Yeah, I mean I was going to ask the same question to Mr. Bringer about the prior training cuz I my understanding was there was prior training. I I guess my other concern is we're asking for us to determine things to put into policy, but I still I really have a true root cause analysis of what broke down at Southside and the other locations from the State Board of Accounts to understand what is the root cause here that we're trying to mitigate against. Because something broke. Um and I mean I don't mind hypothesizing and going over, you know, dual stewardship of, you know, checks and cash and, you know, dual signatures on signings, but like do we have a true understanding of what broke down before we go into what we should add? Logan, the um situation at Southside has not been uh made public at this point in time.
I'm a junior here at Deli and I'm happy juniors. >> I'm Clayton Duff. uh one of the seniors. So, as you can see, there's 10 of the 12 of us here tonight. So, pretty good turnout for this presentation. So, hopefully you enjoy it. >> I can do it. >> Okay. >> All right. Member selection and meeting structure. If a student is interested in joining the superintendent advisory council, an application will be out at the beginning of the very very beginning of the school year. All incoming sixth graders through current juniors are eligible to apply. Applications are reviewed and selected and selected students are invited to participate. Two powerful students from each grade will be chosen. Meetings are held regularly to discuss student concerns, ideas, and potential improvements. Members members are expected to actively participate, collaborate, and represent their peers voices. Dr. Moore's purpose. Ensure that every student's voice is heard and represented across Deli Community School Corporation.
Any questions or comments? All right, I need a motion to approve. I'll make a motion to approve. We have a motion. Do we have a second? I'll second. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed? I'll turn the meeting over to the Dr. Guy. Thank you, Mr. President. We don't have any old business this evening, so we're going to go right into the new business. First up on the agenda this evening is um a contract that has been negotiated with the International Brotherhood of United Mine Workers of America for the custodians beginning July 1st of 2026 and going through June 30th of 2030. Um I want to thank Mr. Spindler. He joined me in the negotiations and um we we were able to wrap it up pretty well within about 3 hours, I think. Um and it's a good contract for us as well as the association.
Malone, Mr. Boxel speak, and Mrs. Brimberry's home ill tonight, but she had tears in her eyes when I left because she knew what tonight means to so many of our students. and the investment. And so, um, I'm proud of you. Um, I love the program and I will tell you this exemplifies pockets of excellence in Huntington schools. And I say that because a progressive high school must meet the students where they're at. And your different scenarios are great example of this is what life kind of dealt you and how can we help you be successful and believe in you. And it's not always easy. And what you guys have accomplished is not easy to do. Um it is not um without hard work and it's not without commitment. And I appreciate greatly you coming here tonight. I know our board loves tonight and I want to congratulate both of you and I may do everything in my power to pop in there tomorrow to give you the the true congratulation uh high five, hug, whatever it is.
Uh but that is a push nationally and we want to be ahead of that. Um, also as we order textbooks and move forward, we're trying to get more more paper involved and that's that is the trend and there's research going both ways that the research is trending that uh uh paper tends to be the better way of of learning possibly and uh but we'll keep you updated as we move forward on that. Uh projects this summer are uh are underway. We got a meeting on Wednesday, I believe, uh, with Martin Co to discuss several upcoming projects that we have and looking at the timeline timelines and moving forward. We'll start to see some items being moved to Deontach for the roof project as well as the water project for the intermediate school and middle school. Those will be delivered very shortly. Those are all the items that we have for a regular work session.
So it's really um it's a really big deal for them. This is our PECAP staff. Um myself as the principal, Mr. Middleton and Mrs. Scott are our lead learners for the PECAP program. Mrs. Scott is the one in the classroom with the kids all the time, but um Mr. Middleton and Mrs. Scott are the ones who work together to create the project-based learning. Um students through the project-based learning are getting their social studies credit and their English 9 credit. Their other classes are on edmentum like um our other students at the academy. And of course, I couldn't uh do this without the support of Dr. Deal. She and I have been together through this journey since the beginning. Um and she's a great support for us. So um just to clarify uh we focus on relationship learning, integrated hands-on curriculum, career pathways, post-secary pathways, high school and industry collaboration that is PCAP at the academy.
And because when I first moved to town, it was such a joy to go to town meeting. You could get up and talk as long as you needed to and nobody ever abused it. And there were always people in line and they were happy and laughing. And then that changed. I think it was 2017. I'm not sure the exact date, but they decided that we could only speak for 60 seconds. That was version one. >> Well, by the time you got up and you said your name and your town, you could barely see anything before you were cut off by this timer that seemed to get bigger and then it became giant. And then I think the next town meeting they made it u 90 seconds. But honestly, you cannot say anything substant of in 90 seconds. It's It's really hard.
They list all the salaries. And we we have no idea what our salaries are. >> Well, be clear I think what you're talking about is the salaries by employee name and not a bucket and not like this is how much we spend on salaries in this department. It was per person which you know people can get upset about but that is that is typical in public employment that your your salary is exposed and I think that's okay cuz that gives people an idea. Um so I do want to correct one point because we don't know. I also looked on the town website. So we know for sure it's not in the town website. The annual report. We haven't been sent one to our house so we don't have that. Could it exist and just not be publicized and given to the public? We don't know.
Well, I think that can be true and it could be true because information is evolving. But again to go back to the theme of communication that could be stated in such and such a year we said this now things have changed and this and you can explain that and if you have data and information and it's a logical argument. So it it may not be changing changing there may be changing data to have that but if we're never given the backup it it is confusing right but one thing I think um and maybe maybe this isn't the worst place to talk about it that is I I think we shouldn't forget the power imbalance of town government with communication and residents and yes there there in just inherently is right we our community members tax dollars pay for let's say a communications person at town hall but I don't believe the public's ever been asked about use of that role I don't think the public has ever been specifically said how would how would we work like if we wanted a community forum public could we work with that person right maybe we can maybe we can't but those are sort of that that power imbalance I think we should not forget when we're talking about communication >> I really like um power imbalance balance cuz I do feel like it it's a problem.
Because Ashland was a solidly working-class community and then a lot of new people brought our wealth dramatically up. We found out recently that were actually lower, right? >> Getting poorer. >> Yeah. And and so those are factors that how do you compare that with another town? Right. We we have a certain budget to work with and I feel like that should be the number one priority is figure out how to work with that budget. >> Yeah. I mean, we've been, I want to call it, upscaling the salaries to towns around us, giving some rather large raises on top of you'll get like a 3.5 and then 16,000 or 8,000 or 5,000 or whatever it is. And again, I I don't know why these decisions are being made if we're being told we need to tighten our belts. That seems like the absolute opposite. >> Well, and I think that If you're ready to move on, roll into the topic uh reintroducing the idea of public service.
Top of the second. Top of the second. Thanks, George. You did that on purpose just so you could give me something to say. I appreciate that. I don't know what George so far. I think you've been the most productive partner I've had even though I got to give a shout out to those other guys. Uh It's all It was a pleasure working with Win McMurry. The action action's ultimate cheerleader. And and of course I I got to work with Josh Abrams because I was hoping for a son, but I got Josh instead. So. >> [laughter] >> I think you can't go wrong with either one of them. They're They're both veterans of uh Wacker Broadcasting. I like to like to tease him that day that I was I was hoping for Chase, but I got Josh. Yeah, shout out to Chase Williams. Should be doing with the Palm League this summer.
Um the only two that we had two that did not um meet the distinguished but we didn't also we didn't have the athletes there. We didn't have any athletes there. So, the areas that our kids were participating in, 26 of those 28 received a distinguished uh certificate from from Quesa there. And I have all those listed in their their uh GPA. Um out of everybody that participated, we had 257 kids participate. Some of those are duplicate because some do wrestling, some do basketball, uh for a GPA of a 377, which is outstanding. Um and so that's that's awesome. Uh tomorrow we're offering physicals again. Uh we have 50 slots. As of when I left today, we had 48 of them signed up. So people are taking advantage of our our physicals on that day. And then this past Saturday, um Special Olympic Track went to Lawrence.
I had eighth graders take them around and they thought they were pretty special. It was cool. Um, we're working on our cell phone policy and handbook changes for next year. I should have those to you next um board meeting to kind of look over the changes uh that I'll propose for our handbook for next year. our activities and athletics report. We have lots of spring sports kind of wrapping up in the next couple weeks. Uh we've had so much success this spring. I'm really proud of the kids. Um everybody's kind of still in their region or um league region kind of area except for tennis. They will compete at state tennis this weekend. We had five boys make it to the state tournament. So that's exciting. Um NHS hosted the community cleanup last week. We had it scheduled for Wednesday. Had to move it to Thursday because of the rain.
And so some of our kids are going to be going over there to them. And then also for the Tri City area, other kids who have autism will be going over there as well. And then co-eing, which I've already explained, that's something I feel like is really going to help us. And then ASDB, we're also partnering with ASDB. We are going to be um a centralized hub. We have the most students with interpreter uh in needs for interpreting for um our deaf students in our district. We have more than anyone in the tri-y area. So, we are going to have them housed here and if any students need interpreting from this area, we're going to be doing memorandums of understanding with those districts to have those students come here. if they're just getting some vision services or something or they don't need a full-time interpreter at this time, they can still stay in their districts.
Prisons are not supposed to be within 100 ft from schools according to Arizona state law. Why aren't you concerned about children in Dysart High School and Dysart Middle School being less than 1/2 of mile from the proposed ICE facility. Also, this past weekend, I was in Washington, D.C., which has an increased ICE presence. Random checkpoints to screen people for immigration status is terrifying people there as families and communities are torn apart in an instant there due to these random checkpoints. Do you have Do you have a plan to keep children, parents, guardians, or community members of this school district safe from such random car checkpoints? Do you have a plan if you, the children, parents, guardians, or community members of this school district will be caught in the crossfire of violent ICE officers killing or assaulting people in the streets or in your on your school premises?
Sincerely, Amy Howard. >> Awesome. Thank you very much. Next, I want to have Donna Crutch come up. Donna, do you want to say a few things? It does say on the uh agenda that Donna has been at Big Hollow 10 years, but officially 10 years, but she actually served here longer than that, being a part of Seedall. Uh uh she served here for more years than that. So, I can tell you I I've worked alongside Donna for a while, and I just really app having a social worker in our system that cares so much about kids is just such a real benefit. I'm gonna let Miss Mullen share a few things. Oh, this is a hard one for me. Donna has been my right-hand woman since I started here at Big Hollow Primary School. So, I'm gonna highly have to read this. When I joined the primary team four years ago, I quickly saw the incredible impact that Donna had on our school community.
