So, it was cool being able to share that. Hi, I'm Cameron Keefe. Um, my post high school plans are to go to IU Bloomington to study criminal justice and join their uh, law enforcement cadet program hopefully, fingers crossed. Um, my favorite teachers and favorite subject is criminal justice and I can't pick a favorite out of those three teachers. I'm repping them tonight. We got the shirt on. Figured I'd show up for them. Um, my favorite high school memory or club is theater. I've been part of theater since my sophomore year. In this past year, I've stage managed or basically been the boss of both of our productions, and that was just a great opportunity and experience for me. Thank you for having me. >> Hi, my name is Lauren Degar. Um, for my future plans, I'm going to attend Butler University to major in health science, hopefully on a pre physicians assistant track.
How much are we talking? I know we've got to do some stuff for the early learning that we talked about last week. But outside of that, what are we talking about to be ready for kindergarten and first grade to come over? Uh really not not much. Like I mean, there's some flooring stuff, there's some things like that. But I have been around schools, and you have too. You You know how it goes. I mean, one one contractor for not being able to get something done, and you know, that's that's potential problem. It's 100 days, and that'll go fast. Um but you know, can it be done? Yes. Do would we have a plan if it wasn't going to be done? Yes. Would that also involve some things that people may not like? Yes. But we can do that. I mean, it's it's not like it's I want to be I want to be clear.
So, it's something that's really strong for me. But I did want to walk you through the report to do some highlights on some of the key collaborations on our cardless digital access. The front the Friends of the Library actually spend dollars each year to create each one of your elementary schools and the exceptional learners building to be an essence a branch of the public library so that we can give you guys cardless digital access for our database there. Saves you guys dollars and we love to see that use of that database. We also make sure that we by doing like a bookmark contest and our and some of the other outreach and other things that we do really builds in that excitement for learning. We really are excited as you turn the page our summer reading bee competition last year. You'll see the asterisks that some of those schools had over like 700 almost 750 hours extra than they had last year.
Can't wait to share more about those at our May meeting. Excuse me. [clears throat] We have staff appreciation week. May 4th through 9th next week. So we choose to celebrate all employee groups together. And so we have some nice days and filled filled full of fun and and food and snacks. So I'm sure to stop by. You can you can have a snack during that week. What kind of snacks? Mr. >> really hard to believe. It didn't even ring true to me today somebody said to me we only have four weeks left. Like what do you mean we only have four weeks left? I thought we had seven. Well, no. There's really four weeks of school left. There's just a lot of good things fun things taking place in classrooms and really making that final push to the end of the school year and graduation.
This has really been looked at a couple of different methods and I really appreciate Mr. Klausing's process that he's going to use and how long this might take here, but we're allowing for volunteers from the secretarial position. We've got some people who are interested in that in terms of the number of hours might be needed to begin this process effectively at HCCS to scan these files so we do not have to keep the um boxes upon boxes upon boxes. Uh and I know Mr. Trout and uh formerly Mr. Sumpter began this process in the past as well. So, just letting you know the plan and there would be some requested hours. I know Mrs. Babcock and I both reviewed those. I know um Mrs. Lockmire, Mrs. Gray, and Jay did as well, and we feel we're very proud of Russ's recommendation for that that's on there tonight.
Uh we did we will be making a change here. We'll be moving from our current provider to Eclipse Staffing. We are very impressed with their proposal and it's noted they have some pretty big clients in a comparable district in Wayne Township and then of course Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If anyone goes to the track they know that's a pretty big uh big company there to be able to staff that. So that's our recommendation for Eclipse Security and Staffing. Thank you, Dr. Nesbitt.
Baseball is uh they have a 5-3 record. They are at Denim and we'll pause there and uh get back to the game. We got Maggie versus number 11 on Westwood. That's Cassie McMillan. Junior Jr. So interesting with these faceoffs. We got Junior versus Junior over here. Mega will kind of alternate midi and then on the offensive side kind of stay in the offense. >> Good defense by I think that was Kendall forcing the play outside. It's the job of defender over there. >> Definitely hear that communication when help is needed. >> Oh, another great save by Alana Duffy. I'm going to count that as number six for today, maybe more. Great job. Was telling someone the other day, you could not pay me money to play goalie in the cross. There are no pads on the lower extremity over there. So, a good pass from Ashley over to Alana.
Oh, almost snuck it in. Fowler playing midi. Yes, so just 4 minutes and 10 seconds left in this first half. Raiders have a lead 9 to nothing. Archie having a few saves. But keep that Yes, Atwood coming down. Yeah. Back to Montemayor. Atwood. Do you want to explain that people watching who who Phil Esposito >> [laughter] >> Esposito is? So I don't think anybody knows. >> He's an older older Bruin player that made quite the living in front of the net. >> Olsen to Harnett. Harnett gets his hat trick. >> Oh, first one of the game? Oh, yeah. >> There you go. There's a few people that are near there. I think Montemayor and Olsen or something like that. >> Extremely old Bruin who played with Bobby Orr. >> Yeah. And even before. >> And what? He was He was good around the net? >> Yeah.
Crim turns around, takes a shot and scores a goal. Good little work by Crim behind the X to come in and out and score one pass the goalie. get herself up on the board and put the Spartans up nine to one. >> Nice little footwork there by Crims >> around the crease to turn around and go up over the goalie's head to get her second goal of the season. As far as quickly scoring a goal in the uh Second half 30 seconds 37 seconds to score that one. All the lights are for all the fans here. It's good news. All the lights are working. So this game should go the full the full way. Whiter up on the draw once again. Throws it to herself. Gets the ball over the restraining line. Sees open space. Nobody even stepping to her until the last second and M will get herself.
They come in and they watch and observe a lot of your lessons and give you feedback. Um, a lot of the trainings are just one or two day trainings. So, it's a big difference to be certified versus train. But the reading specialist that we hired was a certified Wilson um teacher. >> Thank you, Mrs. Ferris. >> Your mic on, please. >> Um special education department made up of 68 students. Is that what you're saying? >> No, we have 220 students. We have 68 receiving reading services. >> Reading services. And and is this how is this delivered? Is it in the classroom or just one-on-one with the reading specialist? >> It's not one-on-one. Unfortunately, some kids do require that. It's typically the students that are with the reading specialist is typically a group of three. >> Um are I do have two seniors that have severe dyslexia and they haven't previously have this had the service.
So >> That's why our start times are so >> Yeah. >> So there were you know some yes. Otherwise we would have been in. >> Okay. >> All right, does anybody else have anything else on the calendar? >> [clears throat] >> Can we So I can make a motion to accept? >> I move that we adopt the calendar as is. All right, did we deal? >> I'm sorry go ahead Caroline. >> Well somebody can second that. I want to Wait if you have a question. >> No no yeah I wanted to get to your question first. That's okay that's okay. >> Um do I need to resend the motion? >> No. >> I literally just in the commotion just forgot my question. No never mind. >> You sure? It's up to you. You can always ask I mean you know. >> Oh that was actually going to sorry interrupt.
She supports children with patience and compassion, always giving them the encouragement they need to grow and succeed. Her calm presence, sometimes, and nurturing spirits makes a difference in the lives of students each and every day. Beyond the support she gives her students, Maria is someone her colleagues can always count on. She is dependable, thoughtful, and always ready to step in when anybody needs help. She brings positivity to our school climate. When Maria What makes Maria truly special is her genuine care. She brings to work every day her heart and she gives it to everyone in the building. She gives so much of herself that we, I think we take a lot, so hopefully she brings some home to her family. The impact that she has on our children, staff, and community is immeasurable. It is with great admiration and a heartful congratulations that I announce my 2026 power professional of the year, Maria Banano.
This opportunity has allowed me to be the voice for students who might not always feel heard or seen. It has brought me into the spirit of conversation that at times are joyful and at others uncomfortable, but that's where I feel I have found a new sense of growth within myself. This position has not only allowed me to work more closely with the student body, but has also helped me to fully understand what it means to be a leader in my community. But I would But I would have never done it if it weren't for the teachers in those classrooms I walk into 5 days a week where it all started especially 4 years ago. I wanted to thank the Board of Education for seeing something in me to have upheld this important position and trusting I would give my 101%. I feel endlessly grateful I was given this opportunity and position, and I hope I met your expectations in my role.
Hearing none. Vote. >> D. Darling. Yes. >> Julie Jetty. >> Yes. Stacy Salt. >> Yes. >> Katherine Potter. >> Yes. >> Bridget Sandlin. >> Yes. >> Mindy Herman. >> Yes. >> Okay. Motion approved. So close session ends at 6:41 or open session ends at 6:41. Okay. Then we will Thank you everybody.
So, I mean that percentage doesn't tell everything when you look at to where it falls relative across the state. And so, what really the important part of these meetings is to talk about what we're doing. You know, we get data, but data is only as important as what we do with our data. And so, that's when I'm going to invite Dr. Pia, Mr. McKinney, and Mr. Chapin up here to give a little highlight on the work what we're doing across our middle schools. Apologies. I've got a little allergy thing going. So, if my voice suddenly cuts out, Mr. McKinney is going to like just shove me off the stage and then he's just going to take over. So, all right. Maybe I should do it on purpose now. Really, we did some work last spring talking about guiding coalitions, which really in our PLC work with solution tree has taking leadership teams to a new level in terms of what they're doing.
Um, my favorite teachers at East have been my science teachers. So, Mr. Lenot for AP environmental science and then Mrs. reporter for general chemistry and AP chemistry and I also student teach for her now. I student teach a general chemistry class. Um my favorite high school memory has been for the past three years I've been a C4 ambassador. So I've worked the eighth grade openhouse night. Um and along with the night there is an entire d entire day. So, I am at school from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. So, even though it's a 13-hour long day, um it's really fun to get to interact with the youth and see the kids coming in. Hi everyone, my name is Maria Miamoto Takiushi. Um after high school, I have not committed to a college yet, but I'll probably end up somewhere in the East Coast to major in cinematography with a focus in film, TV, and media studies and a minor in business.
It's not like we haven't thought those things through, but I'm not going to come out and say, if we don't get this done, this is plan B. Right? Because idea is plan A is there, and that's what we'll try to do. Uh but it's not like we had I It's not like I haven't thought about, well, what happens if we can't get the doors and [cough] we can't move pre-school. [clears throat] Okay, we go to plan B, but plan B also involves some other things, like where do we move those kids to? Cuz we got to move them. And that also means that the kids that we're going to the classrooms that we want to move in June may not get moved in June. They may get moved in July. And and that presents problems. So, in some regards, the phased theory is not necessarily bad.
The The spirit of competition with especially the elementary schools is fierce. Uh we have the last 2 weeks of the um of July they can actually turn in to get their prizes, but they turn in their paper to get their prize tickets, but they retain their papers so they can wait till the last day to turn in their last bead for each hour they read so they can make sure that their school wins the contest. Uh last year was very fierce because at Lake Street was trying to beat Solon and Solon held onto their win from the previous year so they were really um really excited about that. Um the Friends of the Library actually help um to um support that with prizes as well as um other community partners. Uh you can see that quite quite a few of those readers in our community are uh school corporation readers so we're really excited about that.
May 22nd 7:00. The combination of another great year at GCS. So I just wanted to share those quick little updates. Very good. All right. Moving on to old business. I have none listed. Is that correct? Correct. [laughter] Excellent. New business. Looks like we have a public hearing for a third amendment to lease. Is that this paperwork I have here in front of me to read? >> Yes. The script is in front of you. Got to read it. Stand by.
Um couple other things uh as you can tell, field trip requests um you've had a chance to review, uh leave request. Um [snorts] Michelle could or Mrs. Babcock, could you talk a little bit about supplemental pay resolution maybe in terms of that process? Yes. So, um also in this consent items is a supplemental pay for established for a teacher that has been working at the learning center um that has been working his prep period the entire school year. Um so, we thought it was the right thing to do would be to pay him for that. This particular supplemental pay or resolution um is set for specifically like in general terms, so we could do that in the future if we needed to. Um and if that particular um teacher continues on with that, we will take that at a later date into the beginning of July or July board meeting um to allow him to have it throughout his pay.
