There are jobs that I asked you to do years ago that I confidently know that she still performs on a daily basis without wavering. She brings a strong work work ethic, adaptability, and a team-first mindset to everything that she does. Whether supporting instruction, managing responsibilities behind the scenes, or adjusting to the needs of the moment, she handles it all with professionalism and confidence. And that impact impact is felt across our school. School number four's paraprofessional of the year is Mrs. Carol Carbonaro. >> [applause] [applause] >> Thank you, Mr. Wilson. Dr. Mendez, School 6. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Good evening, members of the board. Good evening school community. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many dedicated and hardworking [clears throat] educators in our school community. This year the selection process in our building was especially competitive. Today's recipients are individuals who consistently go above and beyond for our students.
It is incredibly meaningful that this first donation is supporting something so close to his heart. It is a beautiful way to carry his legacy. In addition to her generous donation, Ms. Caietti reached out to both high schools where students will now be working creating adaptive equipment as part of their course work for future needs. I'd like to recognize the students at As We Go High School for their help. Uh Ms. Hiltonbrand, Ms. [clears throat] Caietti, and the Avery Card Scholarship Fund for their generosity and their vision. This is what makes our community so special. People coming together, supporting one another, creating opportunities that truly make a difference. I am incredible incredibly proud to be part of Plank Junior High, our HSA, and this school district. Not just as a parent, but as an avid volunteer. Like Dr. Doc Like Dr. Kilgatti said, this was not part of my speech.
Please join me in welcoming Erica to District 308. Thank you. Ms. Garza, congratulations. You coordinated for the Hunt Club celebration to be the same night as your appointments. That was very fortuitous and and we just want to thank you and welcome to our community. It's a great place to work and to to grow and I know you will find a lot of just great opportunity to continue your leadership here and I see you have a staff member here with you as well. >> [laughter] >> That's wonderful. So, um, a huge shout out to Ashley. I know she already saved a life last year and here she is helping my son this year. So, she's phenomenal. but also to all the nurses because I just don't think we give them enough credit. >> Mrs. Hartman, >> um I think I could do this briefly. One, shout out to the junior high for an amazing musical. This is the first time I've gotten to come to one and let me tell you, I am surprised and impressed by our community. I have a lot of years in youth theater and this is right up there with them. So, the junior high should be proud. I can't wait to watch these kids stay on stage through their high school career. Um otherwise, I wanted to wish everyone a very happy May. I know it gets crazy. I know there are lots of events.
Parent to read the commendation. Yes. So, one of our greatest privileges as a board is to give these honors. So, I'm going to go ahead and read this to you. My favorite memory in the marching band is definitely being able to perform at Lucas Oil Stadium five years in a row and it's an amazing perform amazing time every time I perform there. Thank you. Hi everyone, I'm Karen Dutro and next year I'm going to Butler University to play volleyball and study neuroscience. And over the past four years I have been at North playing volleyball in HOSA in student assembly as student body secretary and also FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes. One of my favorite memories from student assembly is organizing the can drive every year which you might have noticed door hangers for on your doors every December and organizing that. And then on the last day of school in December, putting together boxes for community members and delivering those to people was one of my favorite memories. And I got to do it with Dr.
I do. I I I'm so sympathetic to what we're dealing with. I feel the pain. Um, I think I think we have to do something and this is the first step in that. And I and I do agree that we have to heal. Um, but I feel like the logic of this is it's just it's it's too logical to me. So, thank you for all your patience [cough] and hard work. And that includes the community and teachers as well. Any final board member comments? I think even though we voted not to push a referendum on this next coming ballot, it's coming. We don't have any choice. You've heard we're losing over a million bucks and we're saving 250,000. This I'm going to step out on a limb here and tell you Jason's opinion what the state's trying to do. The state is trying to kill small schools.
I don't have that number just readily available. Um They keep putting it off. They did They did They've done some, but it really, I think, has been minimal. Say that again, Kim. I didn't hear that last comment. For it's historically, what have we spent kind of repair-wise on the geothermal at that building? And I would say it has been minimal in the last 5 years. Yeah. The cuts year by year just, for clarification for everybody. So, you had 2026, 2027, 2028, you know, the 300,000, 230, 260, whatever it was. Is that additional cut? Yes. So, that's 300,000 this year. We saved 250, but next year we get another 250 we got to cut. And then the year after that another 200 on top. Is that what we're saying? >> That's correct. >> So, our budget by the end of the 4-5 year period is a million dollars less than what it is yesterday.
It's cool ideas for you." And so we were honored to be chosen for that as well. So I just hope that they're learning and having fun while they're doing it. >> I'll just add to to all you students that it's excellent that you come to the point where we're having such success programs winning these awards. But don't take don't let that be taken lightly. I mean, these are these are serious accomplishments that you guys should be so truly proud of. And everyone's sitting behind you. Um you should understand that your community and your teachers and sponsors and all of us are are so proud that you represent Crown Point the way you have. So just uh yeah, thank you. And I'll do something a little bit different. There's You guys had a large group, but it looks like there are nine of you here. Start with the gentleman down in the blue.
Any discussion? Hearing none, all those in favor? Aye. Aye. Any opposed? The motion will carry. Thank you, Mr. Roe. Um if it's okay, I'd like to take a minute to recognize uh somebody who just happened to be just approved as a part of our personnel report, and that's our new corporation athletic director to lead Tiger Cub athletics in the future, that's Mr. John Riggleman. So, we were we're really excited about the uh the interview process um in selecting our new uh corporation athletic director. As you can imagine, uh there's a lot of interest. Greencastle is a very special place. Uh just with the people, the talent, um certainly our facilities, and uh I think we had like 27 uh interested applicants. Uh we conducted uh first round interviews with six candidates, narrowed it down to a three. Um ultimately settled on uh Mr. Riggleman. Uh he has 16 years of experience as an athletic director, most recently as athletic director of Monrovia.
Um this trip will forever be one of my favorite memories in high school, and I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go. Hi, my name's uh Kiara. I got to experience a lot of my first on this trip, such as like riding in an airplane, going to my first national park, visiting another state. I got to see like alligators and sea turtles. And something I was very excited about was seeing the ocean for the first time. Uh this trip it made me feel like a little kid again. Seeing like I know students now they're very like pressured and we have like all these high expectations and mental health struggles. But going on a trip like this, it like felt like it was healing like an inner child of mine. For me, this trip taught me to be grateful for everything around me. That's why I'm getting more involved with my community this summer.
