We will now close the hearing and reopen the regular meeting. Uh Mr. Giveny, could you please summarize the resolution authorizing execution of the third amendment to lease? Yes, as required by Indiana code 20-47-3, after a lease hearing, uh the school board must approve the third amendment to lease and authorize the school board officers to execute such third amendment lease. This third amendment lease is the agreement whereby the school corporation will levy the required property tax to pay the lease payments throughout the life of the bond issue. The lease payments will be paid to the building corporation and used to pay the bondholders to repay the proposed bonds. Okay. Can I get a motion to adopt the resolution authorizing execution of the third amendment to lease? Motion. All right. Do I have a second? Second. All right.
This is the same as you've had in the past of two of our retired administrators. We don't have many of them but when we do they do a wonderful job. That one's in there annually at this time of year. I would also like to talk a little bit about some of the individuals tonight that are on the consent agenda. And uh the first one is this fine lady to my left and she's made me behave but we'll honor her appropriately June 22nd with Mr. Peters on their last particular board meeting but Mrs. Gray has officially had put in and she told us this might happen one day for her retirement. I believe she's been with the district 30 and a half years Cindy. I believe she has been in her current position 22 years. I believe she has had eight superintendents that include some interims as well.
Happy to field any questions. Thank you, Mr. Krouse. We'd also like to recognize if we have anybody in this audience >> Absolutely. That participated in Curriculum Advisory Council, if you'd stand and be recognized, we appreciate your work on this council. Yes.
Got less than a minute 44 seconds. >> I'll be waiting for the last shot, but I think they just want to get a good shot over here. They have 30 seconds to get a good shot. >> It's a good penalty. >> No, >> I heard a whistle blow. I'm surprised that's Westwood's ball, but he >> I missed the call. Hello. >> Good defense by Julia. >> Good defense by I think that's Alyssa, one of our top minis over there. Freshman. >> Both a freshman. We have about 8 seconds over here. Oh, great save by Alana. >> Great job. Great save by Alana Duffy. That's at least number seven again. It could be more Samantha side into that defense over there. We have 11-4 at the end of the first half. So again, before we uh take a quick break, again, these are pretty much going to be the Ashlin stats over here.
>> It's true. But it's only a 10-goal lead right now with a minute and 11 seconds left in the first half. >> My goodness, it should be an 11-goal lead. Oh, nice spin move there. Man down, look at that. Atwood was all over him. They're center trading off. Number seven, though. >> That's Eddie. Eddie boy. >> Oh my goodness. >> That's the second shot I want to say that 11 might have done that where he's just >> He's also not calibrated if you will. He's just uh bouncing it a little too close. >> down. >> Yeah, too straight down. >> Good >> Cuz that's a great shot otherwise. Tough one for goalies to to stop. >> Yeah, that's true. Valid point. 30 seconds left to go in the half. Oh, save by Abscess. Here we go, Whitesman. I mean, speaking of his basketball, too, it's like there's some some games where he was like when he was on, it was like it's just great for the team, you know?
M Whit just blowing by everybody on Northampton. North Mac turns around, goes through one, two. Good job by Mac to pull it out. Don't force that shot. So that's one of the things I would like to see. Uh >> Jame Pelier cut across, draw that defender with her. Mac turn. There's [cheering] one for the highlight reel. Mac Whitler. That's called shooting in tight spaces. Fires one past the goalie for her fifth goal. Spartans now up 11-6. >> Next fifth goal. That previous play to see what they've done in the past across the goalie across the net. >> That way there the defenders be left in no man's land shot or will be open on that other side. >> Nevertheless, good work by the Spartans. Turn around, get another goal. Spartans up 11 to6 with 638 left in the third quarter. >> Ball loose. Kylie Marino this time comes up with it.
So uh I appreciate the work she does every day. Thank you. >> Superintendent Lavoy, >> just a question. How is the lottery going to affect the numbers do you think of kids coming in with an ed plan? >> Well, we're looking at that right now actually. Um that's some of the work I did today as we were pulling kids in. We get a lot of parents that um check off that students don't have IEPs. I think fear of not getting into the school. I know that changed with the lottery, but we uncover a lot of kids in the beginning first quarter that have not been identified. >> So, we're trying to pull everybody in through Edwin to see if they've had um services in the past. So, our numbers right now, we're looking at higher numbers. Typically last year we had a high. We had about 75 students come in on IEPs.
>> No. There's always something >> It would be built around the new schedule. Um and one one element I think I forgot to share committee members shared that it might be a good idea as we implement whichever calendar we vote on this year to um during next school year to actually solicit feedback from staff and the community and families on the calendar and use that also as additional information for the calendar committee to turn. >> We have to say something. Like February 12th it's a PD day for staff the students are off. That's really disruptive because really vacation is that week that 14th that most districts are off that week. >> It used to be the 15th 16th Monday Tuesday. Yeah. And they changed it to Friday Monday. >> know why that 12th that PD day isn't the 16th or is the 15th vice versa you know 15th 16th being impacted not the 12th.
He exemplifies what it means to lead with integrity, both inside and outside school walls. This honor is especially meaningful because it reflects the respect and confidence of his peers and the community he serves. Mr. Fasolo, you represent the very best of Garfield Middle School. Congratulations on being named Teacher of the Year. >> [applause] [cheering] >> It is also a privilege to recognize this year's Power Professional of the Year, Ms. Christina D'Angelo. Christina has dedicated 20 years to the Garfield Public Schools, and her impact has been felt at every level. She started in 2005 as a PCA in our preschool program, where she spent 3 years building a strong foundation, and then continued supporting a student through School Number 4 until 3rd grade. In 2013, she transitioned to Garfield Middle School when the MD program began. And she has been a steady, caring, committed presence here ever since.
Obafemi, we love your financial presentations but but I was actually really surprised that you all like had some follow-up questions for him and things like that. So um so just thank you for being so engaged and and you both did a beautiful job. Absolutely. And congratulations on graduating in 2 weeks and 5 days. What >> [laughter] >> I'm not counting. Well, if you think about anything that we can do better in the interview process, just let us know. Shoot us an email. Because you know you're going to be thinking about that. 2 weeks and 2 [laughter] weeks and 6 days. Any uh Thank you again. Thank you guys. Thank you. All right. 8.2 Board member comments. Um So last week I got to attend the epic soccer event which was for junior high and high school students. Actually it was for students of all ages.
That's awesome. Uh however, not every student gets that done, right? So, we have students who who do struggle with those assessments. We have a ton of data provided by the DOE. We have a ton of data from our checkpoints. We have a ton of resources uh that the DOE is providing us. The challenge is it's a ton. And so, trying to get it to a manageable uh trying to get a system in place and try to make sure that we can get that information into our teachers' hands. So, we didn't have like a great name for it, but the name that kind of came up is is data dives. So, our instructional coaches uh collectively are leading data dives. We have some visitors here. Uh lead leading those data dives at each building where we focus on our checkpoint data. Uh we get real standard specific and we look at those resources provided by the DOE.
Dr. Stalbomb, please tell us about those folks. >> Certainly will. First, we're going to play a video by Wes Anderson presenting some of our classified employees of the year. Hi, I'm Dr. Aaron Stalbomb, assistant superintendent at BCSC. We value the care that our classified employees place into ensuring every student in our school corporation thrives in a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment. From supporting students in the classroom to maintaining healthy and efficient operations of our school buildings, our classified staff's commitment to student success is unparalleled. Recognizing distinguished staff throughout BCSSE is a valued tradition. We are proud to introduce our BCSSE 2026 classified employees of the year. My name is Amber Wallace. I am a TA here at East High School in the English and social studies department and I also am the food pantry coordinator. I love getting to interact with the kids. Um I didn't think that I would like high school children having a couple of my own, but um I really do love them.
A- All I'm saying is from a strictly monetary sense, I I'm not sure that that pre-K's are being cut. They're not being added. Parents Parents to fund it. Parents would have to Yeah. Correct. Correct. And and and parents that we I mean, those are not generally generically unfairly, those are not necessarily the kids that need to be in pre-K. Thank you, Mrs. Jordan. I've worked with I have done a little bit on micro-school, and she's pretty much done it all on her own, and not having, you know, a whole lot of support from anybody else. And I I the thing when people say community and these great ideas, but we've had opportunities to do things differently and they either go away or they don't continue or they don't get pushed. They're not The things that we're currently doing aren't bringing more students here, right? We do some of these things already, but we're not pushing more of them because of those things.
4.02, the personnel agenda, and 4.03, voucher registered check numbers 180088 through 180401, and vouchers numbers 311803 through 312516. May I have a motion? So moved by Ms. Basin. >> Second. >> And second by Mr. Angel.
Do we have any discussion on the matter? Hearing no discussion, all in favor? I. >> I. Any opposed? All right. Motion will carry. Mr. Giveny, could you please summarize the resolution as uh signing construction bids and contracts once we receive those? The next resolution is a resolution assigning construction bids contracts to the building corporation once received. At the bond closing, the building corporation will own facilities where some of the renovation work will be completed. The building course corporation will also be the issuer of the bonds. As a result, certain contracts may need to be with the building corporation because the building corporation will hold the money to pay the contractors. The school corporation receives the bids and or contracts and awards the bids and or contracts under state law, but then retains the right to assign those bids and or contracts to the building corporation for payment at the discretion of the board.
I don't know if you counted me twice or once, but we'll check the math on that, Mrs. Gray. And I say that because this lady is the epitome of professionalism, has dedicated her life and professional knowledge to this district at a very, very high level. I see one of her former bosses is back there tonight with Mr. Trout in honor of her. But board, I just want to recognize that on June 22nd between Mr. Peters and Mrs. Gray, we'll honor them. But we do have some things tonight for after the board meeting for Mrs. Gray, and I'm sure that some of you will have some thoughts on her commitment and uh and other things for this district. But I for one, Cindy Gray, from the interim, from my past 3 and 1/2 years, and now as superintendent, you have been the ultimate professional for Huntington County schools.
>> [applause] >> And we're happy to answer any questions you may have. Yeah, thank you to everybody involved. Board, are there any questions or comments? Yes, Ms. Lawrence. Dr. Smith, I ask this every time we have a curriculum recommendation that comes before the board. For anyone who has questions about curriculum, can you explain how that works and what the power of this board is in terms of recommending and or approving courses to be executed in our class? Well, as Mr. Kuznic and Mr. Krouse eloquently presented to you, these course recommendations start with the state of Indiana. They have to be approved by the State Board of Education. If we want to create any curriculum beyond that, we have the right to do that through petition to the state and they they give us some flexibility, but that's where it starts for high school curriculum. So what that does is unify the curriculum throughout the state of Indiana so that courses are similar across all high schools.
Four goals for Ashlin, two from uh Ashley Forester, one from Payton Trip, one from Maggie McInness. I have at least seven saves by Alana Duffy. Um so we have an 114 game over here. We're going to take a quick break uh hear from our sponsor, Townhouse Pizza, and we'll be back for second half action. Sorry. Give me the pizza right now. >> Brought to you in part by Townhouse. Pizza, subs, roast beef, and more. Be sure to fill up with the Buffalo chicken cow zone that's been called one of the best in the area. This is Let's go. All right, we are back for second half action. Used to be a fivem minute break, but uh quick break over here. So again, want to uh thank our great crew. We got Paul and Jeff doing their thing. And again, big shout out to Garrett and Vivian, two of our students that are working behind the cameras, doing a great job over here.
>> Oh, yeah. >> I think one of the best players. >> All right. And that is the end of the half. So, after two quarters played, Raiders 10 Blackhawks zero. >> Yeah, we're going to take a 10-minute break for half time, and we'll be back. >> Mhm. >> All right, we are back for some more lacrosse action. We're getting ready to start the second half. 10 and nothing right now is where we stand. Raiders are up up up. Yep, they have the 10. Bellingham has the zero. Yes, so if the Raiders hold on to this one, they will be 5 and 3 and Bellingham will drop to 2 and 5. Yeah, we're excited uh about that record. Pretty good home record, I think. >> Yeah, we all are. >> Are you excited? >> We all are. I mean, the royal >> I'm not that excited.
>> Blows by everybody. Just one defender left. She does a little hop skip. Turns around. Nice pass to Peller. Peler [cheering] point blank gets herself a hattick. [applause] Good job by Kylie Marino to throw the ball to Jane Pelier who throws the ball in the back of the net for her third goal of the game. Spartans up even more 12 to 12 to six. Northampton calls timeout as quickly excels that lead by six. Oh, he's down. >> [laughter] >> I think I And we're back after a quick time Spartans up 12 to6 with 622 left in the third quarter. Up on the draw once again. goes up this time. Northampton comes up with it check Marino. >> Northampton will get the ball restraining line and set up their offense. with the ball. >> Anything else has changed? She's going to go around to the other side and try to work her way around that other corner.
