Um my f so new has been a very important school to me and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to go to such a unique place. um my the every single class was amazing and so um all teachers were very dedicated but I also think I would have to say Mrs. steel. Um, she I'm currently in foraging and survival and it's a really unique experience and so I love that class. And my favorite club that I've been a part of, I'm uh was in Council for Youth Development last year and they connected to me to a lot of different organizations in the community. So that's been a very important part of my high school. >> Thank you. Heat. Heat. Congratulations, Paige and Ren. Uh, Mrs. Hester, our top 10 for Columbus North High School. Please come on up. Good evening. We do have nine of our top 10 here.
Um but I think that there are some unknowns. I I would like to talk even about uh the use of the primary building after uh it's closed and and moving things in that building. We have to maintain a 50% presence in that building. I don't want stuff just shoved in that building to say we're using 50% of it. I think we have to have a plan for that. Um I think moving the staff, um although I think if you folks decided tomorrow that we could do it in one in one summer or ask us to do that, think we could. Um, in fact, I know we could cuz teachers are uh, flexible and they make it happen. Um, but I also think that that's not necessarily in anybody's best mental health interest. Um, and so, uh, that would be my recommendation that we would go ahead and move the closing of the building and do it in the fall of 27.
We're we're not there yet. I think they gave us about 15 years is what they said. We're we would be, I think, year 14 next year, year 15. So, we would be taking a gamble. Um, but it could go out tomorrow. I mean, sure, yeah. Yeah, the bottom line is that could have happened already. So, I think I think anytime we do and you know, you I think, Tyler, you asked a question about could we get through if we had unexpected emergencies? The answer to that is yes, kind of. I mean, you know, not not if we lost an entire building to to something, you know, if we had a fire or something like that, we would be in trouble. But, I think we have planned you folks have had you folks have been had pretty good foresight in terms of that rainy day fund and and keeping that at a reasonable number.
The Board of School Trustees publicly recognizes this achievement, renders it permanently to its minutes to be preserved for public posterity dated this 27th day of April, 2026. Um So, congratulations. You guys all deserve a round of applause for your accomplishments. Ms. Keen, would you give us a couple words about >> Absolutely. Uh so, I'm really proud of this staff. They made all their deadlines, and we keep adding to the book. The book just just keeps getting bigger. Our population is getting bigger, and we're selling more books than ever, uh about 500 more books than we did um when I took over 15 years ago, and it's just uh just keeps growing. We're fortunate to have two classes of yearbook now, and then we have editors hour, so our program keeps growing, and the skills that they're learning now, it's not just the writing, the photography, the design.
And as you can see And as you can see here, um we show all the expenditures. And then we're showing the balance as of March um 21st of 2026. You can see that we got 112,000 77,005. And as Mr. Dennis explained the balance like projects that type of thing. So, there's a lot of stuff. >> Okay.
And so, thank you for that. Um the uh if you go to the next slide, Cindy. Um one of the things that we did this year that we typically haven't done in the past is put together a list of firsts that students have experienced. And so, if you look at the slide there, um our students this year in particular got to experience a lot of new things. And one of the things that we pride ourselves here at Huntington North High School is giving kids new experiences and new opportunities. And so, for a lot of us, we think, you know, riding on a plane, you go through security and it's a big deal. Uh for a student who's never done that before, it's a big deal. Um and you can see that uh Dr. Parker and I are very pleased and proud to give kids the experience of a lot of firsts, and you'll hear about one of those tonight.

Maggie passes it to that might be Elisha. Yep. Over to Payton trip looking for some cutters over there. Going in the back to Maggie McInness, number 14. Another one of our junior captains. Nice job by Maggie McGinness. Good assist by Payton Trip. Maggie first goal. That is uh also goal number 70 for Maggie in point number 96 in her Ashlin career. Got a 4-2 game over here. Pretty competitive. Again, I think to me, just my little I know about lacrosse, definitely not an expert like my man uh Kevin McGinness and Jamie Trip, who uh Kevin, I'll give a quick shout out to Kevin McInness. He went solo yesterday. I'm uh I get the honor of going solo, so I get to talk to my best friend, which I guess is myself. Got Maggie. And again, it's tough to see the Westwood jersey number, so I apologize for the Westwood listeners.
It's nice. All right, here we go. Coming up the sideline is Seagull. Seagull looking good. I feel like he's getting nice and confident out there. Seagull is just a ninth grader. And as we know, this Raider team is full of very skilled ninth graders. >> Yeah, they really are. It's insane actually. This is Hamilton send with it. The big senior. >> Pass it off to Cavaliero. Cavaliero with a nice pass and just missing on that bounce shot was Abrams. >> And let's let's say the one thing that these freshmen don't have which you can't teach is size. So, I'm sure they'll grow into it. But the skill set is there. >> Yep. I just a matter of time. Olsen, what a save by Landrigan. >> It's a pretty nice shot. Good positioning too by Olsen. >> No, Raiders just had a loss to Foxboro, but looking to get back on the winning track.
Goes by one with a good pick. Matt goes goes in, takes a shot, >> goes wide. Julia Illings work there to pick it up. >> Julia with a nice little spin. Spartans are up to full strength. Pelier with the ball behind the net. Turn around. Julia Illingsworth picks the ball over to McKM. Ke turns around, takes it in, does a little twizzler. Nothing there. Illingsworth picks it up, turns around, fires the [cheering] ball into the back of the net. Good job by Illingsworth to be there to pick up that ball and get the ball over the goalie's head. Julia Illingsworth gets the Spartans within one. It's Billings fifth goal on the season. 32 with 103 left in the first quarter. Back on a draw. Ball goes up. Yep, you called it. Matt Whitler once again going in. Out with the stick. The ball. Kylie Marino looking to pick it up.
Um, the clean energy center asked me if I would uh present before the legislators at the state house uh to support their request for additional clean energy funding in the new budget. So I went to the state house and did a presentation on behalf of the clean energy center um uh regarding all the projects and the things that we have done with funding that we've gotten from the clean energy center which is probably I don't know maybe almost $2 million over the last few years from them. Uh and we just were awarded recently another $750,000 for from them as well on uh some clean energy projects we're going to be uh embarking upon here. here uh as part of our clean energy curriculum >> next year. >> All set. >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> Please. >> I appreciate you sharing that again, but I think we I think you shared this in the last meeting.
So, that was just a comment. Thank you for all you do. >> Thank you. >> All right, move right into new business. Board member resignation. Whenever you're ready, it's all good. >> I move that the board approve the resignation of Sarah Divine effective April 23rd, 2026. >> Second. >> All right. >> Second.
I know that whenever something needs to be done, not only done, but done well, I can count on her without hesitation. Whether it's supporting after-school activities, stepping into parent meetings with me quite often, or helping a colleague, she consistently delivers at a high level. She brings a positive, energetic presence to our building every single day. And that energy is absolutely contagious. She has a way of lifting those around her, students and staff alike, and it truly makes everyone better, including myself. Simply put, she is the kind of educator every school hopes to have, and we are very lucky to have her. School number four's teacher of the year, and very well deserved, is Mrs. Stacy Goncalves. >> [applause] [applause] >> I'm also very honored to recognize our paraprofessional of the year. This individual is the definition of dedication and reliability. She consistently steps in whenever needed ensuring that the students have the support necessary necessary to succeed throughout the day.
And teachers are invited to submit their grant request. This year we had a request by Ms. Tutter. She is a teaching assistant working with SpEd and Rice students. She submitted a request for adaptive physical education equipment. When I saw the request, I immediately thought about my very good friend Ms. Katrina Cayetano who is a physical therapist in our school district. Ms. Cayetano's son, Avery Card at his young age of 15 years old was an amazing young man and a quadriplegic. He sadly passed away last year. He was also a triplet. In his honor a scholarship fund was created. Through that fund, the Rice students at Plank Junior High were a able to receive a thousand a thousand dollar donation to help purchase adaptive equipment they needed. The HSA board also approved $750 for that request. This moment truly felt full circle. Physical education was one of Avery's favorite parts of school.
Any discussion? Dr. Martin? I. Dr. Polak? I. Ms. Winmouth? I. Mr. Cerone? I. Dr. Muriel? I. Ms. See? I. Motion passes 6-0. Good evening, Board President Cerone, Vice President Martin, members of the Board of Education, and Superintendent Dr. Kilgatti. Erica Garza is our recommended candidate for the principal of Hunt Club Elementary School. Erica is an experienced educational leader with a demonstrated track record of improving school culture, academic outcomes, and instructional systems across diverse settings. As a current principal, she has led a significant shift toward a more positive, supportive climate while increasing staff attendance and reducing student behavior concerns alongside measurable academic gains. In a previous role, she elevated the school to exemplary status within 1 year and strengthened systems such as MTSS, instructional leadership teams, and social-emotional learning structures. Her earlier leadership included oversight of a dual language magnet program which led to strong academic performance across grade levels complemented by her deep experience as an EL program coordinator and bilingual educator.
They're so beautiful. And I do know that the previous principal gave a little push back on putting these in. So I'm really thankful for Mr. Block being so supportive of the PTO cuz we finally have three new playgrounds. They're safe. No more rust and last probably another 10, 20 years. Um so thank you to them. Um and also kind of a little shout out for people I don't think get shouted out enough. Um sometimes I say personal things. So here's one. My son got a horrible injury at school on Friday and had to go to the hospital. Um, but thank God for the school nurse. I don't think we give them enough credit. Um, the nurses are trained. They're very smart. They know what to do and they also know when to freak out and when not to freak out and how to keep the parent calm.
Quite the resume that you have and I have no doubt we will see you here again. So, thank you. But but you remembered. That's still an accomplishment. >> [laughter] >> All right. Um, next up we have some commendations. Dr. Windham. Thank you. First up is Caleb Rashid. So, Caleb, if you'll come forward here. Uh, Caleb is a very accomplished student athlete. Um, and if you'd like to learn a little bit more about Caleb, Mr. Shockley recommended he join me on our senior send-off podcast and he did a phenomenal job. Um, but he has accomplished great things both in the classroom and on the athletic field. I want to thank uh some of the coaches that are here, Jack Jarnigan, Steve Yaros, uh Mr. Rinney. Uh, our coach could not be here because of some other conflicts, but uh Caleb has just done great things and represented Avon very well, and I will turn it over to Mrs.
Carrie Hong, who is um our number three, is actually at Harvard at an orientation. So, she sends her regrets. Um but I I do want to recognize her here because I I am very proud of her as I am all of these fine students before you. I'm very excited to present them to you and let them introduce themselves and tell you just a little bit about their high school experience at Columbus North. >> Hi, my name is Shinela Atmakur and I go by Neil. My plans after high school are to attend the University of Illinois Arbana Champagne and major in computer science and math. My favorite teachers are definitely Mr. Schiffer and SP Mr. Spock who taught me computer science and math and fueled my passion for them. My favorite high school club and organization is definitely the Sound and Spirit of Columbus marching band which I have been a member for 5 years and last year I had to honor as being section leader and center snare.
With the plan not taking place completely and taking place this year. Okay. So, may I have a recommendation to approve a proposal and can I fill in this timing of fall of 2027? >> Yep. Recommendation to approve a proposal and and timing of fall of 2027 consolidation of Central Noble Primary to Albion Campus. May I have a motion? I'll make a motion. May I have a second? I'll second. All in favor? I. >> I. I. Opposed? No. Passes 3-2. Recommendation to approve pursuing a referendum in the fall of 2026. May I have a motion? I'll move. Second? There is no second. All in favor? Opposed? I. >> [laughter] >> Just wanted to give you guys a last chance. Um, recommendation to approve pursuing a referendum in fall of 2026 has not moved. Superintendent comments? Uh, >> [snorts] >> thank you. I I mean, I wish I had a better solution.
We have a reasonable cash balance. It's not excessive, but we have a reasonable cash balance that we can use. What we have in rainy day would not fully cover a replacement geothermal, but, um, at At point, you know, if we would make it through half a year, and we've prepped as much as we can, it might have to up our our timeline a bit. I think we have to find a different heat source. Cuz a million dollars is ridiculous. >> Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> You won't be in the building for a million bucks, though. They'll redo the entire building, and it'll cost more than that, no matter what you do. It doesn't matter if you go to a four-star system or any kind of hot water system. You'd be a million bucks before you even look at putting in a better heating system. How much [snorts and clears throat] do we spend historically on maintenance for that system last 5 years, ballpark?
