The bottom line is that by using classroom video and student growth data, we are moving into a deeper phase of data-driven refinement. We are no longer just trying the model. We are iterating it We are iterating on it to ensure it drives measurable student achievement across all core areas. We believe that by changing the way students engage with their learning, we are fulfilling our promise to help them dream, learn, and become. Mr.
Hearing none, all those in favor signify by saying aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Item 8.9 bus purchase. >> Yeah, I sent you a couple of quotes again a week ago or so. >> [clears throat] >> As you noticed, buses aren't getting any cheaper. So, we we put a hold on those buses about a month ago because we would have waited till April April 1st. We didn't make a purchase. We waited till April 1st. We put them on a hold on them. It would have been a how many percent increase? Around 5%. >> 5% increase. Which doesn't seem like a lot of money, but on $200,000 it's significant. So, we did put a hold on those. So, if you don't approve them, we'll take that hold off. >> [clears throat and cough] >> You want to talk about what buses those are, Heather? Um The ones So, they're I'll just start off my thing here.
>> So, do you need a separate motion to accept each item? >> No, I don't think so. Those can all be grouped together as one. That would be the donations as presented from Rough Neck Reinforcers. I would make a motion to approve the donations as presented, specifying that the football field lights are the $64,000 donation since we did the extra package. >> Motion by Allison. >> So, second by Josh. Any other questions, comments, discussion? And I would I don't know if we made that clear or not. So, we try to run a grant program, too, like if any teachers or anything have anything that they need. Um, in the past, we've done some smaller items, um, some timing stuff for PE and track, um, football field bench that they donated in the name of Brody flew off. Um, and so, Courtney Baron came to us with a grant request and since we haven't feel like we wanted to make sure to spread that to not only athletics but also show support for the A program and all of our different programs.
Um, let's see. Is there anything you want to maybe give a shout out to? I mean watching anybody who's in the fest? >> Um, no. Not really. >> Okay. Okay. Got it. Got it. Well, we'll let you guys go so you can go ahead and start settling in. >> I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to it. >> All right. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Come over here. Come on. >> Oh, we're live. >> Oh, no. Get it. >> Come up your friend. Come up to your friend. Go right next to her. Right there. Okay. Hello, guys. Can we get your name? >> Tiana. >> Zoe. >> Okay. Now, are you in a project this year? >> I am. >> Yes. I'm a director for one of them. >> I am in their project right there. We Ashley's in Angelos. >> Oh, yeah. Okay.
And we'll talk about that. I know Vanessa is here also um to help guide us if or Dominic whomever to uh if if we need some support in that. So I want to quickly touch base on previous items or things that we discussed. Um I know HR has an update about contracts I think. Did I get that right? It's >> Yes, >> I uh It's just one quick update and I'm not going to project it. You can see it on Oh, well, nobody nobody's got their technology. Okay, I'll project it. You convinced me. >> They're they're engaged. So, this is really just an update on where we were on April 10th following the I'm waiting to see if it comes up. >> There we go. >> This is also linked in the resource document. So this is the return rate for this year uh compared to last year uh regarding percentages of accepted, rejected or unpublished.
Struble and I are happy to answer any questions you may have. Board members? So, for me, quite a few years ago in school, I I was not a math student at all, right? Um so, it was really easy for me to zone out, uh especially in algebra 2. Um these kids are working with, you know, AP calc, I think it was what it was, right? Um I'd never seen equations like that before in in real life. So, um and that hats off to those kids and uh for understanding that. So, I've got a few questions for you. Um I love how you're kind of expanding this out to the other subjects. Where did the vertical uh whiteboard idea kind of originate at MHS? For me, it came from our academic coach, Josie Nichols. Um she started talking me to about it last year. And um I'm very resistant to change, so it took me a minute to buy in.
Our requesting your approval to purchase two new front engine transit buses. They are 84 passenger buses. They remain essential for serving our larger more concentrated areas including like Eagles Point, Maple Lawn, Bunker Hill, the Peru area. Um we did evaluate the rear engine transit buses, but those options are significantly more expensive approaching more like the 450,000 price point for two buses. With the front engines we were able to secure them for 393,298. And that is for two um 84 passenger buses. They both come with a 10-year 200,000 mile common extended warranty along with the Cummins protection plan for the after treatment warranty. Um in [clears throat] in your packet it includes what it covers and what it doesn't cover which it it covers the majority of everything. Um this will help ensure long-term reliability and better control of maintenance costs. Additionally, these two new buses would [clears throat] be equipped with the same lap shoulder belts as our new newest lift bus that we have further supporting student safety.
So, we went ahead and granted that full full price for the flower cooler. Okay. So, there is a motion by Allison and a second by Josh. All those in favor to approve the donation say I. >> I.
Can you tell us how maybe a little hint as to what these projects are going to be like? Not too much. >> Um, plot twist. Let's just say that. >> Very funny. Plot twist. >> Entertaining. I'm not giving away anything. >> Lemons. Lemons. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Interesting. Citrus. >> I like your hat, Robbie. >> Oh, thank you. >> And the mustache. >> Oh, thank you. I worked very hard to get this look. >> He did. He really did. Okay. >> Well, have you guys been to a film festival before? >> I have. Two years ago. I did go last year. Really? Yum. Lots of first timers. Okay. Well, is there anything you guys want to add? >> No, that's it. I'm just excited. >> You guys enjoy our project a lot. We worked really hard on it. >> Yes. >> Same one. >> Okay.
So just a reminder that when it's unpublished, it means there was no action taken. So an employee either did not submit a response whether they're they're rejecting their contract or accepting it. there have been additional contracts that have been issued or reissued depending on certain circumstances uh you know like a non-renewed person who is offered an opportunity to be rehired. So those are some of the changes there. So we haven't updated this since that time. Um and it's kind of a moving target now that we've gone through that contract acceptance period. Now we have the five days of internal postings for employees who are seeking to transfer. So they have the opportunity through the end of May to request a transfer but specifically for the first five days all positions are just internally posted. So then at the end of that fifth day on the sixth day then it'll be externally available which aligns to next week's job fair.
But I remember right before um break last year, um I was going to be teaching trigonometric identities, which if you remember algebra 2, are not great. They're very hard. Very hard thing to come back from break with, definitely. And I knew the kid kids were going to need support. So, I'm like, I need to find a way to get them up talking and to be able to see their thought process. And Josie's like, "Dude, I've been telling you about vertical whiteboards. Now's the time to do them." So, she brought out her little thing and she stuck it on my wall. I'm like, "Wait, that's it?" I thought it was going to be a lot more um disruptive my classroom, but it's not. So, it was like, I don't know, 30 bucks for a roll and we cut it and slapped it up on the board and bought some whiteboard markers and we've been rolling ever since.
On the rear engines, Heather, is it is it a bunch more? I know you said a couple numbers there per bus. One What was it? Was it >> Yeah. 3 or 4,000 or is it more than that? It's It's more. 30? Um so, those came in at It was like 449,000. >> Okay. Uh for And that's for two. So, yeah, Blue Bird was 436,576. Thomas came in at 443,614. >> [clears throat] >> That's for two. Okay. So, significant. Yeah. Yep. Okay. And also Blue Bird, they're not happy to add on the extra [clears throat] charges yet for the after the DEF. I'm sorry. The new emission charges for the 2027. So, because Blue Bird can get them here faster than Thomas can, [clears throat] that's why there's such a significant price difference. Okay. And then Blue Bird also isn't charging for the seat belts, the lap shoulder belts, where that's an almost a $14,000 charge on on Thomas.
>> Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. And thank you to the community for making all that possible. >> Okay. So, we have one more item on there. We do have an anonymous donation um for ball a volleyball setup for the playground at Central Plains Elementary School. Um >> uh I mean the quote where that's attached um so for you guys to take a look at um for that volleyball setup >> you say playground so outside >> then we would need a motion to accept that anonymous donation for the volleyball court package I move to accept the anonymous donation for the volleyball court for Central Plains Elementary School. >> It's a motion by Allison. >> I'll second >> and second by Josh. Any other questions or anything on that? >> I guess I would spec Sorry. They're going to take sales tax off, right? Or they Okay, >> we'll run that through the school.
Well, that's all we got for you guys. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Bye. there. Okay. Excuse me. >> What's up? >> Not letting me know that. that way. Okay, remember Hi >> Right. We're on YouTube as well. That makes sense. Oh my god. Pretty much I see Yes. Yes. I know. Come on. Come on. I'm very excited for this film fest. Can we get your name? >> Iana. And what are you most excited for? >> Probably to see what it's all about and like honestly it >> is this your first time coming to a film festival? Yes. >> Oo, another first timer. Well, let's just say there's lot to expect. It's going to be very fun. It's going to be super awesome sauce. You're not going to regret coming. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. Well, >> thank you. >> Yeah. Thanks. >> Goodbye. >> Thank you.
So, we will have our external postings posted. Uh, we have a job here at TCA being hosted by our wonderful friends at TCA. Um, we're also broadcasting the flyer out to all of the people who've applied. I've been doing a lot of screenings of certified class of certified staff and our team does the classified. So, we're blasting out the job fair so principles and leaders in the district have an opportunity to meet with classified and certified employee potential employees uh next Wednesday, right? It's Wednesday. Yeah. All right.
Um and like this year, I started with it from day one and the students are like, "Whiteboard time." Like they're looking forward to it. So, it's great to see. Um especially cuz they not not like yourself, frequently need that help with that mathematics. And it's nice to be able to just ask ask a peer and like we encourage them to kind of look around and get ideas from their peers. So, they're not just sitting there doing nothing cuz we've all uh been there. We've all felt that when we've been asked to do a task and we're like, "I don't know where to begin." We feel that little bit of shame because we can't move forward. But now I can like I can peek around and like, "Ooh, I like that idea. Well, I see where they I see where they went from there to there." So, I mean, it's not just me telling them how to do it now.
Oh. When do we think we'll have them? 7 to 8 months. 7 to 8 months? >> Mhm. Versus 18 months. Or 24. Or 24 with the other company. Okay. I I will say this as as as we looked at previous, um we talked a couple months ago in our in our training session about how tight we operations fund is getting. This may be a purchase in the future we have to look at bonding. I mean $400,000 for two buses is is very significant and a huge impact on that on that fund. So, we can make it happen this year. And but next year we may be looking at having to include that as part of the 26 bond. The 627 bond. And that's not something I really want to do, but to make it work number wise, we may have to. And also on I don't know if if Greg shared with you, but the top four buses that we are considering critical as far as amount of money that we've had to put [clears throat] in repair are all 84 passenger buses.
So, perfect. Yeah. Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. >> Okay. I would entertain a motion to adjurnn the meeting. >> So moved. >> Motion by Allison. >> Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. Thank you everybody. Miss K was the
Hey guys, >> how you doing? >> Hey, can we get your names? >> Jaden Walker. >> EJ. >> Awesome. Okay, now do you know anybody who has a project in the film festival? >> Yes, he's in one. I'm in one and uh a couple girls we know have them. >> We are very excited. Very excited. >> Can you give us a little hint as to what the projects you guys are in are about? >> Um it's about I don't want to give too much away. It's about a group of friends but and a little incident happens. >> Interesting. >> No. Yeah. Toward the end. You got to wait and see. >> If you are here, stay to the end. If you're watching online, stay till the end. >> Okay. Awesome. Is there anything you guys want to add about the film festival? >> If you're not here, you're lame.
So, any questions about the returns update on that? >> Yeah. Yeah. you know, last year we ended up totally uh about a 19% um attrition rate. Uh and you know, one of the things that at some other time I can show you the state Arizona State Department of Education has a great dashboard now that's a retention dashboard. You can specifically look at Kraton district or other districts or statewide and you can see over the last seven years, I think it goes back that far. uh the trends and the patterns based on demographics, based on whether or not uh individuals took a position in the district, remained in the industry or left teaching altogether. So, it's really fascinating and if at some point if you're interested, we can sit down, I can kind of navigate that with you, but I would recommend you take a look.
