and that would make it very hard for the olympians to come back in the fourth quarter the east can get a stop here that would let them get momentum going into the last quarter of the ball game so coming up on 40 seconds here but a life it's a dibble so harmon he detects inside and lets the pass get away from him will be out of bounds turnover by the bulldogs that was a good look by harmon blythe was open in the corner but just couldn't quite deliver to him so north continuously stays in this press i don't blame him it's been given east problems all night as that's not a spot you want to be trapped in but he takes care of it and gives it to silva reekers back on top see if east can get a good shot here to get the momentum going into the four with points so hard to come by tonight a bucket in the last possession for easter would be a huge boost going into the last quarter almost a turn over there here we go five seconds and a turnover there by the o's he's throwing away possessions like that does not help their cause coach ferguson calls the timeout we'll stay on with only being a 30 second timeout what type of play call you think he's drawn up here he's got to go the length of the court with only 2.6 seconds here well 2.6 seconds is much more time than you would ever believe you can get a player such as horn going side to side on the court get some momentum build up and let him release it from half court you never know what will happen but 2.6 seconds is much more time than you would ever believe there we have it the jp analysis there by jacob pierce that's what i'm here for north basketball after the timeout to michaela brett harmon takes the ball out here four across here looks to set some screens and they're giving it to horn and through the hands and it's gonna be north basketball they tried to get that side-to-side action for horn but the pass was a little too long and good defense by the olympians still have 1.9 seconds to get a good shot and they're going to check in carson carson will you give it to horn or give it to the hot hand harmon jump pass one fires it up it's good and it goes through cooper horn 4-3 to in the third quarter man i can call you tony romo you called that one hey jimmies and joe's beats x's and o's there's not a whole lot you can do if you're the olympians about that shot that's just a great player making a great play at the end of the third quarter wow cooper horn got that off just in time watches it follow through and celebrates with his friends on the north student section that will end the third quarter 31-18 here in the orange [Applause] well we all caught our breath we are back here in orange pit after a big time shot to send it in to the fourth quarter by cooper horn that is his second made three-point shot in this game columbus north basketball to start the fourth quarter columbus made the buzzer-beater and they get the ball back to start the fourth that's a good thing if you're a bulldog fan here we go last final eight minutes in this crash down a rivalry the main event of the weekend red harmon excuse me luke harmon fires it away and no good been used to calling rhett harmon's name luke was the one that shot it and the offensive rebound goes to the bulldogs well north will be in no rush here to get offense going there's going to wait to get a great shot preferably by cooper horn here down the last seven and a half minutes to go even though the olympians are down the bulldogs come in averaging 55 points a game they're at 31 to start the fourth that's a positive fear in olympian fan yeah it sure is in a rivalry game like this it's common to see those field goal percentages down a little bit the players are nervous but here in the fourth quarter i think we'll see that field goal percentage go up as they're taking much higher quality shots once again there is no shot clock in high school basketball so if north wanted to they could hold it the rest of this six minutes and 55 seconds not being so boring basketball but gets them to for sure win gets it inside good pass didn't like what he's got and good pass but poked away and will be east basketball so the question you asked me in the jb game what are you doing if you're an olympian with 6 44 remaining and being down this much well the answer is simple you got to make some tough shots north's going to make it easy easier to get shots and penetrate the lane if you're east you just got to hope that the shots start falling from deep and you're able to cut this lead and on the same token on the other end you've got to hope north and start missing some good shots cut up on 6 20 here 31-18 our score [Applause] morvak back to daly reekers with the bad pass stolen by harmon reekers threw a right to him and harmon said thank you very much those passes across the lane lines are very hard to make especially against the team as athletic as columbus north and that's just one example of why those passes are so hard to make little coleman inside but no good and it looks like we're going to have sam king check in at the scores table and if you all of your viewers at home if you guys could please like and subscribe to the youtube channel we would greatly appreciate it and thanks to you guys we are the number one viewed youtube channel with all school corporations here in the state of indiana so thank you guys very much for all of your support and also a big shout out to forced construction for sponsoring these live streams sam king checks in for the bulldogs and number 40 pete corden and for the olympians 4 24 remaining here 31-18 is our score with sam king back in the game now it'll be easier for the bulldogs to generate offense inside the paint which is exactly what they want up 13 here bulldog basketball horn to king and they give it back to king so with these pick and rolls i will say something after the shot and that's his first miss that's rhett harmon carson nibble with the putback offensive rebounds you can't allow him if you're the east olympians in any point in the game especially not now when there's only so many possessions left to go in the game going back to my thought i see sam king setting a screen some of them he's rolling some of he's fading back what is he is he reading a defender on that or what's he looking at when he comes off these screens he could be reading the defender but also changing up whether you pick or pop makes it hard for a defense in general to know what you're going to do some pick and roll coverages are easier to guard rolls some they're easier to guard pops but changing it up makes it hard for defense to know what you're going to do so will reeker steps into a big time three there for the o's need more of those to try to cut in this lead the fans get up thought sam is going to shoot it he drives a nice layup for sam king 24 i believe that puts him in double figures here silva with the floater leaves it short tips it out and morvack gets the rebound good hustle play and reeker's inside and daley to silva across court to records can he go for two in a row and he does will reekers getting hot here late in the fourth those are the shots the olympians are going to need they want to get back in this game with only three and a half minutes to go a high majority of those shots have to go in if you want the olympians to win this ball game that was kept alive by an offensive rebound by zane morvak horn fires that jump shot again leaves it short falls on the hands of daly and he's still getting booed by the north student section silva looks to attack inside pulls it out back to reekers and timeout taken by coach shitty 308 remaining here 30 second timeout won't stay right here so east down still by double digits are you still trying to speed up your offense are you still going to run through it here well if you're the olympians you still have to run some offense but the shots you want change with only three minutes to go in the game usually you want to get high percentage shots inside the paint easy layups but against this north defense that's like asking the sun not to come up the next morning so you have to be able to move the ball get open three-point shots and hope guys like will reekers and ben silver are able to knock down shots here late in the game a good analogy there there jacob is good 308 remaining here east will have it on their end after coach city take a timeout coach city was talking to the ref for most of the time out so i don't know if he drew up a play or not maybe just to let fatigue kind of settle down here going in late in the fourth and they get it in to morvak here on the right wing well sometimes in a situation like this and you're playing such a stout defense sometimes sets are your worst enemy they make you play stagnant having the ball move around like that is the best way the olympians are going to get those open looks and just right there they can't knock it down will reekers had to look he wanted just couldn't get it to fall that would have got this place rocking and rolling here in orange but could not get it to fall good hands by daley will stay down on their end once again that pass just shows how hard it is to pass the ball across the lane lines once again another deflection in this ball game by passes going across the floor time out and north will take a timeout 238 remaining here will be a full timeout we'll take some time to catch our breath and be back shortly here in the orange pit [Music] this game is still not out of reach yet for the olympians a couple big stops and some shots to fall and they're right back in it with 238 remaining here and they get it in and weary are back here in the orange pit north looking to drain as much clock as they can grid play sam king gets it to fall [Applause] coming out of a set an easy look for sam king those are the looks you can't allow if you're columbus east right now let's see north has stayed in that defense all night long has not changed it one bit even coming out of a press they fall right into that 3-2 zone you see north maybe backing off the pressure just a little bit [Applause] that's i wonder if this is a defense north has ran quite a bit or something they put in just for this game oh it's something they usually run and an offensive foul this could be huge for the olympians looks like luke harmon picks up the foul 134 remaining here in close games sometimes extra possessions are what makes or breaks the game offensive fouls like that off the ball by luke harmon are just gifts for the olympians in this moment of the game and a costly turnover by the olympians north basketball getting down to crunch time here 1 30.

that's hacks inside up and under good lay-up ty ferguson if you're the olympians now the whole set goes out the window and you gotta play fast and furious and that turnover will not help their cause north is looking to put the icing on the cake here with this bucket if they can get one to fall you might start seeing columbus east use some of their fouls at five right now they need two to get north in the bonus i would expect the east to play very aggressive as they are right now and they foul there they got one more to give 48.8 seconds to go that was on numbers north gets it in um time out taken by columbus north so as coach shitty correction no foul to play time out columbus coach city tries to get his players ready tell them what to do with little time remaining here make sure to see what coach ferguson draws up jacob i gotta ask when down like this with a little bit of time what are you as a coach saying to your players well the main thing as a coach right now you got to keep your players in the game a lot of these young guys might have already chalked this up in the lost column if you're a coach it's not necessarily about x's and o's at this point it's about keeping your players in the game mentally and making make sure they understand there's still a chance in this ball game now is there a chance that's not for me to determine that's up for the coach to decide but if the coach still believes that he's got to get his players to believe it and it looks like they're going to try to foul here and they do a little hard push there to make sure the refs saw that one be one-on-one put tyler blythe at the line shooting one-on-one bonus tyler blind he's shooting a 101 for the longest neither team tonight saw a lot of time at the free-throw line which is uncommon especially for the north bulldogs as you see wife misses first shot there i'm anxious to see what north's about to start chanting here as time runs down well as this game wraps up credit to both sides credit to both student sections they brought the energy tonight north a little more because they had a little more to cheer about but credit to both sides it was very fun to see both these student sections come out tonight first time in a long time it's been able to be done and it was very exciting to watch both sides go at it tonight took the words right out of my mouth there jacob good job and that's it for sam king on the night a well-rounded basketball game for him and that will end his columbus north columbus easter rivalry streak here as a senior these games will remember forever win and losses and sam has won three straight against the olympians so he's gonna have a good memories as he grows old yeah he's certainly extended that street to three games he had himself quite a night especially since he didn't play most of it due to foul trouble a respectable 12 points in almost half the game and the shot is no good a long three by silva is in and out and that will do it here at columbus east high school they will shake hands and call it a night congratulations to your columbus north bulldogs if they win 39-26 jacob it was a pleasure doing both games with you tonight it was a blast to watch both these games it's always great to see these two space up on any sport it was a fun atmosphere it was great to watch good basketball well thank you guys for tuning in at home we want to give a big shout out to our sponsor once again forced construction for sponsoring this live stream congratulations to columbus north on a big win and we shall see you guys on the next stream have a good night and have a good weekend and merry christmas to all of you guys have a good one [Music] you

your stats of the first half cole sigler has three points carter kent three points carson mcnulty leads the panthers of jennings county with 11. owen law with three keegan manowitz with five justin ramey with six and jacob bogle with four for the pirates only four scores colin cummer and kai dyer both have eight and then addison barnes pettit and bradley lutz with two so 15 point deficit that the pirates have to crawl back from a lot of pressure so far from the jennings county panthers and so far for jennings county it's primarily been carson mcnulty who has pretty much been on fire from downtown almost more about taking away his air space and just getting up in his grill trying to just watched him here at uh shoot around here before the second half starts and he's he's shooting from the logo take away his air space getting his grill and force him to take some funky shots there with the 1-3 he did miss he was sort of falling back towards the pirate bench it was a quick release and almost landed in stacy meyer's lap he was falling back so hard i'm sure sean would have caught him uh he probably wouldn't let him slide if i know my own brother i think he'd have been slid over and pulled the old shack heading towards the bench so he's not a he's not a uh i wouldn't say he's a social fellow oh okay all right all right not one we like to describe it as a social butterfly okay um rick probably would have caught him i think yeah i think he makes sure he's safe looks like the pirates here uh really in the first half missing the presence of dakota walters and brendan stanley especially on the defensive side um those two pretty good defenders um nice to have them to be able to stop that three ball and we talked about it during the halftime break jacob vogel's been open every possession i mean six seven two fifty he sticks his hand up and he's wide open but jennings county falling in love with the three and the three is falling in love with them right back as the second half kicks underway you know it's interesting uh kyle i would think that uh we might try barnes pettit on him he's got a little bit more size a little more girth there and uh than lutz does but lutz is putting up a fight there on the inside it's a longer wingspan as well and carson mcnulty right where he left off another three for number 20.

the senior guard has been lights out all right pirates getting back into that patient offense moving the ball around the horn here cummer dishes it out to lutz shot fake and we'll reverse it right back you tell a lot of these guys just don't have the confidence here on the offensive end just looking for colin and kai to make some plays cover over the long wingspan that one no good and law will get the defensive rebound panthers looking to push and now pets matched up with vogel in a nice cut cut barnes pet it just a little bit late there sliding over could have had that one barnes pet it a little late and kai dyer fell asleep in the short corner and the panthers have doubled their lead and another turnover for the pirates county on the break here and easy too that's almost like law is expecting a bounce pass still corral that still finished it 6 40 left in the third quarter and another full time out from head coach stacey meyer doesn't seem too pleased with his team's performance pirates are the star of the panthers picking up right where they left off first half here just coming out on fire pirates slow to make some adjustments the panthers have done a nice job of making colin cummer get rid of the ball and kai dyer the primary offense so far both with eight points and just making the other three and jeter edwards addison barnes pettit and first time starter bradley lutz try and score on their own a lot of double teams a lot of pressure in the full court we saw a 2-1-2 full court pressure panthers done a heck of a job here on the road absolutely you can tell we're missing the presence of dakota walters on the offensive end dakota is a good offensive player and looks like we're kind of a player short there we got two guys trying to do most the offense and so we need some of these other guys to step up and gain some confidence and shoot some shots here and not a lot of depth with this pirates team either only five guys have played other than justin atkins who got a couple minutes there in the second quarter for addison barnes pettit but atkins wasn't on the floor that long it's a very quick breather for barnes pettit now the pirates looking to chip away here in the third quarter as kai dyer brings it up the floor down screens for the pirates hummer open on the left side lobs it up off the backboard no one there and miscommunication kyle a little miscommunication went for the nba street vol 2 pass that one did not end up in the hands of addison barnes pettit if you hit the wrong button the game breaker did not work mr mines the game breaker did not work and mcnulty bullying his way in for an easy lay-in apparently all he does all he does is score on the offensive end because that man is from three and two he has not missed mcnulty built like a fullback six foot 230 in the program and the pirates just looking to score once in this third quarter it's been a little over two minutes cummer looking to answer that one off the back iron and let's just skies over manowitz wow great rebound by bradley and that one a travel on pettit got a little one-on-one there and got a little antsy had the long two decided to drive and it's got a little happy feet 44-20 the score five and a half little over five and a half in the third quarter manowitz on the near side finds vogel vogel skips it over to kent kent on the line that one will not count stepped out of bounds before he hit the three but once again another three falls for the jennings county panthers good thing he was standing out of bounds there kyle and the pirates will take the possession and maybe a very scary lazaday school pass point guard kai dyer ball fake from pettit dyer from three that one is good and the pirates are on the board in the second half here kyle great angle from our side that one looked good as soon as it left kai dyer's hands and it's a 20 21 point deficit now some good defense jeter get out three ball manowitz got lucky and found mcnulty 4-3 nice dish there from colin komer barnes pet it with his own rebound and one stat sheet stuffer for pettit got the block got the rebound puts it right back up over vogel and shows a little emotion getting this pirate crowd juiced up [Music] vogels first and raymie will come in so mcnulty and vogel the two primary players before the panthers will take a breather up 19 pettit for the and one conversion no good but on the recently brought or on owen law starter kai dyer no good yeah and it looks like it will be a greensburg no no foul on barnes i thought it was going the other way it looked like they did change it pirates fans aren't happy i think barnes pettit went straight up for that rebound but uh good box out there as the refs are calling to clean box out looked like it was called on carter kent and then the ref near us said no we're going to take it the other way in jennings county will get the ball back there's a three ball another deep three and another long rebound got a box out can't give him multiple opportunities all over the place [Applause] three opportunities there on the offensive end for the panthers and they converted with an easy two double team comes no communication from the pirates it will stay with greensburg however with a 21-point deficit with just over four minutes in the third quarter comer surveys the floor will take it up to the top of the key horn set once again takes the screen from jeter edwards lutz receives we'll take it to the hoop foul call on the floor it'll be between owen law and carter kent however that's his second i'll tell you kyle in his first start bradley lutz is really uh performing pretty well tonight so he is out by the young man a whale of a job for his first start the sophomore he's calling coming for two and that's where colin comer has lived this game right in that volleyball line paint area getting easy lay-ins manowitz finds rainey he's not ready for it lutz with a dangerous outlet pass and cover there's the pete there's the pistol feet ball handling and one from barnes pettitte what a lovely fast break for the pirates colin cummer just broke that uh one man all the way one man fast break and hit barnes pettit for the easy deuce it was a nice job by colin cummer just maneuvering his way through the jennings county crowd i'll tell you kyle that started on the defensive end for colin he made a very nice recovery here and stopped the give-and-go for the panthers and led to that and one there for barnes cut it pirates almost looked like they were gonna go into man-to-man pressure here but they'll lay off and lutz is hounding carter kent he'll give it up to mcnulty who checks back in pirates seem to be switching about everything here kyle as we mentioned uh a lot of the same bodies out there for the pirates giving up some size tonight so switching everything and staying in front of their guys no subs yet in this third quarter looks like a little iso action nice slip by raymie law on the pull-up jay long two off the iron and a nice rebound by addison barnes pettit peter edwards looking to run the break say that hurt my shoulder just watched him grab that rebound looking like an ac joint right there edward swings it over to barnes pettit who's giving the pirates a little bit of life on two and one attempts bringing this lead back down to 16.

showing some more patience here even down 16. good working the ball around the perimeter dyer spins dishes to barnes pettit that's a three that one no good but dyer's waiting for it there we go that land rolls around dyer almost gets the offensive rebound but mcnulty will pick it up for the panthers just over 210 in the third quarter pirates down 16. the panthers look to slow down a little bit ziggler gets the handoff double team comes no communication cummer on the fast break he'll throw it down just for continuation kicks and giggles that is not the nba and it is not a continuation mcnulty with a very smart foul as cummer went to start the fast break how many dunks you have in your career kyle same as me i have one state wreck oh okay well that was feeling good that day and my buddy dennis collier threw me an outlet pass he doesn't remember it but i do because that was the only one i ever had nice circus shot rolls in and now down 14 just under two and this pirates crowd getting a little juiced up making a nice little comeback here in the latter part of the third quarter here kyle nice smart timeout by josh land things getting a little dicey towards the end of this third quarter it is a 14-point ball game but most of the momentum swinging the pirates way bryce yeah they uh they're coming up with some defensive stops getting out fast break and that's how we're getting our offense like you said a couple and ones there from barnes pettit converted one of them just uh really really getting done in transition here quick 30-second time-out for the panthers josh land drawing up some plays hauser grad probably learned from bob nobby who's a greensburg grad full circle here kyle full circle wow coach moore over here kevin bacon reference from coach moore running the board for us was it five five degrees to kevin bacon six degrees that's my bad that's my bad six degrees kevin bacon well we just got two degrees back to greensburg high school via bob navi nothing like coal thank god yeah yeah all-time leading i believe all-time leading uh wins in the hauser program history so shout out bob navi pirates show a little pressure it's split up by manowitz law from downtown that one off the iron back iron and greenberg once again chipping away ziggler looking to check in for the panthers dyer brings it up for the pirates back cut by cummer nice pass fake by barnes pettit excellent take to the rim and finishes through the contact only a 12-point ball game the play seems to be working for him kyle get the ball to barnes pet at the high post and let him work off of him carter kent screaming for a little bit of help jeter edwards there a little late a little late good board by barnes pettit colin cumber running the break behind lutz back out to just off the mark two pirates fought for the rebound we got adkins in the game there kyle adkins came in for lutz give lutz a little breather uh turn over there by the pirates panthers ball barnes pet it and jeter edwards had the rebound in both their hands just a little miscommunication pirates only down 12 though just under a minute and the panthers will use up another timeout little pressure from the pirates getting the panthers a little nervous in the full court pressure gonna be another 30-second timeout here for the panthers try to set up here uh a little offense here with one minute left in the third quarter up 12 on the pirates so what that three would have been very nice from kai dyer if that falls a little nine point ball game heading into the third quarter all the momentum swinging the pirates way absolutely absolutely we're playing right now just a matter of time we could be right in this game and you have to think these timeouts i know they sort of warrant or granted to the panthers doing a nice job just trying to draw up plays but it has to help the pirates too they have only played six guys and atkins hasn't seen the floor a whole lot tonight but yeah they're basically playing five guys and you get these nice two quick timeouts that has to help the pirates yeah a little breather there and they're stamina yeah little breather get the full stamina here for the last minute of the third quarter play hard here finish off the quarter pirates fans looking for a hook that is owen law in the corner and that one will quiet the pirates crowd and will stop the greensburg run 15 point ball game just over 40 seconds left in the third quarter handoff to atkins back over to cummer dyer nice jab step takes it in just off the rim and that one is a blocking foul on mcnulty dyer will shoot two with 32 32.3 in the third bradley lutz coming back into the game looks like he might give uh possibly barnes pettit a breather here give him a little extended time here at the end of the third quarter i tell you what kyle the pirates are being patient but they are attacking on the offensive end not settling for threes getting to the back into the bucket uh chipping in this lead here a little bit the threes aren't rushed they're open threes that they've taken and kai dyer's hit a few just off the mark on that last one but a nice job like you said attacking the rim being patient as dyer goes one of two and the score now 49-35 in favor of the jennings county panthers mana wins flows right by cummer easy easy bucket for the 6-7 senior jacob vogel 51-35 now cummer has the ball 14 seconds left and we're just going to back it out got about 10 under 10 here take his man one on one try to create some offense nice rebound there from adkins and a tip by the way by jeter edwards the 1-4 low doesn't work for jeter edwards tried to skid over carter kent but once again it's been justin atkins and bradley lutz picking up a little momentum for the pirates keeping the play alive and jeter edwards nice tip in to end the half as the panthers lead 51-37 going into the fourth we'll take a minute away here we'll be back for the fourth quarter pirates down 14.

i thought we were going to see a dunk there i think he lost his footing he might just be too big to dunk it that could be a little bit too much meat on his bones pirates still moving around the perimeter not attacking like they were there at the middle part of the third quarter dyer drives baseline nice shot fake by jeter edwards that one no good in vogel with a vicious blockout on justin atkins just got the size advantage tonight another easy bucket from vogel and another timeout for stacey meyer pirates showing a little frustration there on the defensive end two two very easy buckets for the pir for the panthers as they extend their lead to 22 with under five to go well kyle 22 point game 4 56 left what the pirates need to do i would presumably pick up the pressure a little bit i know you have only five guys that you've been basically playing justin atkins has been in here with a little three-man rotation with addison barnes pettit and uh bradley lutz but the pressure's got to pick up and you gotta at least force jennings county to either turn it over enforcement into some bad shots you know they tried the uh man-to-man press for a little bit and it did work towards the end of that third quarter and brought it back down to i believe 13 or 14.

2021-12-18 Decatur County, IN YouTube / GTV Pirates transcript source: youtube Greensburg Basketball vs Jennings County · passage 14
i think that's the closest the game got in that that 20-point stretch but jennings county has been just run gun and launch it from downtown the entire game and they've been hitting the majority of their shots much credit to josh land and his crew they've done an excellent job so far here on the road absolutely greensburg not an easy place to play and they've done a bang-up job doing it if you had to draw up a game plan threes and easy twos that's the way to get it done and that's what jennings county has done tonight and like you've mentioned too not having your two main big boys in dakota walters and brennan stanley and then have to deal with six six and six seven doesn't necessarily help for the pirates absolutely cummer on the spin inside of the paint barnes pettit nice shot fake dyer waiting in the corner that one is up just off the mark jeter edwards has been hounding the offensive glass can't corral it ziggler just a bit wide for the or maybe is it it's not nicely done by the panthers but jeter edge does come away with it nice hustle by owen law keeping the play alive running into these bleachers that are very close i didn't think you had anything to the baseline i didn't think he was going to come close to that ball but a nice job of tracking it down at least keeping it alive but that warrants a foul on justin raimi that's his second and jennings county's sixth so one more foul the pirates will be in the one-and-one a little cluttered up in the corner we'll bring it right back out to colin commerce step back three for cummer that one off the mark and owen law flies in for the defensive rebound just about four minutes to go here in the game panthers still nursing a 22-point advantage over here over the pirates for a foul out front on justin atkins jennings county has done a wonderful job of getting their big switched out on some guards we've seen a couple wave offs looking for some isos when the guards get switched up on the bigs they've done a terrific job of getting to the bucket another foul out front on the pirates a little hand check from colin cummer maybe a couple of words exchanged too with cole sigler as well well kyle if the pirates can't close the gap i know it's been a six-man rotation so far but we might see the end of the bench here before the end of the game maybe fan favorite shiv patel i know we talked to him before the game crowd loves them absolutely adore the kids also jv legend abe hebby better suited on the golf course and on the tennis court he did he did tell me earlier that they were gonna call his name a lot and i was kind of skeptical on that right was he talking the jv game that's what i that was my answer i asked if it was the jv game talking jv back to the game action offensive foul on jennings county greensburg will retain possession just over three minutes left in the ball game and the panthers will sit manowitz and zigler dyer brings it up the floor i don't have much time to be patient now kyle i'm going to move the ball in the offensive end score some buckets quick buckets here there's one by colin keller nice crossover by dyer and dish to colin cummer just squeezes underneath the bottom of the backboard 20 point ball game that one air mailed by the panthers mcnulty puts his hand on his chest says my bad and there's zero room for error the last two minutes and 55 seconds for the pirates got a score and got a score quick as dyer brings up the court dyer from three that one off the back iron looked good when it came off his hand jennings county another rebound they're gonna slow it up now take their time on the offensive end use some clock mcnulty with barnes pettit on him waving everyone off just looking to run around and use up some clock addison doing a heck of a job staying with him nice switch communication law gets to the rim with ease no help side and that one about as easy as it gets for jennings county watching coach land over here for the panthers looks like he's going to the end of the bench getting ready to get the starters out and kyle this is not a good scene for the pirates already down two starters and colin cummer is having a hard time getting up no it is not and especially you have four jv guys waiting to come in and it looked like not necessarily sure who was guarding him there but it looked like they got in to that landing area and it appeared he stepped on a foot all right so uh coach meyer empties the end of the bench here in for the pirates along with bradley lutz and justin atkins we've got abe tevi granger maxwell and jack mckenzie freshman getting some varsity minutes jv team ended up with a two-point victory got close there at the end 51-49 called ringney and his boys pick up the w here at home and now he gets to see him get some varsity action minute and a half left jennings county looking to dribble out the clock kyle the pirates will be back in action tomorrow night uh hopefully colin kummer is okay to play and like we mentioned at the beginning of the broadcast uh looks like dakota walters might be okay to play tomorrow night as well definitely would help out the pirates on the offensive end a little update on colin he seems to be walking around didn't hasn't necessarily sat down just seems to be trying to shake out the leg does seem very frustrated however foul out front on jack mckenzie in the stat sheet [Music] that is greensburg's sixth team foul of the second half so one more ends up being a one and one and it looks like jennings county will now empty the bench as well so zane zorlout comes in matt hines lane sewer skyler lewis and carter kent who's done a heck of a job only a freshman in his minute so far great game got a bright future in front of him mckenzie looking over and back put his hands up trying to stay away from another hand check it looked like over the back so 64-42 is the score jennings county leads 40 seconds left in the ball game kyle i know we mentioned the varsity boys back in action tomorrow night uh gtv will be live streaming the varsity girls game at three o'clock tomorrow so make sure you tune in check out the greensburg girls uh tomorrow at three o'clock we've got south ripley coming in for that game young squad for coach simpson and the greensburg lady pirates remember when i was a senior it was literally it's been a been a little bit a little bit different with uh having eight seniors on that state runner-up team and now having a very young squad nowadays uh yeah i talked to coach simpson the other day and uh yeah they're young but he's hopeful got a bright future in front of him and we'll see him in action at 3 o'clock looks like the final score here tonight is going to be jennings county 64.

greensburg 42 uh not the pirates knights 64. 64-42 like you said pirates fall way short with two guys out in jennings county hit about everything from downtown carson mcnulty did a fine job that first half with 11 points an all-around team effort however for the panthers doing a wonderful job of just running the floor getting to the rim driving in the basket when it was wasn't open with the rim you kick it out to the perimeter they knocked down pretty much everything they did that they did threes and easy twos for the pirates tonight colin cummer and kai dyer both with 14 points uh addison barnes pettit with seven jeter edwards five points all of his coming in the second half and bradley lutz getting getting on the scoresheet with two points some early free throws in this one again uh jennings county 64 greensburg 42 back in action tomorrow night kyle and that'll just about do it for us here at greensburg community high school the final score jennings county 64.

sorry i was working on something okay puppy [ __ ] and pill nolan present dinar rabe here orman here we get a motion in a second to approve tonight's agenda so motion second and we've got one person watching from home wow big day that's me i'm walking nolan yes yes ray yes gorman yes uh please join us in reciting the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the plan of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice problem thanks to everybody the weathering came out at christmas week and for those watching at home dr stern here we have director polloway and director porto with us uh director pauline will present on the 10-year life hall safety plan and mobile installation update and pam portal will give us information on the upcoming bus bid we don't have any public comment this evening so we'll move into action reports i need a motion second to discuss and approve the consent agenda second your revenue and expenditure reports are in the board packet revenues are currently at 35.58 compared to 43.41 a year ago expenditures are currently at 32.87 percent compared to 34.78 a year ago this month we received impact piece for 142 206.89 for 24 home starts and then our transition fees came in at 2095 dollars and two cents bills payable reports for the month of december are typical there's um two bond payments one debt certificate payment in there for a total of 1.949 million this month our auditors have completed central's audit there was no changes since the last month's presentation and they've been filed with the counties there are we nesbi [Applause] central was also approved for the school maintenance project grant for 50 000 that we applied for we got official word that we um we did or were going to receive it and that was to purchase the generator for the critical systems at lilly lake and then later tonight on the agenda we're going to approve on the 2021 tax levy we're requesting 47 million 765 dollars we only anticipate uh receiving about 47 million 84 000 our debt service payments um are going to be 8.2 million dollars and then the with the increase in the av and new construction coming in higher we anticipate our tax rate school tax rate to be 6.62 cents which is a decrease of almost 13 cents from last year excellent questions yes yes next we need a motion second to discuss and improve that estimated amount uh necessary for the levy this year so moved second so no changes from last month everything is still the same we're anticipating eav to come in at 836 million 60 000 in new construction to be estimated at 15 million and if those two hold true then that's where we anticipate our tax rate for the school to be to drop from 6.75 to 6.62 after tonight's meeting i'll deliver all the signed and sealed reports the resolution truth and taxation certificates um the deadline is next tuesday so we'll definitely make it by then [Applause] second to approve the three veterinary affiliation agreements so move second so um as we bring forth every month we obviously are continuing to work with our partners to make sure we get those hundred hours that are required for our students in the externship for the veterinary program we're able to pick up three uh clinics this month the animal clinic of randall point an animal eye clinic out of elgin and then army trail animal hospital uh to assist us in trying to get those experiences done we have lost a few this year just due to covert 19 and them not wanting students there so any partner we could make this year to get those hundred dollars and is greatly appreciated any questions for me yes nolan yes and gorman yes all right motion second to discuss and approve the 10-year life health safety plan second [Music] director paulo is here for this good evening um we are presenting tonight the final draft of our 10-year health life safety survey that we're required to do for the you should have the synopsis sheet of we contracted with larsen and darby our architectural firm to put this plan together for us country trails and prairie gnolls were due actually a year ago but we decided to put all our other buildings were scattered throughout over the next three years so we decided to just go through and do all the buildings it was fiscally responsible to do them all in one blush versus doing them you know multiple times the next few years so we did all the buildings get them all on the same schedule the purpose of this document goes hand in hand with the capital projects plan that we presented roughly eight years ago a lot of these items are listed in that plan and we already have been crossing things off the list over the last seven or eight years this highlights um some needs based on code changes based on different things in an urgent category required and recommended the urgent items have to be done within a year and those would be immediate hazards safety fire protection structural the required items we have to do within five years and those are necessary for life safety but they're not as immediate of a hazard and then the recommended are not required they're not a hazard but they're just recommendations from the architect typical like playground improvements parking lots um things like that uh energy conservation items so they put this plan together we met as a group reviewed the document that the architect shared agreed with the assessment and then we're going to start developing a plan i'll work with dana to budget money to try to start chunking things off the urgent list starting next summer the full documents pretty thick and cumbersome and things i think the financial pieces are the important pieces if you have any questions about any of that i think i'd just like to say i think you're to be commended and dana as business manager and the board for always making sure that every year we include in our budget capital projects and that we maintain things that aren't always visible like roofs and that we have plans in place for for replacement and and maintenance of our asphalt our roofs and and those other things and i think that speaks to it when you think over a 10-year period um you're looking at approximately three million dollars so appreciate that yeah probably in the next year we'll up i'll update the board on that capital projects plan that book i've been keeping up with it we've knocked a lot of things off the list so that book looks drastically different than it did when we first presented it so this is a new plan though like correct new numbers not that have been correct yeah these are numbers as of today's dollars where the last plan we had to you know incrementally three to five percent every year depending on the the items so this is the current dollars this is for our present to the next through the next 10 years based on current dollars every year there'll be the three to five percent escalation but yeah these are current dollars as of today correct thanks any other questions and it's like a moving target too because it's new things will keep coming sure yeah over the years it's not like this is just it and we're done so that'd be nice yeah yes it would excellent thanks david ready yeah rabe yes nolan yes dinner yes and government yes i'll move on to information items first okay so for the enrollment report is included in your board packet and just like last month we're running a three-year trend based on the month so you can see where we're at uh last year we did take a little dip in our overall district enrollment two years ago at this time we were four thousand four hundred and fifty seven students last year we were four thousand three hundred and seventy eight and as we sit right now we're at four thousand six hundred and eighty three students which is an increase of 300 from this point last year and 200 and some over the previous year so with our housing starts as we saw in our financial report we continue to be a rapid growth district all right next george following he's so our first big project of the year the mobiles at all the elementary schools is progressing uh country trails is 100 installed so working on skirting and getting that going we anticipate um howard b thomas will be the next one to be installed all that equipment's been delivered lily lake and pv are on the road as we speak a little snafu with wind and travel and stuff over the end of last week so that kind of put us a little behind we have all intents of having all those units installed by january 1.

we're about to cry again because it is very um overwhelming to be able to be together in a good way overwhelming i'm thrilled i couldn't be happier um that we're we can find a way to make it and i'm gonna hope that you feel safe here we did our best to distance everyone as much as we can but the kids have been working so hard and they deserve the opportunity to perform you all deserve the opportunity to hear these talented musicians working really really hard we're so proud of them proud of our incredible teachers um mrs clegel mr campbell who's our general music teacher but here tonight to a company on the on the piano and who have worked so hard under tremendous challenges and obstacles that we've had um you know in the music field in particular with instruments and spacing distancing and singing of course the music class but we're making our way and despite all of these obstacles we are here tonight to welcome you back into our school and i hope that you enjoy this incredible band and orchestra concert for our sixth graders um before we begin i would like for you to rise for the national fandom that will be played at small my uh [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] me [Music] me [Applause] one of the things that we do in sixth grade is starts with the challenges of three four plant signature and so this round is improved full time please enjoy uh [Music] great [Music] me [Music] this [Music] [Applause] all right thank you you're going to see us kind of running back and forth tonight so welcome to i'm walking on the dirt road especially in the last few months to get ready for this uh we are rehearsing outside for much of the fall until november first we are still outside and then the last few weeks of insight and you've really had a great time so here's our first peaceful lunch okay wow oh so eli is securing the bass drum so invisible across the floor okay uh [Music] oh [Music] so [Applause] okay this next series [Music] um [Music] uh [Music] is [Music] [Applause] you [Applause] all right the next song we have for you is the title thanksgiving song and we've been working on this prior to thanksgiving and then afterwards they're like wait we're still friends yes we're still playing this for our concert even though it's past thanksgiving so happy thanksgiving this is [Music] my [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] somewhat like so we hope you like our arrangements [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] okay and the second time will be some of our players oh [Music] ah [Music] oh [Music] be [Music] me [Applause] thank you [Music] um because i when i pick music i typically try to pick something that's you know that you know will highlight certain groups and it'll challenge certain groups and then there are students who ask for extra challenges we have two solos for tonight the first of which is and he gave this song all on his own and asked if he could play tonight for you so here's [Music] thank you [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] and then we are sneaking in a little song here uh we did not know that we were the band in the orchestra we're actually working on the same song so we're going to play two different paragraphs for you um you see jolly old say nicholas so we would like to point out uh we'd like to do one version our version of hey [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] now you can hear our little prospect do that [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] all right the next uh song was actually a challenge song that i presented to those who want to play we all learned that those who call harmful planet are playing according to us and select players and we are fine okay foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] please [Music] [Applause] and it's going to be featuring leo on bells right here so we hope you liked christmas [Music] ready [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] okay next up is bells now you might think about another music as well um it's a very difficult thing for sixth graders and some of our clinical players are doing what's called playing with the brain and this one is extending high notes so i think you're going to like this arrangement of their jingle bells [Music] and [Music] me [Music] no [Music] me [Music] [Applause] all right and we have another holiday song for you that we've been working on for a little while um yeah so this song is actually the fifth grade song that we brought back to see how much we've grown so last year at this time um and my current fifth graders right now i'm struggling with it a little bit um they do this song fluffy and twice that slow and this year we went back and we revisited and we are now going to almost raise this house exactly with the bow so this is [Music] here [Music] right [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] um this nice piece i gave this out to the group the day after their spring concerts so we started thinking about our future this year after that concert and this is the first piece he tried to play um for a little while but you're going to hear how far they come and you've had a great time [Music] uh [Music] two [Music] uh [Music] wow [Music] this [Music] [Applause] this is a student that comes to me almost um every week saying i heard a song so i went and i learned it and she just comes and plays it so this is the song she chose to play for us tonight [Music] foreign [Music] me [Music] me [Music] baby [Music] foreign [Applause] they've worked really hard on this that's an ensemble it's very difficult because there are many parts going on at the same time and as you're spread apart this star they're challenged in terms of their listening to each other so persist confirmation does feature our percussion section as you know there are one on this part back there and there's there's a lot to do and we do have a guest in the band as you notice in the program the guest performer is so this is it for her and she has not rehearsed with us yet because every time she tries to get to my room something comes up so this is her rehearsal and performance online so we wish her well and i know she's gonna nail it because that's what she does here at school no matter what happens so we invite you to um whether she does really well or not it's a big round of applause so that we can go out with them okay the christmas proclamation is one of our favorites and you're going to love it [Music] ah [Music] my [Music] my [Music] wow [Music] two [Music] so okay to school because of maybe you you supporting your children practicing and playing their music so we appreciate that so let's first [Applause] um um we have great secretaries at school i know that um somebody who brought instruments that were forgot at home we brought them in the morning so that you could have lessons we appreciate our secretary mrs gerard and one extremely special person who um through some miscommunication didn't realize there was a concert tonight so mr josh changed his struggle it's happening this evening so that he could be here and help us set up for this so thank you mr valentino [Applause] mr campbell is really amazing at preparing them to play issues teaching you about them teaching them to sing in tune teaching them to read rhythms and to keep a steady beat and to be able to do all that at the same time [Applause] youtube video so that i'll send it out to the staff so that they want to miss me and maybe they would like to copy just let me know and my son out of this video take me tonight [Applause] [Music] oh yeah we do have some special guests here i know that um one of my problems in doolittle school is here tonight helping to get music stands when i forgot one and to also just chaperone everybody with all of our distancing that's in place and that's this is jacqueline barr people do little school [Applause] and also you might see a big sixth letter playing in the trumpet section he's not a sixth grade he is a senior in college and he's a professional trumpet player as well as on his way to becoming a tremendous music educator he was my student teacher from august through the middle of october talk to students a lot and we're thrilled that he came back and played with us tonight thank you and with that i believe the orchestra has the last tune of the evening tonight thank you so much for being here thank you for allowing us to play for you to be in this space and we hope that in the spring um we can do this again and possibly be outside we'll see how it goes so um i think that's just the way of the world these days we'll see how it goes so with that uh thank you have a great quality season [Applause] one that we really love um we look forward to playing at every ensemble period and we sometimes just refer to it as you because that's what i wrote because it was the term we were gonna play um so we would like to play we wish you a merry christmas and happy holiday season hmm [Music] um [Music] [Applause] just to talk about this missile how we're going to get students out and with you again uh band members consumers are going to go downstairs to bring their instruments down to their cases and they're going to come back up here and i think [Music] if

that's what our vendor's telling us working with the architects on on other plans and other project work and i'll update the board as we you know move forward on that just trying to make sure again like dr stern said stay ahead of of all the things all the needs and stuff instead of making them emergencies trying to be ahead so i'll have another update next month is this all the fifth grade classes that'll be no not all fifth grade for this year we're going to make a move to make some room for the ones that are already displaced so we have some teachers that are currently on a cart don't have rooms trying to spread out a little bit uh hpt is looking to move pb is looking to move no classrooms at all hbt has two or three teachers removing lake has two teachers and ct has two or three uh teachers who will be shifting to give us some room we need to take up the lunch room at ct as a problem uh it's over capacity at this point in time so we need to move some of those kids into a classroom uh for a couple of sections so opening up that classroom will allow us to do that there's a separate lunch location just like the whole this is a separate lunch they'll be in a classroom yep for now until we can get the the add on this summer so i guess yeah speaking of that that is a the other project that's out to bid now is the the bump out of the ct and pk uh cafeterias so we'll be opening those bids in january and presenting those and what the goal be to have those open by august yes yes by the start of school yeah just because of the nature of what they are they should be yeah well more feasibly able to happen quickly and the nice thing is a lot of that will break ground before school even gets out we'll build the outside structure and then once school's out yeah it'll be a perfect project to get started right away so we should have a lot of a lot of competitive bids for that good deal um do we anticipate realigning all classrooms assuming that the fifth grade classrooms we will have mobiles for at least after this year two maybe three years depending on what happens with a referendum and whatever it is that we recommend to get them sectioned again because there's a loan kindergarten in the first grade down the fourth and fifth grade hallway you know like yeah will will are people aware that like we may be like turning some things on their heads or are we going to be okay with the orphan kindergarten hallway down you know down here in the third grade in the middle of nowhere when third grades all the way around the other like at hbt for instance i think our goal is always to try to put grain levels together for the purpose of collaboration so i'm guessing that we'll be making some shifts some spring times there'll be some shifting to make sure that we have those grade levels together yep [Music] public comment has passed i'm sorry but if you if you want to call i mean we can talk on the phone tomorrow or whatever i'll give you my information and just based on obviously i only know hbt's current classroom allocation is that something that would likely happen at ct and pv as well just based on again how you've had these orphan classrooms or pvc and i'm not quite sure how she's dispersed on my we've got people in like small what are called very small offices almost like a closet in some cases so she'll redistribute those but try to make sure they're putting great bands together always the other issue will be size of classroom though especially when you look at an early childhood or kindergarten classroom right we really need larger classrooms for those types of centers so to make sure that we have a classroom that's large enough for them to have the space we can really be looking at reassigning some goals look at all that once we've shipped i know the teachers that are going have been talked to the fifth grade teachers and it's a matter of trying to figure out how to accomplish the move we were hoping to get over winter break that's not going to happen so we're trying to consider maybe getting a sub for the one day to let them at least move into the building and get things organized while a sub is teaching in their classroom um we'll have to keep the desk there and move dust at the middle of it either over the weekend like a friday or something to try to figure out how to get the dust into the the units but they want time to at least get organized within their building so all right next we have the bus bid for next year for 22 to 23.

uh director porto's here for any questions hello um this is upcoming school year is our smaller recycle of buses we're looking at approximately 20 buses for the upcoming school year i would assume that we'd have them out for formal bid in january just like we've done in years past and look for maybe board approval at the january board meeting so we can you know make sure that we have them available in july the only difference is this year is i was looking at possibly leasing some larger capacity buses we're going to maybe look at 583 passenger buses it might help out in some of our tight areas over like uh heavy growth areas like in some sub subdivisions where the kids aren't on the buses really long and it would help with the driver shortage as well so um that's really the only like big change that i could see and i think that would kind of benefit just with the driver shortage right now i don't see that changing much so instead of a 72 it'd be an 88 72 would give us nine more seats but if we have five buses that's one that's one driver so that would help so basically the providence corridor and then west point which is now extremely dense obviously mcdonald road we got that new subdivision over mcdonald road i mean we got some heavy how many k5s do we have in there is that a whole bus or over one bus on mcdonald road it's a half a bus but foes creek um oh yeah it's a bus and a half and that is a tight section over off of corn road hampton road uh pampton over there alberta by the pig farm um that is uh three stops a bus and a half or three cents so those are heavily populated areas so so that's a west at um right at the train tracks right that's by the train track and boats road yeah cedar grove that is not that yeah so there's like cheese yeah that's very cute yeah i can't even imagine yeah bus 35 it's heavily populated yeah it's right over corn road dead ends into bose road yeah the pig farm she's talking about you have saddle brook on one side of coronado cedar grove and i would first see like mcdonald's road i would think that that's going to be just like that in two to three years because that's those townhomes too same kind of subdivision so that's really the only change that i could see for the upcoming school year i think that might benefit us thank you so much all right merry christmas all right the last place for information is the school calendar for 22-23 so um including your board packet is a draft calendar and worked off of looking at our our districts to the north that make up the fox valley athletic conference and then looking to our districts in the south that are part of the mid valley special education cooperative tried to blend those and make it work one of the things that we're looking to do and there's some schools to the south of us that are starting a little earlier uh but we since we started so early this year we wanted to push back uh the start of the school year to that to that third week of august which is our traditional start week for the school year so we would have teachers returning for teacher institute days on thursday and friday and then students would begin on monday the 16th then we try to keep school students in session without many disruptions in september august to get the school uh classroom structure and stuff in place along with construction and the first quarter ends on friday the 14th of october and then we moved parent-teacher conferences earlier last year the board wanted parent-teacher conferences moved earlier they seem to have worked out well so we maintain those and then we put in what we used to have for professional development pre-covered half day followed by a full day of professional development and talking about with the administrative team it kind of seems like we could be using those times for reflection on our data on how we're doing well with the students interventions etc along with our work with byoc and otis then in november uh the eighth is a holiday uh because of the election day in the state of illinois and then we have the winner we have the second quarter ending um on december 21st and you notice winter break uh looks a little bit different in this proposed draft calendar compared to previous calendars previous calendars it would have begun on the 20th and then ended on the 30th and then returning early when we were looking at other other districts around us especially with the fox valley athletic conference they were following more of this for the winter break as well some of the districts to the south of us so in looking at this that it made sense to split it up where students would attend through wednesday begin the winter break and then have the two weeks and a couple extra days then coming back from the winter break again we're proposing the half day followed by the full day again to be looking at our trends what's happening with our data what we need to do with interventions and tweaking moving forward then february is presidents day that friday march 3rd is the king county institute day third quarter ends on the 17th of march and then we have um parent-teacher conferences where they would go a full day students would be full day on the 23rd followed by a half day on the 24th and then there would be the spring break then we would look um again for that half day on the sixth friday is a non-attendance day and then that would bring us up through the end of the year where students last day would be friday may 26th uh with a teacher institute day on the 30th and then our five emergency days added my only questions would be the day and a half like after christmas break seems you know i mean three crazy days on two two and a half days off after two and a half weeks off right right i mean you almost have a month where you're going to school three days the back-to-back october weekends make no sense either and even april after spring break it's the same thing it's like you're off for we had those dates at different times to break it up and the reason why we ended up moving it to this point bring it to the board is we wanted the conversations to be timely related to the student data coming out of the quarters and then examining that data on those days and then tweaking what what our practices are with interventions we couldn't move it a week though just so that we have teachers have time to get their report cards done i mean so for me i'm thinking what if we look at moving the 27th and 28th a week later the third and fourth to the third and fourth of november yes and then the same thing in january we could get to the 19th and 20th i then we only then we do have then we have mlk on that monday as well the 16th so that's a super short week then you you i like the idea of making a long long weekend like a four day weekend but it's right after we get back we can move into the 17th and 18th we usually do it thursday friday but we could do it tuesday wednesday and then it's extended for parents but teachers would come back with well if it's a half day you couldn't take that back yeah you have to master jobs i mean you'd have to do almost yeah that doesn't make sense to have a teacher day in the 17th and a half days teacher day on the 17th and just not do the half day on the 12th i mean moving from friday to tuesday i don't think does very much it's still a long weekend just to start you know wow the next week yeah you get a full week which i do appreciate yeah you could have a full week if you launched a half day on the 12th and you wanted a full day you could have the full day on the 17th right and then get a full weekend and get a full weekend ready for the park i'm thinking about our k2 kids we're gonna have two and a half weeks off they're the orphaned three days and the week in december which again you know they're gonna try to do their best but kids are gonna be antsy let's be honest right those three days we're gonna have two and a half weeks off and then three and a half days of school hey kids let's get a routine just kidding not quite yet that's my that would be my biggest concern for those youngest kids of trying to get into some sort of swing of things so i just think having any period of time we have those two weekends um back to back my concern look at april we have seven full weeks of school that this year our longest is four weeks we have seven weeks of non-stop teaching from april early april to the end of the beginning of the year this year um we had we never had a school and service day the first semester and they wanted the teachers wanted to do what a long stretch because it's the same thing here the first semester there's only the 27th and 28th then there's that same stretch january to february there like you're talking not as long as so the longest the longest that we yeah the longest we went was after labor day and it was like 20 22 or 23 days through the end of the quarter october 8th this year and then we had that monday off for columbus day um seven weeks is a long time so i understand that the rationale behind saying we wanted it timely especially under the quarters i get that but is there a way especially for flipping after third quarter data if we're going to say do we push that later in the school year to not necessarily shift fourth quarter which in my non-educator head is going to say hey we have three quarters do we make that more of like a wrap up at the end of the year not maybe three weeks before the end of the school year so instead of having it so close to the end of the third quarter we make that let's aggregate let's troubleshoot the year and how can we kind of set a plan during the school year to see like how we propel forward what did we learn from this year just a different perspective on that last day and a half just something that i'd be interested for you guys to talk about with your teams instead of having attached the three one and a half days and back to half days all after first second and third quarter pushing it later like the 27th 28th so it's just something so we break up that period of time and again we pull away these long weeks and then a weekend long weekend and weeks on a long weekend we did that in the past where it was the end of april and we also did the first weekend in may in the past as well through the last of the last week in april at the end of the week or the first week it just gets really hairy because all of our assessments are due in april may you have ap exams that are indicated to us you have all of your state assessments that are due to you to us so a lot of i mean that time is taken up with assessments 20th and 21st i mean just having it right after we get back from spring break just seems like again a waste of we have kids coming back that they're going to be squirrely i'd rather get as many days in a row to get kids back into a team before having a three and a half hour four and a half day three and a half day weekend an extra day and a half we'll take a look at the assessment calendar for next year and see what the even 20th 21st push it two weeks um because i think i brought it up in a board meeting you know with the one we had in november we were in the middle of 20 straight days for everybody of and and our my teacher friends were like eric i i had i know i'm taking at least one day off because 20 straight academic days is just really hard and i'm not saying that you know some people probably doesn't bother at all but if we could just you know you know allocate these especially the day and a half and i i love throwing half days in there to make it extra special i'm fine with that as long as our teachers are finding utility in that and they're using our of course we're using them for whatever it is that we need them for um but i would love to see a different calendar that just spread those out okay we'll make some adjustments and bring it back to the board does anybody else have any issue with that it just stands out to me oh no i agree i agree except those original days would be really great for kids celebrating passover who are up late but i know that's few and far between so which originals oh this six seven six actually correspond to passover really well this year but that's okay don't that's not i want to take that into well that's also again you know my thoughts a couple years ago i said no to the calendar because it was good friday that we had off that pulls good friday which i have no issue with that's why we have that's why that falls so i know that's why it's on those dates but i that's not an issue i understand it might be for some people that i do not think we should have that day with the contractual requirement we have well actually then you can't move the that's what i'm saying this is the seventh that's good friday [Music] what's the contractual requirement good friday good friday yes it's in the kitchen that's in the teacher contract no it's something so you can't move good you can't take the seventh and can you nope we'd have to renegotiate that out yeah i was not aware that that was negotiating with that contract that is that week for spring break what the other districts are taking what's that the week for spring break is it the same as what everybody's doing for ihsa i assume you'd like to the fox valley side yes okay i'm surprised i don't think the spring break alliance fox valley athletic conference and to the function i think you should go back to fox valley and tell them they shouldn't have spring break a week and then you tie it in with good friday and now you've you've actually got an extra day you kind of worked it in everybody's favor we tend to follow the the spring break is tied to the tied to the ihsa calendar how about the efb 110 it would throw us off with that for a week for all of them for spring break it would is there um maybe again i when my patients who were in geneva batavia i was really surprised that uh not potato but geneva has a full two and a half weeks off they have monday tuesday wednesday off and then go back to the 10th that was really surprising which is essentially what we're doing next year it's a full two and a half weeks off just from an allocation of days first and second semester do we find there to have been utility to add the 22nd in there and go monday to thursday keeping the start date the same everything else is the same we kind of shift the days so it's you know 89 and 85 or whatever that is um you know is there you know does that offer us any flexibility for some creativity with days on the back side of the calendar if we added a day to the first semester you know i've always said like getting as close as possible our semester is our social studies folks in the high school i agree anybody's got semester courses yep you know the 21st or the 22nd i you know for a lot of families isn't going to make a big difference i would assume it's not like it's 23rd i grew at the 23rd not having school in my head i actually had somebody ask me and i had assumed we would have started actually on the wednesday the um 17th next year based on what we had talked about a year ago when we were having this conversation i see that saint charles is starting on the 10th so thank goodness we're not starting the 10th so i'm glad we're pushing it back but again i'm wondering if there's any flexibility or if there's any utility in adding an extra day in that christmas week the holiday break week we'll call it um to if that offers any flexibility for just allocation of days that's just one other thing that i would part of the reason why we have the student start date on the 16th instead of on the on the 15th instead of the 17th is to help balance out the first and first semester seconds yeah and again i i don't have a problem starting on monday but again in my head i just had we would take advantage of that that i i don't think a two and a half week break is necessary but we can start up the second week too last week the third to the sixth we'd come back sooner as well so i think and in my head it's it's i don't want to come back on a friday and cut off a weekend for one day so you could come back on the third but come back in the fourth on the fourth and then that's less than it's less than ten school days right so i think i think that keeping it at least ten but then if we do the uh if we add that thursday the 22nd then it's only 11 school days which again in the same way you could say well 11 or 12 doesn't really matter but again from because our first semester is always less is there something at the end of april beginning of may so that's my point like if we have a little bit of flexibility there to even just have a no it could be a no it could be no student no teacher day yeah i mean we can do whatever we want i'm assuming right correct yep just like the friday is a good friday is a day that nobody does anything for instance so that might allow some flexibility because we have to keep good friday where it is we throw another three-day weekend in there where there's no teacher responsibilities either which may be appreciated on their part a full non-obligated three-day weekend for them to do work if they wanted to outside to for assessments and things like that that's not required in building right so that's i think just another creative way to look at that so yeah we'll take a look at a few of those options can you just send a few whatever feels reasonable i don't even know whoever you know what what you know stakeholders we'd want to ask about um i think it's a little bit dangerous to ask too many people but you know ultimately i want to keep it parity i want to make sure with seven weeks is too many weeks in a row and not have a break i think kids are i mean i think that's tough on kids too um so the last day of school and on one day oh no that's friday last day school is friday that's teacher institute and we get once one emergency day your last day of school is now tuesday after memorial day well hopefully with negotiations maybe we can continue to look at emergency use days and see what we can do with creating some options for for those days would be great if we can that could be addressed however that's going to be addressed i think it's one more thing to throw on the tables if there isn't enough obviously but i think i i would love to see that be an option for 22-23 and i think the community would too and i know a lot of teachers would as well so hopefully we could all come to some sort of agreement on what that might look like yeah he'll probably bring it i mean you know suppose i don't care we'll make some we'll make some adjustments to the draft and bring it back to the board did me to make that discussion go that long people i was not thinking the calendar would be the longest part of the evening but thank you it usually is discussions appreciate it calendars always drive some good discussion all right we received a photo from smart procure requesting current employee contact information we were we were able to reply the foil and we only gave them their work contact information all right that wraps up the meeting for this evening motion second to go into executive sessions we're on it people we're on it i was waiting for mitch to speak up right rave yes nolan yes yeah yes

[Music] good morning and welcome to today's poetry out loud school competition for the 2021 school year the competition has been organized by the english department led by our lead teacher mr wilbur higgins and we have several contestants from several different grade levels this year competing we have four accuracy judges excuse me quality judges i suppose one accuracy judge and all members are from the school system which is super exciting so we're going to start today with miss hannah lima who is a grade 11 student and was our poetry out live loud winner for last year's season she is a member of the dhs school count student council a member of the golf team a member of the dance team a member of the theater company and because she has all those amazing talents she was recently crowned as miss new bedford's outstanding teen and has been serving as a volunteer throughout the community in various capacities hannah also just participated in the moby dick marathon for this year's reading of the historic story of moby dick she also stays busy with both singing and dancing lessons i don't know how she has time but here with her first poem is hannah lima [Music] i will be reciting songs for the people by francis ellen watkins harper let me make the songs for the people songs for the old and young songs to stir like a battle cry whenever they are sung not for the clashing of sabers for carnage nor for strife but songs to thrill the hearts of men with more abundant life let me make the songs for the weary amid life's fever and threat till hearts shall relax their tension and care worn brows forget let me sing for little children before their footsteps stray sweet anthems of love and duty to float over life's highway let me sing for the poor and aged when shadows dim their sight of the bright and restful mansions where there shall be no night our world so worn and weary needs music pure and strong to hush the jangle and discords of sorrow pain and wrong music to soothe all its sorrow to war and crime shall cease and the hearts of men grown tender girdle the world with peace [Music] while we transition to our next reciting i would like to introduce our first performance judge which is associate principal rachel chavier rachel is a crucial member of dhs and she is definitely in charge of my smile most of the time at staff meetings she's a good one and we're glad to have her here as a former english teacher as well so next up we have ariana stevens she is a senior this year in mr lima's class and it is the first time she has competed in poetry out loud she participates in cheerleading and the key club ariana thinks poetry is beautiful in all links with meaning behind each line [Music] english teachers doing math forgive us [Music] in between okay each one [Music] do [Music] and now with her first reading ariana stevens [Music] hi i'm ariana i'm going to be reading ebb by edna saint vincent malay i know what my heart is like since your love died it is like a hollow ledge holding a little pool left there by the tide a little tepid pool drying inward from the edge okay all right hi everybody this is mr higgins so in between the the performances i'll be doing a little reading of some poems and limericks as well just to kind of give the judges some time thanks for tuning in to this poetry out loud uh to everybody in the school who is who is watching today so here's the first poem that i'd like to read in between so this is called christmas trees and this is by robert frost this is from a christmas circular letter the city had withdrawn into itself and left at last the country to the country when between worlds of snow not come to lie and whirls of foliage not yet laid there drove a stranger to our yard who looked the city yet did in country fashion in that there he sat and waited until he drew us out a buttoning codes to ask him who he was he proved to be the city come again to look for something it had left behind and could not do without and keep its christmas he asked if i would sell my christmas trees my woods the young fur balsams like a place where houses all are churches and have spires i hadn't thought of them as christmas trees i doubt if i was tempted for a moment to sell them off their feet to go in cars and leave the slope behind the house all bear where the sun shines now no warmer than the moon i'd hate to have them know it was it was i yet more i'd hate to hold my trees except as others hold theirs or refuse for them beyond the time of profitable growth the trial by market everything must come true i dallied so much with the thought of selling then whether from mistaken courtesy and fear of seeming short of speech or whether from hope of hearing good of what was mine i said there aren't enough to be worthwhile i could soon tell how many they would cut you let me look them over back to miss lassie [Music] our next performance judge is the much beloved mr john bro he is the head of the special education department here at the high school and he is pretty much responsible for our amazing inclusive programs with athletics and the students blending in with the regular ed students and having opportunities they wouldn't have normally had so his heart is bigger than he is and uh we love mr bro here at the high school so our next contestant is the mr joshua minis he is a senior and a man of many interests i have been privileged enough to have joshua twice in class he's amazing he participates in the marching band key club the spectrum the math team student council and unified track he's very excited and a little nervous to participate today so please let's give joshua minis a warm welcome [Music] where the wild things go by d gilson the night max war's wolf suit made him infamous bred the child star never sent to bed middle school max started drinking not in my house his mother begged no no no wild thing max reminded her who bought this condo who paid for her meds freshman year max raved roared his terrible roar rolled and almost wound up in a warehouse dead where oh where do the wild things go to rehab in high school the college on residual book sales max kept his head down laughed at drunken frat boys bro let the wild rumpus start max said no thanks and volunteered for the peace corps instead two years in kenya one in belarus the president thought max might be of some use max moved to washington appointed at the state department a cultural attache one important day max wore his wolf gray suit then drove home well past rush hour in a freak snow storm max drove on the deserted beltway thought his throne yes max belted this is where the wild things roam [Music] hey it's mr higgins again so we're gonna try to lighten things up a little bit this time with some limericks uh limericks are very very short palms almost like haikus but they might be funny ridiculous sometimes body uh or coarse but we're not gonna read those today uh so here are a couple um to entertain you um let's see my neighbor came over to say although not in a neighborly way that he'd knock me around if i didn't stop the sound of the classical music i play i can hear your laughter around the school right now here's another one there once was a man from tibet who couldn't find a cigarette so he smoked all his socks and got chicken pox and had to go to the vet i heard some laughter that time here's another one there once was a man stuck in a stall he tried to get out but would fall one day a man flushed the fat man just blushed and quickly ran out of the mall here's one more there was an enchanting young bride who ate many green apples and died the apples fermented inside the lamented and made cider inside her inside back to miss lassie i don't know how to follow that so our next performance judge is mrs jean flight uh she is my co-teacher this year which is very exciting and i'm very thankful for uh she is the kindest person i think i've ever encountered she is so thoughtful not just with the kids but with all of us as a staff she makes the best cookies on the planet so please definitely take one of those cookies but we are very lucky to have miss jean play with us today so our next recitation will be from bronte masuko and i had the privilege of having bronte last year and we are officially pen pals now we write back and forth all the time with silliness and i love it so she is a junior who participated in poetry out loud for class but not for the competition for the school she is involved in winter track tennis she's secretary of the naacp youth council founder of the yoga ceramics club secretary of the multicultural club environmental club creative writing club and key club she works at the amc cinema she is competing due to the prospect of the extra credit point she called mr higgins into giving her for participating but i'm sure we will all be overjoyed with her performance so with her first reading is bronte [Music] epitaph on the lady mary billiards by thomas carew this little vault this narrow room of love and beauty is the tomb the dawning beam that began to clear our clouded sky lies darkened here forever set to us by death sent to inflame the world beneath it was but a bud yet did contain more sweetness than shall spring again a budding star that might have grown into a sun when it had blown this hopeful beauty did create new life in love's declining state but now his empire ends and we from fire and wounding darts are free his brand his bow let no man fear the flames the arrows all lie here [Music] okay thank you bronte i'm back for some more ridiculous limericks here here's a good one a newspaper man named fling could make copy from any old thing but the copy he wrote of a five dollar note was so good he is now wears so much bling i heard somebody left all these are in triplet i think you can hear here's another one there was a young lady of cork whose paw made a fortune in pork he bought for his daughter a tutor who taught her to balance green peas on her fork [Laughter] i think that was technically a guffaw here's another one there was an odd fellow named gus when traveling he made such a fuss he was banned from the train not allowed on a plane and now travels only by bus that's a good one for the holidays right there one more i need a front door for my hall the replacement i bought was too tall so i hacked it and chopped it and carefully lopped it and now the dumb thing is too small back to ms lassie [Music] our next performance judge and our last performance judge is one of my work besties miss tara kearney aka tk she is my fashion inspiration and she motivates me every day to be more creative with my lessons if you go in her room your jaw will drop her kids are engaged and she's doing something that i couldn't have even fathomed to do she's amazing and we're lucky to have her in our department and i'm lucky to have her in my life so our next contestant is lauren lima lauren is a junior who i also had the privilege of having in class last year she's never competed in poetry out loud before but she has participated in the dartmouth high school theater company and harmonix so this is right up her alley she loves performing and reflecting on how much poems can affect us emotionally so here is my beloved lauren lima [Music] ozymandias by percy b shelley i met a traveler from an antique land who said two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert near them on the sand hath sunk a shattered visage lies whose frown and wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command tell that it's sculpter well those passions read which yet survive stamped on these lifeless things the hands that mock them and the heart that fed and on the pedestal these words appear my name is ozymandias king of kings look upon my works ye mighty and despair nothing beside remains around the decay of that colossal wreck boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away [Music] great job in that poem anybody who's ever had me for class knows that azamandias is one of my favorite poems i think ozymandias is actually a translation of ramses uh the ancient egyptian pharaoh in greek all right here's a couple more limericks to give the judges some time a gherkin is a pickle i believe for this one it makes sense there was a young lady named perkins who just simply lived on gherkins in spite of advice she ate so much spice that she ruined her internal workings that's right there's a building in a famous skyscraper in london that's shaped like a pickle it's called the gherkin here's another one a painter who lived in great britain interrupted two girls with their knitting he said with a sigh that park bench well i just painted it right where you're sitting [Laughter] one more there once was a boy named dan who wanted to fry in a pan he tried and he tried and eventually died that weird little boy named dan [Laughter] miss lassie okay i'd like to move on to introducing our prompter for today which is miss kimberly rivard she is my neighbor up in the english department and i could not be more thankful kim is the type of person that if you're having a bad day just just listen or watch her for a few minutes she's dancing in the hallway she's got a smile or a compliment for you and again we're very lucky to have her in the department our next reading is going to be from mr sean martin el presidente of the junior class he has competed in poetry allowed at the classroom level for the past two years but never at the school-wide level he plays football and basketball here at dhs as i said he is the class president for the junior class a member of the deca a member of key club and a member of the chess team he's excited to participate in poetry out loud to give it my best shot and see how well i can do with my recitations because he always gives his best here's sean martin [Music] holding court by jacob signs today i became king of the court without a diamond-encrusted crown thrust upon my sweaty head instead my markings of royalty were the t-shirt draping my body like a robe soaked in champagne and the pain in my right knee a sign of a battle endured my will tested and bested by none as the ball flew off my hands i swift as an arrow toward the heart of her target my fingers ringless yet feeling like gold [Music] okay i think for this poem this limerick to make sense you need to know that brie is a type of cheese one saturday morning at three a cheesemonger's shop in paris collapsed to the ground with a thunderous sound leaving only a pile of debris here's another one i'm really determined and keen to start giving this house a spring clean i will do it i say yes i'll do it today well i'll do it tomorrow i mean one more there once was a child in spain who loved to play in the rain one day he tripped and broke his hip now he's in serious pain our next judge today is anne feinfield who is doing our accuracy scores and she's the perfect person to do this because i swear she could be an editor in another life i think i think she probably was she is one of the most well traveled well-read women i have ever met and she is definitely my role model when it comes to pushing kids to the absolute highest capacity they can go to she is she just demands respect as a teacher as a woman as a human being and i adore her so our next reading will be from phoenix campbell who i have never had the pleasure to have in class very sad but i got to meet the other day so so so exciting phoenix is a junior and has not done poetry out loud before he's part of the winter and spring track teams as well as the cross country team in the fall he is also on the math team phoenix is excited to participate as he has never done it before he enjoys poetry and analyzing the meaning behind it as he learned to do in mr lima's class this year so with a great plug for mr lima here is phoenix [Music] this is once you celebrate with me by lucille clifton won't you celebrate with me what i have shaped into a kind of life i had no model born in babylon both non-white and woman what did i see to be except myself i made it up here on this bridge between starshine and clay my one hand holding tight my other hand come celebrate with me that every day something has tried to kill me and it's fail [Music] right here's a serious poem this is titled mistletoe by walter de lamar sitting under the mistletoe pale green fairy mistletoe one last candle burning low all the sleepy dancers gone just one candle burning on shadows lurking everywhere someone came and kissed me there tired i was my head would go nodding under the mistletoe pale green fairy mistletoe no footsteps steps came no voice but only just as i sat there sleepy lonely stooped in the still and shadowy air lips unseen and kissed me there miss lassie [Music] our last employee for the poetry out loud competition today is miss anna source she is part of the special education department that works with the english department and we are so lucky to have her she works primarily with mr karen and that is a lot to handle with the technology so she is one of our saviors at all times one of the sweetest people as well we're very lucky upstairs so our next contestant is holly raposo she is a junior and she's competed in poetry out loud but it was her freshman year she also does dance in theater she enjoyed doing poetry out loud her freshman year and wanted to do it again because it's fun and maybe to redeem herself this year which having interacted with her several times i have complete confidence in her here is holly [Music] i will be reciting you if no one else by tino vili villiova listen you who transformed your anguish into healthy awareness put your voice where your memory is you who swallowed the afternoon dust defend everything you understand with words you if no one else will condemn with your tongue [Music] the erosion each disappointment brings you who saw the images of disgust growing you will understand how time devours you distinct you who gave yourself your own commandments know better than anyone why you turned your back on the town's toughest moments don't hush don't throw away the most persistent truth as our hard-headed brethren sometimes do remember well what life was like cloudiness and a slick mud after drizzle flimsy windows the wind kept rattling in winter and that unheated slab dwelling where coldness crawled up under your clothes tell how you come to this point to unbar the history stores to see your early years your people the others name the way rebellions calm spirit has served you and how you came to unlearn these lessons of that teacher your lands on your opponent defiler [Music] okay i'm back with some more absurdity if you've been listening to these limericks you can tell that there's a specific rhythm and a rhyme scheme they're all in triplets so it should be duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh dah dah dah dah dah dah that's kind of the general idea here's the limerick there was a young school boy of rye who was baked by mistake in a pie to his mother's disgust he emerged through the crust and exclaimed with a yawn where am i here's another there is a young schoolboy named mason whose mom cuts his hair with a basin when he stands in one place with a scarf around his face it's a mystery which way he's facing last one there once was a fly on the wall i wonder why didn't it fall because its feet stuck or was it just luck or does gravity miss things so small so my last introduction today will just be a return to our beloved mr higgins he is the lead teacher of the english department and we are a rough group to handle we are loud and opinionated and he gives us joy and he has unified us and he has pushed our department forward in so many different ways we would not be the same without mr higgins at the helm for the english department and our last contestant today is anna oliveira and um she was kind enough to let mr higgins write her bio so here we go anna is a junior that's true and has not competed in poetry out loud before here's where it gets a little spicy she enjoys playing horseshoes cornhole and badminton in her spare time anna works as a pickleball referee at a local retirement community anna is also an avid knitter she has an etsy store that sells sweaters for kittens and her favorite beetle is ringo so here's our woman of mystery anna oliveira [Music] this is beginning by james wright the moon drops one or two feathers into the field the dark wheat listens be still now there they are the moon's young trying their wings between trees a slender woman lifts up a lovely shadow of her face and now she steps into the air now she is gone holy into the air i stand alone by an elder tree i do not dare breathe or move i listen the wheat leans back toward its own darkness and i lean toward mine [Music] okay we need to get a link to that etsy store hannah let's see those those sweaters for kittens all right so you heard that there's a rhythm in these poems there's also a rhyme scheme too so this is aabba all the way through these here's the limerick an elephant slept in his bunk and in slumber his chest rose and sunk but he snored how he snored all the other beasts roared so his wife tied a knot in his trunk here's another a circus performer named brian once smiled as he rode on a lion they came back from the ride but with brian inside and the smile on the face of the lion one more there was an old man of peru who dreamt he was eating his shoe he woke in the night with a terrible fright and found it was perfectly true miss lassie so now our contestants are going to do their second poems so i'm going to be reintroducing after this bell hannah lima two years ago hannah experienced the gift of poetry and was forever changed words have the power to help heal unite and inspire she's excited to participate because she gets to take the beautiful words of others and bring them to life through her own interpretation taking the audience on a journey and opening their hearts and minds to think about and imagine what is and what could be lastly she also enjoys composing and performing her own poems hannah chose the first poem because it speaks to how music touches the heart of young and old it also reminds us how important music is in our lives and how it is good for the soul this second poem helps us to reflect on the wonders of nature that surrounds us it causes us to pause and think about every day and everything around us here once again is hannah lima [Music] the day's gone by by james whitcomb riley oh the day's gone by oh the days gone by the apples and the orchard and the pathway through the rye the churro of the robin and the whistle of the quail as he piped along the meadows sweet as any nightingale when the bloom was on the clover and the blue was in the sky and my happy heart brimmed over and the days gone by and the days gone by when my naked feet were tripped by the honeysuckles tangles where the water lilies dipped and the ripples of the river along along ripples of the river the ripples of the river lift the moss along the brink oh god um yeah just the word okay what i just need like the first one oh with the placid eye and the lazy footed cattle came to drink oh god and the tilting snipe stood fearless of the students wayward cry and the splashing of the swimmers in the days gone by oh the day's gone by oh the days gone by the music of the laughing whip the lustre of the eye the childish faith in fairies and the magic in aladdin's magic ring the simple soul reposing glad belief in everything when life was like a story holding neither saab noir sigh and the golden old and glory and the days gone by [Music] okay i'm back with a couple of limericks here's a good one there was a young person called smarty who sent out his cards for a party so exclusive and few were the friends that he knew that no one was present but smarty [Laughter] i know if you can hear but this there's some laughter coming from the control room here here's another one an elderly man called keith mislaid his set of false teeth they had been laid on a chair he had forgot they were there sat down and was bitten beneath [Laughter] one more there was a young lady of kent whose nose was most awfully bent she followed her nose one day i suppose and no one knows which away she went [Laughter] i mean how can you not love mr higgins i mean you're getting a taste of it right here with her second poem we have ariana stevens she chose two love poems that she enjoys reading due to the intense feelings conveyed by someone in love everyone has different definitions of what love is and feels like and she finds it interesting to read the different perspectives with her second poem ariana stevens [Music] this is rondo by lay hunt jenny kissed me when we met jumping from the chair she sat in time you fool who loved to get sweets into your list put that in say i'm wary same sad say that health and wealth have missed me say i'm growing old but add jenny kissed me [Music] right here's a serious one this is a real poem this is titled to mrs k on her sending me an english christmas plum cake at paris by helen maria williams what crowding thoughts around me wake what marvels in a christmas cake ah say what strange enchantment dwells enclosed within his odorous cells is there no small magician bound encrusted in its snowy round for magic surely lurks in this a cake that tells of vanished bliss a cake that conjures up to view the early scenes when life was new one memory knew no sorrows passed and hope believed in joys that last mysterious cake whose folds contain life's calendar of bliss and pain that speaks of friends forever fled and wakes the tears i love to shed oft shall i breathe her cherished name from whose fair hand the offering came for she recalls the artless smile of nymphs that deck my native isle of beauty that we love to trace allied with tender modest grace of those who while abroad they roam retain each charm that gladdens home and whose dear friendships can impart a christmas banquet for the heart that's for those who like fruitcake it's got to be a very small crowd out there miss lassie no one likes fruitcake okay with his second poem today i would like to sing some more praises for mr joshua minis he doesn't just get recognized by us as a staff but also his peers recently winning the superlatives most likely to succeed most involved and best all-around with his second reading here is josh [Music] meeting at an airport by taha muhammad ali you asked me once on our way back from the mid-morning trip to the spring what do you hate and who do you love and i answered from behind the eyelashes of my surprise my blood rushing like a shadow cast by a cloud of starlings i hate departure i love the spring and i love the pa and the path to the spring and i worship the middle hours of morning and you laughed and the almond tree blossomed and the thicket grew loud with nightingales a question now four decades old i salute the questions answer and answer as old as your departure i salute the answers question and today it's preposterous here we are at a friendly airport by this limit of chances and we meet ah lord we meet and here you are asking again it's absolutely preposterous i recognized you but you didn't recognize me is it you but you wouldn't believe it and suddenly you burst out and asked if you're really you what do you hate and who do you love and i answered my blood fleeing the hall rushing in me like the shadow cast by a cloud of starlings i hate departure and i love the spring and the path to the spring and i worship the middle hours of morning and you wept and flowers bowed their heads and the doves and doves in the silk of their sorrows stumbled [Music] okay here's some more levity no more fruitcake there once was a girl named zoe she went out in her yard which was quite snowy she ate her brother asked her parents for another so they had another name joey her name should have been zoe mess that one up here's another one a young gourmet dining net crew found a rather large mouse in his stew said the waiter don't shout and wave it about or the rest will be wanting one too [Laughter] one more a crossword compiler named moss who found himself quite at a loss when asked why so blue said i haven't a clue i'm too down to put one across that takes a second there you go okay up next with her second performance is going to be bronte masuko her first poem really captured her attention by the way of its vivid imagery and really unique word choice she liked the construction of her second poem and thought it was a really beautiful sort of narrative with these conflicting ideas of flames and conflict but also beauty in hope and here is our unique hopeful beauty bronte mazuco the maldive shark by herman melville about the shark phlegmatical one pale sought of the maldives sea the sleek little pilot fish azur and slim how alert in attendance be from his saw pit of mouth from his charnel of maw they have little of harm to dread but liquidly glide on his ghastly flank or before his gorgonian head or seek port behind his serrated teeth in white triple tears of glittering gates they are friends and friendly they guide him to pray eyes and brains of the dotard lethargic and dull pale ravener of horrible meat [Music] okay for this one to make sense you need to know that a lou is the british word for a bathroom i'm papering walls in the loo and quite frankly i haven't a clue for the pattern's all wrong or the paper is too long and i'm stuck to the toilet with glue here's another there was a young lady whose chin resembled the point of a pin so she had made it she had it made sharp and purchased a harp and played several tunes with her chin [Laughter] one more there was an old man with a gong who bumped at it all day long but they called out no more you're a horrid old boar so they smashed that old man with a gong [Laughter] poor man was just trying to play his music okay next up with her second performance we have lauren lima for her first poem she chose this because it was very intriguing or excuse me she was very intrigued by the message of power being temporary it is a short poem but it still manages to present a large message she chose her second poem because as a queer individual who does not fit into the gender binary she related deeply to the words written here's the wonderful lauren lima [Music] portrait of my gender as an audible by meg day i knew i was a god when you could not agree on my name and still none you spoke could force me to listen closer is this the nothing the antelope felt when adam lit on his own entitling dubbed family genus species so many descendants became doctors delivered babies bestowed bodies names as if to say it is to make it so if i told you you wouldn't believe me because i was the one to say it on the first day there was no sound worth mentioning if if i too am a conductor of air the only praise i know is in stereo one pair an open hand enclosed fist will have to do i made a photograph of my name there was a shadow in a field and i put my shadow in it you can't hear me but i'm there [Music] okay i don't know if you're getting tired of limericks but here's some more the incredible wizard of oz retired from his business because due to up-to-date science to most of his clients he wasn't the wizard he was [Laughter] another there was an old man with a beard who said it is just as i feared two owls and a hen four larks and a wren have all built their nests in my beard one more is it me or the nature of money that's odd and particularly funny but when i have dough it goes quickly you know and seeps out of my pockets like honey with his second reading we're going to call back sean martin he chose his first poem because it portrays the vast emotions that are experienced when playing sports especially when things are going well which as a basketball player himself is something he can relate to and felt he could provide insight to through his recitation sean also chose to recite his second poem because he particularly enjoyed the form and rhythm of the poem with very descriptive and longer lines that provide imagery for the situation being discussed while also having a much deeper meaning he found this to be very interesting and here is the interesting man himself sean martin [Music] after the war by rachel galvin when he got to the farmhouse he rifled through the cabinets jars and cupboards and his buddies did too the police was abandoned or so he thought and his buddies did too he tried to talk to people in town and his buddies did too but he was the only one whose yiddish made it across into german they took his meaning he in the farmhouse took a camera and a gun and his but his buddies who knows about the gun it's also hard to say but after the war he took up photography why not and shot beautiful woman for years got good at it and how won prizes and engraved plates put them in a drawer forgot the war forgot his buddies forgot the woman forgot the drawer [Music] okay you thought i ran out of these but i did not here's a limerick i met her in chat she was neat her photo was pretty petite we met for a meal i saw her for real i screamed and then ran down the street there once was a man from york who picked his nose with a fork he went for a pluck when it got stuck and walked around looking like a dork one more there once was a man from peru who had a lot of growing up to do he'd ring a doorbell then run like hell until the owner shot him with a 22.

the agenda quotient two approved 2.1 second moved by board member ariana and second by board member rodriguez pena we'll go ahead in any discussion then we'll move to a boat i have to use the new computer because my computer i don't have a link okay we can do a we can do a hand vote so if you just message me remember i remember beau yes i remember ariana's yes board member cruz gonzalez yes and i am also yes the motion passes five yes five to zero moving on then to item 3.1 public comment on agenda or non-agenda items this is an opportunity for the public to address the board of education to address the board of education on any agenda or non-agenda items when the public wishes to address the board on any agenda item they may fill out a blue card stand at the podium or raise their hand while in zoom attendance the board will take blue card requests first followed in order by speakers at the podium and then those in zoom attendant just a few other reminders for for tonight in particular um i i know that there is a a special item that we have on our agenda i do want to remind everyone that you have three minute um and this will be an evening where i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna hold you to those three minutes and so i'm gonna ask that you please be mindful of the clock um and that you're able to wrap up your comments within that time um otherwise i apologize in advance but but i will stop you at um right at three minutes um also a reminder that um we don't you will not have the option of yielding your time to someone else and so you can use utilize that three minutes those three minutes are for any individual speaker but if if you were wanting to yield those three minutes for someone else to compound um additional minutes uh that is another that would go beyond be a lot of three minutes per person and and i i wouldn't allow that uh the last thing i'll say is um just to be mindful of time it would be helpful if you were mindful of other comments that were made tonight maybe prioritizing the the things that others have not yet said to ensure that there's a diversity of perspective that that comes to the uh to the board as we're looking to make uh some decisions tonight uh that would be most helpful uh just to ensure that um all of those pieces are are covered and and the the insight is provided and opinions are shared to the board with that said we will go ahead and move on to our public comment do we have any blue cards okay first up we have philip via [Music] good evening school board president mr greer and all board members superintendent mr ortega and cabinet and anyone else attending this meeting i've come to speak to you all tonight about the school year organization rebranding the rebounding for our district in my eyes is the best thing because of all the new opportunities for the school yes i know this rebranding is a costly thing but this will be a life changer i've been i recently sat in a meeting regarding school reorganization and there were people in that meeting who are very against the idea of rebranding the high school i've had many family members and friends who have graduated from gladstone and ever since i was a little kid i've always wanted to graduate from the g rebranding for the high school is the best thing because no one has to be discouraged when they have to be when they have been going to one school for so many years and then all of a sudden have to turn around and graduate in the opposite school that i do not choose to go to a new name would be neutral to the two high school names right now so that way no one has a bad taste in their mouth by the time my career freshman class emerges to one high school the invested amount of time that we have spent as gladiators will feel like as if it was off for nothing we are as important as the classes before us and the classes after us and we deserve to feel like we matter i ask that you strongly consider this rebounding request as we move forward to the changes that will become thank you for your time next we have cecilia ford good evening mr president greer members of the board superintendent ortega and audience my name is cecilia ford i am the proud parent of a very well-rounded involved amazing gladiator who will graduate class of 2025.

2021-12-22 Bristol County, MA YouTube / DHSTVmedia transcript source: youtube Poetry Out Loud 2021 · passage 2
[Laughter] those first two sound like my dating history before my husband my goodness all right with his second poem we are going to call back phoenix campbell phoenix chose won't you celebrate with me as it depicts the struggles of a minority woman in a time when those struggles were not always heard it is powerful and a great representation of how everybody can express themselves through poetry phoenix chose prince which he's about to recite because he has always had an interest in his ancestors and how they provided him the life he has now while reflecting on all of the work they have put in for a better life here is phoenix campbell this is prince by joseph bukak seeing photos of ancestors a century passed is like looking at your own fingerprints circles and lines you can't recognize until someone else with a stranger's eye looks close and says that's you thank you [Music] yes i do have more a fellow jumped a half i'm sorry a fellow jumped off a high wall and had a most terrible fall he went back to bed with a bump on his head that's why you don't jump off a wall [Laughter] here's another there once was a farmer from leeds who swallowed a packet of seeds it soon came to pass he was covered with grass but has all the tomatoes he needs [Laughter] one more there once was a man named bryce who had a nasty head full lice he said if i eat them then i'll have beat them and besides they taste very nice lice is a school teacher's nightmare my gosh okay uh for her second poem we have holly raposo returning to the mic she chose these poems because she feels that she can portray them and have that emotional value behind them and have a similar connection to each here is the very talented holly raposo [Music] i felt a funeral on my brain by emily dickinson i felt a funeral in my brain and mourners to and fro kept treading treading till it seemed that sense was breaking through and when they were all seated a service like a drum kept beating beating till i thought my mind was going numb and then i heard them lift a box and creak across my soul with the same boots and lead again then space began to toll as the heavens were a bell and being but an ear and eye in silence some strange race wrecked solitary here and then a plank in reason broke and i dropped down and down and hit a world at every plunge and finished knowing then okay i'm going to try to regain some credibility as a teacher here by reading a real poem this is titled christmas tree lots by chris green christmas trees lined like war refugees a fallen army made to stand in their greens cut down at the foot on their last leg they pulled themselves up arms raised we dropped them like wood tied they are driven through the streets dragged through the door cornered in a room given a single blanket only water to drink surrounded by joy forced to wear a gaudy gold star to surrender their pride they do their best to look alive with her last reading today i'm going to reintroduce anna oliveira and since mr higgins wrote her bio the first time i thought i would give you something true about anna though i've never had her in class i know she's an excellent student but i was able to be her coach for volleyball and this year got to watch her on varsity as her assistant coach anna's the best of all of us she is the person you want on the team because she's going to make all of us better whether it's her spirit cheering on the court or off the court the effort she puts in the smile on her face anna just makes everything better so with her second reading on oliver [Music] this is the chimney sweeper a little black thing among the snow by william blake a little black thing among the sm snow crying weep weep in notes of woe where are thy father and mother say they have both gone up to the church to pray because i am happy upon the heath and smiled among the winter snow they have clothed me in the close of death and taught me to sing in notes of woe because i am happy and can sing and dance they think they have done me no injury and gone to praise god and his priest and king that make up a heaven of our misery all right i have one last limerick for today um i'll read this last one we're going to pause for a few minutes at the end of this to to tally the scores and we'll be back to announce the winner of poetry out loud all right my last limerick for today a man and his lady loved men skated out where the ice was quite thin had a coral no doubt before i hear they fell out what a blessing they didn't fall in i just want to add too though it's very possible that anna may have a future in knitting sweaters for kittens suggestion may be enough possibly all right we'll pause and be back in a few minutes [Music] hi everybody and welcome back to poetry out loud so we do have a list of the the top three finishers for this year's poetry out loud before i do that i'd like to thank all of the performers contestants uh who came here today to do this on the day before our break uh it's challenging to do this it really is it's not easy to memorize a poem in the first place you notice there aren't any teachers up here memorizing poems right in front of the mic it's very very difficult and i think that you know we double that triple that when you stand in front of a mic in front of a camera so applause thanks to all those students who um who participated today thank you very much i want to thank again uh all the teachers who helped out with us especially miss lassie who didn't get her own introduction but who is a constant source of happiness i think for both students and teachers in the english department so thank you miss lassie we appreciate it so i'd like to announce the top three and if each one of you could come up uh quickly here uh we'll start with third place and uh we'll move on down to our champion all right in third place for the 2021 poetry out loud contest phoenix campbell all right phoenix yeah come on up good job you can sanitize after this in second place hannah lima congratulations hannah and this year's 2021 poetry out loud grand champion lauren lima [Music] [Applause] great job lauren and we have a small gift for you 100 years of the best american short stories if you could have these all read by the time you come back from vacation that'd be great congratulations i also want to thank mr
