She pays attention when her classmates speak, and responds to their ideas with respect, helping create a positive learning environment for everybody. In her writing, Charlotte works hard to organize her thoughts and takes pride in her assignments, always giving her best, she sets goals for herself and stays focused, and she'll until she reaches them. Keep up the great work, Charlotte. And let's give one more hand to all of our students of the month. Um, we're going to go ahead and take a short break. Those that want to get pictures can and then we'll move on to about five minutes. >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. N. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. [music] [music] Heat. >> [music] [music] >> Hey, [music] hey, hey. >> [music] [music] [music and bell] [music] >> Heat. Heat. >> [music] [music] >> We're going to go ahead and um continue So, we're at 7.5 governing board members.
That uh concludes the presentation. Happy to answer any questions you may have. >> Have a few, >> please. [laughter] >> Um I am the type of person just just rip the band-aid off. Just do it. Get it over with. I don't want to be here again year after year um adding more and more and keep you know it's frustrating, right? everything costs more right now. Um, how often are we going to end up needing to do this? Let's say we just rip the band-aid off and we're doing the the first option um and doing that 50 cent increase instead of stepping up with inflation with the rise of costs. When will we be back here again? >> It's a great question. If we if we go with the administrative recommendation, the hope is that it buys us at least a couple of years. Okay, we'll see how time goes.
MCS policy 3131 reduction in force riff and certifi certificated staff. MCS policy 5600 student discipline. MCS policy 5610 suspension and expulsion of students. MCS policy 5610.02 in school discipline. MCS policy 5630.01 01, use of seclusion and restraint with student activity. MCS policy 5771, search and seizure. MCS policy 5840, criminal organizations and criminal or organization. >> Yeah, gotcha. >> Sorry. >> MCS policy 7530, lending of corporationowned equipment. Dr. Brown. >> Yes, we are in the process of converting to CCHA. So therefore, we need to delete our current policies as we approve the new policies. No action is required at this meeting. >> 26-129 approval to purchase high school journalism lab computers. Dr. Brown, >> I recommend the board approve the purchase of new Apple iMac workstations for the journalism program. The current inventory originally purchased in 2017 has surpassed its functional life cycle. The resulting performance lag now significantly hinders classroom instruction and student productivity.
I love when you're swearing. >> [laughter] >> Um you're just an incredible person and your impact is going to be felt even with you not on this board. Your impact will be felt for a long time and I know that you will find your ways to continue to be involved um you know in terms of you know what Marcy said her daughter had the the privilege to travel with you. My son did as well. You were a chaperone for his trip when he went to Europe a couple of years ago and he had so much fun with you. He really enjoyed getting to know you as a person um and I felt very safe as a parent knowing that you were one of the adults that was there with him and you texted me extra pictures which was great. >> [laughter] >> But I'm very grateful for you and I appreciate everything that you've done for our district and for me.
So that being with all of that laid out, um, I'm making a motion to approve the consent agenda items A, B, C, and E as presented. >> So moved. >> Great. Motion second.
>> Uh any discussion? >> All right. See none. All in favor? >> Oh, question. >> Um would it be like um the other thing we're doing executive session where we'll come back and then have the public vote after it? So the discussion executive and then I'm looking at items 11 and 12 on our agenda. So yes, >> would it be pushed? >> Presumably. >> Okay. Just wanted that clear. Thank you. >> Yes. >> Okay. Thank you for that. Any other questions? Any other discussion? >> Okay. Um all in favor?
So, if you guys have anything that you would like to share, I know that Do you have anything that you would like to share, Diane? >> I'll just make it real quick that I had the opportunity to attend the CTE and the high school awards at the at CPAC uh the last I guess it was last Monday and Tuesday. very impressive, very encouraging um to see those students see how excited also their teachers and the principles and um to receive their awards and to give those kids a moment to shine. Um hard work ethic obviously and to see them get scholarships and awards. Um I'm just hoping next year when I go that the CPAC is full and there's not a seat open in the house because it was really amazing to see. So it's so important the CTE program, our sports, our um fine arts program um as well as the academic ability of our students.
Um our our prices are going to go up every single year. >> Um and you can either increase them annually by a small portion and then see how that works or we can kind of do what we do with a lot of our prices where we hold them stagnant for you know five years or more. I mean we haven't raised our student fees for a long time and feel a similar um pressure on on those things when we don't raise our our our prices more frequently because the the cost of of doing business goes up every year, >> right? >> So, a couple of years um is what the hope is. Be two or three and we'll we'll evaluate it as as the years go on. >> Okay. I'm really proud of us for making the co money last so long and what we've been able to do.
This is a $32,940 investment and it will be funded through the 2026 27 technology budget ensuring students have access to industry standard hardware essential for modern editorial production. So asking for approval of those slabs. >> Can I get a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve 26129. >> Can I get a second? >> Second.
I'm back at you. Thank you. >> [laughter] >> Who knows what's going to come out of his mouth. Exactly. Exactly. Lori Uh-huh. I've this is I'm finishing up my 10th year on the committee. So that sounds like a long time. It feels like a long time and then I think about it and there's 50% more of the you've put in right? So it's an additional 5 years. So that just sets in to me that the commitment you've had right? And we can talk about the accomplishments and things like that but it comes down to you right? I appreciate the partnership. We've We've been on the policy subcommittee meetings and like I'll bring my data, I'll bring my rationale, my logic, you lead with heart and passion. And then when that didn't work, you double down on that. >> [laughter] >> And And until I relented.
Uh any discussion? All right. All in favor? >> I. Any opposed? Any abstensions? Passes unanimously. Now, um a vote to move item D, the approval of the renewal of the contract for the director of people services into our executive session for later tonight. >> So moved. >> Great. Perfect. Uh Nan, I'm assuming you've got that.
>> Any opposed? Any abstensions? See none. unanously. Um all right. So now we are moved to our school committee reports. Um starting with the chair's report. So I had um updated you all couple of months ago that the city council community relations subcommittee had a topic on their agenda related to internships for our students. Um, so to that effect, they invited me to their meeting uh, April 27th, I believe it was, um, to hear more about what they were thinking. Um, and for me to provide sort of my like here's some of the considerations you actually need to be thinking about before you just have a proposal related. Um because there were lots of like they hadn't thought about the fact that they would be dealing with under 18 teens and that adds a whole layer of regulation and that they would maybe need to have mentoring plans and that they would have to have some pertinance to academic uh you know endeavor here that that it needs to it can't just be they get free labor.
So it was wonderful. >> Just really quick, the um excellent of awards for staff. I was able to attend that and that was phenomenal. Um we have so many talented and g giving people here. So it was really nice to see. Um, I was able to attend almost every single track and field meet both home and away. Um, for anybody that was here earlier, uh, during our study session, I'm a huge proponent of academics, athletics, fine arts, and CTE. Um, very proud of our boys that went to state. And I, and I can't remember if it was mentioned, but Branson, not only did he go to state, he got second at state, and he's now going to all state. Um, so that's really exciting. Um, I, uh, I was honored and privileged to be able to attend for the second year of a row in a row CTE awards, um, along with Miss Taylor, uh, as well as the senior awards, which she was at as well.
That is an accomplishment. So, I don't want to take away from that either. Um, Facebook has been loaded with stuff. So, I need to make a couple things very clear for parents out there and and all of the comments that are happening. Um, this is going to affect a very small percentage of our students. Correct. about 40% of our students do not qualify or have not applied for free and reduced um price launch. >> Okay. So, not very small but less than half. >> Right. But um if I may, I want to re That's why we checked into how many of the 40% actually are eating in the cafeteria. >> Yeah. Um, and it's you you saw those numbers in red and I think getting that scale is helpful very much. Um, and this does not affect in any way the free and reduced lunch program and what they pay or not pay, right?
>> Any discussion? >> Okay. Well, signify by saying I. >> I. Any opposed? 26129 passed. 26-130. Approval to declare tech equipment obsolete and of no further use to the corporation. Dr. Brown. >> Yeah. I recommend the board declare the following tech equipment obsolete and have no further use to the corporation. End of life hardware, decommissioned laptops, desktops, servers, and Prometheium boards. We have also nonfunctional components like broken monitors, damaged chargers, and non-working keyboards, mice, and printers, and technical scrap, miscellaneous non-usable parts, and cabling. So, asking for permission to uh to clear it obsolete. Can I get a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve 26130. >> Can I get a second? >> I'll second.
Uh You relented? Well, when was that? There might have been swearing involved. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, there might have There might have been some swearing involved, but uh but your leadership has been exemplary. We've not thought for a second to change that because you don't change something that's not broken, right? Um I appreciate you as a friend, as a leader, um and with that if I can take and just have the a portion of the passion and grace that you have in this role, then, you know, I think that's That's all I can take from this and try to try to emulate that. So, thank you for your service and your friendship. Thank you, Paul. I feel the same about you. Thank you. >> Mark, I'm going to pop in so you can have the last word. I want to make sure that you are the one that does that.
Uh any discussion? All right. Seeing none, all in favor? >> Oh, question. >> Yes. >> Um would it be like um the other thing we're doing executive session where we'll come back and then have the public vote after it? So, the discussion executive and then I'm looking at items 11 and 12 on our agenda. So, yes. >> Would it be pushed? >> Presumably. >> Okay. Just wanted that clear. Thank you. >> Thank you. Yes. Okay, thank you for that. Any other questions? Any other discussion? Okay. Um, all in favor? >> I.
It actually has to be meaningful for our students as well. So with that um I think that they're going to go back to the drawing board and see if this is something they're still interested in. I'm not sure that our students would have fit that what they actually need. Um what they need is a communications intern and I'm not sure that our students are it for them right now given the additional regulation that it would take for them to actually accomplish the task. That being said, the conversation is still on the table. I am in general a fan of internships with municipal government um to the extent that it is a a safe and supportive endeavor, you know, activity or endeavor for our kids. Um, but that's sort of where we stand on that. Um, it was a good good conversation. Um, and I'm glad I'm glad that I was there to help them think think it through a little bit.
and um having students of my own, my own children that attend Combmes High School um and serving the community on this governing board, I am I will sing your praises forever. The CTE program that we have is amazing. Um I am so proud of these kids. Um, I worked for over 10 years in broadcasting here locally in Arizona. And to see what they're doing at the school site, um, with the teachers that they have and the students, hands down, just so impressed by them. So impressed by them. Um, and and all the kids, everything from a science uh, to sports med. I have a student that's in the sports med program. I mean, just so many amazing things that we're doing. Um, and then the senior awards, how well-rounded the Combmes High School student is. And going back to my comment earlier, because of that keystone of strong academics and those pillars of athletics, I see some I think soccer.
Well, the reduced amount will still be the same amount. >> All of that will still be the same, right? >> Yeah. For right now, our and our reduced kids don't pay anything either. The state us the difference between the reduced rate. >> Oh, nice. >> Um, so our free and our reduced students both pay nothing. >> Nothing. >> And we'll continue to do so. >> Perfect. Um, and then lastly, just to reinforce, we're not going to let kids go hungry either. >> That is correct. Right. >> We never let kids go hungry. So if they can't afford this, but they also don't, you know, make they make just over the price it is to qualify for free and reduce because that's a federal program. That's not our program. Ultimately, nobody has to be scared that their child's going to go hungry. >> We never turn a child away.
