Like I would truly have just about anyone of them come and join us and their enthusiasm to hear them say I just really want to be there. I want to make a difference for kids. I want to be part of all this is so refreshing because again out in the world sometimes you just hear such negativity toward education and it's hard to get people to go into the field and so it just feels really good to see our high schoolers and see the folks that are in college that are coming through with that as well and they said their next group that what's in January I think I'm through the second semester group has like 35 students in it that are coming through with that yesterday we didn't have quite as many as that so that was good news as well. Um congratulations to Maddie Moody we're excited to have her join us as the adjunct counselor for us.
Is that correct? >> Yes. Okay. So with that understanding is everybody okay that option five is set aside until we see what we come up with as a group. We have consensus. I'm looking for thumbs on on moving forward that way. Okay. Good. All right, Joel. Uh, well, I don't actually need to Maybe I do need my screen back up. Let me >> And again, the the 500 is just a number. So, >> Oh, no. Keep yours. Sorry. >> You know, we talk about it again. It could be Everybody says, "Well, it needs to be at least 300 or it needs to be at least a thou, you know, whatever that number is. Come at it after, right? It's not set in stone." >> Got it. Okay, >> Dorothy. >> Sorry. No worries. Um I just wanted to bring some um additional information about one of the options.
So, do we need to make a motion to move it to a future agenda or No, cuz the agenda says discussion and possible approval. It does not say that we have to make a motion or have to approve it. Sounds good. Thank you. So, are we good? We'll just wait till we get that additional data. Mr. Harmon, can you Great. Yeah, love to. Thank you so very much. I knew you would. All right. Uh our last action item is discussion and possible approval of our guaranteed maximum price for the Maricopa High School Workforce Development and Gym Renovation. Mr. Harmon. All right. Thank you again, President Cuttrell, members of the board, and Dr. Lohman. We have an action item for our approval of guaranteed maximum price or a GMP for the Maricopa High School Workforce Development and Gym Renovation project.
I know that we're in need of that and so we're really excited because our little our little have some needs. They they struggle with some of their emotional needs and having that extra layer of support is so huge for them if they can figure it out as they're growing up there then they give them the skill set for as they move on to the other schools so Mac [clears throat] L we are in the middle of I learn testing I feel like every time I come to talk to you I'm just telling you all of the new testing that we're doing for each each part of that but we have I learn testing this week and we'll finish that up next week except for students that need to make it up. I will tell you too that we switch we shifted how we're testing this year that we did the writing portion first instead of having that typically that's the last section and I will tell you the hard work that our kiddos did and this was their first test we had some that literally finished writing it before they're heading out to buses and you have to finish that one in one day you don't get two days it up or have another time to finish it.
>> Okay, >> you can put them back up. Option 10. >> Um >> we looked at that from a sped department perspective >> and had some additional um input on that option. Uh I think we had questions about the interest across all special ed teachers >> and the impact that might have regarding the scope of work for those three days. Who would be accountable for that scope of work and making sure that if that's those are actually three days added to a contract. there were more questions than it felt like we had enough information on to put a survey out to teachers, okay, to find out the full interest level across all special education teachers, okay, which we thought was important. So, I'm just reporting back from the sped department, had a conversation and discussed this. Um so their recommendation which I'm just sharing is that this um be given a little bit more time not put like oh yeah well maybe think about that in five years but some kind of a study group or task force put together to >> really flesh out what would the scope of work be for those three days?
Um happy to answer any questions you may have. This is for the demolition package um for that campus. It's an early GMP so that we can have the the demo package approved so we're ready to begin demolition um as soon as school concludes. So, this is a remediation of these existing uh HVAC units and no No, it's demo. >> the the 800 building? Yeah. The 800 building will be demoed and all of the additional portions of the of the historic gym and that's the first step of the rebuilding that will take place over over the course of next year for this for our Workforce Development and Gym Renovation project. Got you. Um so so, why isn't a complete calculation of the final GMP available? It's not uncommon for us to bring in early preliminary GMP for things like long the long lead items. We've seen that in the past.
They worked so hard. They they their teachers said they went to specials, they went to lunch recess, came back, worked again and they were really dedicated to it. So that just makes your heart happy to know that these kids aren't going yep hi this is a sentence I'm trying to do the same one and turn your hand into a half of them I might have some of those but that overall it was really great to see that dedication that they were putting toward that. Few things coming up the junior theater has a production this Friday night and Saturday at 6:00 it's all in good time.
What would the who would be accountable for tracking that work? Like what would the impact be on the department or other staff >> as well as then being able to survey teachers and find out is this an interest that they have across a larger group of special education teachers. >> Okay. >> So, I'm just throwing that out there. Our thought wasn't indefinitely putting it on hold, but having some time to flesh some of that stuff out. >> Okay. maybe in the fall, bring it back to next year's meet and confer team for real action knowing that those details had been ironed out. >> Okay. >> So, can I propose that we amend it to exactly what you just said, Dorothy? Um, instead of >> add three days to this teacher calendar, say um create a what is it? Task force subcommittee >> similar to what we've done before like we need more information.
The timing of this demo package to get everything mobilized and ready for the end of May was uh necessary for us to get this pricing um approved, this GMP approved because we're still working through um the pricing of the rest of the schematic design and construction documents of our of the design of the actual um program buildings. Um so, this will roll into the final GMP that should be, you know, in the next couple board meetings. Got you. Okay. Uh if there's no questions, um make a motion to approve. Second. Lisa, I have a motion and a second. Shontae Rothschild. I. Ben Owens. I. Patty Cuttrell. I. All right. Our last item is a to adjourn. Do I have a motion? I move that we adjourn. I'll second. Lisa, I have a motion and a second. Shontae Rothschild. I. Ben Owens. I. Patty Cuttrell. I.
They are one act two one act plays I believe and then we have our spring music program April 30th and our art show and family book fair May 6th so lots of other things for kids to showcase their talents and showcase what they've been working on all year so any questions about anything? No. All right. Thank you. >> [laughter] >> He said save the best for last. Thank you. I only said the best for last that was okay to say. >> [laughter] >> I've never seen anybody step in for Nigel. >> [laughter] >> Um so a lot this is the month middle of April to May it is testing testing testing testing no matter where you're at. Today we had our CNA students that went and had their test. Um you know that they they work on this for two years they practiced but then it's it's entirely [clears throat] different when somebody is looking right over your shoulder grading everything you're doing and that was it's a it was a good lesson I talked to Miss Miss Overmiller today said the students [clears throat] students did really really well.
>> Exactly. Exactly. To explore and then keep that at the end. So, let's do this here. Here's what I would like to do is let's evaluate it as is. >> We can then potentially take a look at it if we've got consensus from the group to make that uh amendment. So, fair enough. Okay. >> No, I appreciate it. Okay. >> Anything else? >> Possible possible amendment. Is that okay to add just like >> Yes, that's right. Hey Dorothy, do you think we have to approve the dollars? >> Sorry. >> And leave it holding and then like you guys could say we approve these dollars if the extra time and the look at it and figuring it out works out and if it doesn't I could roll it into a percentage like 0.0000 like we put it towards all salaries or something. I mean that could be an like if it doesn't pan out the meat confer team approve the dollars to be spent on salaries we could do take that and roll it into all salaries or roll it into just classified.
We're waiting to get back a couple results but so far everybody is passing. So that was a great job for her program and and for those students. We also had our welding students go test last week at Ivy Tech. Mr. Studebaker we are still waiting on a couple results to come back there but he is pretty positive we have more than double the number of students that had passed from the last few years to this year. And again I attest that Mr. Studebaker has come in and he has really changed the culture in there and and and you can tell the kids are they are spot on and they're really learning a lot they're really doing a lot of cool stuff down there. They really are it's hands-on learning learning how to problem solve and critical thinking and all those. Um tomorrow [clears throat] Chloe Jordan we are going down to the Indiana ballroom rooftop I think it is.
I'm just saying there's options so you don't have to go away from it and worry about it getting off the table and not getting addressed later. >> Want it to come off the table. We want to have a mechanism like we've done before where a time period to collect some additional data with the details in it. We're not saying >> no >> we don't like it. We're saying we don't have enough information to know the impact this could have on the department and the interest level of trust. >> And you'd have to take contracts back to get that >> additional time. >> I'd say the dollars. >> Ariel, I think you had a comment first and then Joel, I'll come back to you. Oh, I was talking to Dorothy, but I want Oh, I I wasn't going to say it to the whole entire group, but I did say that the ASS department likes to throw a lot on the special education teachers with not enough time to actually implement what they want.
She's being awarded the an academic all-star for the ISA IASP Indiana Association of School Principals so she's being awarded and recognized with other students across the state. We had our prom that was we made a good rebound from winter formal we had 240 students there. It was hot. >> [clears throat] >> But the kids all had fun and you ought to see the kids come back the next on that Monday walking around because girls that have never worn heels before or not very often their calves that you can tell they're sore. They're walking so sore. Oh yeah I'm hurting. So it's kind of funny to see it but they they had a great time. April 9th our our freshman went to reality store in Peru. I I can I want to give a shout [clears throat] out to Peru because it was the best reality store we've had since I've been here.
But that's that's all I would say, but I was saying the door. >> Sounds like you need to be on the task force. >> I'm just saying. >> Okay, Joel. >> I was just going to uh affirm that. Yeah, we would have to go back and we'd have to adjust those contracts. Uh we would do that anyway with amendment or addendums, >> right, >> reflecting new salaries based on all the work that's happening here, right? >> Uh so that's that could be part of the process. Um I I I do know that the president of the governing board from the day mentioned sped as something that they were excited to see action on. So um I just want to add that to the mix. >> Okay. that that could apply to the stipen conversation as well. Amber, >> um I was wondering because I know there's a lot of um other stuff that has to be figured out if the teachers could be offered the special education teachers could be offered to work hourly out of this money on those days.
This is my third year and I think Rob you can attest it was a lot better than what we thought what we've seen so shout out to them. We attended IUK fair yesterday. You know we had one I had one high school person there the pro to that was he his favorite teacher was the student that did his student teaching under me so I said well you you want to learn from the best you know. >> [laughter] >> I also thought I think I knew his parents too. We didn't go into a lot of detail. So then we've got testing coming up. May let's see May 6th we've got AP physics exam May 7th we've got the I learn bio exam here between middle school and the high school. May 8th we are having commencement at Ivy Tech. Just so you know we found it out in the Canny Kushberger Kokomo Career Center has 13 pathways that they offer.
So like if they weren't interested in starting their school year earlier, they don't need to. But if they wanted to, um, I know it still gets into the logistics of who's making sure that they're actually doing work during those hours, but it would benefit like the teachers who really want that time and maybe they could help figure out what needs to be done during those extra hours. I I don't know if we can pay hourly stuff out of the same money. >> Okay. I know. >> Sounds like task force volunteers right here. All right, so let's do this. >> Um, what we're going to do, we're not we're just looking at column E, the fiscally responsible and sustainable standard. And we're going to evaluate each option. Remember, four is it fully align, three mostly aligns, two barely somewhat align. Uh, one not at all. Kelly's getting her >> calculator ready.
Maconaquah High School has eight pathways. They are the same that Kokomo Career Center offers and that's an attest attestment to our our staff the work that everybody does in trying [clears throat] to offer more for our students. You go talk to other other schools and I don't think our kids really watch what they have here at Maconaquah. You do not get that at at other schools so shout out to our teachers our staff that step up to do that. Because it's it is extra getting licensing getting taking classes and things like that so on May 8th Ivy Tech we're going to have that commencement. You've got 66 students that are being honored and they're earning 97 credentials. And if you don't know when you get a credential there is a there's monetary value to those credentials and that includes anything from [clears throat] welding construction to the the health care to the Indiana College Board like Ellen Plant was mentioning so so we've got that May 14th believe it or not senior awards from 1:00 to 3:00 and then we will have the academic end and that night at the school.
So, we're going to evaluate these options now that we have some additional information just with the fiscally responsible and sustainable. What I want you to think about when you think about fiscally responsible and sustainable is not just today, but you got to think about these things going and not just next year even, right? Because these are things that we're doing for next year, but you got to think about them through that lens. Sustainable means hopefully beyond one or two years. Okay? So four, remember, is most most agreement. One is little to none. Okay. So, the first option we're going to look at, I need everybody ready to go here, is evaluating this uh certified schedule repair. Is it fiscally responsible and sustainable? I'm looking for scores. >> You want me Do I call them out? Is that what I do? Four. Four. Four. Three. Four.
