This does not mean I'm choosing when to be gender non-conforming. I'm simply choosing who gets to know this personal information about me. The teachers whom I have asked to use a different name and pronouns than would be assumed from my transcripts are those who I have who have shown they are willing to make an effort to support students regardless of identity. To me, this makes them worthy of my trust. When enforcing teachers to out students, this trust is being violated. Without trust, queer teens cannot feel the support they may be lacking at home. The National Library of Medicine cites a 44% increase in suicide rates of teenagers without at least one accepting adult in their lives. In taking away a student's ability to trust teachers, you are taking away acceptance from the students who need it most. Ultimately, the energy that would be used to endanger the already at risk teens could instead be used to ensure their safety.
However, the reality is it's only going to take I think they said two weeks and like like once they get in two weeks. So, um there's definitely time between June and July where it won't impact uh any of the sports. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> And it will not impact graduation because when I get reminded of that every every year graduation rolls up from 2014 from my son that his class was the only one moved to from the field. So, >> um that was time that that was when the turf was done. So, 2014. So, it's already a couple years past its um >> 12 years old. >> And um I was worried about that because just like you know, you get anything under warranty, if there's an accident and it's not in warranty or you know, you've gone past your prime on something, that's another liability to the district.

But the energy they have right now is what you hear in the morning with the three minutes Monday and Friday or Friday and December. So, they're truly leaders on our campus. Thank you. If you have any more questions, you can That's what you want to say every single time, right? I mean students on one bus. I send them out of town. And you have to accept risk in doing that. Whether it's sending your kids to Disneyland or sending your kids to Six Flags, you're accepting a risk. Or a trip to town on a on a basketball game, right? So, I just want to make sure that the of the trip just provide the the risk. No, I agree, but Well, that's it. And so, that brought my my business way. Although I don't trust Daniel completely, I do. And I can't believe they're going to have violence, but I just always I always have my worries.
Um we got that signed and ready for um work as soon as those kits come in. Piney will be doing that for us. um and appreciate they have actually a local guy who is a a parent here in the district and so we're going to be able to do that work and um so that's preventative maintenance um on our uh two hot water boilers um in both buildings and then also the two domestic water boilers. So the the drinking water if you will um and then the boilers that actually do the heat part of it. So um good time to kind of get it done. We're not needing them. They can do the shut offs and you know whatever. So, um, project closeouts, we're we're kind of wrapping up that last few things on the new parking lot. They they got the second coat of grout put on all the light pole bases.
And also has maintained those connections with our community, with our families, and and with our students. So, I couldn't be more pleased that uh, she will become the next superintendent here at Lake Station schools. We're all in good hands. I do have a few more announcements that I'd like to make this evening. First of all, we want to congratulate and say good luck to the following Edison Junior Senior High School students. Kaylin Springer who was chosen for publication in The Beautiful Truth for the article The Power of Expression. We also want to say congratulations and good luck to Isis Scales was chosen for publication in Unsolved Hidden Secrets and Shay Coffee was selected as our first place entrant in the Young Authors Contest. And Isis, by the way, was chosen as honorable mention. The selection was made by a panel of teachers, staff members, and administrators.
It also includes an increase for contracted services and an increase for utilities. Um and uh both of those are are necessary. Utilities obviously there's uh there's little we can we can do about that in a short term on a short-term basis. Um and then contracted services. Uh we really want to move uh ahead towards you know identifying those areas where preventive maintenance um would be very very obviously preventive maintenance would be beneficial for everything but um unless you have like unlimited amounts of money um you have to target uh where where you're going to do um a lot of those PM preventive maintenance activities um and so the increase in contracted services is to help for that as Okay. >> Do you have a question on that? >> I just had a question about that. I know that Yolanda had raised some questions um about that line item as well.
Here comes Michael Schriber. First man reaches against McFadden. Here comes the first pitch. And it hits him. Off-speed Schriber gets plunked. Back-to-back base runners for the Clockers. And Ian McCoy will bat. Here comes the first pitch to Ian. He'll take a ball. So, one and oh to McCoy. Walked his first time up. Throw back to second. He is out. Bradica is picked off at second base. The lead-off double was erased. Both teams had a runner picked off. So, now one away. A 1-0 count to McCoy. That's in the dirt. It bounces. Schriber's on his way to second. He's going to be in there. So, he'll take the place of Bradica. A 2-0 count to McCoy. So, base running blunder gives the Panthers their first out of the inning. That's a off-speed dropped in there. Two balls and one strike. Two and one. It's a ground ball and it's going to be foul past first base.
I have heard many parents voice their concerns about his intentions as coach during this time. I did not fully understand those concerns until I witnessed myself while coaching alongside them. I can say with full full confidence that Justin Bixby is not someone the community wants in a leadership role, no matter what that role may be. He has proven this time and time again as he has been given the benefit of the doubt far too many times this last 202526 volleyball season faced a lot of adversity due to toxicity he brought as he cannot be a part of his own program his daughter is involved in speaking as a coach's daughter myself I can tell you it is not an easy position to be put in and it never should be in the big case it has quite the opposite effect he shows extreme favoritism towards his own daughter this past season there were players who played the same position as his daughter who came to me in tears because of comments he makes to them during practice.
I will open that public hearing. Seeing no comments I will close it. All right. So next up is 15A. Um we have a CSBA region 20 delegate assembly runoff election. It is recommended the board select one representative for the California School Board Association Delegate Assembly for Region 20, Santa Clara County. In this runoff, you have two candidate choices. Elizabeth Holidayiday from Campbell Union High School District or Jod Mirhead from Santa Clara Unified. >> Thank you. So, I'm looking to the board if they have any preference for one of the candidates listed. seems to be looking at me. >> Um, yes, >> you can press your >> We have two. >> Sorry, we have two candidates here. That's Elizabeth from Campbell Union and Jod. As I mentioned before, I have known Jod for a number of years and um and she is the incumbent. And I received something today from Elizabeth and that was for us to to reconsider her as a as a candidate and um and to elect her.
Trans students are not trans because they were convinced to be. Instead, they are trans in spite of attempts at convincing them they are wrong. The cards are already stacked against us. Why push the deck further? Thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Is there anyone else from the floor that Okay. >> Hey. I'm Casey Hanson. I'm actually a PV English teacher across the street. I just want to say I'm just I'm so proud of these kids for being here and just like speaking their peace. Um also proud GSA advisor and English teacher of all of them. And I think you have two more coming up to to talk. Um and I think I'm speaking on what they are they are too. And I think rather than sharing statistics that show how detrimental it is to out someone who's not ready to be out. Um I just kind of wanted to share my experience with these wonderful humans.
So, it needs to be done. Has to be done. Any other questions? Okay, moving on. We're going to go to public uh comments. Um, I'm going to read the statement first and then we'll go to uh virtual. Um, this portion of the meeting is open to the residents and non-residents of Clifton for the purpose of addressing any subject matter pertinent to andor directly related to the operations of the Clifton Public School District. Residents and non-residents are required to sign the register provided for this purch purpose and state their name, address, and subject matter. Comments are limited to five minutes per person. Issues raised by members of the public may or may not be responded to by the board. All comments will be considered and a response will be forthcoming if and when appropriate. I'm going to call it either vote no, but I just wanted to express my my concern of sending the same kids away. That you know, If we have to go Sure. All in favor, say "Aye." Aye. Motion carries 3 to 0. In favor, say "Aye." Aye. The next item up under business is the approval of the 2026-2027 school board meeting and academic calendar. 2026-2027 Mr. President, members of the board, the administration is recommending changes to the 2026-2027 academic calendar. In the current 2026 board meeting dates, the LBT CPD has been changed from 9:30 to 9:45 to 10:00 to that is available via our textbook the conference. All virtual board down at 10:12 to 10:30 2026 board meeting has been changed from 10:00 to 10:50 to 10:55 to 10:07 2026. Through the attached 2026-2027 2027 academic calendar and 2026 board meeting dates is recommended, sir. Okay.
Um, if you'll if you happen to drive out there and look, there were five more trees planted. Um, the county um there was some, I guess, difference of opinion. Um, we originally they wanted all trees in the islands. Um, I said all the trees are just going to bust the concrete and asphalt. Can we not do that? we just put small bushes. Um, and so we we uh we did um and they're like, "Yeah, but you you didn't do all the trees." And we're like, "Well, we went like three bushes to one tree." And they're like, "Yeah, you got to put them in there." So, um, the the contractor was great. They covered it. They did not charge us additional for the five additional trees. Um, so those are those are out there. Um, and they match the other trees along the uh the south end of the parking lot.
And these ladies will represent Edison Junior Senior High School at the Young Authors Conference at Indiana University April 18th, which would be this Saturday. So, that's coming up. We wish them all the best. Uh the Eagles Education Foundation is having a fundraiser this Saturday, April 18th, at the VFW here in Lake Station from 4:00 to 5:30. And this fundraiser is themed of hummingbirds. So, we have worked with Gail Rockwell, who is the artist. She will be coming to that event to kind of help us as we paint hummingbirds that she has sketched out and drawn on canvas. So, all the materials, all the supplies that you need are going to be provided for you. We want you to come, paint your hummingbird, take it home with you, uh and that is a fundraiser for the foundation. That is a $25 fee, that's the contribution to the Eagles Foundation, but you also get to take home your masterpiece when you're finished with that.
Um so it is one of the positions is that existing in the department already and wouldn't that salary follow that person? >> Um two uh so two positions are already in facilities. And so did those salaries would follow them so that there would be a um someplace else there is >> um >> you would see a decrease decrease. >> Yeah. >> So so the public build that line item already existed. We already had a public buildings department. Um, this essentially expands it to include public buildings and grounds or public buildings and property. >> I don't think that answers my question. Yeah, the the question is like in in in this total you said there two existing employees and so are those line items included in that number and are is there you know if they're coming over to this then are is there going to be like a deduction from somewhere else or you're saying that this is this is kind of this is existing within this line item for those two employees and there's no change.
And it's two and two. Two-two, that's a pop-up in the shallow right. Now coming back to the infield. Baker makes the catch. So, number two. After the first two reach, the pickoff and then the pop-up. Quickly there's two away with Schriber on second. And Jake Lemay at the plate. Lemay is over one. McFadden's first pitch. It's a line drive into left field, a base hit. Schriber gets the wave. He's on his way to the plate. Here's the throw. It bounces and he is in. An RBI single for Jake Lemay and the Clockers are on the board. A good piece of two-out hitting. And it's two to one. The Clockers were on the verge of squandering an opportunity. But they quickly strike against McFadden. As Jared Grumbum takes ball one. Jared's over one so far. Lemay has had a good start to the season for the Clockers.
All while still being the school's principal, he chooses to act unprofessionally, showing little concern because he knows he can get away with it without repercussions. While volunteering this last season, I witnessed Justin disrespecting the head coach and even myself during our first preseason tournament. It was it was our turn to warm up. So, I grabbed our ball cart and started tossing the balls into the warm-up. Justin came over, pulled the ball cart away from me, and said, "Don't think you'll be taking my job this season." I honestly was shocked that he said that out loud. Situations like that shows Justin lacks self-control and professionalism. We have already seen how he handles leadership roles. What makes us think this will be any different? Are we not going to question his motives for wanting to take over the program? Is it a coincidence that this is happening during his own daughter's senior year after he complained about her playing time all season?
and she seemed to be very very um she's such a strong advocate for school funding and she wants to once once she gets elected, this is what she told me and I'm just um relaying the message to all of my board members here that she wants to really be open to us and to always communicate with us. and her her um strong advocate as I mentioned is truly the school funding which the superintendent is going to Sacramento to advocate for all of us. So for me personally even though I have known Jod for a for many years and she has been on it for quite a number of years I would like to see if Elizabeth Holidayiday would be a good a good uh candidate for us. and it's up to you. >> Interesting. >> So, I move if that's a possibility. >> That's a good perspective.
Um so I I am the pride club advisor and every single week I get these kids that show up and they're just so authentically themselves and they're so unafraid to be themselves cuz we've created this space of well, non-judgement. And we really do pride ourselves on really trying to like build up their confidence rather than tear it down. However, I still have these students in club that have asked not to be in the yearbook photo. Not because they don't like the club, but because they are terrified of their parents either finding out that they go by a different name or that they're in the club in general. Um I have students where I'm like, "Dude, you did so good today. Can I Can I call home?" And they're like, "Yes. Can you please use my dead name so I actually don't get kicked out of that childhood home?" And I'm just thinking about them, you know, and they walk through these front doors when they get back from school and they have to put on this facade to make other people feel safe.

Um, Mr. Foul, do we have anybody online? >> We do not this evening. >> Motion to close remote. >> Motion Commissioner Brunak. Second by Commissioner Paris. Do I need a roll call? >> No. Okay. All in favor? Yes. Right. Uh, public comment. Anybody in the public would like to get up and speak?
