Faith, can you come up, please? Let you stand on the X. Okay. Faith demonstrates what it means to be hardworking and respectful. She always has a positive attitude and treats classmates and staff with kindness and consideration. She also works very hard at her job outside of school. You can see her often in the community, working hard, always has a smile on her face. Um, and I appreciate that she'll always speak to you when she sees you. So, that's fun. Fun to run into her out in the community. Faith, dedication, responsibility, and respectful behavior are much appreciated. So, we enjoy you having you as a student and appreciate all you do. So congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Awesome job, Faith. Thank you, Miss Penrod. And it looks like we're going to have a redo for uh our junior high. Come on up. We We just said some amazing words about you.
Um the trip is well worth every cent. The kids were amazing. Our chaperones were amazing. Um you can see pictures there. Um Miss um Miss Peters got to go with us also. Her granddaughter is an eighth grader. We were at the we were cleared to go into the FBI uh headquarters. So that was a really a neat experience for us to go into. You can see our chaperons and our team there on top. Um and really we already know that Mr. Nathan has great FBI skills. And um Miss Neos um also was there. We had our tour guide is there on the bottom and on the right. Miss Linda, she was amazing. She um really um used storytelling to capture the attention of our kids and how she was talking about um all the monuments and locations. She knew the ins and outs of how to get us and how to optimize our schedule.
All those in favor? I. I. Thank you. And then, our next motion is I move the governing board adopt the revised number two total aggregate school district budget per ARS 15-905, and specifically 15-905E1 for fiscal year 2025-2026. May I have a second? Second. Hilda, does this have to be a roll call? No. >> I don't believe it does require >> Okay. It does. CAI requires it. Okay. All those in favor? I. I. Any nays?
Is it Dowell? Dowell. Congratulations. And then, Kinsley, is it Lawer? Ah, Kinsley Lawer. All All sixth graders? What was the favorite book you read in Battle of the Books? Say that again. >> Pictures of Hollis Woods? Oh, wow. Anybody read that book? >> [laughter] >> Some people are looking at me like, that's a book, huh? Well, let me tell you a little story, and then we'll bring up the next squad. Four teams had perfect scores of 70 after two phases of Battle of the Books. Ashton Ranch, Boulder Creek, Neely Elementary, and Quartz Hill. There There then had to be a series of tiebreakers. It took seven rounds of tiebreakers to get to first and second place, and Quartz Hill and Neely represented Gilbert in the regional Battle of Books on May 6th. For the GPS Battle of Books, Quartz Hill took first place. Is that correct?
I just, you know, I just watch her from afar. The very first time I saw her, she was coaching a game in the summer at Thornwood and it was Creek versus Thornwood. And this was I wasn't even in education, I don't think. And that was the first time I I saw them play. Of >> course, Thornwood won. Yeah, I think she was she was here over third what over 30 years and and >> uh she's still here volunteering for the kids and for the coaches and >> it is amazing and I I actually went out I was out of town so I was there yesterday for senior night at the softball field and the plaque is really nice. >> It's really nice. So um definitely deserve it. They presented her with a letterman jacket and the back was just filled with all these different badges.
This letter should be in the drive and it should be in the files available for everyone on the website. I'll skip to the conclusion. For the reasons stated above, we find that the committee did not violate the open meeting law as alleged. We now consider the complaint addressed by this determination to be resolved. So, that's out there for you guys, anybody else to read. Um Does anybody have anything to say about that? I'm just wondering how much that cost us. That's a great question, Lisa. I'm glad you brought it up. A lot of money. Um Our attorney was involved in reviewing it, looking up different case law, different precedent. I believe the bill is approaching $5,000 for that. Because it was the initial meeting with us, drafting a response. And then later having to follow up with the Attorney General. All that involved. So, yeah, $5,000 for this complaint.
Working all year, the teams then took the chance to qualify for the state competition in January. And these students as part of a fourperson team, one is missing tonight, placed first in the global issues problem solving competition. I'm gonna call Cindy back up because we're gonna call up our kids lit quiz team of Chloe Charles, Cindy Jen, Kyle Spec, Luca, Quinn McCarthy again coach, and Maddie Chz. The Kids Lit Quiz Team is a global annual literature competition for students aged 10 to 13. And this year's Canton team delivered an outstanding performance. For months, they committed themselves to the sport of reading. They prepared, they read, they studied, and they pushed themselves to learn more every single day. While they may not have made it to the final round, their performance was something to be proud of. Good. Hernandez Diaz is being celebrated for her uncle.
So, um, I wanted to talk a little bit about this concept of budget fluidity and how things, you know, eb and flow over time. The board recommended a budget in January. We're now in May. Um, you know, four months later trying to uh, you know, okay, where where we know we had that recommendation back in January. Where do things stand today? How should we allocate money for the 26 27 year with as best forward v vision as we can have? So um since the board of ed made their recommendation you guys in in uh late January we've had teacher retirements uh we anticipated and budgeted four we've had five. Um the cleaning contract was well beyond what we had budgeted. And uh if you recall, we had to renegotiate our cleaning contract because we went from, you know, our our buildings uh were closing three, adding two, increasing square footage.
It is uh I am now honored to present your Pine Creek High School student body president, Miss Cadence Carlson, to the podium. Kad Cadence, will you please join me? So again, this is an exciting time for us and we're hopefully a lot of people take advantage of this and continue reading throughout the summer as again to finish out our school year. It's been a great year and we want to make sure that we're focused in being in the arena with each other and supporting each other and having a collaborative environment and we appreciate all the work that parents do, staff do, and the community does to help our students be successful. And lastly, just like I do every month, take that opportunity if you want to reach out and have a discussion about anything, especially the summer reading challenge, please reach out and uh have those opportunities. And here's my contact information. If not, have a great day and have a great summer. And we'll join you again for our next Clearwater Clarity in August.
This is what we do every month. Thank you for being here. A big random. All right. And we have zero. I know killer whales have teeth to catch their prey. And when there are they swim up to the surface and jump out of the water. We're looking at the information right now, but we got to find out. >> You can see where they are. >> And they have like the different nations. >> So, this is And you know what to say. Be bold. BB USA. Do you know? Heat. Heat. Wow. Our students are here. >> They will cheer for you as if they have won because tonight when you think about winning, I think we've all kind of We're here. We ain't in school. We ain't doing nothing. >> All right. Apologies on cutting the video short. We'll go ahead and get tonight's meeting started.
That was exciting. But now we want you to make sure and hear them. >> Yeah. We we'll say it all again for mom and dad. Um gosh, word for word, I don't think I can do it, but I'll do my best. Um Bryson came to us from from Globe and was really struggling in some foundational skills and struggling in his grades mightily. I hope you don't imagine me telling that because the good news is he's a straight A student right now. Practically, he's got I think one B. He's doing really well. Um, and it's really important to recognize Bryson because he has made some decisions in his life and in his academic career that are send him on a trajectory that I think he's going to be shocked at all the amazing things he's going to do. And I think we should all be really proud of him.
We went into back alleys that we had never been into before behind the FDR center, the fourth theater. So just super amazing. So, we want to send her a be kind shirt, one of our be kind coins to thank her for doing amazing job. And you can see where she would sit the kids down and actually do storytelling and tell them information for the monument, which was classic. It was great. So, again, there's a few more pictures of our students, and I know that we're going to have one of our students share his personal experience with you as well. Um the eighth the end of our eighth grade field trip. Our students who did not attend went to the UVA planetarium did a a campus tour. They had a movie day and they were able to go to the free port line training center. So we wanted it to be an educational experience and a fun time for our students who did not go to DC as well.
Hearing none, motion passes. That brings us to agenda item five, which is our student outcomes focused governance work. In the fall of 2023, Creighton School District adopted a student outcomes focused governance framework to ensure a focus on improving student outcomes. This framework is grounded in six research-informed competencies. Vision and goals, values and guardrails, monitoring and accountability, communication and collaboration, unity and trust, and continuous improvement. Guided by these six competencies, the board created a set of goals and guardrails. The goals reflect the community's vision for the student success. And the guardrails reflect community values and set boundaries for leadership. When this framework and within this framework, one of the most critical components is our progress monitoring. Progress monitoring is a structured conversation between the board and superintendent where we ask, does student performance match our goals? Is there evidence of growth toward the goals? And is the strategy strong enough to produce that specific growth?
Give them a hand. >> [applause] >> And then slide on down this way a little bit right there. If I could have the students from Neely Traditional Academy, please come up. Give them a hand. >> [applause] >> Again, Quartz Hill and Neely both represented Gilbert in the regional Battle of Books, and Neely Traditional Academy came in second place in regionals, so give them a hand for that. >> [applause] >> And up here I have Now, help me with my pronunciation. Is it Kian? Kian, see. Kian Ding, is that correct? What grade? Sixth grade. Bridget Hodges, is that you? Sixth grade. And Anika Johnson, right there. And you're in sixth grade. Congratulations. So, how When you guys went to the regionals, was it a battle like it was here for the district level? Yeah? Was it easy? Let me ask Did you read the books? No, just kidding.
It was so sweet. It was really sweet and um I know she was proud for sure and it felt proud to be there representing the board as a board member there and then knowing that we help we were instrumental in the naming pieces of that like that felt really good. So it was an awesome night. >> Well I I I really appreciate you because it was a last minute deal. I had committed to it, but I got stuck in some construction traffic and I'm like, I got to go through this list. I called Bill. >> You did? >> Dad, he was out of town. I called Jamie >> and I was at work. >> And she was at work. I was, "Oh no, where's a helicopter for me here?" And I was getting to you, Elizabeth and Dr. Hall. But Janine and accepting the role, she said, "I don't know much about her." I said, "Just say something.
Um approaching. Just under. Just shy. I don't know what 5,000 can do in our budget, you know, I know we were cutting $500 to avoid an override, but Anybody else? All right. Thanks. Thank you. Uh next item on the list, Jess, you had a question about perhaps adding 0.2 FTE back for band at Boylston Elementary. You sent me an email about it, asked for it to go on the agenda. Yeah. Um so as many Boylston residents saw, there was an override question on the ballot that was not needed in in end. Um but it was 400,000 or so. Um, and so I just wanted to point out that there were many cuts made, some in Berlin, a lot in Boylston, to meet to not go over into an override. Um, and so I don't think a lot of parents are aware of what was cut and shaved off here and there.
