None of those showers have their own wheelchair accessible in there. I think >> I think ones, >> Michael, those those two locker rooms that are ADA compliant were upgraded to last bond because they were falling down. >> Those those are original to the school locker rooms. >> Those were remodeled. So, it can be done >> and they're nice. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> But I I will say this and because I think we're seeing it now, even with those locker rooms, they're already starting to show wear, I think, because they don't get used very often. um spec specifically the showers and um and I feel like a lot of our like those pictures that you see they look so bad because nobody has used them in probably 20 years um and so they just sitting they're just sitting there you know this the toilets they don't use the toilets >> I actually do have one correction to my previous statement um so I do believe the girls locker room off of the main gym It's more ADA compliance privacy >> and there is the privacy issues and those showers do seem to be in slightly better condition than say >> the boys locker room.
Joy of Giving, $4,500 to the Hope Food Program. Premier Sports Group LLC, uh boxes of t-shirts for student needs. And the Sand Creek Elementary, Decatur County REMC Operation Roundup, $3,084.50 to support the mystery science for hands-on learning. Will entertain a motion to approve those donations as read. So moved. Motion by Pat. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Kurt.
You notice Emma Childs entered the game for Ashland there on defense. She is a a call-up from JV. Alana tried to clear it out to Payton Trip. They couldn't connect. Ball goes out of bounds. Shrewsbury will get it. We have about 20 seconds left in the quarter. Almost a last-second goal there by Shrewsbury. Couldn't quite connect. That was a nice pass by O'Donnell hitting a streaking cutter. Couldn't catch the number. Wasn't able to connect, but Shrewsbury maintains their eight-goal lead here going into the fourth quarter. Anything more than a seven-goal win for any team is important in the power rankings. That's the most value you can get for goal differential, so Shrewsbury will be eyeing that number. I'm sure they'll want to keep their lead above seven. Ashland, the flip side of that would be beneficial for them to have a a loss should it occur to be less than seven-goal loss.
Um, I do a ton of work like that at my school. Um, I've done a lot with Tammy here at Peace even though I'm not on the board anymore. Um, you know, we'll still run ideas through each other and, you know, anything that I can help volunteer for, I'm here. The Santa event is a great thing that we worked really hard on. Um, I couldn't go to the bubble parade, but, you know, a lot of things a lot of good things that I just would like to be able to bring a lot of what I do at my school um, here. Just because I feel like once upon a time where I work, we didn't do a lot of community things and now we're like really trying to get the community involved. So. Um, what do you see as the role of a school board member?
I don't know if that's a female versus male >> destroying ability or not, but uh for some reason the girls locker room does uh have some nicer showers in the moment. So, if the privacy issues were corrected, do you feel like I mean those rooms are going to be used or are we going to be spending money fixing them and them still not being used? >> That might be a good question for Coach Kluff. Do you feel like if we were to update the lock or coach Hamlin? I don't know. Do if we updated the locker room and had privacy and showers available, is that something the students would use? I know when I was in high school, it was mandatory. We took a shower and we had those old ones and you know you were standing next to your teammates which a little uncomfortable what kids the these days wouldn't do but if we had I I think if it's something that we encouraged or was culturally acceptable right now or we had the time in the day you would see probably more kids shower.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we're down to property, the 2026 secured entrance contract. Yes, the I'm recommending that the board reject all bids because of the low number of bidders, and all bids that were turned in came in significantly over budget, and to authorize a future rebid. Will entertain a motion to approve that recommendation. So moved. Motion by Chelsea. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Mary Lynn.
The other number we look at is 10. Talked about a little bit earlier. Once it gets to a 10-goal lead, that means running clock. So, the clock continues to run after goals and and during infractions to speed up the game. Ashland come into the game with a four and three record having beaten North Andover, Bellingham, Holliston, and Dedham, >> [clears throat] >> and having lost to Hopkinton, Dover-Sherborn, and Medfield. Medfield, Dover-Sherborn look excellent this year. Hopkinton, too. Uh all teams that are likely to be on the higher end of seeding in their respective divisions. Each of the games that Ashland has won, they've scored double digits. This game, obviously, they're at at six goals. Still an opportunity to get to double digits, but the likelihood of of winning without double digits in any game is is remote. Certainly in this one, it's going to take a lot more than that.
Um, not so much managing like the day-to-day. Like when I think of school board member, I think of like policy. I think of like being financially responsible with a budget. I think of community. I think of, you know, evaluating your superintendent. Sorry, Mr. Lee. Yeah, everybody gets evaluated. Yes, uh I'm done for the year, so, but, you know, not I don't know if you are, but I am. Um, so those are really like the things that I think of, not so much like the micromanaging and the little daily things that happen. Um, that's more of what I think of, just those kind of areas. I see. You've touched on this one a little bit already, but please describe your previous community or nonprofit experience. Um so definitely peace. Um like I said um as far as community, I mean I go to a lot of the community events.
We we have some kids that come from Koncho or McNary or like even White River that that don't have running water at home. So there's there's a couple kids we have on the year where we we have to get some kids some showers. We normally do that in coach's offices. Um we I know that in the main gym um off the varsity locker room, I don't think they've showered in there in quite some time. I know the showers over here on East Campus haven't been used. I know that our visitor locker rooms are used by opposing teams to shower when they come, but definitely not our kids. Um, I know that in the year that I got here last year in 24-25, our female wrestlers were wrestling in the morning and they were using those showers before they had to go in the day. It was just for our our coach, Coach Navaro, that was coaching at the time.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Next we'll go down to operations, the comprehensive systems for support for schools and faculty. Yes, asking for approval for comprehensive systems of support for schools. This is Brandon Penrod, who we've worked with before. He is going to help us with the study that we discussed about operational effectiveness, which could include, if enrollment continues to drop, studying what we would need to do with possible redistricting or even possible school closure if warranted and needed. So, he will gather data for us, legalities, and put that all together into a complete study and presentation, and bring that back and present it. Um this is a limited engagement, and as you can see, has a two does not exceed total. So, asking for approval. So moved. Um motion to approve by Travis. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Cheryl.
The other hand, their losses, the most they scored was seven. That was against Hopkinton with only two against Medfield and Dover-Sherborn again. All quality teams. Quarter four about to start. Ashland going to try Forster on the draw again. This team is going back and forth between Forster and McGinnis. Hoping that something will work so far. Nico Welsh has done an outstanding job on the draw and prevented Ashland from getting a whole lot of them. Maggie McGinnis goes for that one, goes down. But Ashley Forster is able to come away with the draw after that little collision. Early had the ball behind the net out to McGinnis. To Marseglia. Peyton Trip whips it into the middle. Great pass. McGinnis couldn't convert, but that was a terrific pass on a nice cut. I think she'd like to have that one back. That was a open net. You're not going to have too many opportunities like that one.
Um we had uh the tree lighting. I usually go to that. Um uh the thing that Oh, I can't think of it. There's a fall the Halloween. We've done that. Like I feel like I'm always, you know, lugging the kids somewhere. Like come on, we got to go. Um because they love it, too, you know, and I think them seeing, you know, teachers and different community members out just like blows their mind. Like if I run into one of my students somewhere, like like, "Oh my gosh, you don't live in our classroom." And I'm like, "No, I sure don't." Like I get out. Um I don't know. I think just building that connection where they can see, you know, that it's not just in these four walls of a school, you know. We can all come together. My daughter just volunteered with the mayor. Um they did their little trip to clean up and I heard all about that.
That was his schedule. He could be here in the morning. But I can tell you that the gra the gross majority of our kids don't shower. They don't shower here. >> I had five kids K through 12 here. I don't think one of them ever took a shower here. >> I mean, obviously for camps and stuff, I mean, if they're staying overnight, they're they're going to want showers, but our kids just go home. So >> that was actually one of the concepts is if we were going to bring sports camps, if that was an option and if that was an avenue that the district was going to pursue that we have 3 to 400 teenage boys playing football day in day out for a week with our facilities. We would definitely need to have showers available if that was an avenue the district went in.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we have the fourth annual Muscaduck Race. So, it's that time of year again. Coach Sigler and her assistants and the team and parents um would like to repeat this successful event this year. Okay. Will entertain a motion to approve. So moved. Motion by Kurt. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Pat.
Hickey tries to hit a cutter early, not able to connect. McGinnis able to scoop it up, then lost it. Ashland trying yet again. Great effort by Payton Trip to collect the ball back. The effort is certainly there for Ashland. They are still going after those ground balls with everything they have. Peyton Trip tries to get in. Shrewsbury defense collapses on her, not able to get very far. Now, Erin Hickey with the ball. Trip to Callahan. Erin Hickey makes a cut, was covered, so Callahan does a good job in not forcing anything in there. Ashley Forster may try her luck here with the drive, as she does. Gets into the middle. Gets a good shot off, but a good save. However, Ashland will get a free shot. I don't I'm sorry. Maybe they called it a dangerous propel. Not quite sure what happened there. Or crease violation.
And, you know, my daughter's super involved with NJHS and volunteering and, you know, anything that she can do to volunteer. So Um what areas would you like to strengthen in our district? Um hm I definitely would love to see just more of what we're doing, you know, like more you know, I know night events are hard, you know. Sometimes you don't have people wanting to come out at night. Teachers don't necessarily want to come back, but, you know, just doing the few events that I do at my school at night, the look on those kids' faces when they get to come out and see you in a different environment. We have staff dressing up like astronauts and who's doing, you know, a bounce house. Like, I think just those kinds of things, just building more community involvement, I would, you know, love that. We have, like I said, a huge spring spectacular, and I think almost every student and teacher group is setting up a table.
And once again, I actually see that as the district making an investment on itself. If we are able to have good bathrooms, good showering facilities, districts from the valley that have nice facilities because they've got nice stuff. Um, if we had that, we would help bring the draw and continue. I think it would be an interest in the district in that rep >> and maybe that's something if we decide or as a board if you decide that that's something we don't want on the scope of this bond. You know, maybe as we get football camps going and stuff. I know that um or or athletic camps. I know Coach Kloff has talked about making money on those camps and infusing them back into the school system. So that that might be one of the projects that we could look at with with the camp money if we thought that that would be not a wise use of bond money.
Any discussion? All those in favor? 7-0. Um next we have a facility assessment contract approval. Yes, the Madison Board to approve a facility assessment contract. Uh this is to have a full facility assessment performed by Gorman Miller at all locations. The last time we performed this was 2019, and it was a only a partial assessment. This is vital in being able to make future decisions uh pertaining to the school restructure / closure if needed, and the bonding for new debt as it replaces some of our old debt. This study will be paid for with the 2024 bond, and this study will support our long-term debt planning and bonding. Will entertain a motion for approval. So moved. I have a motion by Mary Lynn. Do I have a second? Second. Second by Kurt.
Shrewsbury gets the ball down quickly. Shot by Nico Welsh, wide. They will maintain possession. Paige O'Donnell not able to connect. Shrewsbury maintains possession. Good quick move into the middle and a goal. It is Sophie Ondovcik. I'm not quite sure how to pronounce it, but extends the lead to nine for Shrewsbury. Just under nine minutes to go. Couple of sub- substitutions for Ashland. Uma Mohan entered the game. Couple of younger players who are normally on the junior varsity are participating today with Ashland because of the Maggie McGinnis goes down after collecting the draw control. She's okay. She pops back up. Quickly gets it over to Payton Trip, who is engulfed quickly, but got it over to Early, and now Ashland can hopefully set up. Marseglia around the corner able to get by her defender and and draw a shooting space violation for the other defender who came over and tried to prevent her from getting to goal.
So, just if kids can see you outside of school, um as hard as it is some days, like I do not feel like going back to work sometimes at night, but you know, just them coming in the next day and "I saw you last night." Or "That was so cool that, you know, you got to put tattoos all over your arms for whatever." You know, they they love that. So, I definitely think just more of what we're already doing would be amazing. Um I know we're working on the absenteeism. I'm even doing that with my own kids, you know, they get up in the morning, "Oh, I don't want to go." You know, and I'm like, "Come on, we got to, you know, we got to work together. We got to do it." Um And I think just getting as many more people involved as we can.
