This is a maintenance contract. This is a new vendor um for us. This is this would be replacing um Seammens and the work that Seammens has provided in the past. we would be switching um to a company that specializes in this um at in essence the same cost. Um so we'll bringing more information in the mid meeting memo as well as to the board before we take action and that action will be in May. um annual oh sorry >> like um actual security >> this is our camera system our door locking system uh primarily as well >> network security >> correct thank you yes um every year we do take a look at our inventory of musical instruments um and >> can we ask a question >> sure yes um what led to the um looking at alternative >> I think we're we were looking at um getting a company whose main core business is in what we do um and some of the service issues that we have tried to ident identify as seams and that just hasn't happened over the past >> meaning educa they're primarily education based >> they're primarily spec they're specifically in hardware yes specifically in hardware and um secure video cameras combining the two together um and provide a better service for us than what we've gotten from seammens in the past.
So um they are also involved in the people from that meeting. So May 20 and 6:30 as a library every community member should be there. >> Yes. I will definitely >> Thank you. You're welcome. >> I have a couple questions for you. >> Yeah. that you've mentioned are they in committee have they passed out of committee what you know >> so every the ones that I mentioned should be in committee >> and can you keep us advised as to whether there are witness slips >> so what I think okay so I'm still learning all this you all have to bear with me that's like why I'm on this journey is to really understand this so I can really make change so I think witness slips are only when they're in uh a house I feel like I have to look at, you know, you over there.
>> Michael Riskey. >> I. >> Cara Castton. >> I. >> Katie Courtourtney. >> I. >> And Don Runner. >> I. Motion carries. >> Thank you to the Downtowners Grove Road owners. >> All right. Um for action items tonight. Um item A. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the recycled paper bid to Mine Paper Company in the amount of 77,259.50? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Ken moves. Mike seconds. >> Thank you. >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> Hi. >> Cara Casten. >> Hi. >> Katie Courtourtney. >> Hi. >> Chris Espinosa. >> Hi. >> April Fein. >> Hi. >> And Don Rener. >> I. Motion carries. I'm still waiting for that Dunder Mifflin. We're working on. >> Okay. Item B. Can I get a motion for the board of education award bids for custodial supplies to the noted vendors in the aggregate amount of $53,252?
Right? So they were voting on Starbucks versus Dunkin Donuts and the winner was not Starbucks and I'm still very impressed by that, but our kids through that process learned how to think about the process for election, but we kind [clears throat] of stayed away from some of the more, you know, controversial topics that was certainly present at at the time. So they learned all of the key ingredients of of of the election, we just kind of took the real life stuff out. Tim? Yeah, thank you. To whatever extent you can answer this. Can I interject? Following up on Heather's comment about what's going on in the classroom. Anecdotally, what's going on outside the classroom? In the lunchroom? When the teachers aren't there in charge of it? Are kids generally being civil? Are voices getting raised about politics or Iran or whatever might be? I'm just curious.
>> And from so from the cost perspective is more competitive than seammens >> I would say about the same. >> Yeah, it's about the same. >> Okay. But better service, more professional services. that is what the team ultimately agreed to. Yeah, we all kind of believe that >> that'll be better for our organization moving forward, >> especially when you think about what can be the complexity of tying cameras and door access systems together um operating under the same software. >> I guess that was my question is that um given the sort of hardware intensive nature of this were was much of the existing infrastructure that we have installed by Seammens. >> It was many gosh um that would really been 14 or 15 >> and is there any like need to sort of reconcile convergent and seammens or are those kind of industry standard like the equipment itself?
But I think I think there's only witness lips when it's I think when it's in committee, I'm not seeing witness lip options. So I got to see if there's a point where the witness slips stop happening. And I don't know if it when it goes from house to Senate. So what happens is and I'm so rough on this it goes to house then it goes to senate and then senate makes changes and house has to approve and then it can go up as a bill and then between how like in the house section that's when it's in committee under fixing these bills. So, I will update you. I will update you if I ever am incorrect about information. Just know that I'm still learning this and I'm not an expert standing because they happen when it's going to correct. >> Just keep us advised of who we should be contacting in support or to not support.
>> So moved. >> Second. >> Ken moves. Chris seconds. >> Thank you. Ken Dawson. >> I. >> Chris Espinosa. >> Hi. >> April Fein. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> I. >> Cara Castton. >> Hi. >> Katie Courtourtney. >> I. >> And Don Rener. >> I. Motion carries. >> Item C. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the resolution authorizing property tax abatement for the Rexner facility for the 2025 tax year? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Chris moves. Katie seconds. >> Thank you. >> Chris Espinosa. >> I. >> Katie Courtney. >> I. >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> April Fein. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> Hi. >> Cara Casten. Hi. >> And Don Rener. >> I. Motion carries. Item D. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the 2025 tax rates as presented?
I can't say. I mean speaking for the middle school, I can't really say that that's a hot topic of what's happening in the cafeteria. Yeah. I have not heard comments, you know, in that in that way, but I mean there's voices in the cafeteria, I assure you. >> [laughter] >> I don't they're not they they and I can't say that they're respectful 100% of the time, but generally speaking it's it's about, you know, knucklehead kinds of things. It's not really political. I I I've not heard much of the political banter at Dodds. Yeah. You know, lunch lunch I know what I never really paid attention to until I was a junior in high school. Before that I meant absolutely nothing. Was there is there anything that I mean are Yeah, I I think I mean I think that amongst our students there's a fairly similar discourse, I think overall generally speaking.
>> Um so there's not going to be a ton of there won't be equipment replacement unless it's actually just at its end of life would be which we would have had to replace. So they can support everything. >> Correct. Correct. Yeah. This isn't going to lead to us have to spend several million dollars redoing our entire door access or camera systems. That's correct. >> But is the new company also manufacture about their own brand products or are they using other brands? >> They're using a lot of other brands in terms of cameras, you know, but this is their core competency if you will. >> Okay. Got it. Thank you. Mhm. Great questions. Um, music industry, uh, music inventory rather. Um, we do take a look at all of the instruments and their useful life. Um, what the fine arts team has, uh, provided to us as an update of those instruments that are in need of replacement.
>> Whoever the chair of the committee is, if we get that from you, one person that we don't have. >> Yes. And I did talk to ISB because they send out emails like like immediate action emails. The only problem is is like the other day it was like do it by three, >> right? >> And I was like I me >> I know. So Jen isception. >> Yeah. They are working on a text system. >> So when they get that down it'll be also easier to like then instantly send out to you guys like, "Hey guys, please do a witness. Reach out to this person." Um I'll get better. I'm I'm trying to figure out the process. You're You won't benefit from it. But I will I do want us all taking action. I want We all need to get more involved on that state level and I will work on getting that information the right way to you guys.
So moved. >> Second. >> Cara moves. Mike seconds. >> Thank you. Cara Casten. >> I. >> Michael Riskey. >> I. >> Katie Courtourtney. >> I. >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> Christopher Espinosa. >> I. >> April Fein. >> I. >> And Don Rener. >> I. Motion carries. >> Thank you. >> Item E. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the one-year audit service proposal from Sikitch in the amount of $49,300? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Mike moves. Chris seconds. >> Thank you. Michael Riskey. >> Hi, >> Christopher Prestosa. >> Hi, >> April Fein. >> Hi, >> Cara Casten. >> Hi, >> Katie Courtourtney. >> Hi, >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> And Don Rener. >> I motion carries. >> Thank you. >> Item F. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the termination of the external school treasurer services effective June 30th, 2026, and support the establishment of an internal school treasurer function beginning July 1st, 2026.
I also think another thing we do really well at the high school is that we provide outlets for students from a variety of perspectives to engage in extracurricular clubs. So they can be impassioned and and an advocate through those and hopefully take the lessons from the class in terms of just how to respectfully disagree with other students and carry those forward into their lives while also learning about like impassioned advocacy and being engaged with a an extracurricular club. And I'd have to say the advisors of those clubs multiple clubs work very well together to make sure that students know how to advocate in a good way and know how to listen in a good way. I had a recent example where we had students advocating to support a situation. They wanted to take informed action on a very recent local situation in our school community affecting our school community.
Um, we do do a bid. Um, but that is also, um, part of the budget process that we go through every year. So it fits within what we have established as a budget for this uh this equipment and um hopefully that comes in under budget. Sometimes it does um and so we we can um take advantage of that. So again more information about these specific instruments um that will be bid out um and moving forward. You'll see that in the mid meeting memo and then again in the board book. Um we also are doing a bid on our uh yearbook and photography services. Um our yearbook um contract has expired. Um we are seeking bids from other um from all of the players in that yearbook um realm if you will. Um what's interesting about this is we don't technically have to do a bid because this is in fact uh costneutral and revenue producing for uh the district because we don't actually spend money buying the yearbooks.
>> Anyone can fill out a witness list. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. >> It takes two ends. >> Yes. And we should be and it should be we should have maybe an education piece on that because people don't know where to go. >> That's okay. Anyone else? >> The education foundation did not meet last month. I have no updates. >> I'll talk a little bit about the history center because I'm a trustee there. And one of the core missions we have at the history center is education. We're able to get back into our schools now, which makes me very happy personally. and we work with things like flip the trip so that we can get involved in those. We are fully staffed. We'll call it fully staffed. We expect at some point we will need more staff than we've ever had before. Uh our part-time curator for exhibits and education is now full-time as of today.
>> So moved. >> Second. >> Ken moves. Chris seconds. >> Thank you. Ken Dawson. I >> Christopher Espinosa >> I >> April Fein >> I >> Michael Riskey >> I >> Cara Casten >> I >> Katie Courtourtney >> I >> and Don Rener >> I motion carries. >> Thank you. >> Item G. Can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the intergovernmental agreement with the village of Woodridge Woodidge Tax 75th Street corridor tax increment financing district and the other taxing districts. >> So moved. >> Second. >> April moves court or Katie seconds. >> Thank you very much. April Fein, >> hi. >> Katie Courtourtney, >> hi >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> Chris Espininoza. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> I. >> Cara Casten. >> Hi. >> And Don Rener. >> I. Motion carries. >> Thank you. >> As to old business.
And one of the students said to me, "Mr. Hamlin, we know how to navigate this. We disagree and give different perspectives all the time in class. This is what we do in social studies. We know how to handle this part of it." So this was a meeting of one of those clubs after school and well right off the tongue and that it was provided really good evidence that their teachers and advisors are coaching them and facilitating conversations in ways that allow them to do that. Do we have things that flare up from time to time? Sure, we're in a hyper politically charged environment right now. Having navigated each one of those situations and been able to temper it and and reconnect for the most part, yes. Thank you. Yeah, and I was looking over there. I'm sorry. I could have turned to you. I was >> No, that's the beauty [laughter] but I just Sometimes I can't help myself.
Those are literally just paid for by the families that wish to purchase them. But we do feel like it's a good practice kind of bid those out and see what other firms have to offer in terms of not only producing the yearbook but then working with our um yearbook club to deter to uh on the software and how easy it is to um uh transfer pictures and names and update the yearbook. Um that is a very intensive process. So the better the the easier the software is to manipulate, the better I think off is the final product. We're also concerned about timelines in this as well. Uh spring sports are barely getting started as we're looking to tie up and start printing our yearbooks. So, we want to make sure that the timelines that are provided give us ample opportunity to include as many as the sports and or as many of the spring activities that occur um every year.
Thank you very much. >> We have a brand new exhibit that open. We had a soft opening today that is flora fauna and us it is the ecology of displayplains we did that in partnership with the field museum the notabart museum and the Isaac le so our level of contact and the resources that we're bringing into our history center are extensive now that we have this director and these people on sale we have new hours which I'm very happy about as well. We're now open Sunday through Friday noon to 4 to the public. And we have evening hours until 8:00 on Tuesday, which will help for everybody who wants to come see the art exhibits and the other exhibits who can't come on before 4:00 in the afternoon. So, it's a it's a major undertaking for us and we do it so that we can get you and students in.
Um, can I get a motion from the board of education to approve the policies as previously presented? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Chris moves 10 seconds. >> Chris Espininoza. >> Hi. >> Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> April Fein. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> Hi. >> Cara Casten. The board will be going into close session for open meetings act exception number one personnel open meetings act >> communications announcements first. >> Oh, did I skip that? I'm sorry. >> I did. >> Apologize. >> We have no other visitors by the way. No comments for public comment. One second. I'm scrolling through. Uh, no new business and no additional reception of visitors. >> Okay. Item 13, communications. Um, can I get a report on Lend Cara?
So Marine, will these be up on the website these two PowerPoints? I mean they were excellent. You guys did a wonderful job tonight with both topics. Um we we these will be as on the website as part of the minutes of the curriculum committee. The goals are what eventually go on the website. They would go up September, October. Would teachers have access to these cuz this is a lot of good information for teachers, too. Oh, teachers have access to to all this information through the department chair meetings, through the division meetings, through grade level meetings, through a variety of of ways teachers have this information and teachers were a part of this process. Teachers were a part of the conversations that went into it, they were a part of the surveys that were done, they were they were knowledgeable about the um about the focus groups.
