So, that will be coming back um to the board again in May. And then lastly, um we do have um some multi-function devices. uh used to call these copers back in uh when I started, but now they're significantly more um sophisticated. Um one of the things that is um very interesting is the the new models of multi-function devices allow for automatic redaction. So if we were to ever get a FOYA, they can um redact easily. they can help us redact the documents that need to in fact be redacted. Um these also are um units that are at their end of life um out of lease if you will and so we are looking to do this and the quote that we got is um actually going to hopefully save us money as well. So more information >> recently do a Canon >> what's that? >> Didn't we recently approve a Canon?
We're working on a major field trip with Chima where we're going to have a couple hundred students come over on one day in in groups >> because if you've been to the history center you know we can't fit 200 some odd people in there. There is a meet and greet with two of your state representatives, Michelle Musman and Justin Cochran on April 28th, 5:30. We're not touting this as a political event. This is to meet them. And of course, Michelle Mustin is very important to us because she chairs the education committee. So, uh, I invite you to come have some refreshments and talk to two of the more important representatives we have down in the state. And the current photo exhibit runs through the end of the month. It's wildlife photographs that are just extraordinary. And there is a reception on April 30th from 5:30 to 8.
>> So, the this month on March 31st, our federal committee met with um Reps Casten and Reps Ramirez and the the district director for Rep. foster and we talked about our federal priorities. It was a great meeting. We had the whole committee there, superintendents, business office leaders, schoolboard members, really great, really great dialogue and our ask was basically to update them on changes to the legislation and you know get them to hopefully continue to support um the same level or increased. Most of the the rep the two representatives there are not on the committees that um passed that legislation but wanted to advocate on behalf. Um so that was exciting. And then I did not attend the meeting. Did you go to the meeting this month? I was unable. >> No, I got caught up through other means, but there's just a lot. There's another meeting on Friday.
You know, I just see it as a teaching tool also, you know. But that's okay. That's why we have PD. Any other questions? No. Thank you. Thank you both for this. >> That's why we can't cut PD in the budget. Okay, assistant superintendent's Thank you social studies team. Thank you. Fantastic. So I have a brief update Tomorrow I wanted you to know that we are team is headed to the science of reading master class. I think this is our second to last. Second to last one. Our last one will be in May. We've all found it very interesting and the national speakers have you know, been a great deal. Yeah, that's been nice. On Friday we have a busy Friday. We have the early entry to kindergarten screenings that will be conducted at Darcy. There's also a Holocaust presentation at the high school for freshmen only.
>> Yeah. So we we do have two multi-function providers Canon and Image Tech. It does keep both of them um and competitive in the pricing of what we do here. >> Just different machines. >> Correct. >> Yep. Different machines, different places. >> Okay. >> And then lastly, you will see the um we had a a little bit of a busy month in terms of foyer requests. Um this month is just as busy. Um but a couple of them are um what I would say repeat um requesters. We are starting to see more and more requesting on purchase orders and what kind of information we can get from our software. Ultimately, we believe this is an opportunity for them to try to sell us their product. Um, you can see then one was on the budget. Um we did some have some class enrollment and then um the district leadership was about um the I think that was the one that was about uh the different types of softwares that were in fact using um as part of that.
Come drink some wine, have some cake, and see some extraordinary photographs. >> What time is it the 30th? on the 30 at 5:30. >> Thank you. >> We have enough warming cake to last. >> Are you sure? >> I bought it. I'm sure. >> Okay. >> It's nice to see you distressed about this. >> It's really anybody else. >> Okay, moving along. We've got superintendent report. >> Thank you. I'm I've got a little bit here, but I'm going to go quick. Uh on the outside, we've had uh seven out of school suspension since we um had our last meeting. Four of them were to fighting middle school students to do. Uh we had students bringing bait pens to school, which we're working on, you know, preventing and one student with racial slurs on one of our bosses. So, we are thankful to the staff, the people that are engaging these students and families hopefully y some better behavior.
>> Yeah, there's one coming up. >> A lot of legislation out there. A lot of things moving through. So, >> so we'll collect >> a lot of mandates. >> Yeah. >> Right. And of course, the lens focus is on, you know, not supporting any unfunded mandates. So, we'll see how that goes. So, we'll bring back an update >> after the next one. >> Thank you. Chris, can I get a report on Sassid, please? >> Uh, nothing to report so far. >> Uh, really a lot of facility work. We're looking at some properties to maybe uh be able to move the cooperative from paying a lot of rent to paying a mortgage instead. Uh, which short-term and long-term savings for the cooperative. So, that's and then staffing and everything else is going on. Just all the same things going on here. >> April Katie, anything to report from the foundation?
Freshmen all freshmen on Friday. Friday. Friday morning. And then what's that what was that? The Holocaust presentation for the freshmen. And then we have the town wide art show which will be throughout the day for our students and then in the evening for friends and family. We are also in the process of surveying all of our kindergarten paraeducators because now that we've moved our certified staff we need to start shuffling around some of the paraeducators and special ed paraeducators. We're also looking and examining our learning support tutors to make sure we have adequate support at each of those buildings. We're also evaluating instructional supplies because we know that the budget is limited and so we've sort of done a five year look back. We'll be I don't know I will be working with principals in the coming weeks but after the budget is closed, to reallocate resources just from one building to another because we know we're not going to be able to order everything.
So um all that information is there. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask. >> That's all I have tonight. >> All right. Could I get a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> So moved. Second.
Um, next I have a slew of things to share with you. I'm excited and you know Kim Leaka and Diana Green, I want to thank them on the front end here. They left. I think they had to go. But they are our Olympic athletic directors and they are I know that you know that there's an event this Saturday. >> Uh it is our track and field event at Hoffman States High School to get a little more details on timing. Opening ceremony begins at 8 and the athletes compete between 9:15 and 1:30. So if you like schedule visit, you would like to pop by um it's wonderful. It's a great event. I'm so excited. Um, you know, we thank you. We thank our families and the athletes for enriching our our athletic experience in the district. We also like to thank Dr. Chris Fararo who submitted with me because I'm the one who has to push the button, but she submitted a grant for our Special Olympics program.
The meeting this month was cancelled. Um there's a bit of restructuring going on internally. Um I think we mentioned before Julia is stepping down um and uh shuffling around some positions. Um but we're going to be meeting less frequently now. I believe we're changing to a bimonthly meetings. >> Okay. >> Uh Ken, anything to report on IESP, please? >> Not really. What a lot of uh different things in the pipeline, but nothing really finalized. One interesting thing is the um cell phone ban policies back on Governor Pritsker's desk. So, it' be interesting to see if that goes through statewide or not. I think we've done a great job of being proactive and regardless of the outcome of that, we have a great policy in place. So, >> and ours, sorry, ours would be grandfathered through 203 >> 31. Yeah. And then you'd have to align yours with the >> Y.
We're going to have to make do a lot with what we have. Ezra and I met with a librarian from another district who has undergone a move to new schools. So, we're working with Winnie and the moving company to make sure that we have everything in place that we need for how the library will be set up. And when you have a library moving this way and combining Darcy and and Chapman, there's some considerations we need to take into consideration along with the data that we have on all of the collections. So, that's another thing that we've got working behind the scenes. And then next week begins our smarter balanced assessments. So, students are and staff are getting ready for those with practice tests and we're training all of the teachers to make sure they feel comfortable and confident in those that administration. So, that's a little taste of what's going on.
Any questions? >> Sorry. >> Oh, consent. Sorry. Okay. Um, back to you. No. >> Uh, yes. >> Frost. >> Hi. >> S. Hi. Yes. Uh, >> Ty. Hi. Aw. Okay. >> Okay. Uh only just a couple items for tonight. Some student profiles. Thank you to Jamie and Green and their team for putting that together. Um you see a list of uh important dates there. um just kind of our usual eb and flow, but just wanted to remind the board of um kind of our very own version of um uh heck week, which is May 18th. Um we're like Bud's training, heck week, you know. Um May 18th is our board meeting. May 19th, we'll have exec session to review the performance of administrative team members. And then our favorite day of the year, uh, May 22nd is graduation of the opportunity to see our kiddos graduate at the Sears Center.
What was the final number again? I'm trying to read. >> 34,000 from Rivers Casino. So, we'll take that and happily use it to support our students and program. So, rock and roll. >> Excited. um NJH cere NJ NJHS ceremonies are popping up and friends there's one on the 23rd this week six o'clock at AMS I'll shoot these out to you but I think um if you're you know if you're first if you are a liaison at that school you know and you haven't heard anything I would love to try to make sure that you you know that you're invited and going I saw some invitations coming out CMS is on the 7th of May at 6:30 and I on the 11th at 6 p.m. So, we'll we'll put that out to the board as a reminder if you want to go. Um, watch out. New thing, drone soccer exposition.
So that's it. >> Okay. I have nothing to report as liaison for the village of Downers Grove. Um I do want to note uh that I think appointments for committees are up soon. Is that correct, Julie? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, um, if any of you are either interested in trying to change your committee assignment or want to take on a new role, please contact me and I'll work on uh uh your requests and uh see if we can get that set for the upcoming school year. Okay. Item 14, upcoming board meetings. We have a a workshop meeting here at the ASC on May 4th um at 6:30 p.m. followed by our monthly business meeting uh again here at the ASC on May 18th, 2026 also at 6:30 p.m. And then getting to the close session which I had gotten to earlier. Um we are going to be moving into uh close session under items exceptions one for personnel uh exception two for collective negotiating matters and exception number 11 for um uh litigation under open meetings act.
Am I correct in assuming that I can go to the art show during the morning hours? Yes, that's a good question. >> Yes, you can. Yeah. Thank you. I'd have to look to know the exact time but we are open for till the during the day. You'll enter through the gym. I feel like it's 9:00 to 2:30 or something like that. >> Yes. Yeah, it is It's just Monday and Tuesday something about for the parents >> Open to the Yeah, yeah. It's 8:00 to 8:00. But we can come during the day. Questions, Tim? Uh so, you didn't mention this, but I'm curious. Math League.
So, three big evenings that week. Um, that's kind of the culmination of the year. So, uh, we will feed you well, we promise. Um, and we thank you for your service. So, um, and then other than that, uh, just the rest of our usual a lotment of news and information. So, prom this weekend. Anybody wants to >> prom this weekend? If you'd like to uh be a chaperon, just let Troy know. >> It's my 30th prom. >> Oh, I can tell. >> I still can't get a date. >> Danielle, it's too smart to go. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> All right. >> Could I get a motion to adjurnn? >> So moved. >> Second. >> All in favor? Hi.
I hope you got it. On 22nd at 5:30 p.m. at AMS, you will see our ICS drone pilots in action. I'm excited to see that. We had the one demonstration at >> Yeah. And that student flew through the basketball hoop rim like they I was like, I would have definitely broke that rule. So, lot of pressure. >> Great work, children. um working on soccer as a program. Uh I don't want to go too deep on it, but we have possibly four school districts and one that happens to own two brand new turf soccer fields. So, it might actually alleviate some problems. I'll be coming to you soon with a pitch on a pitch. Making sure that we have soccer for our middle school students. >> Any um time to have a meeting. Uh happy news. Uh, one of our former students, Angela Ugallic, has been selected ninth overall for Washington Mystics in 2016.
So can I get a motion from the board of uh education to go into close session for exceptions number one exception number two and exception number 11. So moved. >> Second. >> Ken moves. Chris seconds. >> Thank you. Ken Dawson. >> Hi. >> Chris Espinosa. >> I. >> April Fein. >> Hi. >> Michael Riskey. >> Hi. >> Cara Casten. >> I. >> Katie Courtourtney. >> Hi. >> And Don Runner. >> I. Let's take a quick break and we'll reconvene in about a few minutes.
Mhm. How many schools do they have? So, just >> Not all schools. I What I should say is how many Jester Elementary schools participate? Yeah. I don't know that they all participate in the same one that Norton does. They are They are all involved in some kind of math competition. It might not all be the same one. Mhm. But I understand. Congratulations. A little munchkin over at Norton, I think really did super well on it this time around. Am I right? Yeah. Nice job. I didn't even know we had it. Thank you. Congrats. No, it was just I was surprised cuz it didn't seem like it was all the schools and I wasn't sure if that was like a budget issue or because I think it's driven by Ms. Monty who's Is she only Norton? She's only Norton. Okay. All right, so that makes sense then.
