So, we don't have a good solid policy on um device use, and I think that could have really played better into that decision that we made um at that last meeting. So, um again, it's it's you know, I want to make sure that we are operating, uh conducting our duties in a manner that inspires broad community support of and ownership of board policy. So, I think ultimately in my duty where that come lies is is in that part and how we can move forward and make sure that that we're adhering to that. So, um I'll I'll leave it at that. Thank you, Ms. Marquez. Um some good news from today. Um McKin, was it the one the championship? No. Who won the championship? I mean, sorry. Not the championship. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, tonight TCA won 72 against McKin and they're going to be going at Camelback to the championship at 4:30 on Thursday.
Yeah. We just need to be careful, but that was due to the people that were at executive session when they could make it. Yeah. Okay. Any others? I just want to make sure that nobody was asked on the time. I found out Yeah. I mean, you know, there's like a quorum thing, too. Let me Let me be clear. We We didn't go We didn't [laughter] We weren't given the time, either. We That was just a time that was given to us. We didn't We didn't negotiate any time. Since we're all here, can we throw out some possible dates that do work for people so instead of doing like a Uh for the whole year or summer? >> July and August. July? So, July 14th would be the second Tuesday. That's typically the day we would do it. Jen, you know what? I think you have his calendar pages.
I don't know if you guys agree at least on some feedback on what we're discussing. Maybe there is a way to to find the middle ground or maybe this technology portion of it when it comes to student devices or devices in classrooms is a larger conversation we have where we start to phase it out or some way find a different way or model. Um, again, we we did it in response to to to a situation that happened, which we really really appreciate it. And now it's becoming a little bit more of a burden than a benefit. Um, so I don't want to be the person to say that, but it but it is and can be a strain on overall resources that we may have. Like you mentioned, Mr. ideas that amount could be used to give teachers a raise or or could be used in other means to actually directly impact some of the some of the things we're doing uh as and we want to be able to see as a school district.
But yes, it will be available for members of our community just like it'll be available for um you know people in the greater Arizona area and anybody who has their licenses to do that and wants to submit a bid is more than welcome to. >> Can we have the general subcontract to locals as part of the bid acceptance? Yeah, I mean I think how we write our RFP that we you know if they can a general contractor can you know try to utilize is that something we can write in in the RFP? I think that's something we can >> I will need to look into making sure I know all the right answers for for that. I don't want to I don't feel like I can answer that with as much knowledge as you know with as needed right now. So, I would need to look into specifically what those procurement laws would look like as far as who's bidding.
So, if you guys have an opportunity to go support our lovely softball players, that would be awesome. I know they love to see all the faces out there. Um so, yay for them. And then I think there was another outcome of who's going to be in the finals from a game today that I don't know information on. Um sorry for messing that up. But, yay TCA. Um also Thursday, yes, I I intended the end of the year's award and that's such a beautiful space because yes, we talk about hard stuff here at the board meeting and I I just want everybody to realize that I a lot of us board members only get one board meeting 4 hours in a whole month to figure out how our decisions will impact our superintendent, our cabinet, teachers, and so on and so forth to our kids. So, sometimes that's why these conversations need to happen because it only happens here.
So, there's a conference for superintendents that week in July that they I just got to see when that is for MASS. Mhm. >> Uh You said the 14th? July 14th. Did you say 20th? She said the 20th. We will not be available. Right will be available. You will not be available. Yeah. All right. About 20th. >> What about the uh the 21st? I'm not That's our admin retreat date. How about the 7th? 7th 27th? Of July? I mean it's right after July 4th, so that kind of sucks, but This is the drive. I don't know if it matters, but I would like to meet then. All right. How about it on Tuesday? You think the 28th is too far out? 28th of July? 28th of July, yeah. Uh yeah, I didn't even throw that out there just how about that date? I can do that.
So, pros and cons. Um but I am grateful especially um Mr. Bates to you and your entire team um for putting us in a very good position that not only is this information readily available, but you have the technology that tracks and can see and can really pull this information down when necessary. Um and again, this really does help to reinforce any communications we have outside of, you know, the the realm of this meeting to say, well, they are giving it a thought. They're not just handing out invoices. they they really do take time and and put effort behind um what it is we're doing not only as families but as as as a board. So appreciate it. Anything else? >> That it. >> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Bates. >> Thank you. >> I lost my Hang on. My diligent board closed. >> Mr. Diaz, what's next on the agenda?
>> Would be a good idea >> if we could >> stipulate some of that. So, all right. Have we beat this to death yet? >> Yeah, I I feel like some of my apprehension has been alleviated a bit.
We're guided by open meeting laws and there's so many red tape that we can do and this is the only space that we can have honest conversations to see what's going on with our students and how we can make it easier for them. Um [snorts] so, I appreciate it everybody that showed up. I would love to see more individuals our end of the years. I know that award ceremony. I know a lot of us put and our admin and volunteers put so much work into really recognize all the beautiful things that we have going on in the district with our staffs. So, that was awesome. And our study session it was great. We took an extra day on a Monday off of a board meeting to go into a few hours of really going honed in on our effective goal monitoring. So we do our homework at the end too.
What was it again? July 28th. I was found that day. Okay. How about the 15th Is that whole week of the 14th no good? Correct. That's correct. Mhm. All right, how about the uh 8th or 9th? Of July? Yeah. July. The 8th is my birthday. Yeah, okay. >> [laughter] >> The 9th? Yeah. So, that week Jen's not here that whole week. >> That whole week Jen's not here? How about the week of the 20th? How about the week of the 20th? >> What days I'm away that week. Okay. Do the 9th. Is this I'm sorry, is this going to be a virtual or is this an in-person? It should be an in-person if we want to meet the superintendent, right? >> need to meet the superintendent. Yeah. Okay, yeah. We have like 5 minutes. So, July 9th everyone's available, but Jen will not be here.
>> The the next one uh it's also >> intermediate. >> It's the followup according to my order. Um it is the uh you you have made a request. says the board has made a request uh on how schools are going to use the tax credit uh funding and this is Mrs. Mason's uh the other school they have already provided. Mrs. Mason is providing >> how she's going to be using uh her funding. >> Okay, thank you. >> Miss Mason, you're Let's give it up for Miss Mason. >> Thank you. Thank you for allowing me to >> There we go. So, um, this one, um, specifically is a tax, uh, credit funds for high school diplomas. Um, so for Indian Oasis Middle and High School respectfully requests that we use tax credit funds to purchase high school diplomas for graduating seniors for the 2025 2026 school year.
Any questions or anything? >> Michael's still going. That's his personality. >> You are a little more experienced than your three babies over here. >> well, you will get it fast >> this year. >> Well, I think I think this made a good point. I mean, if we if we say 50 million and 15%, well, then we're going to have to work hard to educate and and >> tell show people the problems and and get it done. >> Sure looks better than 120 million. >> It does. It could go. Yeah, that's >> 120 million. We just tear the building down and build a new one. And I and I hope we do, you know, save some of that M money because, you know, that we're going to get a little more upfront u because it's gonna it's going to go away quickly and then we're just in another bind in four years.
We get packets, we get homework, we have to read, we we have to answer questions. So that was spent on our Monday study session that was recorded. So if any of you guys have any questions on how we got here or the things that we're doing that can be watched live at our board meeting. So thank you for all of those that showed up and for cabinet members, I know that it's not liked when we add on extra meetings, but like I said, we only have a limited amount of time for us to make big decisions on how we're impacting our students. Um and with that concludes Just one last quick short thing. I forgot to say I want to especially all the principals that are here. I want to wish y'all amazing summer break and thank you for all your hard work. It definitely goes noticed and I love what you're doing with our kids and I love that you've taken on whatever thing that you take on and following with the SOF G and all that.
Is that true? Jackie, are you available? Is that what I should be available on the 9th, July 9th. Sorry, Jen. You'll be here the week before though to do the agenda, right? Which is July 4th weekend. Right. I'm not sure. Uh uh yes. So what So the other part is our admin is on vacat- There's a lot of admin on vacation that week. So if you're looking to have principals and directors that Are you looking just for a meet and greet with Brett? No, I think it just needs to be school committee and the superintendent. Okay. Okay. Not the admin team unless they want to. I mean, if you guys We're not having a meeting. Yeah, you guys can But I don't think we need presentations. I think it No. I mean >> This this is this is to simply start the conversation with the new superintendent who's starting that week, right?
And of course, these funds will help cover graduation expenses and ensure that all graduating students receive their official diplomas at the graduation ceremony recognizing their accomplishments. We thank you for your consideration and um the support for our students and our school program. >> Thank you, Miss Mun. Appreciate the the response. >> You're welcome. Dr. Flores. >> Welcome Dr. Flores. Everyone please Dr. Flores once again 21st CCLC site coordinator for Indian Oasis Intermediate School. I submitted my presentation. I hope you had the opportunity to review it. Tonight's presentation is in response to the governing board's requested follow-up items on the 21st century program. Um, specifically the following data showing how students benefited from tutoring and program participation in the 21st century post data evaluation result. I wanted to go directly to the student survey result summary in slide number 10 that says one of the biggest highlights from our student survey result is that majority of our students attended the program consistently with many reporting that they attended every day or most days.
>> Yeah. >> And I think in some states this this 50 million we're talking about is average. >> For us it's big, but in some school districts that's just an average amount. >> We're small. >> Yeah, we're small. So, are we ready to to bring this up? This has to be a uh uh specific vote uh individual an I or an A and uh the motion would be for 50 million and 15%. >> Is it two motions? Two separate motions or do we do it? >> It's two separate motions. Yeah. So, we'll do the bond first for >> We'll do the bond first for 50 million and that will have to be an a yay or a nay and then we'll do a motion for the override for 15% unless there's somebody have a suggestion we change that. >> What I have one more question for Jonathan.
We're in this together. Summer break. Thank you Ms. Marquez and with that I'll conclude the board updates and I'll turn it over to Mr. Man with for with his superintendent update. Thank you Madam President. I think really I just want to focus in on there's been a lot of recognition opportunities over the last couple of weeks. I don't know why they all clustered into the end of the year. It'd be nice if they were spread out a little bit more, but recently we had school lunch hero. I don't know if it's the week or the day. Either way, I do know that our school lunch teams are heroes and they work very very hard and so just wanted to give a shout out to them. In addition to that, we had recognition for principals. I think there was a principal's day and then very importantly last week was teacher appreciation week.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you're doing an admin retreat. Could we instead of a meeting do a retreat? No, he has an admin retreat. The new Well, I guess you'll be there cuz you'll be consulting. Yes, I guess that was a general question. >> Wasn't Like instead of like a meeting, I mean, in the past with the superintendent we've done a retreat for like lunch or dinner. Yeah, that's fine. I mean, we still got to find a date that works though. Yeah, but we can do that but it's not If you're not going to meet >> to think about it until June? We do have a June meeting. Yeah, and then maybe we'll get a better idea with um Let me talk to Let me talk to Dr. Conway uh next week and maybe he wants to coordinate with the chairman with school committee and do a retreat.
Students also reported positive experiences in areas such as feeling safe, enjoying enrichment activities, and feeling supported by staff. Students also shared that the program helped improve their reading, math, writing, confidence, teamwork, and social skills. And many students also express interest and enjoyment and enrichment opportunities such as our steam, our arts, our basketball, volleyball, chess, and other hands-on activities. Open-ended responses reflected that students appreciated the opportunity to learn new skills, make friends, and participate in engaging activities after school. I would like to move forward to the highlight of our parent survey results summary on slide number 16. We sent invitation to class dujo a newsletter. Unfortunately, we gathered limited result but this fear matters so much. Parent feedback was also very encouraging. Parents um reported satisfaction with the program overall and expressed that their children felt safe and supported with while participating. Parents shared that the program helped improve academic performance, confidence, and participation in activities, and provided positive opportunities after school.
So if we do the 15 and 50 and it does not come out favorably to us, what is going on on the back end on your guys's part right now to >> make it >> I mean where where do we stand like what is the plan moving forward if we do not get the community support you feel comfortable with the 50 and 15 it's what you're recommending. So, I know you're hopeful or >> you know, you're that way, but >> that you had to have processed what if it doesn't and what does that look like for us? >> Absolutely. And and I think and I'm sorry, I don't mean to repeat some of the things I've said before, but I think on the tour how we see the water in the electrical room, I think we're talking about taking money out of classrooms and vital resources to our school, cutting positions.
