aware as in the nation and that they're very understanding that hey look we went after this this is what it's intended to do. Um Just cuz you know Uh I want to see it be but I also want it to make sure I want to make sure that it is expressly understood that that these internships are are part-time they're You know I I I understand that but I think a lot of people don't realize that that's something that would more than likely not be paid if it weren't for this type of funding being available. So, I'm excited. That was just my only thing I wanted to say is it is beautiful um that you've put together, you've met with.
Um I just want there to be uh I think an across-the-board like understanding like, "Hey, this is an opportunity." And BUSD is is charging forward, but we also need your support. So, that That's just what I wanted to say. This is also in addition to um the fact that I have been able to speak with and talk to the uh the idea of when we talked about building your own And that what we're starting to see at our peace even at a younger age And you hear it like when they do the student of the month or graduation that their goal is to become because they see the impact that our teachers have on them. And so, I think this is just a element that we look forward to. This is what we should do with that. All right. So, I say it again. >> to say it again?
