>> Center field is one of the toughest positions that you can play. Hey, I mean, you're out there with a ton of real estate. You're not playing a a a foul line. You're not playing with any boundaries. You're responsible to make a lot of running catches. Sometimes can't get to him. Ezekiel Ferraro will bat as Gu will talk again with Conry. So, Price with his second hit. Two hits at the plate. Five innings on the mound. He's done a lot here for Norton. Big part of why >> they have a five-run lead. >> Ferraro's one for two. >> Also has a sacrifice on the afternoon. Here's the first pitch. That's a strike. >> Good fast ball. >> Always toughest for pitchers, too, when you have a runner on second base. It's It's always going to be a blind spot for everybody. It's not like first base where you have a >> your first baseman there are holding the runner on.
I mean, you think back to when you were in school, you don't necessarily remember what kind of textbooks you were using, you remember your teachers. You remember the people, the personnel. And so it ultimately is a game of dollars and cents. Um of of just trying to balance the budget every year because of the lack of support we receive from the state. So to again to Mr. Wisniewski, uh to Sean, to everybody who was there in Trenton, um every time we go up there it seems like we make a little bit more progress and just bend in their ear trying to get their attention. And it's not just us, it's a lot of other towns in the whole state of New Jersey as well trying to communicate this that again taxes aren't going to go down, education is not going to have enough funding until they change the SFRA.
So I think it was a great partnership. I think it was a a reminder that when we collaborate with our association leadership on what they need and what we can provide uh we can hit that win-winwin.
The town absorbs all of that cost and it's anywhere from $180 to $250 per legal ad per application. And this is the first community I've been in that doesn't charge their applicants for these fees. So I recommend updating the fee schedule so that way the applicants are paying for their butter fees and their legal ads versus the town >> and and we get to approve this. >> Yes. This is within your authority. This does not have to go to town meeting. This is within your authority to update your fees. >> So um the is what you're showing in yellow. >> That's what's proposed >> proposed. So, >> the existing says butter a butters list up to $50 is what it is and nothing for legal ad is what the current fee schedule looks like. >> I'm um yeah, I'm I'm okay with that. But yeah, this is the process and you kind of need to pay for part of the process.
>> Only five runs. >> Swing and a miss. Good pitch there from Connory and it's one and two. >> Yeah, nice off speed pitch. >> Connor's looked pretty good out of the bullpen so far. >> Trying to finish up three innings of relief work. >> One, two is outside. >> Yeah. Yeah, >> one ball, two strikes. >> Ground ball to Shriber at short. Takes another high hop, but he gets it over in time to retire the side. We're seventh inning stretch here. as the clockers are down to their final three outs. It looks like Price will come out for the seventh. 6-1 Lancers. >> Yeah, kind of surprising Price to come out. Um he was pitching really well, but you know, maybe he >> isn't that Price >> that is. Yes. Okay, >> so Turncliffe McCoy Monroe. >> What's that face dumping? >> I have no idea.
It's a little bit of a gain. >> It's a called strike there. >> Quickly nothing and two here to Ferrara. >> Good job there by Finn getting ahead on the count AFTER having a runner on second with no outs. Here's the O2. That's a high fly into center. Laro is going back again, but he will settle under it and make the catch. Price will tag for third and the throw is cut off by Shriber on a hop. So, a fly out get the runner over to third for Norton with one away and Adam Caldwell the catcher will dig in. >> Yeah, very easy tag up there. That ball again was hit very deeply to right center field and it just made the throw from there so long for Ali that uh I don't think a uh professional major league center fielder would be able to get the ball to third base on that hit.
It's not going to happen. And we're going to continue to have to sit here and have these conversations year after year. Um I say this not happily. I think all of my fellow board members will probably tell you I'm probably, you know, biggest tax hawk on this board. I don't know if there's there's much of a much of a debate there. Um but this year there was a significant amount of compromise. Um you we see, you know, not only just with the 2% levy, uh which I wasn't happy about from last year seeing the massive tax increase we had, but we also, you know, had to get a little tightening of the belt. So I think seeing both of those things show that we're looking forward to a future that tries to take multiple factors into account when meeting our budget obligations. So um I'm I'm I'm happy with with with the product we came up with.
So um those are my highlights but again I will always uh be able to respond to any questions within those areas or any others that you may have. I just want to compliment you with that implementation of that because you kept us ab breast of that especially at student support and we had feedback that was tweaked based on the honest answers from the students and the staff and there was a great deal of collaboration especially from the buildings that didn't have it yet where they could ask the students their honest feelings about it. So thank you for the work on that to the whole team. All right, next board comments. We'll start with member Danlow. No comments. Okay. Member Kelly. No comments. Me? Yep. Okay. Uh so as we come to the end of another school year, um I just wanted to say that in the 13 years that I've been on the school board, I think this was absolutely the hardest, toughest, most difficult year that I've gone through.
Um I do think there should if there isn't already, you can let me know. Um if there isn't already, I do think there should be some kind of um caveat about that you can apply for a waiver to that or >> we don't recommend that for these fees because then the town absorbs it. So, we recommend that you can request a waiver from your application fee, but these fees should be paid regardless. This is the first community I've been in. This is the first town anyone has heard of doesn't charge the applicants for their >> understood. But, um, for instance, um, I'm thinking of a homeowner that might, you know, could be on a, you know, >> it's the board's perview. whatever you choose to do. >> Could be it could be on a fixed income. It could be a but could be right next door to um uh one of these large apartment buildings and just by sheer luck, you know, or and then and then they have all those abutters, >> right?
>> Somebody's got some uh powerful base in their car. >> So, have you done your uh proposal? >> Oh, yes, definitely. I have. Yes. Was it uh unnerving a little bit or no? Just >> just, you know, get it over with. >> Yeah. Once you come up with the idea, it's just kind of executing on it, right? >> Just making sure it doesn't look stupid. >> When's the prom? >> Uh May 8th, next Friday. >> Wow. >> Yeah, I know. It's crazy. >> Yeah. >> A lot of a lot of schools do a senior prom, but Ashlin just does the junior one, right? So >> that's nice. He seems got a lot of stuff going on, you know. you know, give something to the juniors. >> A lot of the seniors I end up going to just, you know, has friends. >> True. >> Just, you know, cuz they want to go one more time.
So that that was a great sacrifice fly. >> Caldwell's had a great afternoon. He's been good behind the plate. Two for three at the plate. He scored a couple times. He also has an RBI. Chance for another one here. He takes upstairs. >> So, one ball and no strikes from Conry >> to the cleanup man. Infield is in on the grass here for the Clockers. That one is outside. Good stop by Guo and it's two and0. >> Yeah, nice quick stop there by Guo. could have got by him. It was down and away. >> Price inches down the line. Two and0 is a strike. Good pitch there. It caught the outside corner. >> That was a good pitch. Umpire really slow on >> jumping up with his well strike calls. two and one. >> That was a timeout called there >> by Caldwell. Little bit of a late one as Connor was ready to go into the uh stretch there.
Um we're going to always continue to try to be as efficient as possible. I think that's very important, you know, for all future boards. Um and that's ultimately what's going to help us stave off, you know, the future challenges that the state's going to continue to impose on us. If you could go next year, please do. Uh I look forward to seeing you guys there in Trenton, so thank you guys. Ms. Knoll. Um I just want to add to that as well. I know this is exactly what we need little fuzzy thing on the end. But um So when I decided to come to the school board, our job, right, our mission is to make sure that the schools we don't run the schools, we make sure they're well run, right? Um and the work is not done. The work is not completed and we said that before.
worse than 2020 when I was president during COVID. And that and that's hard to believe. I never thought I could go to a worse year than that, but this year was was not even close to that. Um, the amount of negative publicity, the amount of negative comments, the the one-sidedness of of print media. So many things were said negatively about this board, about the staff of our district. It was horrible. Tonight, we witnessed all the wonderful things that have occurred in this district this year. Okay? And that's because of this staff, that's because of this board, that's because of our students. But if you read the papers this year, and I found out why I don't read the papers anymore, you wouldn't know that. You would have thought this district was on fire, okay? And that everything was falling apart, okay? Far from the truth.
Where um >> you Well, I don't know. Do you have to send it to every renter that's in the apartment complex or just the building? the idea that that one person would be doing a special permit or a site plan, what would constitute that they would have to do that for their I mean it's it's up to the board if you want to be a it's up to you if you want a but list if you're if you have a >> if you're if you're um doing an addition that goes well I guess that would be you don't need to notify to do an addition >> that would be zoning what you do if you do if you go over the property line the setback line but that would be >> right that's a different that's an application here's the In some ways, it's news to us.
>> Yeah. I did see there's a lot of seniors and a lot of sophomores that are uh >> going to this one. A good a good uh a good mix. Yeah. >> The junior class likes to date up and down. >> Oh, yeah. >> It looks like next Friday, see 52 degrees in Ashland. Says a little rain, but still a little while away. Yes. So the next game Monday they uh Ash plays Milis who is 0 and7. >> Wow. Um but then they face Medfield. It's 8-2. Um you know very strong team number four in TVL. And then they go to Hopington where they actually had their first win again. First game of the season they beat Hington. >> Hopkins is actually a D1 team >> and doing pretty well at six and four. So that that'll be a challenge. They have a >> hopefully an easier game and then maybe a couple of challenging games coming up over the next over next week.
>> Yeah, very very late. Conor had to like hold off is actually beginning to pitch. >> That's strike two >> and the count is even. Seems like every time the Empire calls a strike, he's saying strike three. The way he says it, >> it is two and two. >> Norton players have to gargle tonight with salt water. I mean, I think their uh throats are going to be all scratched, screaming all game >> as that one's fouled away onto the turf. >> It remains two and two. >> We're players get excited about whatever happens. >> Two and two to Caldwell. That's a ball in the dirt and the count is full. >> Three balls, two strikes from Conry to Caldwell. >> It's ball four. >> And that is the third time in four plate appearances that Caldwell will reach first base. >> Oh, look at the throw.
We said it during the preliminary budget and we're saying it now today that we're continuing to look at ways we can cost save, cost share, cost, etc. I want to appreciate and and thank the members tonight that came up and spoke about the budget comments. Um all valid points and we're looking again continuing to figure out what we can do right, what we can do better, what we can do to improve. Um Aiden, your point was my first time going to Trenton, going to the State House. It was kind of a humbling experience walking through that and not like the new security center, but also all the way up into the sitting at dais. Um and I that what was amazing to me is I think all of us know we sat there for about 4 hours. They were about 2 and 1/2 hours delayed and that was before sitting a day prior that they were 2 hours delayed on a Zoom call.
But that's not why how it was portrayed. and everybody got some of those wonderful ROOC calls that called all of us out. All of them were pretty much untrue. Okay, this was a horrible, horrible year. Okay, we don't get paid. We're volunteers. Okay, our staff, superintendent are human beings who deserve respect. They were not given that this year. This board was not given that this year. Okay. And yet tonight we saw the goodness that comes out of our district. Okay. But how much of that will be told? What will go out in a call about that? What will be said in the paper about that? I don't know. I just wonder. The only thing that sells now is negativity. And it's terrible. It's horrible to everybody who was involved. And Jen, my heart goes out to you, okay? You have done a fabulous job since you have been here.
We had this power. Great. We have the jurisdiction. In theory, the public can come to us and complain. If people complain, if this is becomes unreasonable, then we can edit it just like everything else. To me, this seems reasonable, especially if our planner is recommending it based on experience with other towns. Sounds like a great savings to the town. Let's save us some money. >> I was also, well, where do these numbers come from? two per a butter and plus $7.80. I almost thought those were lower than what I was expecting you to put on there. So, >> so it's $2 per a butter because we do out certified cards, which is 50 cents. So, we have to notify them of the application and then we have to notify them of the decision. So, that's a um I'm sorry, it's above 50 cents. I forget what it is per but that's about what it breaks out to to send out the notification for the card and then the notification of the decision.
>> Hopefully these games can propel them into the playoffs. >> Right. >> Had no game Friday so everybody could uh attend the prom. >> Yes. >> So Austin Turniff will leave it off. Ashland down to their final three outs against Price who has thrown six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts, seeking double digits. First pitch is a strike on that fast ball that looks like it hasn't lost a tick since that first inning. >> No. Uh Price is throwing great. >> Quickly delivers the 01 and it's weekly on the ground to first. Herrera will toss. Good. The ball's dropped. Ferraro tossed it to Price who was covering. >> It looked like uh Turniff ran into Price and the ball came loose. It was a another one of those bang bang plays. We saw that earlier. >> That's the second time we saw like kind of a missed toss there at first base.
