>> Thank you gymnastics. Yeah. Um, and he got sick at state basically. Um so so to do that um he in the 200 freestyle he broke our school record which was 36 years old I believe. Um and in the 500 freestyle he broke our record which is only one year old. Doesn't sound as impressive except he broke that one last year. So yeah. So it was a great season. Um super excited to see where it takes us next year. Um and yeah, he's a joy to coach. Um, I mean, Sueda wraps it up pretty good, but I had an amazing season. I was undefeated the entire season throughout. So, through all our dual meets, invites, and conference. I didn't lose a race. But that wasn't just because of me. >> Coach, come over here. >> Swim's an individual sport, but I didn't do it myself.
Uh as a reminder, our food service program uh it should not be you shouldn't be profiting off the the food service program. Uh so all HP breaking even uh essentially. Uh if you are uh running a surplus, um then generally student lunch prices will stay the same. If you're falling behind, the student lunch prices uh are raised. If I had to guess, I there's a good chance that lunch prices will remain the same for 1 more year and then most likely need to be raised next year. Okay. Hearing no other questions. Uh last item for discussion tonight is the discussion to change the meeting dates for 2026-2027, Dr. Thomas. Thank you. So, um I just want to start by saying when the committee of the whole meetings happen and the board meetings happen is 100% at the discretion of the board based on your schedules and when you're available.
Any questions, comments, or discussion? Roll call, please. Hurst? Yes. Mervica? Yes. Pappas? Yes. Ward? Yes. Dogan? Yes. Gorman? Yes. Wasson? Yes. Motion passes. I need a motion and a second to discuss and approve the consolidated district plan. Can I have everybody? We brought Grady in here to I put a tie on for you. >> [laughter] >> Um So, annually we submit a consolidated district plan as collaborative effort with all departments, administrators. We take feedback from um like community advisement team in all different areas that helps drive our goals and what we're doing. It really outlines what is the curricular changes or how we're progress monitoring students, and some of the um how we're going to spend some of our grant dollars. This is something that we have to submit annually, and it requires board approval. And so, in your board packet was a draft copy that highlights any of the changes.
Like we're able to pop in and out if we need to for something but You know you guys do you find in your observations or or just casual daily life at school that the teachers relate to each other differently that they're talking about different things because you know the data meetings it doesn't end there. It just starts. So do you find that? Absolutely. That's the largest thing from the beginning of the year till now just the trust you know because we're not going to bring them in and and just be like highlighting all of your negative. We're we're coming in with a plan of we see some of these things that need work done and and this is where we're going to start. So we are coming up with a plan as a team and not making it about one person and highlighting good things that everyone's doing like oh look at this like look at this growth here.
That'll be a simple move. The other side, closer to where we have our digital sign, will have to move about one foot of fencing. So, >> The sign is good. >> The The sign's good, yes. >> So, you're just shortening that piece of the fence. >> correct, correct. >> May I have a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Brian. >> All in favor? [snorts] >> I. >> Opposed? Passes [clears throat] 4-0. Recommendation to rescind approval of a lease agreement. >> Okay. >> After further discussion, it is recommended that Central Noble rescind the lease agreement that was approved at the March 2026 board meeting. Nothing went forward with that. We just had board approval, but pretty shortly after that, we got some other quotes. So, a new quote from Decktronics has been obtained that will save the corporation/athletics a total of $44,170 taking the total lease amount, which was over 90,000, to um to that savings.
I move we approve the budget report. Second. Moved by Bryce, seconded by Amy to approve the budget report. Any other discussion? All those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed? Motion passes 6-0. And we skipped right from the budget report to that other stuff. I just Yeah, forget about it. Now, new business. Yeah, so we talked about all of these except the last the last one and then the revision on Wednesday in our work session. So, I won't dig into it in too much, but the first one would be consideration approval of technology and engineering services and then our virtual chief technology officer services with Five Star. There's a savings here. We looked at that contract and again being as efficient as possible, it cuts out about $3,000 a month for the next 2 years. So, obviously there's a considerable savings and we would recommend your approval.
And I don't know if I read someplace maybe I did or didn't but I read scores everything goes up. I mean the sooner you get start educating these young kids social skills are critically important but that aligns with the academic side too. Right? Okay. Absolutely. Unfortunately we have to look at this the cost and I know that the parents that's a big chunk out of many of their their salaries and it's very important that we continue to to watch this and and try to keep it as close as we can and I know Dr. Hoover and staff have have done that. So we'll keep looking at it and of course seeing if there's other ways that we can help but at this point we have to move forward so All right. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. Okay Dr. Underwood the rest of it I believe is pretty much your show other than I'm going to turn it back over to the superintendent.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right? So, once students are at a level where they don't actively need support, they're they're released from that. So, I'm just curious though, is that I don't know if it's based on the thousand word Yeah, it's not a thousand words. I'm just wondering what the general people speak. Often times, people use the word thing. They use pronouns in place of what they're actually discussing. And that's considered fluent, I think. But that's what I was wondering about. Do you take it beyond that to get into scientific vocabulary or So, the criteria that's used for exiting ML services is based off of the last links proficiency assessment, which is those four domains that we talked about, I believe, at our last session. So, the speaking, listening, reading, and writing. And that's by grade level span. So, as the grade levels increase, that rigor increases.
I thought I understood my Korean background and my family's history, but I realized there were so many important stories that I've never heard of or never been taught at school. It showed me how much history is missing from what students learn every day. It also made me think about um why many immigrant families including mine came to this country. They came here believing in the American dream that their children would have u more freedom, more opportunities and a better future through education. But when students are not taught their own histories or the communities around them, we lose a part of the opportunity. We lose the chance to fully understand ourselves, our families, and the country we live in. That is why the Teach Act matters. It ensures Asian-American histories is included in Illinois schools so students receive a more complete and accurate education that reflects on the diversity in our school.
Um we also have in the bottom right we have a new program at North this year. It's called the alternate learning opportunities program which is sponsored through North Cook. So, we've begun that program which really focuses on student engagement, school engagement um with absenteeism as a big focus and then also mentoring as well. But we used our um school improvement grant money to pay for um that program at North. And then I would be remiss if I didn't talk about the amazing construction project that we have going on at North. I mean, I I was just talking to our custodian today, which is how I am a little school kid, like so excited about, you know, what are the new things that are happening. Um, and there is progress every single day. There's something new going on out there. Um, and we're really, really looking forward to the new learning spaces for our youngest students and bringing music classes back into the building and having a really nice cafeteria to support our students um during their downtime.
My two coaches, Suede and Crick, they don't we don't have the best team here at South, but they could have been replaced with the best team in the state and fit right in. We are I'm so blessed to have such good coaches. Um they've spent this guy I know has spent a lot of late nights worrying about my swims. Lost him a lot of sleep and probably some hair. So, we had a lot of momentum going into state series. We went to sectionals. I broke the school records. We qualified for state twice. Tons of momentum coming to state. Woke up Friday the morning of state. Couldn't really breathe, which in a sport where you can't really breathe anyway. Wasn't the greatest. I couldn't even go down the stairs without getting out of breath. Um, it was really hard because I kind of commit my life to this sport and try my hardest, but thanks to my mom and my coach, we uh pushed through and placed at Hey, hold on.
But because um next week's meeting uh requires the um uh voting of the board for the officer positions and things like that. Also in policy is the setting up of the board meets at the same meeting. So, just in um talking to staff, looking at feedback that we've had, um my own personal view on this, I'm just bringing this forward as some options so that you have something to consider. Um option one being the board can can just you know, continue to meet on Mondays. We do the third and fourth Mondays of every month with the exception of months where there's holidays. Um and that we can continue to do. It's easy, it's past practice. People probably have that set up in their schedules, which is good. And it does give some time between the COW meeting and the board meeting. We have a whole week.
So, I'm open and available for all questions that you may have. Thank you. >> Thanks. Thanks. Tie looks good, Grady. >> [laughter] >> It's fantastic. Nice. And can I have a motion and a second, please? So moved. Second. Any comments, discussion? All right, roll call, please. Mervica? Yes. Pappas? Yes. Ward? Yes. Dogan? Yes. Gorman? Yes. Hurst? Yes. Wasson? Yes. Motion passes. And I need a motion and a second to discuss and approve the resolution 520E to prohibit sexual harassment. So moved. Second. Questions, comments, discussions? So, what are you speaking about? This is what I was speaking about earlier. These are two resolutions that are recommended by the school board association as we brought bring our policy manual on the press plus. Um And so, they're advising us as and council has also approved, so. That's why it's here. Under the expense policy, um Tim, it looked like there's a blank amount um for reimbursements.
What is what are they doing in their classroom that maybe we can try in another classroom or with another school. I don't I think the teachers feel like it's it's not a waste of time. It's we're being intentional about what we're doing and there's a plan every time they go in there and they know that we're going to they and we are going to talk about meaningful things that make a difference not just well Well in the smaller schools I think they're you know you have to think about how to manufacture that team because if you only have one teacher teaching at a grade level that's tough too. Um so Good job. Thank you. Thank you. Very good. Okay C5 >> guys there's no judgement if you did want to take off. >> [laughter] >> Okay review of ACH fraud monitoring controls. So this is basically just like a checklist of the different controls that we have in place for our ACH files where we pay our vendors in the ACH files and also Preston's you know the payroll direct deposits you know to the bank through the files.
It's about 46,184 for just new scoreboards, not a video board. >> May I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Jason, second? >> I'll second. >> All in favor? I. Opposed? [snorts] Passes 4-0. Recommendation to approve first reading of ISBA policy updates, Jamie. >> Um so, this is just updates to standard standard policy revisions and some new policies from ISBA um in their quarterly release. Um we are about two behind, um but that's where we're at. Um this is just serving as the first reading of two. This cycle contained 17 total policies um for the initial review. Um all of those, the links were provided to you guys in the board packet. Um of the 17, two are required. Um Both are already adopted and contain revisions needed to align with changes in state law, and those are the school wellness and habitual truancy policies.
I move we approve the Five Star contract. Second. Moved by Amy, seconded by Katie to approve the Five Star contract. Is there any other discussion? I do have a question. We had talked at work session that in doing this that we might need to get Sam some help. Is that something that was sooner rather than later or is that an as needed or re-evaluate? No, this doesn't This piece doesn't affect anything for >> It does not. >> No, it just saves us money that if we need to, okay, then that's money we can look at down the road. But yeah, this changes nothing as far as the services. We weren't The the the $3,000 savings piece was a virtual help desk that we that we'd used one. They've only solved one. >> Yeah, that's all Yeah. So, essentially an unused portion of a a previous contract.
I would love to President Duckworth members of the board and Dr. Hoover do have March and first quarter month end uh items for you tonight. It is not solely based on vocabulary. It's multiple domains that are tested for language acquisition and proficiency. There you go. Okay, and with all of that, we have looked at all of those things including the frameworks and including the numbers and including everything that has been discussed thus far and come up with our vision for the for high-quality instruction for our multi- multilingual learners here in Cheshire. Um and that vision includes all of the things you see here. We really want to focus on the acquisition of language for those students. We don't want those students um sitting in a class where they're not understanding what's happening in the content area. So, we need to give them scaffolds so that they can participate in those rigorous learning activities. That's really important. And not only do we want them to participate, but we want them to also be acquiring new vocabulary and acquiring acquiring reading and writing skills and acquiring listening and speaking skills at the same time.
We want more Asian-American history classes and cultural class classes that allow students to deeply understand um learn about their um histories, not just brief briefly mention them. Representation matters because it helps students feel seen and connected to who they are and every student deserves that in their education. That is why I'm asking Stephvenson and all of you guys to take action to fully implement the Teach Act by adapting our demands and expand opportunities for Asian-American students. Students deserve to understand their identities, their histories, and their and the stories that ex that shape their families. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Good evening. My name is Andrew De Lasales and I serve as the suburban youth program coordinator at the Hana Center. As you've heard, the Hana Center is an immigrant justice and service provider based in Prospect Heights. We serve 16,000 individuals annually in Korean, English, and Spanish, and we have a wealth of community engagement programs.
We're really grateful and thankful for those resources that you've provided to us in our school. And at this time, take any questions. >> I I just want to say thank you. You guys go through so many changes there. You brought on a lot of newcomers. You guys, you just roll with it. You make it seem easy. And I know it's probably a ton of work. You guys make it seem easy, all of you guys. And I know it's a ton of work. That's a lot of changes physically to have to work through. And the fact that you're able to embrace it and make the best of it is a testament to all of you, everyone, and not only you guys, but the families as well, because there's a lot of upkeep. We understand that. So, thank you for your patience and >> thank you again to both of our schools.
