There are a couple individuals I would like to recognize. Um, you know, uh, bittersweet feeling. Um, it's our kindergarten teacher, uh, who has done a tremendous job with all of the students in this school four community. Um, and is our district anti-bullying specialist and director. So, we thank her for all of her years of service and wish her well in the next chapter of her life. This is, uh, Fontan She's our, uh, school four teacher, uh, kindergarten teacher, and has been in the district for a number of years. I was lucky enough to teach, um, in well, uh, back when I was in the classroom over at the high school. So, I heard that she was she was teaching over at school four, um, I wasn't surprised because of, um, who I had in my classroom for for a couple years. So, we wish her well, um, on on her, uh, last couple months in the classroom.

I would like to start by recognizing some of our donors and volunteers who helped to make this greenhouse project come back to life. So, thank you to our many donors and volunteers who have helped with restoring our greenhouse. It's been a goal of our superintendent, a goal of many teachers, a goal of mine, and many of the staff here and students through the years that asked, "What's that? What's that big thing over there?" You know? And now, all of these students are going to have the opportunity to take part and be in the greenhouse throughout the year, learning and growing in there. Okay. Good evening. Welcome everyone to the DeKalb County Central United School District Board of Education regular meeting. Today is Tuesday, April 21st, 2026. At this time, I'll ask all those that are able to please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Um, thank you Sherry for taking minutes this evening and I'm going to turn u we have a few things on the agenda so I'm going to turn it right over to Mike so we can uh get started. >> Thank you Luis. I appreciate it. I think they've um Ken, if you want to just um pull up the agenda really quick, just take a look at the items because I think we added some stuff on um to cover a few uh different topics today in addition to the financials, but um we could start here with the financials. Um excuse me, Angela, you want to take the financials? >> Sure. >> Great. Um so we're presenting the financials for the month ending March 20 uh 26. Our general fund expenditures for the month of uh March totaled 15.1 million. This is compared to 14.0 million for the same period in the prior year.
It's very difficult to work with, but it's definitely fun to use. I will say that. Uh, what do you like making art of the most? Probably either people or surroundings. I really like to draw, um, landscapes and like forests with maybe an animal in it or just very simple yet extraordinary things to see. What what got you into art? I started art when I was younger because my family have always been super into, um, art things. My aunt was a beautiful artist. My dad's a really good artist. And as I grew up, I grew up around singing, which that brought me into the world of music and art around that. And then I learned how to draw from YouTube videos and continued that until now where I just draw cuz it makes me happy. Uh what other forms of art do you enjoy? Um I like a lot of musical like I said and I also like um it's not necessarily an art but like martial art.

I feel that I need to give a personal thank you. Mrs. Fontan, I've been in education a very long time, and she is perhaps one of the greatest teachers I have ever encountered. I know myself, I would not have gotten through my daughter's kindergarten year without Mrs. Fontan. She is caring, she is passionate, she is wonderful with the children, and she is just a pied piper, and I think that some of the things that she has done in her kindergarten will stay with the children forever. I want to thank her for the Mother's Day shells that she has done year after year that the kids give their mothers for Mother's Day. I want to thank her for the gingerbread book and the gingerbread, uh, ornament for the Christmas tree that she has done year after year. She will be greatly missed, and she will not be able to be replaced.
You have all been a part of restoring a very beautiful gift to us here at Continental, and we couldn't be more grateful to you for your time, for your service, for your love, and for your passion, and for your commitment to our school community and our Continental Pool. I would now like to call our president from our foundation, Bonnie Clark, who also was a part of helping with getting donations and funding grants for When my kids started here in my teen of '97, uh it was it was very active. We had this fortune to we would take the kids and and teach them about planting and they took their plants home to their parents. It was just a wonderful community uh place. And then it went into disrepair and now, because of all the people that uh wanted to have it come back, we have the next generation, or actually a couple of later generations, that are going to be able to experience the same things that my children children uh experienced.
With this acknowledgement, the Creighton School District formally recognizes that the traditional care and keeping of these lands by indigenous people is an aspirational model of community stewardship that we are committed to honor with practices, our policy, and human relations. That brings us to our roll call, item B. Ms. Heather Ayers, Ms. Gibson-McLean, myself, Mr. Jones, and Ms. Marquez are present. We want what we want to welcome everyone to tonight's meeting and remind the audience of the request to address board cards that must be completed and submitted to the board secretary if they wish to speak to an agenda item. Board policy provides for two cards, white cards, to be submitted in order to speak to a specific agenda item, and blue cards to be submitted in order to speak during public comments. Due to our open meeting laws, board members are not allowed to address items that are not on the agenda, and this is per our policy 1-302.

Up first, we have McKinney-Harrison Elementary. All right, thank you so much. Good evening, everyone. Thank you for the opportunity to present here tonight. Uh I'm joined by some very handsome young men here in the front row from McKinney-Harrison, and they're going to talk to us about some of the really awesome things we're doing in robotics, and uh how it ties into our CKLA. So, at this time, I'll turn it over to Mrs. Renee Beeler, our computer science teacher.
This year we had one time spendown which was about 4.5 million. March expenses for payroll include two full pay periods. Um, general fund expenditures for the fiscal year-to- date total 108.1 million with an additional 60.3 million encumbered. The annual budget for the general fund is 172 million which leaves a fund balance of 3.5 million and this equates to 2.06 6 of the budget. As the year progresses, um we do anticipate additional items coming through that have not been encumbered and we will encumber them and it drives the balance down to a break even point. Um there are additional expenses such as I think it's graduation expenses that the district incurs and those are not encumbered and therefore will also drive the balance down. Um our benefits have a favorable balance. We received um the actual number is $1,586,79186 credit for the Sigma from Sigma for the annual pharmacy rebate.
