>> She's beloved, guys. Miley Peg, teacher's pet. Next up, I believe she's our first ever female class MVP, shattering that glass ceiling. It's Valeria Bahena. Here she comes. Valeria, an MVP, most valuable player. We'll call you the most valuable person. What sets you apart? >> I think what sets me [music] apart is how involved I am in very different things like athletic clubs and other organizations here and [music] then maybe my kindness. >> Kindness, we love that. So, you're saying involvement and actually being nice to other [music] people makes you valuable. >> I guess so. >> Valeria Bahena, everybody, our class MVP. West Chicago, we found one of the seniors that we couldn't crown this morning. [music] On his way to PE, I'm here with Jose Melay, a danger to Cur McGee. [music] Jose, can you walk us through what's happened at Cur to win you this distinction?
This award highlights their commitment to spreading STEM throughout the community. Congratulations to these incredible achievements. At this time, if we can make sure all coaches and administrators come on up to join these students in a photo. >> What an awesome >> That was a great start. >> Yeah. So proud of the >> So many So many unique accomplishments as well, you know, and shows how much >> our team is here and >> Yeah, and how talented our students are and the broad interests they bring to us. We're going to go to action items 5.1. Action item approval of district administrator contracts. Can I have a motion, please? >> I make a motion to approve the district administrator contracts as discussed and presented. >> Second. >> Ms. Wenmoth? >> I. >> Ms. Sea? >> I. >> Mr. Serone? >> I. >> Dr. Morio? >> I. >> Dr.
>> Board members, I'll entertain a motion. >> The board of school trustees approved the accommodation for the AHS World Guard as presented. Second. >> Motion by Josh, seconded by Kim.
I have a question that may be too broad of a question. I'm looking at Jamie. Um so, the policies and administrative guidelines are only as good as the people following them, right? So, can you talk about the training measures that are currently in place that That would be you, right? That's conducting the train Can you just share a little bit more in detail about what training looks like? Yeah, grab the mic, please, Jamie, just so that it's uh comes on to uh YouTube. Oh, yeah. Use that one there. Um just as an an example, in January we conducted an internal controls training for extracurricular activities. We had the ECA treasures from each school, elementary, middle, and high school, as well as the principals and athletic directors for each of those facilities. We brought them in. We went through our policies that are dictated by the state plus some others we've implemented.
Um so, um don't don't feel bad if you do that. We are going to go ahead and move forward to the uh presentation and recognition for Dr. Moore, the Superintendent Student Advisory Council. >> Thank you. And at this time, if all members of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council want to join me at the front here, just stand here and look pretty for y'all cuz I don't know what's on his >> I am so excited for this group to be here tonight. These students here were very brave and applied to be part of the first superintendent student advisory council. They were chosen amongst many students that were eager for their voices to be heard, meeting with me on a regular basis to talk about what's going well at our school district, the improvements that need to be made, and to go back to their peers and gather information and bring it to me.
I miss you guys. You're pros. Oh, yeah. If I didn't become a second grade uh teacher, it was going to be a cowgirl. So, hey. >> [laughter] >> I was a cowgirl, so I think I made a good choice. Yeah, yeah. I know I can't. I might have a broken hip or two, but >> [laughter] >> So, thank you very much. Enjoy, right? >> [applause] [applause] >> Thank you guys. >> All right. Any patron concerns this evening? All right. Uh new approval of the minutes. There we go.
A lot of people agree that this is the best way for them to learn and from all things that can stall your learning and pro be protected from all things that can stall your learning. Some people can't learn the way um that you know most people can or anything like that. And then they need to be able to learn on their own time or in their own way. And then uh lastly, Viking success is just a way for people to graduate who like never thought that they would. Hello, my name is Mason. Um, I don't really have a speech prepared, but um, I'm a senior now and I've been in the program since my sophomore year. And my freshman year, I wasn't in school either, just because different life events. And, uh, when I started, they told me I had a very narrow window if I wanted to graduate.
Um we anticipate that um hopefully that there's some relief over the summer when we're not using as much fuel. We use very little over the over the summer and that prices hopefully we can begin to come back down. We do appropriate for this type of of uh increase because there's always unknown. So, um, we anticipate that. Okay. In our appropriation, that's all I >> don't we always get a bid and we lock in a certain price or >> it's not a lock. You don't lock in a certain price. You lock in a certain margin. >> Okay. >> So, it's kind of like their profit and then as the the market dictates the price and there's only a margin on that. Okay. >> Again, we don't pay taxes. So what you see at the pump right now because they on taxes in Indiana close to what we're paying would be a little less than any other question.
So I'm just going to talk a little bit about uh PECAP at the academy. So you may be like PEK or PCAP? Well, it's really the same thing, but across the state, it has turned to PCAP. They've changed the name um as to not confuse people with the early college part of the PEK name. So, um University of Indianapolis, um they already sponsored the early college program, right? Um so, when we came on PCAP or PEK, it kind of was a little bit confusing. So they've shifted the name a bit and not every school that was a PEK school were was encouraging their students or had the pathways for students to be an early college um pathway. So now it's pathways and careers and postsecary. So um same name or different name impressive results. So if you are a PCAP student at the academy this is your pathway.
It's been, it really was the start of democracy. And we cannot say that town meeting, I think, is perfect democracy. We know the ways people can be left out. Our town is doing a great job of dealing with one of them by having child care. Um there there's I believe it's Wayland is lobbying the state about having a remote participation which means if you're away for work you might be able to call in but in the meantime >> we could do more and and and I'll leave it open to you to say more. But I I I guess along that lines we could >> I think allow remote questions which isn't the same as remote voting. our town could move forward with some things to make it uh more available to people because that's one of the big complaints we hear from people just in general, >> right?
Oh my god. And so on the checks and balances side, we we're at a little deficit there. Yeah, I'm really glad you brought that up because it plays right into these other topics under the umbrella. Documents required by law, letting the people speak and I've got some examples of what happened to me. The strong town manager form of government, spending without town meeting or select board approval. And uh anyways, all right. So, documents required by law. So, I enjoy talking to people and if I see someone in another town doing citizen engagement stuff or I see they've written a letter to the editor, whatever, I will contact them and so I'm so glad I did because I learned from someone I met in another town that by state law, it's chapter 40, section 49, we are supposed to have an annual an annual town report before I believe the annual Yeah, and that that law that state law it's interesting.
>> Yeah. >> In that. >> I think so too. And I'm just going to the one um bad girls um have their own community meeting. I was on Facebook and I noticed that there are um some residents in Marboro who are concerned about all the developments. So they are holding their own meeting. Um I don't know where they're having it but they had the agenda. It was already totally organized and we had talked about that maybe at the first or second conversation that we had and I I really think we need to have one too. It doesn't have to be, you know, not government sponsored, people sponsored. >> Um, so, you know, people can hear other other sides of the same issue. And I just I I meant to mention that Paul Newman is a bad girl in a cool folk. Um, all right. So the topics under the umbrella topic are why transparency, obtaining public records, uh town manager, select board goals and objectives and subject suggested improvements in how our government and the residents communicate with each other.
And someone this is another town did a very thoughtful of like five things to look at before you seriously get into >> like cutting someone's job because I I think all of us would not want that. But we also have to realize budgets have to work. Like >> if you aren't making enough money, do you add another streaming service at your house? >> Mhm. I don't. >> Right. So, first the first cut she was saying is non-essential and discretionary spending such as travel conferences, training, consultation not tied to critical oper operations. So, I think you have some examples, right? >> I do. I did a public records request on the uh town manager's budget because it's one I've never looked at and it's one of the large it's it's a large one. So I noticed um that it was in March we paid $5,600 for the College of Charleston Athenia webinar.
>> And Laura Lykelette pops one up to the third Oh, she drops the ball. That's going to be an error on the third baseman keeping this inning alive and here comes Haley Buterman with the bases loaded and two outs, but could be a costly error there by the third baseman. Yeah, that ball was right there in her glove. I think it just caught the heel of the glove a little bit too much and popped out, which is a great break for Ashton. If Ashton had a base hit here, especially maybe something over the right field, will score a couple of runs. Nice if we can take advantage and Buterman hits a pop fly to the shortstop. She does not drop that one. Maureen Lucky completes the inning. The Clockers leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. They have no runs off of one hit and one error by the Mustangs, it is all locked in at 0-0 after one.
Um, we held two screenings this spring that a little bit differently. Um, but I mean I think that our staff concerns about um the sizes of those classes coming up. Um, and you know talked about that in the past. We've allowed students. We have a scale for that. So, I guess I just want to make sure you guys kind of orientation and we're over at this that 20 kids per class. That is a 20 per class, not an average of 20 per class. Right? >> The capacity is hard and we usually try to a couple get out. So we usually just do usually transition usually have some space as well. >> Um I'll save the the grading scale piece that we have in there for for here in a little bit with Mr. Baldwin. >> Um we posted our middle school track meet. Again, um if you've not been to one of our invitationals, it just it moves very well.
So, any questions? Thank you. >> We also had um a great week of teacher appreciation. The recent grade for brought us all kinds of goodies. Um our teachers felt very very appreciated. So, it was awesome. Um we have completed our state assessments. We had 100% compliance on that this year. Um, our NHS induction was last week and our FFA Baywick was also last week. Music appreciation, I'm sorry, music program um was LA was the first and then they took their trip to Worlds of Fun that weekend. Um, and then Mrs. Root had a program last weekend. So, she has got to be one checkered out lady. Um they've also done state music in there and state forensics. Um we had uh several students make it to um both of those those things. So proud of them on that. Students completed their community scholarship interviews for um their scholarships that will be awarded at graduation.
And what that means is you have a certified general ed teacher and special ed teacher standing at the front of the room assisting each other in instruction for the students. So while the gened teacher is talking with dollar words and you know presenting some information the special ed teacher may break it down into 50 cent 25 cent words color coding graphs pictures and they play off of each other so that all students in the room can learn and I did that for years and I it's an amazing teaching strategy and I can tell you a lot of the general ed kids benefited from me breaking it down because they also were like, "Wait, what?" So, it really is great for everybody. Okay. Um, our growth with students and IEPs in October 1st, 2024, we had 418. October 1st, 2025, 432. We are currently at 487 and we have more coming.
I'm here to ask that Dysart Unified School District provide these same protections, resources, and educational sessions to your students. I ask that you uphold the safety of all students and faculty by amending emergency response drills to include specific action towards ICE presence near campus, and update the school emergency response plan listed on your website to make this information publicly accessible for parents. I ask that you revise parent pick up and drop off procedures to explicitly ensure students are safely redirected away from any potentially dangerous and traumatizing arrests. These are just a few proactive preventative measures to address a growing problem that cannot be ignored. >> [snorts] >> You as members of the Dysart Unified School District Board can set the precedent for other districts in the valley, establish a strong community presence, and ensure that all students can focus their time on learning. Thank you.
Josh, Amanda, and Brian, I am so sincerely grateful for your compassion and reassurance while I needed time off for surgery. It meant the world to me and made a difficult situation much easier. I was very fortunate for your leadership because you truly cared about me. I also want to express my sincere gratitude for the recognition of my 23 years of service here at Big Hollow School District. I am sorry I was unable to attend, but want you to know it is truly an honor to be recognized by you, and I appreciate the acknowledgement of my commitment to our students and community. Reflecting on the past two decades, I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent my career in this district. I've witnessed immense growth and change, but the dedication to fostering a positive learning environment has remained constant. I'm proud to have been part of this school district for so long.
>> I guess I do a lot of burnouts [music] there and like I just have fun cars. >> Burnouts and fun cars. Have you gotten into any collisions? >> Uh like a minor one. [music] I was like drifting, hit a curb. >> Are you a menace on the streets? Should we watch out for you there as well or just at Cur McGee? >> I'm not a menace. It's just [music] like loud. >> Just a localized loud driver. Watch yourselves. If Jose's around, you might want to proceed with caution. He's a danger to Cur McGee. >> [music] >> All right, Wildcats, we're inside now. First hour has begun, but we found Fabian Espinoza, our late to class superlative winner. [music] What's the struggle in the morning? Why can't we get here on time? >> Well, I don't wake up on time and I forget to put on my alarm.
