That one goes for a strike and now behind the count one and two >> looking to avoid striking out for the second time >> and he does. High fast ball from Price and Bratica swings through it. >> That is strikeout number seven after five. And the placement there by Price, you know, a couple of pitches down and inside like getting the inside edge um >> for strikes and then for the third strike going h, you know, high top of the um box and away catches that corner and it's just it's very tough for a batter to be able to get all over the place. >> A couple of words here now between the umpire and the Norton coach for some reason. >> The Ashland first base coach. >> Ashlin first base coach. >> I don't know if he's complaining about uh >> balls and strikes, but that's the last thing you want to complain about during the game.
Uh recently, the state released the second round, so that we'll have that for next year to continue using i-Ready in grades K through 3. Okay. That's for the continuation of i-Ready specifically in K through 3. Okay. Okay, thank you. Seeing no other questions or comments, may I have a roll call, please? Mr. Yates, on curriculum and instruction. On curriculum and instruction, Mr. DeMarce. Yes. Mr. Fisher. Yes. Ms. Cianelli. Yes. Mr. Masson. Yes. Mr. Pielman. Yes. Ms. Butrymowicz. Yes. Mrs. Noel. Yes. The motion carries. Thank you. Moving on to finance and operations. Do I have a motion to approve 9.1 through 9.17? Mr. Pielman, and seconded by Mr. De Marce.
So thank you for uh allowing us to go and and John congratulations. Congratulations. Um uh looking at page three um as you see there's a lot of work that we've done uh under the MTSS guideline for our EL program review and our sh and our transition uh to um aligning our program model at all three campuses. Uh we're very highly um hopeful and and optimistic that this will provide opportunities for our EL students as we've reported uh over the past 18 months in many of our metrics that's a population of students that struggle the most. So when it comes to our MTSS model, the program review we think is going to be a significant seismic shift in providing services and and programmatic uh alignment for our students who uh are in most desperate need to to stay up with their peers and and as we know um our EL students uh many of them have aspirations for college and and career beyond high school.
>> What's the number on that one? >> Um the there's multiple appraisals done. The higher of the two that the town did was 845,000. >> And where is it sitting in the town? >> It's like >> docket. >> Oh, it's um >> like before or after the big event. >> Oh, it's after the event. Yeah. So, >> it'll Yeah. So, it goes like I think there's two pretty quick there's like the reports, there's two pretty quick warn articles things. There's the one that everybody wants to talk about with the override. Then there's another one that should be pretty quick about moving money around in the town budgets. And then it goes into I think two different things from the CPC. One is the second one is this the town forest purchase. The first one is making bond payments that we have to do anyway. Um and then think I might be missing one.
>> Yeah. Frustrating to pitch that well and not >> have the wins to show for it, >> but looking like he'll get a win today. >> Think we do have somebody warming up for Norton maybe just in case. And it looks like it is uh Logan Irish, another lefty. >> Yeah, but he's he's their second best pitcher. So I I don't think is going to get any advantage here uh if Logan Irish comes in the throw. >> Definitely. Definitely not. >> But it'll be >> Caleb Luzon to lead it off. 67 and eight doo up here in the seventh. First pitch is skyed towards the dugout and it scatters >> Norton players nothing in one. from >> Z1. >> That's low. Falling a strike. >> Low and away. >> Dusk is falling. It's getting a little bit uh dimmer outside here. >> Yep. >> One ball, one strike.
>> Yeah, >> I think it just makes the umpire dig in a little bit uh to what they were doing. And cuz, you know, depending upon how you say it, you start yelling at somebody and that's, you know, forget it. You're not going to convince them. Have a respectful conversation. Maybe something will happen. >> Price will lead it off at the plate after a good inning on the mound. >> Yeah. >> Top of a six. So Hash might have a couple more uh opportunities, try to get back up a little bit while at the same time we have Norton uh trying to put a lot more runs on the board here. >> As you said too, you know, you know, the way MIAA rankings work, run differential is important. So you know, you do want to win, but you also want to see how many runs you can get up on the board to >> improve your your rankings.
At this time, do I have any questions? Any board members have questions or comments on all of the finance and operations? Mr. Peelmann. Yeah, I just wanted to point out that um based on conversations we had earlier, I'm sorry. I just wanted to point out that based on conversations we had earlier tonight, if you had refreshed your uh agenda for the evening, 9.8 was taken off of it, that we are not um uh selecting a superintendent search uh group today. So, that's not happening today. It's 9.9. 9.9 Oh. Whichever it was, it's not there anymore. It's completely gone. >> new 9.9. Thank god. So, just wanted to point that out. Okay, thank you. Do we have any other questions or comments for finance and operation items? Including Oh, I'm sorry. Mrs. Iannelli. Um I just wanted to comment in regards to the budget presentation. Um I just hope our administration team is dedicated to staying true to our mission statement and promoting excellence and ensuring that the environment, starting at the educational foundation, which is our elementary schools, that we are continuing to look at the class sizes and making sure that it is achieving that excellence that we promote in our mission statement.
So uh reaching their needs is optimistic. Uh we remain optimistic that we'll reach their needs. Um, and it's my compliments to Charles and his team uh for bringing that together. Program alignments are never easy. Uh, but I got to tell you that this has been a very seamless process and I think we're uh our our schools that are aligning to that um have a lot of uh good momentum moving forward. Uh, quickly page four. Um, as you heard with our curriculum uh review curriculum uh spotlight, I should say uh it was a big month for ACT. All of our juniors were very excited to take uh the ACT exam. um it went smoothly and and expeditiously, but it also um was uh an opportunity to highlight how we're integrating our ACT efforts within our curriculum. Uh I will tell you as somebody who came from the instructional world, that was a missing ingredient in our district for a very long time.
And then our planning one. >> Yeah. I mean, I'll and I'm al also going to be speaking on the one um for the secondary suite in-law apartment. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Um though it's not really in the planning board. >> Yeah, that one's the ninth one and then >> presenting the 10th one. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I would have really excited to listen to our full presentations on those at that point in the evening >> if they're still in the room. >> You know who the dieards are when >> Yeah. >> All right. Metro West. Anything with that, Steph? Did they meet at all? >> Um, they did. They did. And I missed that meeting. The timing has been changing every month. It's been very hard to keep track of. >> Hard to schedule. >> Yeah. >> And Yolanda was out too, I suppose.
He's grounded to third, but >> foul. That ball was bouncing all over the place down the third baseline is very uneven. >> The clock over there on third base was looking to field it and he's like watching the ball like I have no idea where this ball's going to go. So ball and two strikes here >> to Luzon. >> Conry delivers upstairs. Two balls, two strikes. two balls, two strikes. >> A fly ball out of play. >> Still two and two. >> Funny, the Norton bench is really loud and they quiet down a little bit like when the pitcher's about to pitch. >> Not Ashlin. >> The Ashlin bench is like a little bit loud and they start screaming when the pitcher is about to pitch. Two balls and two strikes again. >> That one bounced >> and the count is full. >> That one got away from >> Finn.
>> Definitely. So Connory will get back to work. >> Price will dig in >> in the two- hole. So two, three, and four >> duo. He's one for three. Scored a run earlier. >> Conry is ready with the first pitch. And that's a pop off >> into center. Oh, that one's way back there. And Laro can't get it. It's over his head. >> What a >> Price will take the turn and hold at second. And Laro is down there on his knees in center field. Uh hope he's all right. >> He He turned around very awkwardly trying to get to that ball. That was one of the deepest balls I've seen hit in center field here. And Laro had to kind of run to his right >> while he's watching the ball and turn around and try to get it. And then he did fall awkwardly.
So, I hope that we continue to look at the class sizes. I know that there was some positions for the elementary level, but I know that our team is dedicated and will continue to monitor to ensure that we have environments that are achieving the excellence that we're dedicated to in this district. So, I just wanted to comment that because that was discussed and and I think that we have a strong administration team that's going to look at that. So, I know that they will do the right thing in ensuring that especially at the elementary level that we will continue to be dedicated to that excellence. Thank you. Mr. DeMarzi. Thank you, Ms. Knoll. Um first, I just want to open up by saying thank you to everyone who went to Trenton about a month ago, Mr. Wiskowic, you know, Shawn, Justin, everybody was there. John John, you were there, I think, right?
Um test prep is nice, but test prep is uh tertiary to the core curriculum and learning opportunities. And despite the notion that teaching to the test, I think you heard um one of our one of our teachers present that uh Mr. Even present, you know, what we what kids have to exhibit on the ACT is part of the learning experience. It's not teaching to the test. Um the test prep might teach to the test, but that's for kids who want to take that elective opportunity. But the core curriculum, so again, Dr. Huffman and her team, uh it's it's still in a movement stage. It's still in motion. Uh but the framework is um is impressive. Um and then there's just one last uh opportunity I'll take on page five. Um we were very um and and I don't want to um put um anybody from our teacher association or sports staff association on on point.
So, >> yeah, it was Wednesdays, it became Thursday, then it became out. >> All right. So, and nothing for comprehensive plan obviously. >> Yep. Um all right planning updates anything um we you already said about housing production plan any updates on the 40bs or any or any or the shi any >> no updates the 55 west under >> and do we know anything about u shi if because the one the one project is completely approved, right? From high school. >> Yes. And that would get you safe harbor, but that doesn't that doesn't get you into that doesn't get your SHI above 10%. >> No. No. But but but I was wondering about the Safe Harbor. >> Yes, you would get into Safe Harbor, but we're still waiting for confirmation. >> No way. Okay. Um All right, then. Uh oh, the fee schedule. Did you >> Yes, I had that really briefly.
The full count. >> Three balls, two strikes from Conry. That's a fly ball into left center field. >> That's very playable. >> And Laro is there for it. Connory gets out number one. >> Yeah, unlike the uh the one where uh Oie went down, that one he came in on. So the ball was in front of him the whole time. Same thing, you know, going from his left to his right, but able to get under it and take an easy out there. >> Salem will bat next. He's 0 for one. He's walked and scored or brought home a run. First pitch is a ball again. >> All the other activities here on National Middle School are completed all the other sports every softball game frisbee practice and who knows what else was going on. as it's two balls and no strikes to Salem. >> The final inning of this one.
For a second off the bat, I thought it was just a routine popup, but obviously from this vantage point, it's tough to judge where a ball was going to go, but that one just kept carrying out there. Laro did give it a good effort, but it was a very awkward position that he attempted to make the play in. And uh coach Messer now out in center field. We'll see if he's all right. a lot of guys on the bench in case, but it looks like >> looks like he'll be all right. >> Yeah, he's running to his right and he catches with his left hand and trying to get his left hand up and around running that way and the ball was hit very high and we have a very uh over, you know, overcast day. So, it makes it really hard to see the ball up in the sky, especially when it's hit that high.
Were you there? >> Last year. Last year, that's right. Okay. Had to jog the memory. Thank you. Every year, I get on my soapbox and I'll spare you guys this year about how truly the only fundamental solution to education funding and or affordability in this community in the form of taxes comes through change in the school funding formula. And I don't think anybody's a stranger to that fact, but you look at how it operates where certain districts in New Jersey get some obscene percentage in state aid and then we we get the shaft with 7% you know, and and we're just kind of trying to figure out how our community has to face the burden of funding an entire system of education with countless employees. I mean, you know, it's you saw tonight 80% of our budget is salaries and benefits, right? I mean, and and that's money that ultimately has the biggest impact on any kid.
Um but we had a really good opportunity to look at the smart pass system which Andrew has graciously um piloted here at at the school. Um and it's been a win-winwin. Um the staff are uh really highly in favor of it. Uh our students don't love it. I I know you don't love it, but they understand that the purpose of it and and and it was a smooth transition for their use of it. Um and the metrics that we found in terms of uh less students in the hallway, more understanding of why students in their hallway, uh making sure students are going to the right place at the right time, um has exponentially increased. And so we're going to continue that to the to the other two schools next fall. um and Institute Day was a nice opportunity to unveil that but also to provide some insight to to our staff at Stag and uh Samberg in particular um as to what that might entail.
So this is essentially we're just asking if we can update our fees. Currently the way the fees are written now we only charge for we charge the abut butters list but we only charge up to sorry thank you. We have a fee right now for a butters list but we only charge up to $50 for an abuter. So the way abutters work is that you have to notify every abuer within 300 ft of the property when an application comes in. you have to notify the abuing towns and then you also have to send out the decision once the decision is rendered. So typically $50 doesn't actually cover that cost and recently we did have not for this board but for another board an applicant that came forward that had 500 abutters and that does happen. So the town has just been absorbing this cost and in addition to that we don't charge anything for legal ads.
>> Walker is looking to avoid a six and five record as that's a strike. >> And obviously six and five is not a bad record, but one that the clockers probably aren't satisfied with. >> That's a strike. Wow. It's two and two. Good job Finn there battling back from all into a two and two. >> Two balls, two strikes. Strike three. >> Salem could not believe it. >> A look of shock in his eyes, but it is strike three. And that is out number two. Two up, two down here for Finn Conry. >> Yeah, that did look out of the zone down the bottom, but >> we'll take it. Don't go flat off of that. Connory >> face DJ >> Compagnan will take a strike nothing and one >> Clockers will have Turncliff McCoy and Laro 89 and one that one's upstairs and for now it looks like five runs is the amount they'll need try to keep this game going.
