So, we're looking at one thing that you'll see is we save money if we do a three or four year renewal will save us about 20 to $25,000. So, then those are discussions we have. Are we going to renew? We're happy with renewal math. Our kids are doing well. So, do we bite the bullet now to save less money in the next three to four years? So, that's coming up because we haven't had the real path expense like we're going to have this next year. So, it's like I say, it's a shell game and we're constantly just juggling paying for. So, with that reveal, Matt, just to give you an idea, the four-year renewal for that is $66,000. >> A one-year renewal is $27,000. >> And we have to pay the whole 66 up front. >> 66 up front. >> That's not >> which is what we did before.
So, when you look at our learning walk data from the end of the year, are we Are Are we where we need to be? Absolutely not. Are we light-years away from where we were 18 months ago? Absolutely. And so, I know we talk a lot about this is the end of year three. We didn't even establish goals till the end of year one. And I'm not saying that as an excuse, but a lot of the things that have been implemented were either implemented as new inputs last year or they're being implemented as new inputs this year based on what we've seen from last year. And so, um it's really important I just want to make sure we're giving our teachers appropriate credit because they're working hard to implement these changes. We're seeing that hard work in the classrooms, and and it's just not going to happen overnight.
There's a field trip to Six Flags on Friday, which I'm going on and I'm very excited for. And we've got our senior trip, senior dinner. Spring sports are, you know, in all the chaos. You know, all the sports teams are away right now. Yeah. And so it's a very busy time of the year. I think everyone's a little bit anxious for the end of the year for spring and summer to come. But it's all going pretty good so far, so. Enjoy. Enjoy every moment of it, okay? Thank you. If you wouldn't mind, I I would like to to say a word about Matt. Lisa, come on up. Um this is um this is kind of off the cuff a little bit, um but I um I've known Matt. Um he was a freshman in my biology class and now I see him um sitting here on his on the you know the edge of graduation and I cannot believe how much you've grown and you have grown into a tremendous um young man who I'm very, very proud of and he never ceases to amaze me.
In alignment with our new strategic plan, we've worked hard to ensure uh professional development for our administrators and really looking at uh the professional development that we could do with one another and challenge one another. I'm really fortunate that we have a very stable team here at the in Canada and that our administrative team I knock on wood is a stable team and that we'll continue to do great work together on behalf of the children and the families of Canton. And finally the as you know I chair the capital prek through 12 safety and emergency management uh committee and I was actually asked to speak uh on safety and security with um for Crag the Capital Region board of all the capital region uh town managers and their um first selectment were at a meeting on school safety. So overall, I I could tell this board that this has been a very busy year, a very productive year, and um I I feel that my team and myself, we met or exceeded all the goals that that we set um for this year, but I also know that for the 2627 school year, we we have a lot of work to do on behalf of of children.
I'm sorry. >> I'm happy to talk more about that with you though, Matt. >> Jeff, I think just kind of going back um so the 11,000 was increased to 13,000. Do you have kind of um full total impact? And and I'm I'm only saying this just um to kind of see to Matt's point, maybe this is a conversation for next cycle, a possible consideration to bringing up so we can tease out some of the criterias and constraints that have been brought up already. Um I'm a proponent of any, you know, language learning, but there are some scheduling issues and so forth. But my question, the first question I have is, is it about 750,000? That's the uh differential from the increase in right in this ECS formula. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. But the um like I said the that money doesn't impact us that money um like all ECS money gets sent to the town, >> right?
Come on. You know clever way. I feel Baby, baby. rehearsal. I'm going to die. Wait, [music] what? Where am I? Hold [music] on. I'll tell you in a second. Oh my god. Sorry about Maybe is it possible? Hey, I need you. Call my name. >> Good luck. I'll be down. I'll be there. >> I'll be there. Rain Maybe [music] I'll be there. I'll be >> right [music] >> from stage readable. Correct. You got it. >> You got it. [music] towards you. >> Love Love. there. >> Got it. Okay. >> Got it. I'm in love. I'm in love. right there >> a little bit. >> All right. >> You want to keep Don't forget why the cherry
Um, opportunities like that continue to be the highlight and really important in building relationships that really encourage and uplift not only our support of our our community, but also that that much needed relationship we need to have with our state representatives and state legislature legislators um because they do impact the some of the things that we do here. also continuing to support our students in as they prepare for college, their careers and military service and of course their future goals. Um so I was really glad that she was able to do so. I wasn't able to be there but I was expressly um grateful that everyone was able to come together and really um help to make her visit successful. Um, I just want to continue to say that it remains an honor to serve our students and families and staff um, and communities through my role in the governing board and I continue to take this responsibility as seriously and and remain thoughtful my consideration regarding continued service in the future.
>> Sure. >> You know, during the summer before the we've got a whole summer >> if we could have weekly weekly tours so that we could get a lot of people. Maybe we get the fire department in here to look and uh >> I was thinking, you know, that we should add a couple before school was one before school's out. when the word gets around that um some people have seen it and they start talking, maybe we'll get more to show up. >> Is there anything illegal about videotaping your walkth through and posting that for people that maybe don't want or physically come? >> No, >> I'm sorry. I think we got mine off >> a lot of microphones going here. Um, no. And I think just this time it was on a short timeline, but the one thing we need to do is make sure we schedule tours when students are not in the background so that it's the facility.
>> That keeps us from paying 27 every year. basically buy. >> Thank you, Greg. Anybody else? >> You're welcome. >> Well, like we said, we'll continue to review this because I really think it's important that we understand the auditor general report versus the annual audit findings, right? so that everyone understands the implications of both. >> Okay. So I move to approve the auditor general. >> That's just a discussion. >> And I were a little bit >> Did you sit together? on the plane. >> No, we did it. >> Okay, so that takes us to our uh events coming up. Um talent shows tomorrow. Then we have the honors assembly, the preschool promotion. You're doing it in here this year. >> We are. >> Okay. >> That's >> precious. They all are. Um then kindergarten and eighth grade. And then uh 20th is the Walen Groves.
So, I don't disagree with anything that was said because I agree with President Corrieo. Like, the kids don't have time to wait for us to get good at this. We need to move as fast as humanly possible. And by and large, I am seeing people work very hard to get better very fast. But, we also need to be assessing, and it's part of why this process is so important. We need to be looking at like where are we still seeing seeing stall points and gaps, and then dig back into there. So, how do we give more supports? And that's part of why this year we added the four literacy coaches and separated the literacy coaches from the language acquisition coaches because last year all four of our coaches struggled to do both in in every classroom. Thank you so much. That's also what I wanted to share with when we talk about like the three years.
He's insightful, he's kind, he's bright. Um he's thoughtful and he's dedicated and he's he's worked hard to help all the people around him. And um he's really gives me hope. Um and we see so much in our news and all around us. And I think as educators and I'm feeling like I'm going to get a little bit teary, um that I I as educators we are the last to see um the true gifts um that our young people are um and the hope that they really do give us. So, I really wanted to make sure that that was a public statement for you. >> [applause] >> I'm going to meet you. Thank you. Uh Al, you have some more things to go through. Yes. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> The next thing we're going to Just speaking. Um so, the next thing I just want to take a moment to recognize Mr.
I I thank my team. I thank all the teachers. I thank the community. And I especially thank this board for a grade 25 uh 26 school year. It it it it's an honor, as I always say, to be your superintendent of schools, and I'll take any questions.
uh the town the the state has said to us they don't even have a mechanism to pay uh the boards of ed they only in their system can only pay the treasurer for the town right >> which obviously is across the other side of the street. >> Yeah. I think if we could just set this aside for when you are curating you know budget uh ass next year. Just a thought. >> Sure. Um, >> am I up? Am I up for my question? >> Tim is is on the I don't know if you guys can see that, but when you raise your hand, it puts a little number next to you, >> Tim. >> Yeah, thank you. Um, I like the I like the idea of uh adding Spanish to lower grades, but my my thinking having learned to speak a few different languages relatively well.
Um, it is it is quite the task and I just want to continue to impress my fellow board members, those of you who may not and are here. I know it is a lot. Um, I know that we're also trying to push out u recruitment for the board. Um, I I do really strongly believe that the work of the governing board is a team effort. Um, during times when the district needs support, visibility, advocacy, uh, additional assistance. It's important that board members remain engaged and present in supporting our schools and should not rest on just one individual. that strong participation and shared commitment uh helps strengthen uh this trust and communication and overall service to the district. So I do remain thankful for the opportunity to serve for the and for the continued work being done throughout Bobc Unified School District. Uh again board members we are um majority of us I think except for one here you go Ben um should be considering running again if if that's in your heart to do so.
And I think if we have enough time to plan that, is that something with our technology department we'd be able to pull off with enough planning? >> Yeah. >> And and in the summer, in the summer, we could take a bus up to Pinetop Lakes and have it break down on the way back and then people be like, "Hey, we need buses. Go for it. >> I have a question concerning Sorry. I have a question concerning technology. If we take that completely out of the bond, are we going to have monies to be able to continue to support technology for 5 to 10 years? >> Yeah. So, that's a great question because >> um last year um before I officially technically started, even though I was kind of, you know, helping out with a lot of things, uh Nathan actually made a proposal last year about replacing the staff computers.
No, that's SHs. >> Walden is on the 21st. But >> so we have Nana graduating from SHS. >> No, Walden. >> Oh, Maya's at Walden. >> Yeah. >> She didn't want to go with her brother and sister. >> Oh, I this whole time I thought she was at >> Okay, she's at Walden. Okay. Who do we have graduating from SHS? Any stock kids? >> Yeah, we have Miss um Hetta. Her daughter is at Wen. Miss Greer's daughter is at Wen. >> We have I wanted to send an email to staff because we have a lot of staff members who have college graduates, university graduates. Um, so >> Tessa's graduating. >> Oh my gosh. >> So, oh my gosh. So, we'll have I'll send that out once we get it just so you know. But a lot of things to celebrate on our staff or their own students.
This is the first year that we have coaches specifically for literacy. And that initial year, we still had coaches on campuses. And so, there was a big shift last year where we created those content coaches, and the the literacy and language coaches were working with literacy and language across K-8. And now, we have only we have a set of literacy coaches that only are are primarily working with K-3. And at one point, I remember being up here last year talking about I don't remember it was goal three or goal four, but when it We have two different coordinators now, too, for each goal. Um, but we we were talking about the fact that when we sat down and we it would have been goal four cuz we were talking about our K-3 support from our coaches, and it was it was very small because we were spread so thin, and we I don't remember the exact number, but it was a pretty low number that kind of shocked us.
Campbell. Right. Um so, we've had quite the the reign of celebrations with with Mr. Campbell over um the the last couple weeks. We recognized him and got some citations um from representatives and senators at town meeting on his retirement. Um we also have an event for our administrators as well to to recognize John as retired, but I also thought it was fitting for us as a school community to recognize John. Um so, a little bit about John. As we know, he joined in 2013, became the principal of Groton-Dunstable um you know, incredible opportunity in the things that he's done in that school. Um you know, if someone was to say that to John, what's the the one thing they know about him and recognize and probably what he says is his favorite time is that morning where you see him out in the morning welcoming the kids as they come into school as well, too.
Any questions for the superintendent on the overall? So, I I just make this comment that um I think this is your fifth year with us, correct? >> No. Well, 20 something. Well, the fact of the matter is uh since since you've been here, I think um and I know there's some new people to the board here, but uh the trajectory of our of our uh district has been moving in a forward direction and um for those of you that were here five years ago, um it seemed like we were dealing with many different problems from um academic issues to critical issues and so on and so forth. So I just want to thank the superintendent uh for his work here and getting us on a path where the trajectory is in the right in the right areas. The achievement area is going great uh as we look at the different um components of our strategic plan.
I I'm a big believer in immersion and not that we're going to find immersion anywhere, but here in Cheshire beyond English, I think um if it were if it were up to me and I I'm poor, I I would I would change it and if we didn't have the funding, additional funding, I'd rather offer one or two languages from kindergarten through 12 rather than four or five different languages or whatever we whatever we offer at the high school. I truly believe that that would be more valuable to people learning a foreign language. Um, I'm not saying that anybody would agree with me on that, but that is how my that that is my general thinking on it. I think that would be um I think that would be most beneficial to uh students trying to learn a language and and if we have a discussion next year, I'm open to that.
