Um I I do think that had we discussed this maybe last year, I'd be ready to vote for this because then I would have taken into consideration maybe meetings could be changed to a different day. Um but I'm scheduled out. I keep Mondays open. Everybody in my house knows that I'm busy. Um but next year, there's going to be a new board. There's going to be an election. Um and so I think with that in mind, where I'm at on this is I'm going to do whatever is necessary to serve out this final year. Um whatever day that is that the board decides, um I'll make those adjustments, but I feel with next year, with there being a new board, that this is the heads-up that the day may not be Mondays. Um and have the the new board decide. That's kind of where I am on on this, but I'll do what the um the board feels is best, but I I do think it's important that we know that Mondays are um extremely difficult for admin.
So, uh don't want this to sound like we're just going to train pilots. That's not what this is about. Uh and so just uh keep us uh relevant and and accurate to jobs that are here. And the other side is the the strategy that we are in a great location with jobs that are available here. Uh sometimes we're training kids on on careers that would require them to move out of our region, uh but uh we have airports in our area that have huge needs in a lot of different aviation jobs. And so that's why it's not just unique to being a pilot. Thank you. I think that's it for the CCC. Did I miss anything? Uh and then bylaws. We did go over the bylaws. We reviewed the bylaws and um It's important. Yeah. For the CCC, so. My time. All right. Next up is our information items, which would be our FOIA report.
Yeah. >> So, yeah, I would say we're we're pretty pleased with things. >> know who had to come up with that pattern, but that's kind of crazy pattern. It's like four light bricks to dark bricks. Yeah. And that's looking nice, too. Yes, it is looking nice. Yeah. And so far the the budget, we're within budget and we'll we'll have some um extra money to to for the netting that goes along the side of this so it doesn't it get damaged by baseballs. Baseballs, yeah. Yeah, so. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. Any old business to discuss? E new business. E1 consider staff report and other personnel items. Can I get a motion? I'll make a motion uh consider staff report and other personnel items. I'll second. There's a motion and a second.
Thursday? >> Wednesday. Kim and I are in a meeting on Wednesday with superintendents around the state who are considering referendums and basically I'm going to listen and see what I can learn to to gather more information from that. I think that is all that I have on that except for I would encourage the board to think really long and hard about process to this. So, if I if I was left to my own devices, I would look at a at a meeting another public work session a week from today or somewhere around there and then shortly after that, whether it be a week or three days after that, an agenda item to simply just be a single item meeting to just talk about whether to close that. Now, closing or condensing consolidating the building. The reason I'm pushing for that is because that's would be the last week of April.
Did was it Did you start with this? I came from a Skyward school. Okay. When they presented the came here and presented Harmony to us, I thought it was easier for us to pull attendance reports for students and uh that all the different communication pieces that we have now would all be under one company. And so when we send out messages, it would be a lot smoother. We're not using separate entities to do that. Okay. What price would you say that's SIS versus what? LMS, learning management system. Okay. So what is the difference So we're not deciding on that We're not. No, it's just a different So what they're using could work with either one. Absolutely. Yeah. Uh state reporting part you said. Mhm. So currently we contract for that. Yep, we contract that out currently. >> for how we're going to We would We would again bring that in-house too.
The Kelp standards and rubrics are things that guide language acquisition, so we can measure and monitor the progress of of their language acquisition. Um and that's something that we're uh going to be working on. In addition, UDL strategies is what Ezra talked about. That's universal design for learning. That means we're deser- designing instruction for everyone. So, everyone has an access point, including our our ML um students. And when you combine that with high quality instruction and building thinking classrooms, which allows us to see thinking um right in the moment and better allows us to scaffold for that just-in-time, it becomes very, very powerful. So, it looks like alphabet soup up there, but it really is something that's really powerful in the classroom when planned. So, that's what we are looking for, ongoing training with our teachers, collaborating around those student success plans and making all of those things happen.
And while I still struggle at times with self-confidence and self-image, I've learned that growth isn't about being perfect. It's about continuing to move forward. One of the biggest part of that growth comes from the activities I joined. The Filipino American Student Association, Marching Band, and Latin Dance Society. These spaces gave me the opportunity to step into leadership and contribute to something bigger than myself. I went from quietly participating, often following in my siblings footsteps, to becoming an executive board in both the Filipino Club as well as in the Latin Dance Society. I've also choreographed performances for World's Fair over the past two years. Through these experiences, I've developed leadership skills that I know will stay with me long after high school. And honestly, teaching and leading a group of students is not easy. So, I have a lot of respect for teachers out there in the world, worldwide.
Last year, we received $420,000 for our used iPads. And we are now in the first year of our new teacher laptops, which we replace every four years. The next replacement cycle would be the 2930 school year. Um, and we sold our previous laptops this fall for $150,000. And that concludes the updates for tonight.
Um we have senior prom coming up this next Saturday. So everyone's very excited and looking forward to it. Also, everyone's running around trying to figure out pictures and bouquets and like all the other details. Um, we also have a lot of concerts coming up soon such as the jazz concert, the orchestra concert, and the band band concert. Um, senior awards are next week. Um, which is a group of seniors who will be recogn recognized by the community. Um, and sports are also in full swing as well as other activities. um sports such as volleyball, soccer, softball, baseball. Again, everyone's focused on their activities. Um so, a lot going on and a lot of excitement in the building. Um and for resources, as May 1st is approaching, most seniors have decided or are still deciding what college they're going to or just overall what plans they have after high school.
Um busy days and stuff. So, thank you for sharing that. And I will say we have periodically talked about this in the past, but they're always and this is just how it goes because of exactly what you're saying, Catherine. People have planned their schedule around the Monday, so it it is sometimes very hard for the board to be able to shift that. So. And I do want to say I personally have asked for more time with the agendas in the past. I have. That would be a benefit, I feel, to the board to have more time because getting an agenda, getting to look at it maybe at 8:30 on a Friday or a Saturday and not having that, we can email, of course, and you've been fantastic responding to emails even on the weekend, you know, but you shouldn't have to. You should um we should be able to have more time.
The information is included in the board packet. Um Next are the agenda items for our I think that's supposed to be from May, right? For May? For May. Which I have down as copy paper bid and the fuel bid. Yeah, there will be more added, but this is right now those are our known entities of what's going to appear next month at the agenda. And Dana will be able to talk all about those bids. Um are there any other items that board members would like to see on next month's agenda? I'll jump in if we could add the committees just for discussion on our committees, cuz I think that we have some board members that are um that aren't on some of our committees, so we'd like them So, discussion on committee memberships and board representation? Okay. You got that, Ash? Mhm. Okay. Thank you.
Is there are any questions or anything to add to the staff report before we vote? Okay, all in favor of considering the normal staff report and other items, signify by saying aye. Aye. All opposed? Motion carries. E2 consider approval of the following field trip requests. Prairie Crossing Elementary 6th grade students to Camp Tecumseh um September 8th, 2026 through September 10th, 2026. >> [snorts] >> Can I get a motion for that, please? I'll make a motion to approve the field trip request for Prairie to go to Camp Tecumseh. I'll second. Motion and a second. All Is there any question or discussion on that?
That would give us the month of May no matter what decision is made to communicate that with the people. We have people now who are enrolling their kids and want to know what what what classrooms their kids where their kids are going to go to school. I want to be fair to the patrons. I want to be fair honestly to everybody involved to have some more say but also not push it back out. And again, I want to go on record as saying I'm hearing time and time again less and less no yes and more and more just make any kind of decision. And and move on so that we can plan. So, I'm getting that out there. I don't my my my original thought were my original thoughts were the 27th and the 30th. So, next Monday and next Thursday. But I'm certainly not married to those.
And that's And you already have someone that's Yep. But what would be their job? Our district administrative assistant would take care of all that. AKA Mrs. Pearson. Everywhere on the system there's a log too. You guys have been on three in the last I don't know, 10 years. So this part of it doesn't change anything for teachers. How they take attendance and how they do the grade books. Okay. Got you. Or submitting a discipline record.
We talked a lot about universal design >> [snorts] >> last last time. And and you notice here, too, that folks are asking for, "How do I best do that?" So, the professional learning really is in those conversations, the let's look at that upcoming unit. Let's look at that upcoming lesson. How do we create those opportunities for learning that are supportive of everyone, but especially our multilingual learners? >> Do you use the SIOP model at all? We do um right within the success plan, the SIOP model is linked, but as you can see, we have some more work to do about calibration and shared understanding around how that success plan functions. Tim? Oh, I'm sorry. No, no, thank you. Just generally speaking, barring any unforeseen circumstances, so maybe you foresee things happening, but generally speaking, I think the majority of people who come to this who have kids in the school system probably move here early on.
What I've learned is this. Being pres being part of something is one thing, but truly making the most of it. Figuring out how your presence add value is what makes that me experience meaningful. I also want to recognize my student support team. They helped me learn to advocate for myself, not just academically, but mentally and emotionally as well. And that balance isn't often talked about, but it's incredibly important. At a school as large as Stevenson, it's easy to overlook the resources available. There are so many opportunities and supports, but you have to be the one that take that takes the first step to access them. And for me, that meant reaching out when I needed help. When working with my counselor and social worker, it allowed me to prioritize my mental and emotional support or help alongside academics, something I used to think had to be separate.
Any questions? Uh, I'm going to support Mr. Dennberg on his security initiatives. Um, it's something that we all have to be cognitive of. These devices are amazing and incredible and opened up the world to all of us in a beautiful way. But it also opened up a little bit of the dark side of the world. So, um, if you have a fishing attack in your email, do report it. Don't think about it. Just report it. Because, uh, my son just spent a week with his company in five locations went down. One person clicked something in an email and it took their entire company down for a week. >> So, it happens. We get the attacks at my company all the time. Um, yes. Good night. >> Um, so just just just be wary. Report anything and everything. It's better to be safe than sorry. Mr.
Um our college and career center continues to be an incredible resource for students. um they help with stuff such as FAFSA, um finding scholarships, um enrollment, or just overall helping students um find their path after high school. Um but yeah, overall pretty exciting past few weeks and following weeks in the building and in the community overall and I'm looking forward to finishing the year strong. >> Thank you, Romina. So, um, over the past few weeks, there's been a lot of positive momentum across the student body. Um, a lot of excitement about academics, activities, athletics, and post-secary planning, and students continue to show more ownership, accountability, and responsibility in the day-to-day school life. So, let's switch to what's working. We've talked a lot about the phone policy. So, the phone policy has been working well in classrooms. Phone has been kept in backpacks and have reduced distractions and improvement.
I I do think with the agendas. I did have a question though. Um If in the event that the meeting day is changed, is it the intention of admin to still get to the board those agendas on Fridays? It would be the plan. So, if the meetings were Tuesday, we'd still do agendas on Friday. Doing the agendas on the Friday is actually really helpful, especially for the business office. We would just be pushing the date of the meeting itself back a little bit. So, >> on Wednesday or Thursday, would we still agendas on Friday. >> Okay. So, technically, if a cow is on a Thursday, then the regular board meeting agenda then would come out the next day, right? And is that doable? It's tight, but it's doable. Okay. >> And it sounds like possibly Thursday is not going to work anyway, so if we're backing up to Tuesday or Wednesday for example, then that gives a little bit more leeway in there.
Anything else? All right. I read this before I ask for Read this before. Yes, so we're going to adjourn. Are you going to say Yeah. All right, we are going to move into an executive session now for that uh the appointment, employment, resignation, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, 5 ILCS 120 -2 C1, and litigation when an action against affecting on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent, 5 ILCS 120-2 C11. And Let's see here. This one do collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, 5 ILCS 120 -2 C2. So, with that, could I have a motion and a second to move from open meeting into a closed session.
