What is everybody? It's working up here. Welcome back to the Colorado Sports Talk podcast. It's Stu Crew. We're coming for you. Today we got a non-sporty interview, but it is a pretty informative interview about Stu Crew. Um today I got two Stu Crew representatives with me today. I have Bradley Christensen. And Taryn Fischer. So I have a few questions for them today and uh we're going to get to know a little more about Stu Crew, why they wanted to join, and what's upcoming this coming week. Um to start off with you, right? Why did you want to join Stu Crew? Uh I joined Stu Crew because my sister was really into it and she said it was just a really good group to like be involved in in high school and just have fun with it. So. How about you, Taryn? Um I really like being involved and I'm really big on planning and so it's fun to plan all the events and it looks good on a resume.

I abstain. All right. Mr. Lay, you are up. >> I'm up. Okay. Good evening, everyone. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome to your great crowd. I'd like to start with the Um so, typically, uh during this part of the meeting is when we do our um student of the month awards, but we have a special presentation for the board here this evening, where we are going to recognize our educational um support professionals of the year, and also our teachers of the year.
Folks, we'd like to call this meeting to order and we're going to begin with a pledge and I've asked Jonathan Roloff, our superintendent, to lead us in the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Looks like we have a great turnout. I hope this is going to be aformational meeting for everybody. This is an open forum today that we won't be voting on anything. So there can be a conversation between the board and members. Uh we have an outline we'll be following. It'll be posted up so we can follow. Also, if you'd like to follow along, you can download the QR code and it'll go right to your phones to follow along with us. I'd like to excuse Margaret.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math. The STEAM style learning is all about hands-on. It's a lot of labs and projects and practical learning to see how those principles connect. How STEM, technology, engineering, art, and math are in the world all around us. One of the things I find so rewarding and enriching about a STEAM approach in the classroom is that it really does allow us to honor the whole child and engage learners of diverse backgrounds, diverse abilities, diverse interests. I really want to take the approach that this is a safe, fun, nurturing space where students can take risks and ask those big questions and understand that you know making mistakes is a part of learning and it's it's also a way we build community and grow together. What I want to be when I grow up is be an astronaut. When I grow up, I want to be an engineer because you can invent stuff.
It was like It was like back-to-back nights. Right? Right. Where'd they go? They're over there definitely. Oh, they're still standing down there. I asked them this morning. I was like, "Hey, do you guys want to go to a ball game?" They're like, "Yeah." >> [laughter] >> You guys good for today?" They're like, "Yeah." Good. We're going to stay. You don't have a choice. Okay, you would say the same thing if Going, going, going. Tag it up. Tag it up. Hit it. Good throw. Good throw. Nobody. I will. No, I'll go up there and do it. Natasha, that's what I said. I'll go up there and do it. I don't know how to push all the buttons. We'll figure it out. How old are you going to be? Go to see, take a breath, you're good. I'm going to go do it. They said Haley should do it, and Russ is the only one that said no.
I'll call the meeting to order and we'll start with the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I'll welcome everyone to the October meeting this evening. I'll remind everyone we are live streaming. So, welcome those who are joining us on the web as well. We'll start the meeting tonight with a motion to approve consent agenda. So moved. I have a motion by Pat. I have a second by Kurt.
[music] [screaming] >> Welcome to WACA TV special daytime edition of Ashland Girls High School Lacrosse. This is Kevin McGinnis. We have Mackie on the camera. We have Jeff down in the booth bringing you the game. Ashland welcomes the Shrewsbury Colonials into the game today, a non-league opponent. Coming with a record of three and three. Ashland with a four and three record. They have no common opponents, so it's going to be a little bit difficult to understand how they match up with each other, but there's no reason to expect this wouldn't be a very close game. It's the fourth year in a row they two schools have participated against each other. Ashland winning the last two, Shrewsbury winning one. All are very close games, so we would expect nothing less than that here today. Ashland and Shrewsbury both taking the field. Maggie McGinnis will be on the draw for Ashland.
Yes, yes it does indeed. Um yeah. I was in Stu Crew for 2 years, first 2 years here. Very fun, very great. Wish I did all 4 years, but how the turns table. I don't know. I loved it. It was great. Um uh but what are your uh roles in Stu Crew? Um this year we are junior representatives, but next year I will be president. And I will be vice president. That sounds like a lot more responsibility uh but it sounds fun. Um sounds like you guys are going to be leaders of Stu Crew and have a lot to uh work on um within the student council and it'll be fun. Uh but uh tell me about that. Um call I mean I I went to a few like two conferences. Tell me about conferences and then I know you two went to camp as well.
So, before we even get into that, let's do a round of applause for how great THEY ALL ARE. WE HAD A WE HAD A LOT OF REALLY great uh choices. Unfortunately, each year we can only pick one person from each category uh from each school, uh but we're really looking forward to having uh this this um vote again next next school year to recognize more great people. All right, we are going to start with our award winners from the middle school, okay? So, here's what's going to happen. Just like I tell the kids when we do student awards, when I say your name and introduce you, come on up here and awkwardly stand next to me so that I can speak about you. Um and then once we do uh once we have both um people announced, then we'll go we'll take a picture together, okay?
uh her sister passed away and they're having a memorial for her in Texas. So, she's had had to be excused. So, I'm going to turn the time over here to our superintendent and he's going to walk us through this. Good evening everybody and thank you for coming. Uh you know, we never were sure quite how many people would show up, but we're we're glad to have people here. Um, and we're glad to present what we're thinking and hear everybody else's opinions as well. So, I just want to thank everybody for coming and because this is a very important thing for our community. Um, what we're going to do tonight is um, Mary's making copies of the agenda. They will be available on the QR code and online as well. So, um, but we'll have paper copies too if you want to take notes and and take a look.
I want to be a teacher and an architect. When I grow up, I want to be a nurse. When I grow up, I would like to be a scientist. What I want to be when I grow up is an engineer.
Why? Cuz he didn't want me to sing the national anthem. I said, "I got that." >> [laughter] >> What game are you guys watching? That thing's hard. Come on, kids. Start something here. Good job, Shelby. Thanks. Thank you. Good hit. Good hit. Yeah. Hey, good hit. Good hit. on, Emma. Play. Go on. See what you can do with it. Number 24, Emma Armstrong. Excuse me. This is my idea. Actually, I tried to find Dennis. Relax. Go, Emma. >> Number 12, Carmen David. Or stay there. Uh-oh, Emma. Or Natasha. Why do you go, Hailey? Come on, party foul. Party foul. Hailey, I unplugged it. You got fired. Who was the one who started it? One of us started it. Well, I'm sorry. I got mad. Give me my phone. Oh, fine. I'll give it to You unplugged it. I thought I did. He said, "No, I didn't." Come on, Joe Joe.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we'll move down to community non-agenda items. I believe we have a presentation. We do. Sand Creek Elementary is here with their drama club. So, Susie Webster, principal, and Cindy Law, assistant principal, soon-to-be principal, >> Yes. have brought a presentation for us. So, we are excited to get to this point at Sand Creek that we get to bring our drama club in and present. Um we're so lucky. Mrs. Dow, come on in. Um she is one of our sponsors. We have three sponsors and a student high school student that's also here. Um Mrs. Dow's daughter, Alyssa, that helps with our drama club this year and they are getting ready to do their spring performance. I'll let Mrs. Dow talk a little more about that. All right. Um actually, Ellie's going to do a lot of the talking about our spring performance, but um it is Cinderella, If the Shoe Fits, um May 7th at Sand Creek.
Paige uh excuse me, Payton Tripp will be on the circle along with uh number one. Draw comes. Payton is first to the ball, not able to collect it, and Shrewsbury comes away with it. That's number 17, Paige O'Donnell coming up the field. Quickly getting into their offense. Into the middle, they weren't able to connect. Quickly swept to Alana Duffy, who has the ball and now will look for a clear. It's beautiful day here today, but it is a little breezy up here in the booth. May be able to hear that the wind howling. See it Callahan can't come up with the ball, and Shrewsbury comes back into their offense. Streaking down. But good defense by Ashland, Julia Frias on the ball to the outside. Shrewsbury working it around. Once again, number 17, Paige O'Donnell with the ball. Flips to Lauren Albertson. But once again, without getting a clean shot off, Alana Duffy able to scoop up the ball, and Ashland will look to clear yet again.
So tell me about uh camp as well. So camp is every summer. We both went last year, but we aren't going this year, sadly. And um it's how many days? Like 4 days or something? And you're roomed up with a random person, random school. That was very out of our comfort zone. We did not like separating. But it was really fun. We got together all day. Me and Taryn had breakfast together every morning to like debrief about everything. But, camps had a ton of different like activities for us to do and just to get to know other schools and like what they did in their Stu Go. And we learned a lot from a ton of different a ton of different schools. Um conferences happen every fall and all Stu Go members go. And we just have a bunch of workshops, but next year we're hosting.
All right, first our support professional of the year, Ms. Borgstrom, come on up. HER NAME IS BROOKE. CONGRATULATIONS. MRS. BORGSTROM IS AN essential and deeply valued member of the DDE Middle School community, consistently going above and beyond to support students and staff alike. She creates a welcoming, safe space in the school library where every student feels seen, supported, and encouraged to learn. Known for her kindness and energy, she builds strong relationships with students, knows them by name, and takes the time to understand their interests, often recommending books they genuinely enjoy. She also uh listens to student input, ensuring the library reflects their voices, and even provides small but meaningful supports like snacks and flexible access to the space during lunch and recess. >> snacks, guys. That usually does the trick. Better than cash these days. Um in addition to her connection with students, Mrs. Borgstrom plays a vital role in the academic success of the school.
But the QR code is available if you want to follow along. The presentations will be posted, but if you wanted to take a second look at them later, um it's very important. Um and I want to kick off with our reason for meeting tonight. Um you know, when I was younger, I always respected Blige. Like Blige was kind of the gold standard in the state of Arizona for a lot of things. And even though I grew up uh you know on the other side of the state, seeing Blige doing well in football and academics and Blige was kind of a small town, amazing place to be. And you know, growing up in the valley, I knew um that Blige was a place of excellence. Um and so when I came in and I applied for the job, I knew that that was my mission to come in here and make sure that the excellence was continuing to happen at Blige.
