Um but I think, you know, Dr. P and his team were comfortable um reducing to this level, which is a little bit higher than actual spend previously due to the budget freezes. They are very happy to not have a freeze this year and be able to um use all of those supplies this year, which they anticipate doing. >> Other questions on that? >> Not on that, but can we move to the next item? I mean, if we're done with that. So, this is this is the one that really gets me, the library media specialist, um especially um I mean, I don't know what enrollment numbers are or have been for AP Seminar and AP Research, but those are some of the most um I think I don't like the word impactful, but impactful uh courses for for stretching critical thought at the high school level.
Is are they similar enough in regards to credit and etc. too? I would say moving forward it would be a good opportunity to have them work in tandem so that the Spanish version um does have similar standards. Um they have extra standards but that they do have similar units uh and But they'll have some a lot of the same standards as well, right? Yeah. Yeah, okay. Does the current textbook that you're um re re um proposing do they offer an English version of that textbook? Yes, they do. Okay. >> And the resource um but we have a English version on hand. One of our teachers probably have it right now cuz they were using it for some planning but yes. Are there um online components to this? There is a no Spanish online component. Mhm. And that's just I mean we I mean that seems like it was scarce findings as it was, right?
I'm excited to hand it over to the math department to help us celebrate their strong student outcomes. >> Thank you. >> Hi, good evening once again. I'm Brad Brandham. I'm the head of the math department at Columbus North High School and also North Side Middle School. Um this is my 21st year here at CNHS and all of my experience has been in BCSC. I'm going to take a second to introduce my representatives of the math department that we have here this evening. Uh heard his name many times earlier in the top 10. This is Mr. Nathan Schaefer who has 20 years of BCSC experience all at Columbus North High School. We have Ean Jassuja who has been uh in BCSC since third grade and attended Parkside then Northside then North. And Harshel Gandhi who has um been in BCSC for his entire K12 experience and attended Parkside, North Side and North.
I mean, I can't imagine uh sleep especially maybe in wintertime when you have to make a decision whether or not we're delaying school or closing school because what's the number one priority? Keeping children safe. So, congratulations to Marty. We're going to miss him because um our prior uh main stay that we had in that position for a long time was very good at the job and he filled that role to put sustainability in there, uh make sure that we're in a position where we're in today trying to find that next position to lead that department. So, congratulations to him. >> It's amazing. Just want to echo um the congratulations. Marty has done a fantastic job leading our transportation department, so he will definitely be missed. Um hopefully he enjoys retirement. Uh same to Mrs. Bucko. She um when I think about the way that I know her was as a second grade teacher with her leading a different building, not the one I was in.
So with that, any questions? And Terry, you did say this will include not only ADA, you mentioned making sure both locker rooms are equal and appropriate, but also restrooms as you've done throughout Huntington North and showers as well, correct? >> Correct. This provides new showers, individual shower stalls. So hopefully the showers will get used with shower stalls. >> Yes. Um and correct. Also showers, separate showers and restrooms for coaches as well, which are also ADA. Thank you. You're welcome. And I believe we talked about this in the work session, but just to reiterate, that just leaves what I would consider the PE girls and PE boys restrooms that have not been touched. Are those the only two sections that haven't been touched yet? Is that correct? >> Correct. Thank you. I guess I can keep on running the meeting.
And and I thank you for that. I know it's a very difficult time to to project anything, let alone a budget the size of ours. As it relates to fuel, cuz that that likely is part of the the biggest influx in the summertime, I assume that we have very we have a lot fewer buses on the road. So as we're nearing that, do we anticipate kind of making up any of the gap? So typically our fuel contracts account for that. So we we we predict and and have a pretty good idea of how much fuel we're going to go through per month. So when we purchase when we set our contracts up, that is factored in. So really don't see we do see savings cuz we're spending less money during those months. Um but it's it's it's kind of factored into where our budget is.
Any discussion? question. >> Um, is this an addition for the upcoming school year or is this part of the current facilities? >> Upcoming school year. >> Yeah. Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Oh. Your your packet probably wasn't changed last minute. >> Yeah, mine was a little uh disturbed also. >> Does everyone else have it in their packet? >> Yep. All those in favor of the custodian position. >> Opposed. No more discussion. Moving on. >> Hi. >> Okay. At this time, I'd like to motion to get a motion to uh enter into executive session. Uh we have personnel matters and negotiations for clerical. Can I get a motion for that, please? >> So moved. >> Second.
I mean, we've just been talking a lot about important features of the elementary experience. Well, this to me getting rid of the uh library with a second um library media specialist is um it's terrible. Um I mean, the the library is a vibrant home for some kids who who feel comfortable in these quieter spaces. But also, in 2026 with AI exploding and the way that our kids take in and understand information, um that's changing in ways, you know, we can't talk about a world-class education in 2026 when we are limiting the um high-quality instruction about critical interaction with data and with um things online. So, I I understand if this is just like if it's got to happen, but but to to me, this is directly undercuts what we say we're about um when we cut a second library media specialist. You cannot have a world-class education without um high-quality management of your information hubs, and the library is one.
Yeah. So there was um this is McGraw Hill. The other one was NatGeo. And then the third one came in and it wasn't really appropriate. It didn't even match what we were asking for. Okay. Okay. So then here's the wonderful chart that has how much all of it's going to cost um if we were to propose all of it. For the biology, the chemistry, and the Earth and Space Science um we looked at what we would consider like the Cadillac version where every student would have a textbook and have the digital online resources um and the staff all felt that the students didn't necessarily need a book that they would be taking home that most of them would just stick with their Chromebooks. Um so, we did not go with that. We also then thought, what would it be if we just had the on um textbooks in the classroom and not have the 4-year option um for the online component.
We're going to share with you some of our student outcomes. >> Uh thank you. First outcome I'd like to share is we had 61% increase in AP math course enrollment for the 2026 2027 uh school year compared to four years ago. Uh, as an AP calculus teacher, uh, you've heard that I'm extremely blessed to have great students, but I'm also blessed to have great colleagues that teach my students before they get to me and prepare them, uh, to do really well in my class. Um, next thing, SAT math average scores above state, national, and global averages. Um, I also teach pre-calculus and I'm blessed to have a great core of curriculum team to work together with uh to prepare our students to do the best they can on that SAT math section and having experienced and stable teachers to work with has been really great.
Um, if there's one thing that you could definitely say is that she loved her kids and her families. And, um, and I so admire her constant pushing for the absolute best education that she could provide for her students. So, you know, I think at times it's easy to, you know, you get a few years into teaching or into any job and you kind of, uh, let your foot off the gas and think, all right, I kind of have it figured out. Maryann was was really, um, always one who kept pushing for what can we do better, what can we do more, how can we, um, continue to drive results with students. And, um, and I I really admire her, um, doing that for 30 years. So, that is a huge commitment. She has touched so many lives in our community and, um, we really appreciate her years of service.
Uh any questions, additional questions for Terry? If not, floor is open for a motion. Motion to approve the bid for the Huntington North Arena locker rooms as presented. Thank you, Matt. Is there a second? Second. Thank you, Aaron. Any further discussions?
Thank you, that's all. >> Also, we do transport an incredible number of students during the summer because we do offer summer school. Not for the high school to transport them because they do their online classes, some high school students, Dr. Thorpe. But our elementary schools will be teeming with kids this summer as we have our summer learning academy taking place, Mr. Kuzmic. So we still transport kids. >> Yeah, I I just anticipated it being fewer kids. Nope. Okay, good questions and just a point of clarification for the public. I like many of you received my property tax bill and I saw some complaints online saying blaming the schools and I would venture to say, and you can affirm this, that it is not because of the schools. We have the third lowest tax rate in Marion County. It is because our assessed property value went up.
Any discussion? Okay. Can we have all those in favor? >> I >> opposed. >> Thank you. Make a motion to move uh the facilities clerical into the specialist category. Further discussion. >> No. >> Mr. >> Abstain. After all the talk and to look at all their budgets recently. uh over the weekend and when you look at you know 50,000 for equipment so you go in and you see what that is it says 50,000 for equipment it doesn't articulate what that equipment is so now I've said to the CTE coordinators today I need a list of what that actually what is the equipment they're looking for uh but as far as any any request that was written as far as the advisors are concerned um we're working on that that most of that they're going to we're going to be able to uh purchase. >> Yeah, I can give you once I've get the breakdown of what all those things are that they've put in their budget but didn't really um describe do a description of what it is they were looking for.
It's not the only one, but it is one. Um so, I just wanted to say that. Um I I value what my colleagues here have said about other uh areas of the budget, but this is this is the the one that hurts the most for me. >> Thank you. Any other comments about it? I would share um nothing is seemingly easy about these reductions. Um and I know the media specialist, and I put it in your packet, wanted to make sure and I believe they emailed you earlier today as well. Just They made sure you had the data, and I assured them that I would provide it to you. I didn't actually know you were on that email as well as a BCC. So, I didn't see you. But, um I I do agree. I think the library media program offers uh a great opportunity for our students to really expand their critical thinking and really put information together in a way uh that is guided and facilitated that they uh sometimes will have a difficulty receiving otherwise.
And then we said, "Well, what about those students who are sick or who might be on homebound um or who want to learn more when they're outside of school?" Um so, we wanted to make sure that we had that online access. So, that's why we ended where we did in terms of coming up with three options, but then really going in the middle where we had a hybrid between the textbooks in the classroom as well as the online version for the students with their Chromebooks. But, all the students will be able to access Yeah. the material online. >> Yes. And the books would just be a classroom set. >> Yes. Okay. All of the science The science ones. >> But not would be available online, but not Sorry, I missed you. Mhm. Would we be using this curriculum for your honors chemistry or AP chemistry?
>> Hello, my name is Ean Jassuja. I participated in IML, Indiana Math League, all four years of of high school. And I'm happy to announce that this year, for the first time in school history, we were the 2526 state champions for IML. And I think this reflects the strength and consist consistency of our program at North. Throughout high school, I've taken math courses from algebra to calculus to statistics, a wide variety, and each build my understanding step by step. A major reason for my success though and confidence going into each of my AP tests and exams was through the instructions of my teachers who are each passion passionate about the subjects they teach and they focus on building conceptual understanding rather than memorization. Uh I still remember Mr. Sheiffer's explanations of how an integral sweeps out area and how a double integral sweeps out you guessed it volume.
Um, had the opportunity to, um, to attend our Laude ceremony that we had a couple weeks ago. It was wonderful to see all of our students, um, come across the stage who are receiving, um, their stalls for their, uh, GPA levels. And it is incredible when I look at some of the GPAs that we have. Like, I'm really not certain how that is possible, but those students are certainly putting in the work. And, um, and the most touching part, the reason that that is one of my favorite ceremonies, we have four students who read a letter to the teacher who has touched them the most. And, um, and the reason I bring that up is as we are approaching our, um, educator appreciation week, I think that one of the best things that you can do, um, for the educators that you appreciate is to make sure you let them know how much you appreciate them.
Hearing none, all in favor of the motion say aye. Aye. Opposed same sign. Motion carries 6-0. Uh H2, award for the HCCS secure vestibule project. Okay, this This project we bid last week. We did have five bidders pick up drawings for this one. We did receive three bids as you'll see from the bid tab that we provided. ACB General Contractor was the low bid at $305,700. Construction is scheduled to start May 26th as soon as basically we we get past Memorial Day and then contracts will get started. Majority of the project will be completed during the summer and then some electrical and security work will be be completed once school starts. And I know that because we've already talked to ACB about their schedule and timing. Um So this is a 2025 bond project and I do recommend approval of ACB's bid in the amount of $305,700.
I I would absolutely affirm that. Also, I just happy to report to the general public and also a tool on our website, we have a calculator there for the referendum, the capital referendum that was passed back in 2019. There's they want to look at that, they can always see current tax rate on that and and continue to watch how that drops. I get an email from one of our community members every year and always happy to confirm where those numbers are today versus where they were originally passed. And do you know, is that on the finance page or is it on >> I believe it is. Yeah, it's on the business page and anyone Okay, a tab on our finance page. Okay. Okay, thank you for sharing that. Those tools are always very helpful to share when there is some mis you know, understanding. Absolutely.
