Frontier, etc. Franklin County are part of this. >> Okay. >> So, they spend some of the money and then we pay them their portion. So we hold the cash in cash, right? Okay. >> And we're running that bill. So you'll you see the whole bill >> at$7,000. We're really only paying them 16471 for that phone bill to pay their portion of it. >> So we're getting the whole amount and we're just >> the distributor or the grant. Somebody had to act as they say the fiscal agent. >> Got it. seven bill and also some uh reimbursement for some payroll people that they work on particularly on this grant. >> Okay. Okay. Because that's a big phone bill. I was like >> the phone itself 1647. >> Okay. Okay. Got it. >> And who is Walker Solutions and why are we giving them money? special education tuition.
So that we might have two or three of us um for like somebody one group can do regionalization, one group can do building um either consolidation or construction. Uh one group can think about redistribution across buildings. Um [clears throat] uh there's an another idea that came forward uh about community schools and I know that Framingham is doing a lot of work around community schools and what that does is brings in a lot more of these um places like community action or places you know or or like the YMCA of these other non-school entities that actually have a lot to do with our school families. with our like with the actual community of of students and families and provide services. And in some models that I've read about, those entities actually kind of have little outposts in the building um and provide service directly in the building as a way to um like sort of like consolidate that service and have it more accessible to families.
>> Okay. Um >> so similar to a question that you had asked about St. Agents, >> right? That is um >> I've been there beautiful place >> that was student was placed by DCF and then now that we are financially responsible for the suit except >> parents living in Greenfield. >> Wow. I was not allowed to place a kiddo there. >> We did not place food there. DCF >> it's an amazing place. So this child is in a good place which >> cuz I've tried to do the same thing. Um, okay. That's interesting. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Larry, that's all for me. Thank >> I I didn't get a chance to go over the warrants that came out during April break. So, >> I just had a question right now about what up out of this batch the R I >> read the copiers. >> Yeah.
Um, but some people just have like a lot more like I'm not exactly sure how it works, which is why I would maybe want to look into it, but it we know that we're a community where a lot of our families receive services of of varying types, um, we just are that. And so if there's a way that we can make it easier for families to access them, more streamlined, and also I know that a lot of our nonprofits in the area um are being constrained by some of the same factors of rising rent, um higher utility, wage pressures upwards, and like less funding. if there's a win that we can keep those services here as well that we know our families are going to access anyway, maybe that's something to look into as well. But so the general idea would be to have like a small group focused on that and then reporting out to the big to the advisory committee as a whole.
>> Is that for all those press in your email password >> BS that everyone's already annoyed with five minutes later? >> Yes. Question for Ian. >> So what was what was that it or what? So now all of our copers >> R I C H. So now all of our copers, >> you have to punch in >> a user >> user ID. You don't even punch it in any user ID. >> No, you don't even do that. You take your badge and just >> Yeah. >> You just not even scan. It's a >> you know you some of the doors you just >> wave. That's what you do. >> So what is your question? So the reason we did >> I just didn't know what that was for. I mean it could be for thousands of dollars. >> It could be for that and it could be for the high school received a couple new copies as well too because on the second floor there was only one >> and teachers had to walk a long way and we did find that it was >> cost efficient doable not doable and we agreed with them on that.
Um, [clears throat] we could always also have all of us do a deep dive into any one of these topics, but take a month or two, like take a couple of months per, you know, as a whole group. Like we can organize ourselves sort of in any way that we would like. Um, yes, member web. >> Um, sorry, I just don't want to interrupt you. What is the dynamics looking like? Like how many community members are we thinking? How many parents are we thinking? How many staff are we thinking? Are we thinking like three of each? Two of each. >> Yeah. So, we >> I don't know what the makeup was of the superintendent search. And I really want I really want to emphasize I really want to make sure we have community stakeholders who are not just parents. And um >> sorry, one of my I have one more group to get through the book fair.
The reason we're doing the badge printing, we'll call it that, is because prior to this, people were sending things to printers. And at times, we all get busy and things go to printers and you're walking into, I'll use the word, copy rooms, labs, wherever the printer was. And people have lots of things laying on the table that they come in >> and it's human nature to stand there. and I would stand there and look and see an IEP or I might see an angry email from a parent to a teacher or I might see things that shouldn't have been for my eyes in that scenario. What this batch printing does, it eliminates that, right? The you can send things to the printer and what the great part is before you only could send to one printer. Now you send it to the printer and no matter where you go in our schools, if you hit that it will print out for you.
Um, but you know, I want to just make sure that we have >> Yep. So, we have up to 10 that we voted on uh as a full committee. Um, and we say parents, staff, students, and other members. So, we can kind of choose right now. Um, what's the makeup that we would like? That's a group, that's a decision we can come to organically and together. Um I would love like let's see if we had kind of two parents, two staff, two students, two other members of the community and then two others like two ad hoc just like they can make three parents or three staff or whomever sort of as people apply. But I think at a minimum it would be nice to have two of each. the student. >> So, two students, two parents, two staff, two community members, and then like two others.
So if I send something from my office to generally I use the printer right outside my office but if I go to the high school I can hit that badge hit it right there it will print for me right there and we eliminate you know a lot of confidentiality privacy issues and it helps everybody doing that. >> Third bill that um show like 3337 is actually our um monthly recommends our monthly monthly basis. I just >> every month every month would pay like similar amount. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then I had one question. You know, I look at the bills and are are we buying supplies for next year already? It sort of looks like we may be, which is fine. I just >> want to place a paper border soon. >> Yep. >> So, yeah. were in May. So, I have to request >> I use 20 cases every year.
>> Whatever cate as long as they're community. >> Yeah. >> Or schoolbased or what they fall into one of those categories. >> Okay. >> What do people folks think of that? Or is there any group that we think should have greater proportion of representation? >> I think that sounds good. >> Okay. But I think that maybe maybe with the two wild cards, it might be nice to have like somebody from housing like you were talking about or somebody from a youth organization >> um to have preference for those spaces. I mean, community members obviously, but that have background in those things whether they have uh children in the district or not. I just want to make sure that we tap the ultimate green field brain trust that exists. >> I like that two wild card concept. I like just having it written like that, like knowing that what we're looking for is somebody who comes to us with some experience of unhoused um and how to help that in the community and other you know.
>> Um I think this this is not on the agenda, but it's a question I'd really like to just have answered. Just curious where everyone is standing at for their field trip fund. So, I know each building has a field trip fund and I'd just be curious to know. >> Yeah. >> I mean, I know where the building I'm in frequently, >> but I'm curious. I just want to make sure our kids are going on the field trips if we are putting money towards that and that's being used for what it's intended. I will say having worked in many districts, I know you have as well too. Some of you been parents in other districts, pretty amazed that we pay full for most of our field trips here. I've really never seen that done before where people don't have a stake in the game. And I'm not saying they should have to pay, right?
>> Yeah. And >> yeah, I think that's important because like what we're really doing is actually like visionary work, you know, and >> the only reason that the things exist around us is because somebody had the idea to do it like the like you know for what however anybody feels about the library, somebody had to push that into existence with the help of a lot of other people. Like they had to create the momentum and the group and the community spirit to do it. So if we're doing that essentially is what we're wanting to make recommendations to do these things. We want people who like have experience with doing that, with saying, "Hey, this thing should be over there and this is why or we should change this thing because of that." and not be afraid to say it and like reach for bigger things because I just don't I just think that looking around at all at how all of these communities around us are struggling and nationwide how everybody is struggling like the only way to combat that the apathy, the difficulty, the lack of funding is to maybe think outside the box to really think of new ways of doing things and to put new things into practice that maybe we're not used to.
But where you charge somebody5 or $10 to go to the museum or something like that. Um, >> it was a commitment. I mean we all for years we um >> so I'm applauding you right saying it's pretty good because that does not happen. >> Poverty in our community is real and um it's a commitment to the children. Um we were lucky enough we had millions of dollars of grant money that helped with a lot of it and then that just a superintendent decided to kill that off. So now it's more it went into the budget and I was one of the the mouths that said you just killed my grant. What are you going to do about it? And so that was there. So um and I don't know if this is in the warrants. So I I is the question are we prepaying any special ed tuitions?
And that takes people with experience in those areas. So, I would really like to hear from them because there are other models that we may not even be thinking about. >> I I mean, I'm just enjoying just hearing us even talk about like 10 years, maybe we could have a beautiful elementary school with like an indoor track and some pickle ball courts, you know? Like I mean I know I'm dreaming of being big in a swimming pool and you know having it be you know having a beautiful auditorium as well and you know our services under one roof so our staff members aren't driving back and forth all day >> space for the kids that have different needs that they can actually have those needs right there fulfilled >> and and seeing more of like the the buddies you know I just saw the I just saw the fourth and the kindergarten buddies walking down together and it was like super touching, you know, and like maybe having the preschool under the, you know, under the roof, you know, maybe we're looking at a K through five or a K through six or, you know, maybe we're looking at something a little different.
Okay. Because I wasn't sure when I saw the bills. So those are this fiscal year. >> This fiscal year. Okay. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Um, can I I want to bump off a Roland's comment about the field trip funds. Um, that is not 100% true. Um, some field trips at GMS families have been asked if they would be willing to donate5 or $10, but it says right on the form, this is not required, but we, you know, we're going to go to an IMAX theater. if you could help us out and donate $5 and like it's saying like your kids's going to go see this. They're going to go ice skating regardless, >> but if you can help out, please help out. And I think that's a really better way that we should start phrasing things as a school and probably hopefully a conversation we can have with Carol >> um later but about you know phrasing it like hey you're still going to go on the field trip but if you could kick in >> you know because some some parents it makes you I don't know MJ was like $4 to go to the going to the planetarium through Boston Science Museum was $4 for the planetarium and I gave her like $5 but It makes parents feel good >> when they are able to kick in even if it's just a dollar that they were >> you know helping support stuff.
I don't know. But then like I'm coming back to like where where's this going? Like, you know, and that's something we really would need to hammer out later at a later date. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, and that's kind of our whole job. We have about a year to figure out where we're going. Uh, that's >> that's great. Um, thinking about our process because a year sounds like a long time, but in the in the land where you only meet once a month, it's not. It's 12 12 sessions together. Um, like this is our sort of prelim. I would love to get a sense from you both of when would we like to meet next because we have a couple of options. We can you can empower me to sort of create the form that people fill out to nominate themselves, say a little bit about who you are, like how you're connected, why you want to be part of this group.
>> We always tell principles you know like if they need money for a field trip always contact business office you know because some grants or some help that we can help them. >> Yeah. So, um, as of today, AL has available budget $1,75. >> What did you say? 1,00 >> 1075. >> Okay. >> Pedro Street, 14617, four corners 3,87831. >> Wait, wait, wait, hold on. You said Okay. Federal Street was 1,400 >> 617 >> 1406. >> There we go. >> 17. >> I missed a zero there. >> For years, >> y >> 3,87831. Middle school 92950. Uh, middle school 4,85136, high school 3,49718. >> And we are getting I don't have to tell any of you into the height of >> field trip season. We were just talking about buses. We had 18 this morning with all >> post MCAST MC. Oh, today at high school >> and it's tomorrow and >> it's today at third and fourth is doing it today and tomorrow and then high schools.
Um tell us a little bit more about like the areas of expertise or understanding [clears throat] or exposure to the community. Like what's your deal? Um so that when we're reviewing everyone, we can um be like, "Okay, we want to maybe prioritize this person because they have utilized these services or we want to prioritize this person because they have this type of lived experience or you know, like so we can do some of that." Um and then meet in a month to actually review people or we can meet in a couple of weeks and we can work on creating that that like nomination form together. Um and then and then sometime in June get people. Does that distinction make sense? Either you empower me to go forth and we start recruiting now and the next time we meet we're looking through potential people and deciding um or uh or we meet again and sort of like really formalize and shore up this process and then start recruiting after [clears throat] that.
>> Best year ever as I sent all the little kids on a field trip while my big kids took the young kids. >> It was a great day. and they were coordinating this morning buses with bus and asbescus and >> lot more days >> it's great to hear because you know for many years we didn't do a lot of field trips across the district >> so I'm glad to hear that like we are okay do we have any other warrants questions or are we ready to move on to the next item >> next item >> okay next item is discuss session of setting our next subcommittee meeting date because with uh the mayor's budget and us needing to revise ours, we will need to consult and give our opinions. >> Owens over here. >> Um so I talked to Aaron this morning. She is going to not yet send me the mayor's budget.
I like the idea of meeting and and showing up the process together just because >> I've noticed that we have a lot of work on our plates as a school committee this year. Like there's a lot of work going on >> and I think that as much labor as can be delegated in the meetings, like if we can bang things out as a group >> Mhm. I think that that's better than leaving it all to one person or I just I just have I have a lot of work like policy is so much work right [laughter] now and there's so many things that I'm like writing and all my emotions and my blah blah blah blah and I just know that everybody's feeling that or maybe I don't know who's feeling that way other than me but I am and so I would love to do it together so that it's just like I'd like to take more bite-sized pieces together.
