Um I think when the HIB policy first came out, and that was around 2010-2011, it was it was uh put in place by Governor Christie at the time. I think everybody saw these things as negatives. I I I saw them uh I I think it had to be tweaked a little bit and and whatnot, but I think when people see oh, there's a lot of bullying cases and blah blah blah." People get nervous about a district or they get concerned about a building. I I I see it the opposite way. When the cases are high, it doesn't mean that every case was found to be {quote} {unquote} bullying or harassment or intimidation. It just means that we are addressing the concerns in those buildings. Um there has to be a a vehicle or a way to make sure that we're communicating these things, making sure we're doing the right thing as a board.
>> [laughter] >> Okay. Yeah, her and her daughter have both experienced the Weiland Okay. Yes. All right. Generations have enjoyed these gyms. Not [laughter] for long. Well, I guess End of an era. I've asked my questions. Anybody else? And to Dr. God's point, I think is is is important to point it out that we are replacing it with uh vinyl uh vinyl tile. We're not doing anything fancy. They will last longer and they're easier to clean and they're easier to make shine when you when you get in there. Wait, is it the square tiles or is it like sheet vinyl? It's a square tile. Okay. >> Which means that if one goes bad, you can just pop it out and put another one in without replacing the whole thing. So, it's something that's functional and also economical. It's a large space. Any Thank you. Mr.
Uh and we just wrapped up our quarter three meetings with each of the cohorts, so nine meetings across the district. And I have some uh good news to share with you, Mr. Edwards. I didn't lie on purpose. >> I know he misspoke. >> I think I'm on now. >> There we go. >> That's got outstanding. Here we go. I'll I'll start over. Uh but give you the short version. Uh I did bring my phone up here to keep me on pace because I tend to talk a lot when we get uh talking about the cohorts. It's something that is exciting and we've been doing it for a while now and it's still exciting which is a good thing. So again, when we uh get to this point in the year, we have been through uh three quarterly meetings with the cohorts. And so that gives us an opportunity to take a look at our data and and see where we're going to land.
Just wanted to note that. Uh finally, uh on April 14th, uh Solon Robinson hosted our area Math Bowl competition in the Colonel Wheeler gym. It was a big night for Jerry Ross. Jerry Ross took home state runner-up honors. So, they only missed one question. There was one other elementary school that had a perfect score. I think down in the Indianapolis area, but Jerry Ross was state runner-up, which is a really huge accomplishment. Colonel Wheeler is always very gracious in hosting that event, and great job to the Solon team for organizing that for our kids. Thank you. >> Sorry. Thank you, Dr. Kachur. We'll move on to item 6.03, Director of Secondary Education, Mrs. Ramirez. >> Thank you, Mr. President and board members. Tonight, I would like to also thank our teachers, administration, students, families for all of the excellent work preparation that they have put forth in preparing for ILEARN, and now executing ILEARN at the middle level.
Any opposed to that? Outstanding. Now motion will carry. Meeting adjourned. Thank you everyone for coming. If you have a few minutes to stick around, we'd like
I'm happy to answer any questions. Thank you. I just want to thank you and and your alumni group for doing this. Um I am a student of history myself and I love history and I was not aware of this. So, I appreciate that and I I loved your comments about making sure that current students of the the building know what was there in the past. So, I appreciate that and thank you. Thank you. Are you ready for a motion? Yeah, sorry. I make a motion that we allow the bell allow the plaque on the bell wall at Horace Mann School. I have a motion by Gary. Do I have a second? Second. Seconded by Deb Miller. Any further discussion?
Very good. Any other questions or comments, Board? Um I appreciate the information on the business pathway. I know that our students can earn dual credits through the post-secondary partnerships, which as we know, the cost of college has gone up quite a bit. And so, um I just wanted to point that out that we're very grateful that they can earn college credits at really no charge to the families. Um and then to tie into business, just a final point, our traditional public schools are the market leader in Indiana. And so, since we serve 90% of the student population in Indiana, um getting that ROI is a return on investment for our future workforce. Yep. Thank you, Board. Thank you to the team as well. Moving to 3.7, Before and After Care updates, the 2026-2027 recommendations with Ms. LaPlant. Thank you, Dr. Smith, President Norman. Tonight, I come with an update on our Before and After Care programming for the district.
Clock is running right now. Two minutes 40 seconds. Pain trip going for her. >> Wow. Good assist. Who was that? Was that Ashley? Look at Ashley. Ashley Forester. That is her fourth goal. That's an assist by Payton Trip. So Ashley four goals. Maggie McInness two goals. Lily two goals. and paying trip with a goal. Alana with at least eight saves and that's a timeout by coach Katie. So give us one more chance to kind of um couple calls out. One again want to thank our sponsor townhouse pizza and roast beef always such a great sponsor not only for girls lacrosse but for many of the WAC almost all of the WACA events. If you are interested in in uh sponsoring, definitely get in touch with the WACA crew. Love to have you on board, whether it's for spring or maybe for next year. And again, a quick call out for our incredible crew, both Paul and Jeff.
Um as Miss Ferris said to kind of highlight what we're doing for students. Um and if we're able to bring some staff with us or even some students with us, we will too. Um, but we'll continue to work together to kind of uh plan that out. So, I appreciate the opportunity to bring my team. We're fortunate to have them. >> Thank you very much. >> Start with Mr. Lavoy. >> All right, moving on. Mr. Lavoy, school choice. Oh. At this time the uh as every year the uh district committee has to vote on whether we will uh take uh school school choice students or not. Um >> we are presently not a school choice. >> That's correct. We're not a school choice. Uh >> we haven't been for a long time. >> Right. We have not been. And your recommendation >> is continue not being school choice because we have so many students that in our own district that are, you know, uh really anxious to become a GLTS student.
Um sorry, clarifying question on that. Um does that could that also mean that we do all the same amount of field trips but the cost to the parent could be increased? That is what it could mean. Absolutely. Yes. Um and and the detail of all the field trips is was provided, right, in the budget Q&A doc but we you know, it will be the decision of the building level of to see what where these funds are allocated. Um and so the question on the PSAT is specifically so that was part of a supplies um reduction um and that was um you know, sort of put forth by um principal at the middle school. Um and my understanding in bringing that forth was that it hasn't been done for a very long time at the 8th grade. It was sort of it was it's offered to the 8th graders as a first first look at taking this this exam.
So So high cases doesn't mean that everyone there was found guilty for lack of a better term. It just means that we're addressing these things. And we do an incredible job here. Um we have a great team. Um but in in every building has their own um specialists and whatnot. We do a lot of professional development. So um to that team I I appreciate that. Mr. Bado, excellent job with all the things that you do and the communication that you give me. I've actually never been communicated as much on HIB and Title IX and stuff as I have been here. So um and that's prior to me getting here. So just incredible stuff. So So these are reflected there. So the scores um are as follows. Uh the district score is is 70. So high school had a 68. The middle school had a 71.
Oufemi. All right. 10.3 the science science and Spanish contemporary geography curriculum resources. And thank you for your uh patience. I'm going to hurry in case the power goes out again. Yeah. All right. So, hi board. We are representing the science and the multilingual courses that we have gone through and done our stage one and stage two this year and we are looking um to inform you on the resources that we would like to move forward with. Mhm. I have a clicker. So, I'm Dr. Jen Cooper Weldon, the executive director of high schools. This is Kelly Waldron, ML program coach. John Roth, science department chair at OHS. So, when we're going through and we're looking at our curriculum and we're looking at our scope and sequence curriculum maps um and looking at our resources, we really want to make sure that our resources align to our students.
So uh we do like to update you uh frequently to give you um kind of a heads up on where we are. Um and tonight, next slide. Uh I'd like to Is that me? Man, I'm out of sync here. There we go. Perfect. I'd like to uh give you an overview of what's going on. Um so these are uh this is the cohort by the numbers. So we've got about 894 active students. Um and I say active, but that number does include uh numbers of students who are still in school and our early grads. And those folks um again are the ones that we say are active um students. And so last year, you remember, uh, we posted a graduation rate of 92.41%. Uh, and I'm happy to report that based on everything that we see at this point, we, uh, are expecting to jump again.
Another big set of assessments that are being handled at the high school are our AP testing for advanced placement that will start next week and will follow for the following 2 weeks. I really am very grateful for all of the work that Mr. Wells, the administrative team over there, and Diana Smith have done in overseeing all testing throughout the corporation. Along with testing that we have going on, of course, I want to thank our educators. It is Educator Appreciation Week next week, and as we had the opportunity to meet with the finalists for our Teacher of the Year and Employee of the Year candidates. It's really just so inspiring and so such a good reminder of why we all got into education and remain steadfast in our belief of the work that we do every day. So, I really am just very excited to be able to celebrate educators next week, and thank all educators.
Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Thank you for being here tonight. Much appreciated on your presentation. Thank you. Thank you. Um moving on to F1, financial reports. Yes, so um in your paper packet and original packet online um is the March financials. And as we go through that closer. Okay, sorry. I need to speak up a little bit more. Sorry. Okay, so with the uh March financials for the education fund, um we were really right on track with with our expenditures um revenue coming in about 25% um on target um where we need to be and also 23% expenditures um for the end of March. So, we're right on target for March. Um ending balance is 13,477,296. Um moving on to the debt service fund. Again, there's no activity in the debt service fund.
To recap this school year, um as a provider with Lawrence Township, we serve close to 1,000 students each week. Last year, you approved that we would try out some other partners. And so, for this school year, Indian Creek um had Champions After Care, which is a part of KinderCare. Oaklandon had At Your School, and Winding Ridge had the YMCA. It was successful in that we were able to decrease or eliminate wait lists at almost every building. So, that was wonderful. As we look at a review of our partners, uh we did do um a survey in November to ask for parent feedback. Only one site had consistent positive feedback. Most parents continue to choose MSDLT programming for any of the breaks um with fall break and winter break. And we have had requests from parents that um they would like MSDLT to be the provider again.
Two guys that are kind of like our our leaders of our of almost everything with WACA. I know Paul was working a lot up up with me a little bit today. Again, quick shout out to our two students behind the cameras, Garrett and Vivian. Garrett is a eighth grader. Viven is a freshman. Both doing a great job over here. I've had the chance to kind of check out the game a little bit looking at the chat. So, if you are interested in uh anything with WAC, whether it's announcing, whether it's the camera work, any backend work, just uh let us know. Love to have you. Always had a great group of uh young athletes doing a lot with WACA. Love to kind of help have you help and uh contribute. So, we are down. Ashlin's down 17-9. Let's see what Katie drew up in the timeout.
So I would say we would vote no to school choice. I would recommend voting no. >> All right. Can I ask for uh a motion to approve or not approve the school choice for Greater Alliance Tech? >> Motion to reject. second. >> We got a third. Um, any further discussion? Can we call a vote? Uh, just for I think we know where we're going on this. We haven't been one for a long time and we're against proceeding with one. >> Yeah. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Thank you. Give me a second to write. >> Uh point of order. Uh the we don't have a recorder. Do we have >> We don't have a recorder. I'm doing the best I can and she will uh she was supposed to be coming, but she can go over the tape. I'm doing who?
Um and it hasn't been very many years that it has been offered. And so if we are to make a reduction, that would be sort of the first place to look um considering it has not been in place for a very long time if >> just a couple of years. >> where you're getting that from because the sophomores took it. >> Sophomores took it and it's not >> No, I'm saying the current sophomores that are in 8th grade took it. >> Took it in 8th grade. Okay. >> Um and I believe the current 9th graders took it. >> So I think it has been offered the last the last few years but not going back say 10 years or even 5 years. >> test scores are. >> All right. Yeah, I I thought I was hearing the opposite that it hasn't been used. >> I think it has recently.
School School 4 had a 69. School 8 uh School 6 had the 70. School 7 had a score of 72. School 8 had a 67. School 9 had a 70. School 10 had a 71. ECLC had a 70. The Pre-K Annex um 1, which is Three Saints, also had a 70. And uh well, at the time Head Start was Pre-K Annex 3, had a 70. Um these I believe these scores are at 80 if I'm not mistaken. Either 75 or 80, I don't have to see, but it's not 100, but regardless um this is just self-reporting and something we have to do. I think the main thing is that the board understands that we are on top of this. It's important. Um and and again, our parents are contacted. Uh I think when I first got here, there was well, prior to me getting here, there were a lot of cases that were heard and stuff.
