>> That one is way inside and well high. And that ball by Guyra was thrown over the head of Bradica. >> And Messer will take time. Yeah, good job by the infielders there to be aware of ball getting thrown over the pitcher's head. Um, >> it looks like Bradica's day is done. >> Yeah, >> it will go to Conry. Bradica, >> first two runners reach against him here and looks like he'll move to first and we'll probably get Laro moving either to third base or the outfield. >> Yeah. So Ian McCoy will move to third base. I I I believe Laro goes out to center field to join Lame and Turncliffe. Brad over to first as Connory come in the game. Unfortunately Connor has been warming up a little bit between innings. So >> he's had some nice practice throws there from third base as well over over the over the first base.
I've been to this meeting in the when you did the tentative, I went to your special work session and again, I still am unclear where what happened to the 14 million because out of that, I should have 7 million really to play with um for the tax increase that you're proposing for the 2%. You're proposing to raise another 2% to the average taxpayer um to the taxpayer which um I just don't understand after you asked for $14.2 million. So that's my first point. Um one issue I understand the state, you know, we have been shortchanged from the state regarding the 6% cap. Um I take offense to the one slide that had about we're talking about state aid back in 2017 or whatever it is versus now. The numbers have changed um the the formula behind the scenes. So the state actually is holding back $2.1 million or $2.2 million in categorical aid which is your special education aid, your transportation aid, etc.
We also look ahead to senior scholarship night, final exams, and of course, graduation which is the culmination of our senior's journey. Each of these milestone involves the support and dedication of the ESPs in many different roles. As I often say, we are proud to contribute to our student success and to the overall success of our schools. Next week, we will also celebrate teacher and staff appreciation week. We look forward to coming together as a whole group to recognize the hard work and the commitment of every individual in our schools. It is truly a team effort. Thank you for your time. I look forward to seeing you next month, which will be after the school year has come to a close, so I'm sure we'll have many updates for you. Thank you so much and have a great evening. Thank you. All right. Next, our 230 Foundation update.
>> I want to hear your say. Yes. And I as well. So, so we are um so we will not we will not close the public hearing, but we will um um ask JZ to start to put together an approval document with the conditions that are that are um specified with GCG and including um the allowance of the turf field and we will have that uh on is is will you be able to have that on the 14th? >> Yes. Yeah, on the 14th so that we can review it at that time and um and take a formal vote. How does that sound? >> That sounds great. Thank you, Madam Chair. So, >> awesome. >> For >> so before we break away, there's been a lot of deliberation on this, especially with the the fields. Um, I have served my community um on boards and commissions uh I want to say 35 years, 30 35 years now.
>> He's one for two. >> 135. 135. Orus continued to be just what we expected in terms of the hits. They've all been singles. >> Actually, sorry. We saw the double from Price, >> but what is it? A total of of seven hits. Only one extra base hit. >> They continue to just get Oh, as the runner is going to head for second there. The throw is in time. >> A great job by Connory. Great awareness. He looked over to third and that's when Caldwell took off. >> Yeah, that that was just um not very good base running. I mean, if if you do that, you want to score the guy from if you if you're going to get yourself out at second, you want to make sure the guy on third gets home. >> Um >> that was actually Henry Denubio who tried to take second there.
had some ropes thrown across. So, it's not completely cold. >> Yeah, he's only thrown five innings so far this season. Believe he pitched the game we uh did together first time. >> So, we'll see him again. >> Important that these guys do get in the pitch cuz if you know if the team does make it in the playoffs, games come up very quickly and you do need to have a deeper bench. um you know, if you come in with just a couple of pitchers, you you're going to you may win a game, but you're not going to last very long. So, um you know, it's important to have a deep bench and and sometimes players aren't on that day. So, you know, you need to have people to fall back on. So, you want to give these guys playing time uh you know, during the year.
That is really on the table that the state should be giving us. And honestly, that is the only thing that we should be asking for. The equalization aid, honestly, we should not be applying we don't really qualify for it without the 3-year equalization the averages of the property value and the equalization and income. So, categorical aid, we need to go to the state. Um the question I have is really in the presentation, you're still eliminating staff programs or staff um for general education. But yet, we had the presentation ahead of us that really talked about adding staff um and class sizes and reducing the class sizes. So, I don't see how that's jolling with, you know, your priority. So, I have a question about that. Um and again, the state health benefits plan is staggering that we're spending so much money. I believe it was 12 million this year and I think you guys explained at the session it was about 15 to 17 million.
I was just clapping every time came up. Sorry, Adam. I didn't mean to not clap for him. Um just quickly uh each year the district 230 foundation uh board awards grants to teachers and staff whose great ideas fill a gap, innovate andor empower students. Uh the grant deadline is tomorrow and the board is eagerly awaiting to read all about the wonderful and impactful ideas that come forward. The foundation hopes to uh be able to fund anywhere between 30,000 and $40,000 to our staff and the winners will be announced before the end of the school year so that they can start to prepare for the following year and then the official announcement will come at the back to school institute day. Um, I don't know if you've done this before, but when I was leaving Institute Day last week, I saw Ann Oliver and she was coming.
Um, it is thankless as you all know. Um, but I do appreciate I believe that boards and commissions need to do do their job, need to understand the the material presented to them, need to understand the regulations and the bylaws. Um, unfortunately I do represent clients where I go to towns and they're quite honestly clueless. Um, I do appreciate the makeup of your board. Um, and the questions that were asked. I do appreciate also the questions that were asked about um, this field. And again, admittedly, I know nothing much about this, but I do appreciate you folks allowing us to present the the information from professionals and people in the industry to uh to better inform you and to better uh satisfy your your your hunger for more information. So again, thank you very much. >> Thanks. Thanks for those comments. We do try to educate ourselves where we need to be educated and take those opportunities.
He's been pinch running for Caldwell, the catcher. >> Yeah, he kind of made that break between kind of the pitch, so it it wasn't the right time to go. He thought that he would, you know, catch um >> Finn sleeping, but the whole team yelled at him that was going and he turned around and it was kind of an easy out there at second. >> Irish with a fly ball into center, but right at Laro makes the catch and it is middle of the sixth here at the middle school. 6-1 Lancers. costly mistake there by Norton to send that runner and have him get out because that deep hit right there would have scored the runner from third. >> So So they they just gave a you know gave a run back to Ashlin. >> Um >> yeah, some you know some questionable uh bunting situations or running situations.
He's got a nice gallery behind him watching him and kind of enjoying the game from the best seats in the house. >> The umpires decide that's enough warm up. And >> yeah, >> so it'll look like the official defensive changes. It'll Clark will go from second to third. McCoy will go in from center to second. Ratica from the mound to first. Connory from third to the mound. And Laro goes from first to center field. So just about everyone getting a new position >> for the clockers. >> Wow. Put in one new player and then uh four of the five players on the field change. >> Caleb Luzon will bat. He's 0 for two. >> So farwell's on second base. Irish is on at first. Nobody out here. Top of the fifth inning here for Norton >> and Gu will go out to the mounds. Tough tough position for Connory to come in.
That's a staggering amount of money. And if you're a employee living in district, you know, you're paying your your premium and then you're also getting hit as a taxpayer. So, I feel that we all should be going to the state health benefits plan and advocating for that. Um the other thing I want to say, transportation, I am a little lost. You know, we went out to bid, I guess, 2 years ago. We outsourced transportation. We were supposed to have an $800,000 cost savings. However, transportation costs between 2024, it was 6.5 million. >> minutes, so just >> Oh, sure. I will wrap up. And now we're at $7.6 million. So, between '24 to '27, that's about um a million-dollar increase in transportation. So, that's staggering when we're supposed to have a cost savings. And the only thing I will just ask, since you're doing paving projects, could you please fix the pothole at Rice?
She was offering a class on how to write the grants. Has she done that before? Yes, we've done that. So, that's that's a great way for people to learn how to write those grants. So, great. Thank you. You're welcome. All right. Next, we have public comments. We have just one. Um, and if you haven't been around to hear public comments, I do read something just for consistency. So, per board policy 2230, we ask you just address the board by stating your name and the reason for your comment. Because there's just one of you, we will allow you no more than five minutes for public comments. And per board policy 8830, the dis school district expects mutual respect, civility, and orderly conduct among all people on school property or at a school event. Disruptive behavior or use of vulgar or obscene language will not be tolerated.
So, we appreciate your willingness to help us out with that. >> Well, thank you very much, folks. And so, we will uh look forward to seeing you on the 14th. >> All right. Great. Thank you. >> Thank you. Take care. Have a good night. >> You, too. >> All right. >> Do we need a motion to continue? >> Yes, we do need a motion to continue. >> I'll make a motion or you go. No, you're you're getting into it today. You go. I uh motion that we continue the 240 to 260 Pleasant Street site plan review till May 14th. >> May 14th. >> I'll second that. >> And a roll call vote. >> Boing. Good day. >> Hannah Tesmanitzki. I >> got I. >> Um and Trisha Kendall I. So that'll be continued to the 14th. Um I'm sorry to do this folks, but just to backtrack a little bit to this bylaw.
Um that that's certainly helping Ashlin, but Ashlin needs to uh do themselves a favor and get some some runs on the board. You know, they got two more innings to be able to do it and see what happens. >> You watching the game tonight? >> Oh, Celtics. Celtics. Oh, yeah. >> What What other game is that? >> They better win. Tell you that. >> What do you think? >> H I don't know. I mean, seems like they can't close out a game at home when they're favored to do so. But I think they get it done. I think that they'll come with an energy of like, let's get this done. We don't need a face elimination, especially in a first round game. You know, you're heavily favored to win the East over all the other teams. But, um, every series in the Eastern Conference is at three three games to two.
Um although he's not responsible for the two runners on the base if you know they do score. You don't he doesn't want them to score. Um but it's tough to come in and start your pitching with no outs and two runners already having spots in the infield. Connory just trying to get communicated well with Guero. There seems to be a little bit of communication issue between first pitch. Looks like they're going to try to lay down a bunt here. It's popped up and Brad makes the catch. Oh, and he throws back to second >> and it's wild. >> You know, again, smart play there by Bradica to quickly throw over um to second base even though it wasn't a great throw. But another interesting call by the bench over here for Norton. Um two guys on base, no outs, and they're laying down bunts. I guess, you know, we're we're in the fifth inning.
Thank you. Good evening. Brian Wisniewski, president of ETA. Um, I like to start by saying we are appreciative that there are no major cuts to program or staffing. Um, but still even to see seven positions, seven elementary school positions, and I know it's not people or staff, but positions, but still with um raising taxes last year to see that is a little disheartening. And I'm aware of the state aid challenges. I was there in Trenton. Um, but still just reducing those positions will put a strain on our current staff with class sizes. So, again, with raising taxes, we thought we would be good. So, that's all. Thank you. Hi. Patty Meeker, 10 Blanshard Road. I'm a little perplexed, um, cuz last year when I sat Well, I watched it at home, actually, the budget presentation. Um, and you voted to raise it the full 25% with around, I believe it was $8 million of that going towards capital projects that we were told were emergencies.
Please be respectful when addressing the board as well as be respectful of the speaker who has the podium and disruptions will not be tolerated. While the board greatly appreciates public comments, please understand that the board does not actively engage in dialogue during public comment. We do take all matters seriously and if there's a specific question or comment that does require followup, the appro uh appropriate me person will respond to you. So, we have Mr. Jablki. Thank you. Uh my name's Howie Jablucky. I am here tonight um along with other parents and student athletes u many of which who came right from practice sacrificing the start of their dinners and homework time to address the importance of of these comments um about the future of District 230 boys lacrosse. Um, I've previously sent comments to the board which outline many of my concerns and questions regarding the district's recent decision to disband the D230 co-op lacrosse team, but I wanted to speak tonight to emphasize a few points in the hopes that the district will reconsider this approach.
I found my copy from last >> here. And we had made one other small change on here. It said um uh >> so why don't we reopen the public hearing? >> All right. >> Right. Just for a motion to >> Okay. >> So I'll make a motion to reopen the public hearing. I think we need a motion if we closed it. >> There was a public meeting >> or a public meeting. >> Public hearing. So you a motion to open the public hearing. >> I'll make a motion to open the public hearing. >> Um do we need to vote on it or is it just reopen? You have to vote and then you have to vote to modify >> amend it. >> Can I do it in one motion? >> No, because you have to open it and then she has to >> That's fine.
Yeah. >> So, it's been a lot of close, evenly matched like series and it's going to be interesting to see, you know, who comes out in the East for sure. >> Yeah, it's interesting. You know, the teams that are down three and one, you know, it's do or die. they have to win the game. The teams that are up three are >> It'd be nice if we win, but but but I think like you say, once you get to three and two, you don't want to go to three and three. You don't want that to happen. So now I think you get these teams buckling down a little bit more, and it's going to make it a much more competitive game. >> And tomorrow night, the uh the Bruins game six. They won at the Celtics expense in their game five, >> right? >> To keep that series going.
