Um my dad It was very hard to like run through it. And my dad And all of remind them Yeah, I did. And with with Trevi Fountain, there's like this thing where you throw coins back to find another And you throw back to And then there's the first find and follow I did Throw something in the back. Thank you. Yeah, I did. >> [laughter] >> Perfect. Next one. Uh day five, our final day, uh we actually started out with a pasta making class. That was really a lot of fun. It was actually way simpler than I ever could have imagined making pasta would be. Um we had a hilarious guide who was teaching us what to do. Uh and then afterwards we took a guided tour of Vatican City. Uh we started in the Vatican Museums first. Um we got to see a lot of their tapestries, uh just countless hours of pieces of art.
Hearing none, all in favor of motion on the floor say I. I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Thank you, Tiffany. Thank you. Moving on to the consent agenda, Mr. Brimberry. Uh Mr. Wall, board and community, we've got several items on the consent agenda I'd like to draw your attention to. Um I'll bounce around a little bit here and take questions if needed. Uh number seven, administrative job descriptions. Um I know that you've had time to review um for our public and um had a couple of questions. You know, I I noticed that when Mr. Peters was director of elementary and Mr. Brimberry was the director of secondary, that those positions have changed in title tonight. I'd like to explain a little bit about that. Um what Jay and formerly Mr. Trout uh when he was leading uh in our district and I do see here uh here tonight.
And so that's what we just did. And then our next slide will show the our timeline of what we did and of course you gave us permission on the 16th and so on and then we're all the way to the 27th. And we had a lot of interest. So 25 people came through our pre-bid walk-through, 17 companies. 12 ended up submitting bids and very competitive. We are very very pleased with the uh cost savings that we're going to be seeing uh and we ended up RJB Properties was our lowest bidder and that is who we will recommend. That is our current provider that we're going to we're recommending they continue to be our provider and again a nice cost savings to the district. That's that's the uh RFP recap for custodial services.
So, Wednesday's game against Grafton is going to be 6 p.m. We'll talk a little bit about that probably in the second half. Actually, pretty special game that's going to happen over there. Getting tough to see the number over there on who is going up against Maggie McInness on the face off, but that's number 19. It looks like Ellie Harrington. It's another win by the Wolverines. That is Ashley Forester defending over there. Good defense by Ashley. Good pick up in the middle by >> All right, white ball. Good defense. Goalie has it. I think that was number eight Caroline. Another one of our freshman that helped out with that defense. So Westwood is uh defending Alana on that play. over to uh Kendall. Love watching Kendall when she kind of just takes it to to another degree over there. Had like four players against her somehow found a little crease over there up the middle.
>> Oh, the centering pass. This Abrams gets it. Abrams running from the Looks like to be the whole Bellingham team, but Now, Fowler gets it. Oh, Fowler! >> Come on. >> Yeah, and he somehow gets it over the shoulder. >> There's a flag on that mugging right there. >> Like over the shoulder backhand shot, which went wide. >> Yeah. Fowler does have some trick shots. >> Going to be some sort of a hold or something against Bellingham right there. >> Yep, that would be Who's coming to the box? >> I want to say 16. Oh, number six. >> Number six, that would be Eric Todd. Going to be serving some time. >> And this doesn't help Bellingham. They're already down eight to nothing. >> Yeah. >> Now down a man for I think that was a minute. >> Yep. >> All right. Hartnett shot. Appeared to go wide.
Gets the ball over to Sand. >> S looking to work it in. Nothing there. Gets the ball to Keney. Whitler looking to do a little twoman. >> Nice screen by Whitw. Mckney turns around takes a shot. Goes really far post [applause] a goal in the first of the game. Put the Spart 8 to four. You like it? >> It's catchy now, right? M Whitler a back up on the draw. >> Mac Whitmer fires it up. Good grab by M. Whitward to come away with that. Never surprises do. Fun to watch. M Whitler with the ball. Marino setting a screen. M gets the ball over their straight line is set up to Spartans offense sand with the ball kicks the ball behind the net to Pelier and looks like Peler ran out of space stepped out of bounds and Northampton comes up with it. Northampton will have the ball deep into their territory.
Um and they're working with our students, a lot of our students on the autism spectrum who need more of those soft skills to be work ready. Um, we also, our transition specialist is responsible for submitting what we call 688 referrals. Those are referrals that are submitted so students are ready when they leave school with services. Special ed and high school is an entitlement. When you leave here, it's not an entitlement. So, in order to get those services, we need to be able to educate our families on what they're entitled to and get them um those services and those connections before they leave here. So, some of that data um from our transition specialist, so far we have 55 seniors. She has completed 30 transition meetings with families and submitted all the paperwork. Um we have 42 students have that have been referred to Massability and 38 of them are currently elig eligible for those services.
It it really is the at the board's discretion as it kind of has been now. Um >> It's I would I interpret it as like we have 182 days, but we now in writing have the discretion to like make it 180 go forward like kind of what we've done this year. I just hate putting that out there because it's it's it shouldn't even be an option on the table to decrease instructional days. Like, and to give everybody that, you know, give them a little a little taste, but this is really what's the only option we have really. It just isn't the most effective way. >> I I think I think >> it's going to be added on to the end of the school day end of the school year regardless of these snow days. So, the really only other option is for us to decrease the number of instructional days.
And I would not be remiss if I didn't mention one more thing that many of us in this in in our school have come to appreciate, her generosity. In her Syrian culture, when something good comes your way, you give back. So, Ms. Malky certainly does that. The delicious homemade treats she shares with the staff, myself included, are nothing short of incredible. She truly outdoes herself each and every time. So, Ms. Malky, tonight the Board of Ed is supplying cake. You can take the night off. No baking tonight when you go home, but our coffee table in the office will always welcome one of your homemade creations. But all kidding aside, it comes as no surprise to me that both parents and staff nominated Ms. Malky for this well-deserved honor. Her dedication, kindness, and work ethic make her an invaluable part of our School 8 community.
You know, being able to be on this board, the tradition of celebrating the success of accomplishments from staff and students has, you know, truly uplifted the culture in this building and and throughout SD 308 and I can feel that impact. It's like not often that a student can gain such a rare experience and participate in such important matters. So, I just truly want to thank you for that. Witnessing all the projects begin to grow um, and come come fruition with all the presentations, really is very eye-opening for me. And being able to provide my perspective at times has, you know, not only strengthened my confidence in speaking up, but has also built my ability to adapt to the situation at times, communicate clearly, and collaborate, you know, with others from different backgrounds. You know, this experience has helped me develop stronger leadership skills, learned how to, you know, engage with different viewpoints, for sure.
And with that, Mr. Rowan, back to you. Okay. Um We have public comment today? All right, 7.1, public comment. On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank the public for attending tonight's meeting. We value the feedback we receive from our members of the public and encourage everyone to take an active interest in their public school system. Individuals interested in speaking to the board this evening are asked to have completed a comment card and presented it to the secretary to the board. Any members of the public who have not yet turned in their public comment card to the secretary of the board are asked to do so at this time. Okay. When the secretary calls your name, I ask that you come uh to the microphone, state your name for the public record, and provide your feedback. Please note that comments are limited to 5 minutes per person.
With that, I'd be happy to answer any questions. Hearing none, can I have a motion? So moved. >> Okay. Any discussion? We have a vote. Katherine Patter. >> Yes. Bridget Sandlin, >> yes. >> Mindy Hartman, >> yes. >> Darling, >> yes. >> Julie Jetty, >> yes. >> Stacy Salt, >> yes. >> Motion approved. 11.3. Approval of Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operation, Dr. Thomas. >> Thank you very much. I am very happy to recommend Mr. M. Lansman, who's here in the back of the room, uh, as the next assistant superintendent of finance and operations. Mr. Lensman received his bachelor's degree in education with a minor in business from Drake University as well as a master's degree in school leadership at Concordia University and his CSBO from Concordia as well. He has been in the past a math teacher, business math technology instructor, and department chair and is currently the assistant director of finance and operations at North Chicago District 187.
Thank you for all that you do to help grow this, what I believe was a relatively young program. Um so, so much to be proud of. So, congratulations and thank you. All right. I Thank you, parents, too, as well. We We see you over there. >> [laughter] >> And I know that the driving, the practicing, and as one of the other board members stated, we know that that's not just a high school thing. This has been going on for probably since they've been walking. So, thank you. All right. Well, this part of the meeting is where we get down to some data. So, everyone is welcome to stay, but if you choose to leave, now is a great time and feel free to get some photos out outside and thank you very much for being here. >> [snorts] >> All right, we will move on to item number four, which is reports and this is our strategic a report where we're going to hear an update on some middle school data that will be from Mrs.
And then my long-term goal is to become a dental hygienist. My favorite teachers and favorite subject has to be the C4 dental class with Mrs. Selby as well as Mrs. Webb, who I believe is in the audience. I love to help volunteer um in the science lab in my spare time also for um NHS hours and other volunteer hours like that. And then my favorite high school memory has to be for my senior project. I started and led the Happy Hobbies Craft Club and I'm very excited and happy with how that turned out. Thank you. Hi, my name is Gabriella Wen and I go by Gabby. After high school, I plan to attend Purdue University to study biology on a pre-med track. My favorite teacher has to be Mr. Chastain. He teaches AP bio and he loves his job and it really comes through and how he teaches.
Okay? So, again, I have nothing else prepared other than in my opinion, I believe that we need to consolidate to work together and to start to heal. That's all I have. Thank you. That concludes our public comment. Comments from Barry. Uh just just to address um a couple thoughts. Um you know, before you in the next session, you you can make some decisions. Um I would just say Turn your mic on, idiot. I I would just say that um as you all are aware, this is this comes with a cost, no matter what we do. Uh the financial cost uh of staying open for a year, the the personal cost of the people that have to move and the work that has to be done if we don't [cough] do that. Um I'm sorry, if we do move. Um and I'm I want people to understand that I think everybody up here is aware of that.
And if you get a chance to get on that website and see Lisa and Jen have taken it way beyond where I where we first envisioned it early on and it is because of their perseverance and specifically the students. What you guys have put into it, how clean it is, how it promotes our school, but it it's also truthful about what's going on in the world today. You've done an exceptional job and they were recognized for that this year. >> Oh, boy. >> because they put >> They they do want to help out here. >> You know, they've already got the Do we want to do this here? >> Do you want to? >> Or do we have any >> Everyone's got >> Everybody's got one. Just so you know, we could do this at school, too. And then it's just the time. >> Is everybody okay?
Um and then we finished in the Sistine Chapel. Um that for me was probably my favorite. Excuse me. We finished out in the Sistine Chapel. Um some of the kids had kind of lost interest at that point when we were in the Sistine Chapel, but we were exhausted. Um as Bailey's favorite number is, we walked about six or seven miles every single day. So, by the last day we were pretty exhausted. Uh one thing I did capture in presentation is Um I think we did it two or three times. Uh snack taste testing of that night and entire aisle of chocolate uh dough stuff Oh, yes. Dough right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, uh two to three nights when we were on our way back to our hotels, we would stop at all these little stores all around. Kind of like a gas station. Um and we picked up a bunch of different kind of snacks and then after we did the first night, my parents started grabbing stuff.
It's nice to have John back. Uh we looked at a functionality and what the jobs evolved into was Mr. Peters was handling a lot of the state testing and the academics. I was handling an awful lot of the secondary, but also uh the building projects, operations, and other things that may be above the principal level. And so, a good question might have been, "Well, what really is a deputy superintendent?" You have the job description, but the functionality of it I'd like to be clear on. A deputy is a really nice name for an assistant superintendent. I filled that role for uh Mr. Trout in the past and in the functional behavior of what was going on in central office. Although it's a new title, it's not really a new position. I've just tried to clarify the job description to fit exactly what these two positions really do.
Happy to field any questions on that. Thank you, Dr. Nesbitt. Board, any questions or comments on the RFP for custodial? I do have one quick question. >> I couldn't see it doesn't say up there what the cost savings is. Do we know what the estimated cost savings >> Sure. Uh 1.65 million dollars per year from what we're paying right now. So pushing 1.7 million dollars a year in savings. I love it and thank you for your due diligence in getting these bids done. Appreciate it. Thank you. Any other questions or comments, board? I did have one additional question on RJB is I see they have the lowest bid. Is there also an additional cost savings by retaining the same provider by not having staff any difference The way we uh the way we drafted the RFP, no, not necessarily. We we told them we wanted a flat rate, no surprises, no trick a lot of math about the transition cost and you know and we said, "Nope, just give us your price." Uh we we want we want to be able to budget and know exactly what it is.
Great job by Kendall, one of our uh sophomores. She is a secondyear varsity player. Very aggressive defensive player. Great instinct on the uh on the field. That looks like uh Early over there. One of our freshman players to Aaron Hickey. Over to number one, Alyssa. One of our get a freshman. Yep. Elena Early, one of our freshman uh freshman attackers over there. Ball outside to Payton Trip. Great recovery by Payton Trip. A great move by Payton. The flag. All right. It's probably going to be a two-minute penalty, I'm guessing, on Westwood. Nope, not a two-minute penalty. Just uh shot over there. I think that's Payton Trip going for the shot. It's tough to tell over there. Nice goal by Payton Trip. All right, four goals for Ashlin right now. Payton Trip with her first goal today. >> See where Payton is on the uh her alltime stats.
