These are only some of the ones that are listed on for K to 5. So, I ask you please to use our money to get the teachers back in our classroom for our kids. Thank you. May I conclude your public comment? All right, thank you to our speakers. We'll now move on to item seven, the consent agenda. According to our board policy, we designate a portion of the action items on the agenda as a consent agenda for those items that usually do not require extensive discussion before board action. These items generally are routine, recurring, and can be grouped together for efficiency. Steve, would you lead us through the consent agenda? Absolutely. Uh I just wanted to note that uh what uh Superintendent Kim said at the beginning, there's a couple of changes in sub one one change in 7.4 with an addition of a name, and then the change with the uh 7.5 donation.
>> Thank you. Thank you, Matt. All right, moving on. Item E, we will I'll ask for a motion to adopt and amend the agenda. I'll make a motion. I'll second. I have a motion and a second.
Any questions on this before we move? >> If there aren't any questions, I just wanted to mention one more thing. Um when when we open that account, um we created a policy, a board policy for the use of that fund uh those funds. So, it's not um it's not a a fund that Cara and I can dip into to cover operating expenses. Um all expenses have to be approved uh by the board before we actually use them. And there'll be tight controls and reporting around uh the balances in there uh the purchase orders that are going against those. Um so, I just wanted to mention that as well. >> Do do we have a dollar amount on that that goes in front of the board or is that any amount? Any amount. >> Any amount. Okay. >> I what I would do, Louise, is I wouldn't bother the the committee with $50 here and there.
When we are Thank you for the question. When we're looking at teachers, we haven't been able to identify a direct teacher-student outcome pattern, but we have started to notice a pattern in the structure for the model. And we do see that the 2-hour model appears to be yielding a greater output than our other models in our initial look at the data. I guess my follow-up with that, and we haven't thought of that, is if that is true, how are we leaning into that to make it seem more to see if there is efficacy in that wondering that we have. I think one of our greatest challenges is the staffing component of it and the number of students that is um guiding the decisions that principals in working with Teya, in working with Dr. Lauren on the staffing. Um however, I think that leads to what Teya shared earlier about the focus on integrated instruction.
So, here we go. 7.1 is the approval of minutes from March 16th, 2026. Uh 7.2 is the approval of the minutes from April 7th, 2026. 7.3 is the approval of our payroll and bills. 7.4 is the approval of our monthly uh personnel report. We are we have now uh we're hiring for next school year, and there's a couple of names in there that will be here. Uh 7.45 is the approval of uh donations. We're thankful to Caterpillar uh for their various donations to a lot of our programming at Batavia High School. Uh 7.6 is the approval of review destruction of closed session recordings from September 17th, 2024. 7.7 is the approval of our food service contract renewal. 7.8 is the approval to award a copy paper bid. 7.9 is the approval of the IHSA 2026-2027 renewal. 7.10 is the approval of the Google Workspace for Education renewal.
Any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> [clears throat and cough] >> Motion passes. Okay, item F is the consent agenda. I will not ask the board that we will be removing item eight or item C18 and voting on that separately after we vote on the consent agenda as that is my daughter. So, I will recuse my vote. Okay, at this time I'll ask for a motion for the consent agenda. This includes items F1 through F5, the board minutes, financial report, claims, personnel, and field trips. I'll make a motion. Second. I have a motion and a second.
I would probably save them up and then do it all at once in kind of a a summary format. >> Okay, understood. Any questions on this before we move it? >> Kate, did you have a question? >> Um, I had I guess I had a couple questions. I just want to make sure I understand correctly. So, we're looking at transferring funds for 23 24 25 26. Correct. >> Um, it would it starts in 24, but the 24 number is 2% of the 23 budget. >> 23 24 budget. Okay. >> Okay. I just wanted to clarify that. Thank you very much. Um, and then um my other question is, and I'm apologize. I'm trying to pull up the um the policy online, but it's it's just not uh it's not pulling up for me. Sorry, let me see if I pull it up the other way here.
Because if we time is what's going to help us the most. So, if we can empower our classroom teachers with as many instructional supports that we can so that all day, every day, students are being um taught in ways that scaffold their language development, their content acquisition as well, that we will see um continued output. So, some of that initial observation work that Teya and the team did was to help to guide recommendations for new cohorts for next year for continued professional learning. Because we know our SEI cohorts one and two have been very impactful and now we would like to consider the opportunity for what we would call like an integrated cohort for language acquisition. Okay. Thank you for that. Um the only thing that I'm going to say is that um I think part of this work is that adult convenience portion of it, right?
7.11 is the approval of Dirk Trace renewal. 7.12 is the approval of the disposal of surplus tech. 7.13 is the adoption of textbook on public display, and 7.14 is the approval of our software renewal. Thank you, Steve.
Any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. I. Motion passes. Okay, item C8. Do I have a motion? I'll make a motion. I'm sorry, C18. I'll make a motion. Second. I have a motion and a second.
There it is. Okay. Um we don't we don't have specific parameters on what those funds could be used for, but I guess what I would like to get a sense of is since they're one-time funds, right? These are these are overage funds from year to year. Um what do you foresee as the best way to use these funds and is the intention to kind of keep them as a rainy day until like we we come into that situation? >> I'm just looking for some admin like sense of what the administration is. >> Yeah, the the only thing I would caution against using it for um because it is a one-time uh funding source is any recurring expenses. So, I don't think that we should enter into anything recurring with a one-time funding stream. That's kind of how we wound up in many of these uh cliffs and and mini cliffs that we're in now.
And when we see out of the box bright spots, even though it it might cause us major headaches, I think it's worth looking into. And I know that you guys do all the time, but sometimes if we see something that's effectively working, how do we a little bit stretch whatever we can to duplicate those? And I know time is very very hard, but sometimes it'll take something crazier out of the norm to be like, "Hey, maybe there is some kind of immediate correlation." So, that's just a thought that I have, not that I I know it's it's hard with the limited resources that we have. So, thank you guys for looking into the bright spots and trying to figure how we can duplicate those um throughout the system. I was going to say what I what I do want to share is that um when we were looking at the targeted instruction, we were we were doing observations to see what the teachers needed to figure out our professional development and coaching.
Does the board have any questions or comments? Uh 7.10. Is the cost increase a one-time increase due to the new student licensing requirement? Uh and are there any other options that we could explore in the future? So, it is an increase due to the change in licensing model. That reoccurs every year. So, once it's on this new model, we pay every year anyway. But, due to this increase, this is the first time this has actually come to the price increase. Um as things progress, we're starting to change the way you manage these accounts, so you can change the types of. So, that helps us save money that way. The only other option to get out of this is to move to some completely other type of system like a Microsoft or something else like that. So, you're looking serious costs if we did something like that.
Any discussion? It's nice to keep our kids here. >> [laughter] >> True story. All those in favor signify by saying I. I. Motion passes. Four. Four yes votes. Okay. And before you move on, Valerie. Can I just I just want to put a little plug in in case you didn't see in the paper and and for public's sake about our Baron Advanced Manufacturing and the kids that are moving on to the national competition. If you did see in the paper we had four of our students our BAM students competing in a robotics and automation technology event in Indianapolis a couple weeks ago. It was a pretty rigorous day. A lot of competition and the whole goal was to design a competition that that simulated real world experiences and challenges in the industry the world of industry. So, I have to say that DeKalb High School was very well represented.
>> Yeah. And and we don't forget we have a separate fund for health care. So, there that is something separate. So, if we were to have a high claim year and needed to to dip in, that's exactly what that is for. um you know if we have any kind of emergencies across the year um you know I I think I've said it a couple times you know we are budgeting kind of on a razor's edge for next year and but yet still trying to continue to recruit but being realistic in our approach about our ability to to fulfill everything you know that we want to do. So, you know, if we do come closer, we go over, um, that is there as a backup, but we're going to try to, you know, um, be as conservative as possible and monitor very tightly across each month so that we don't have to.
And uh like Dr. Dotson shared that it's been we've been getting feedback from our teachers from cabinet and going in classrooms are scoring better on the learning walk. Um so we were it was Teya's actually idea like how can we replicate that with our integrated instruction? So then she had the team the last couple months go and observe in there to see what supports the teachers need because um you're teaching let's say math or something but also you have students that are still learning English and so how do you support them in the classroom? So that's really been their focus on replicating what we did with the targeted to now doing that with integrated like how can we support our teachers that have our students in there that are trying to learn the content and the language at the same time. Yeah and I know I get to refer for the higher grades and I know that that's been a huge gap in the past especially when it comes to our middle school students.
Okay. Any more questions or comments for anyone? Uh yes. 7.14, how much was saved by eliminating the ELA portion of IXL? Um not as much as you would think, right? So, I think last year we paid about $53,000 for both subject areas, but the pricing models it's kind of like a your insurance agent, the more cars and your home that you have on there, the more discounts you get. So, we're only saving like at $15,000 by eliminating math, but believe me, I tried to get half off. Looks like you're thinking, Kristen. Do you have any more >> that was all I had. That was all I had. >> Okay. Anyone else have a question? All right then, I will entertain a motion to approve all items in the consent agenda as presented. So moved. Danielle motion by Danielle. Second. Second by Raquel. Cindy, will you please lead us in a roll call vote?
Thank you to Mr. Klingon our director and instructor. We had two teams one featuring Carrigan or excuse me Keegan Narrigan and Hunter Elkins and another featuring Jackson Colmyer and Jesse Klingon. And Keegan and Hunter earned an impressive second place finish. They demonstrated strong technical ability and teamwork. So, out of all of those competitive teams they came in second. And Jackson and Jesse achieved the top honors for the day in Indianapolis. They earned the title of state champions in robotics and automation technology. And we know that that is a you know, that's the the amazing impact our BAM programming and the robotics that we have in place and the equipment that that thanks to Jonathan we've been able to procure for that program has helped these students really learn what's going on in the real world. So, we want to congratulate all of these students and wish them the very best luck.
So, if that means we have to put little spending freezes in place from time to time, um, to do what we need to do to to balance, um, that's what we'll do. But, should we need it, we'd come back to the board and and we would have that discussion and and then that's what it would be there for. But I I would, you know, much rather leave it there for a true rainy day emergency um type situation. And you know, we could be heading into that, you know, or or not. You never know what what you depending on how things go with financing in the next couple of years with the state and title and the title grants. So the more that we don't have to touch it, the better. >> Okay. So, we're looking at maybe um expenses like uh capital expenses, unexpected capital expenses if we have an issue or something similar.
So I appreciate all the efforts in trying to fill in those gaps with the limited resources that we have. And President Correa I I really appreciate the encouragement cuz obviously you know we want to find those bright spots and replicate them. I think one of the things I'm hearing from the team too is that we also have to be cautious about like why is it different, right? So is it because it's two hours or is it because there's a difference in practices or is it that because maybe there isn't a difference in practices and the different models need different functional elements. So one of the things I really appreciate is that the team's not just you know saying we have three models oh look this one's performing better. They're actually dissecting the which is why they went back into the other types of classrooms to say okay they saw here what we can what can we learn that could help us improve instruction under the southern model, right?
