Congratulations, Shannon. Becky Lockwood Math teacher Becky Lockwood encourages her students bringing out the best in each of them. Outside of being there to guide students academically, she helps them navigate the complexities of junior high school. She's a great listener and makes her students excited about the real-world application of what they learn in school. As shared by a parent she does an incredible job getting to know her students and knows how to inspire them in ways that foster a love of learning. Congratulations, Becky. Michael Appley Science teacher Michael Appley's positive energy and contagious smile sets a positive tone throughout his building. His reliability is something known and appreciated by both students and fellow staff members. His support of students extends beyond the school day and he makes an effort to show up at different events. A student stated he is always able to brighten up students' moods even when he doesn't feel 100% himself.
We did have them at the we did on Monday. And I >> did you need a copy? I have a copy of them here. >> Okay. I thought we um agreed to table it to um and just go with what the the um traditional Monday night schedule. >> Okay. Just so the record can reflect, it's that's typically the third and fourth Monday with a couple of adjustments due to holidays that fall on Mondays. Um and that full schedule for the Monday uh holidays was in the committee of the whole packet. Okay. >> For the Monday uh meetings rather. >> Okay. Um so may I have a motion to approve the meeting dates as um on the traditional Monday the 3rd and fourth Monday of the month unless um there is a holiday for the fiscal year 2627 as presented in the uh cow um packet.
So, thank you for being the best of Avon. Um, do you want to introduce your parents that you have with you? >> [laughter] >> Hi mom and dad. Um, this is Andrea, my mom, and this is my little brother Logan, and this is my dad, Jed. Hi. Logan, are you the basketball player? Okay, cool. We'll see you next, okay? This is my dad, Scott. Thank you, parents, for raising exceptional kids. Um, I'm excited to see your guys' future in high school and continued in middle school. So, congratulations. Well, every uh adult in this room will vouch for what I'm about to say. There's a lot of good habits and a lot of bad habits that we all pick up along the way. The key is to have a lot more good habits than bad habits and it can make for a pretty good life. And the three of you have already started some important habits.
My, uh, favorite teacher, this is a hard one. This is a hard one. I'll have to say Mrs. Steel from biology uh, at New Tech. she kind of was such a cheerleader always to anyone uh who showed up to her class and was just so excited about fostering a love of learning uh lifelong for everyone. And then my favorite high school memory. Um, so New Techch requires a job shadow during our half days. And, uh, when I was a junior, I was able to job shadow on the, uh, Columbus, uh, IU Lifeline helicopter, which was an awesome experience and really kind of helped me figure out what I wanted to do career-wise, and I was really glad that I was able to take advantage of that. >> Hello, thank you for having me here today. My name is Paige Fininky and after high school I plan to go to Murray State University and I will be studying criminal justice with the plan of pursuing investigative genetic genealogy.
And and we feel like that's a benefit to us for that same reason I mentioned in the previous meeting. The more kids we get in a setting that feels like school, >> [cough] >> the better off our kinder I think our kinder teachers will be more than willing to stay for that. They want more kids in pre-K than our lost. Was that all your Was that your three questions? Thank you. Thank you. Okay, we'll move on to action items. Discussion from Barry. Yeah, so I I've uh you know, Mr. Knipper talked about losing sleep, and I've lost a little bit of sleep over this, and I too I'm a little worried about this. Um I I kind of feel like that that uh the safest proposal, the safest recommendation I can make is to close the building and do it over a year. Uh my rationale for that is not because I don't think the building needs to be closed because I I do think it needs to be closed eventually.
We hope the savings is more than that. $250,000. So, I kind of add on to my original question. So, if we leave Wolf Lake open for one more year, uh, do we have money to cover unexpected things that would come up if something big would happen that we would need? Would we still be okay on that end with it being kind of a tight budget at that point? And that's part of my big push this year to try to conserve as much rainy day funds as possible, um, >> [clears throat] >> is to have those rainy day funds in place if we do have a true emergency. I know the geothermal has come up in conversation for the primary. >> [cough] >> Will that be okay for another year should that be the route? We would be taking a gamble there. Um, I have been having some conversations, and you know, we're coming to the end of that useful life of the geothermal.
That's it. Yeah. Dan Dommer. Mason Urbini. Iris Estrada. Allie Landgrave. Devion Alton Anna Sorcy and Payton Spargo. >> We could ask the Excalibur yearbook team to come in, please. Thank you for coming out this evening. I'm going to ask your sponsor Lisa King to join me and help me out after I read your commendation. You guys have a a large group and that's excellent. So, make sure everybody gets their award. And uh Hopefully you don't mind saying something about your your journey, accomplishments of the of the team, but I'll Let me get started with this here. So, your resolution of accommodation, the Crown Point Board of School Trustees is honored to commend the Crown Point High School Excalibur yearbook for meritorious achievement. Be it hereby resolved that the Board of School Trustees for the Crown Point Community School Corporation wishes to express sincere congratulations to the Crown Point High School Excalibur yearbook staff for receiving the 2024-2025 Hoosier Star award, the highest award in the state, and first through third in place in the Rowena Harvey awards at the Indiana High School Press Association competition.
I was going to go right to that and pick that up, too. >> [laughter] >> I was right on the cusp >> [clears throat and cough] >> No. Mhm. You'll see the balance in all funds And then messenger package for us to be in balance all of our accounts. And we can first. Of course, we always have 400 on to school lunch the regular And then we also full transfer for March 700,000 And then we're going to go to page F34 As I told you last month we pretty much extended So, I went uh we have So, the only thing that we got here is the original for um uh routine which are best. We are coming to So, um we are going a bit of a balance Mr. Dennis But, essentially it's a good total balance And then finally um you have the detailed >> [clears throat] >> report for June 2026.
Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. Aye. Aye. Opposed? Same sign? Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Park, while we have you present, one of the things we look forward to annually is a little bit of discussion and some I guess to talk about your trip to Florida. So, we appreciate each year you taking the kids and I know Dr. Park shows that as well with you, but we look forward tonight to hearing how their trip went and some of the things the kids have learned. So, I thank them for being here as well tonight. Well, most of you know, I bring people so that I don't have to tell about it. And so, you don't want to hear about my experience through that. But, a couple things I do want to say since I do have the mic right now. First of all, after having done this trip for 4 years now, we want to thank the school board and the school corporation, the upper administration for believing in us and trusting in us to give our students a once-in-a-lifetime experience and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which we believe we do um at a at a cost that is accessible to our students.
>> [applause] [applause] >> Next, we'll have our girls undefeated seventh grade MIC and Marion County champions. >> [applause] >> Head coach, Katie Stevenson, assisted by Austin Sanders, Kalia Sanders, Alexis Talley, Anaya Harris, Kenya Harris, Maya Heise, Savannah Brown, Grace Lobe, Cadence Ramey, Kenzie Bean, Myla Ash, Isabelle Gaydou, and Kenzie Bean. >> [applause] [applause] >> Last but not least, our eighth grade Mick boys basketball champions coached by Byron Davis, DeWhite Bowen, Highthorp Beard, Demone Newbank, Desmond Rhodes, Kevon Sargent, Dylan Wise, Darren Boyd, Zion Miller, Levin Robinson, Justin Richardson, Corey Simmons, Dominic Hollowell, and Brian Lazo. We also have a wrestling Mick champ in Cameron Carter. >> [applause] [applause] >> My name is Mosey Barnes, athletic director Lawrence Central High School, and I'm here to recognize our winter sport athletes amazing accomplishments starting with girls wrestling. Girls wrestling was back-to-back sectional champions this starting headed by our coach Nick Haddix.
Payton trip with control. Got Aaron Hickey over there. Another one of our juniors. That's number one. Alyssa Marcio, one of our freshman, one of our many freshman over here on varsity. Coach Katie has done an incredible job with this team over the years. And you know, Ashen only has two seniors. Lily Vidy and Ashley Forester. Um, both four-year starters, four-year varsity players, I should say. But they have Ashlin has a really good, deep, young crew over here. Uh, not only freshman, but a bunch of eighth graders that are kind of getting ready to play. Some of them are helping out with the JV team as well. So, a lot of excitement going on for Ashland sports, especially on the girls lacrosse. Good pass from Aaron Hickey. I think that is to Maggie McInness. Good defense by Westwood. That is Ashley Forester taking the uh cut over there.
He's got two Bellingham players on him right now. It's like he's just toying with him. Pass it off to Atwood as Hartnett's coming in. >> Yeah, the Raiders are just trying to kill the penalty right here. >> Oh, doing a good job. Don't see any rushing like, you know, no rush to do anything else. Yep. So, Raiders working it around. Going in, Fowler scores. Cam Fowler. an absolute killer when he's on his game and as you can see there and here, he's on his game today. >> Yeah, it's a nice day right now. It's uh good weather for these boys. 65, sunny. Little wind, but nothing bad. >> Yeah, it's nice in the sun. Sweatshirt weather if you're kind of just hanging or >> the mix, but >> Nice clear skies. None of those artificial clouds. >> I don't see any right now. >> Nope, me neither.
Green with the ball looking to come from the side that she has twice already today. Hannah Eddie marking her up. Good job by Hannah Eddie turns around. Good. Good kick [cheering] save by Julia Gray comes loose and Hannah Eddie comes up with it. Hannah Eddie seemed Daylight. She goes by one, two, keep counting. Three. Hannah Eddie, good job. Gets the ball over to Emma Crim. Emma Crims has just one more defender to go. Throws it in. Julie Ellingsworth there to back it up. Turns around, does a little spin. Nothing there. Spartley pulls out and Spartans looking to >> kill the clock and let Pelgro go back in or Whitward doing a little twoman. Now you're going to get doubled up. Yeah. Ke says here you go Mackey. Mackey turns around goes through one two pulls back. Nothing there. Northampton choosing not to double up. Spartan even though they're down a player and then they do and they get the ball over to Mckne looking to get doubled up again.
>> Question. >> I'm sorry. >> For the superintendent. Um for the because this the grant is reimburseable once the transfer is done. >> Um does the money that that is transferred to the capital skills grant have or capital improvement line item have to be spent by the end of the fiscal year? This fiscal year or the next fiscal year? uh was already spent. >> So it would be reimbursed just >> reimbured for what we already spent. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thank you. >> Yep. >> Any further questions? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Okay. Donations. I see none. articles. We have one article. Uh Mr. Lavoy visited the state house. Can you tell us about that, Mr. Lavoy? >> This was >> clean energy. >> So, I spoke to this, but I think it was about 6 weeks ago.
Um I just found out about this meeting about 2 hours ago. So, I haven't prepared anything. Rather, I wanted to make a statement as a former educator and counselor in a different district for more than a decade. I appreciate very much the difficulty that the board the board takes on. This is a I I think a thankless job, um and a very high-profile job. My concern as an educator and a parent and concerned community member is the budget this upcoming budget, and it has come to my attention that the board is considering making a $500,000 reduction in the budget before it can even come to the table. I may be wrong in that, but my concern is about where these cuts may come from. And our teachers right now are working, as I'm sure you're very well aware, they're working a lot with less, and to ask them to work harder with less is a great concern for me.
Her passion inspires Her passion reminds us all why preschool education is so important and why great teachers deserve to be celebrated. Please join me in congratulating GPPA1's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Mary Rowan. >> [applause and cheering] [applause] >> Thank you, Mr. Melky. Uh, number four, Mr. Wilson. >> Good evening, members of the board. Good Good evening, everybody. My name is Jeff Wilson. I'm the principal of Washington Irving School number four. And I'm especially proud to recognize our teacher of the year. She is someone I had the privilege of hiring. She came out of uh, the Newark public schools a number of years back. From her very first day, she stepped into a resource role that required co-teaching across multiple classrooms. Often having to navigate very challenging situations, but always with professionalism and grace. What stands out most to me is how dependable she is.
We want those parents to volunteer, but sometimes that doesn't work out. So, our high school students have helped with our school dances, our hot chocolate run. Their willingness to give their time and energy has made a huge impact and we are incredibly grateful for their help. I would also like to give a special thanks to Ms. Ann Hiltonbrand. She is um my point of contact at As We Go High School um and she has really made this um connection and work effortless and seamless. Um I sent her the sign-up links and she takes care of the rest. Um I get all these notifications about uh students wanting to help us. Um another highlight that I would like to share is one of my favorite initiatives at uh Plank Junior High through the HSA. That is our teacher grant program. Each year we allocate, we the HSA, allocate $3,000 to support our teachers for classroom needs.
Congratulations, Michael. And any building administrators? Ms. Francis, come on up. A final round of applause for Traughber. Let's have one final round of applause. Thank you to the families and colleagues who are here tonight to support our winners. Our final round of Pride Awards for the 2025-2026 school year will be recognized at the May 11th board meeting. >> [snorts] >> All right, I'm going to be uh Next item is our action item 5.1 approval of building administrator contract. Can I have a motion, please? I make a motion to approve the building administrator contract as discussed and presented. Second.
>> So moved. Second discussion roll call. >> Julie Jetty, >> yes. >> Stacy Salt, >> yes. >> Jason's absent. Katherine Potter, >> yes. >> Bridget Sandlin, >> yes. >> Mindy Hartman, >> yes. >> Darling, >> yes. >> Okay. Open forum. Um, we had one foyer quest request and this is in your packets. Okay. Um, board members u comments open forum. U Mrs. Darling. >> Um, I have I have nothing um this week. Thank you. Okay. >> Um, Mrs. salt. >> Uh, I have a couple things. Um, this weekend, Three Oaks installed its final playground. Um, and as I was walking my dogs back there, I'm amazed that all the parents who just give so much time and energy to putting in these playgrounds in in the past couple years. Um, so I just want to give the PTO and all those parents a huge shout out.
Habits like being involved and trying hard and being diligent and saying, "I want to have a lot of parts to my life." And that's a great habit you're developing. Keep it up because I tell you what, you're you're You must all be about 14 now, right? 14 and soon you'll be 28 and soon you'll be 56. It just doubles real quickly, but I'll tell you, suddenly uh suddenly um you'll look back on your life when you get to those bigger numbers and you'll say, "I wonder why my life turned out like it did." And a lot of it has to do with the habits that you developed right now. So, congratulations, but more importantly, congratulations. Keep it up. We can't wait to see more of you and all the good things you'll do in high school. I'll just add that I'm quite impressive that your principal has memorized all your extensive list of activities or I as I wrote down on my notes, your resume.
