Um, so I so I promised them that I would bring it here and ask you all. So here we are. I'm bringing this up. Um, our options we can choose, you know, they can sort of talk tell us the month prior, hey, we want someone next month. Um, and we can choose an individual at that time or we can name a person and say you're the person, you're going to go every time. Uh that's sort of up to us how we would like to handle it. Does anyone have thoughts about that? Yes. Den, >> I think it would be wonderful if we could rotate this >> this labor um not because it's labor but because each person should have an opportunity to hear from these parents and to learn more about the special special education services in our district. And um I've been sort of really cognizant over the years of how sometimes one person or another will end up getting stuck with like all of the information and we are we don't do a great job of like disseminating it and keeping it um in one place for everyone to to learn from.
I'm not for them. They might shift. Right now, I know that I have been to them. They're held at community action. They do have child care for our CPAC families. I know that when you go into an IP meeting or a 504, um, you're also given information. I have a flyer that got mailed to me that hangs at home that has a QR code that you can scan, which I'm happy to share to log on to their meetings virtually. But they do have child care and great energy over at the family center. >> Member Johnson. >> So, I think our next step is finding out how frequently they want us and the anticipated dates they want us. And then I I'm definitely in agreement with Denive that we should rotate rather than appointing a single person. So my question is a little bit of an open meeting law question because I know we can schedule things over email.
If more than 10 individuals request to speak, [music] the board president reserves the right to limit individual speakers to two minutes and may set a time limit to the call to the public session speakers. So, we will be doing two minutes. Um, if we can't um if our little timer doesn't work, then um Miss Wanger will give you a heads up when your time is almost up and then we will um let you know when you're done. when your time is up. So bear with me because um some of these names are a little hard to read. Um so first we have Kendall Barab. Good evening board. Good evening audience. I am Kendall Barup and I am a 15year-old on the girls soccer team and I do not think it is right for you guys to cut out the girls soccer program. Me and the other girls here representing along with the whole team have been working very hard this season and there are a lot of incoming freshmen.
It costs money and there's no additional funding for that. We've seen a lot of shifts in just the economics of of how we employ staff, which is why we have we give aggressive raises because we're competing against um the public sector for everything from teachers to bus drivers and and everything in between. Um we've seen uh big shifts in the cost of technology. We used to be able to buy some technology equipment once and it was good for 5 to 10 years. Now it's really like a utility. We we have to pay annual licenses on every technology piece of equipment. That's an annual b burden on m um special education is a big cost. Our special education um is has a funding gap between the cost of goods and services and the funding formula and our population of of special education students grows every year.
>> Any discussion? >> Yeah, I would just like to say I I think it's important that we uh have a plan in place for continuity of this program. Um it's just been an outstanding program for for the students and and for our community. So, um I appreciate uh our leadership looking ahead and uh planning for the future. So, I'd like to see this thing continue to grow and grow as it has. I enthusiastically endorse it. >> Yeah. >> Anything else? Okay. We'll vote. Signify by saying I. >> I.
My granddaughter, Kathy. And all of you. And as you guys were talking, I've I had the privilege I mean, not only are these folks amazing at what they do and I feel like I'm leaving everybody in such good hands that I don't even have to worry about anything cuz Ashland is just so set with these people and Chantal coming on. But, I've had that They're amazing parents. I've as you're all talking, I've had the chance to spend time with all of your kids. And um it's it's just been a great honor. Um I love you all. I will cherish this time. I Thank you all. We have someone in the audience that >> Uh raised their hand Uh If it's okay with the chair. If it's okay with the chair. Sure. It's a little out of order, but Yeah. Luke, you have to ask them to mute here.
I mean, now we are now we got the handbook going. Like, it's great, but you know, so I I'd like to see everybody get a chance to go just like everyone should get a chance to go to Hyannas and everyone should get a chance to sit in with the um PTO's and like be the different liaison to the different things so that you can learn, you know, everybody gets a chance to learn as part of our professional development. And also my question is, is it virtual? The meeting is >> okay. >> I've attended before. >> Okay. I haven't attended yet, so I don't didn't know. Okay. >> Yes. >> Um, one thing I did bring up to Roland's attention, which he brought it up to messain is that they do meet on the third Wednesday of every month this year. Um hopefully with us trying not to have conflicts with city council maybe they might sh I'm not speaking for them they might shift right now I know that I have been to them they're held at community action they do have child care for our CPAC families I know that when you go into an IP meeting or a 504 um you're also given information I have a flyer that got mailed to me that hangs at home that has a QR code that you can scan, which I'm happy to share to log on to their um meetings virtually.
Would an email like this is the date. Do we have a volunteer for the date? I guess we'd have to do that in a meeting because that's not just scheduling. That's choosing a person. >> I'm just thinking in terms of the most efficient, fastest way to get it set up and going. >> Becky send a doodle poll, but it's more of the like would we vote to choose who is available based on doodle pool. I'm trying to think like what part of it >> I think that they have set meetings every month and from what from what I understood of the conversation that I had uh with Crystal Clever, they they would know when they want us and so we might even be able to get a list of the dates for the year in advance and then just kind of slot ourselves in as as we have availability um and even do it maybe a vote in one fell swoop.
Even if we didn't have much this year, there's no guarantee that we won't have more next year. And I believe that this team, as I said, have worked extremely hard. We've had practice every day for at least two hours. We've communicated with each other. And our amazing coach, Coach Decker, along with our assistant coach, Coach Hogland, they've shown us things I haven't seen before. And I think that the girls soccer program should continue and not be cut off because there are a lot of girls out there like those two three with the shirts on. They would really like to do something with soccer in the future. And I believe that girls combs high school soccer could guarantee them maybe a scholarship or at least more time to practice soccer to continue to get better. And I believe cutting it out of the high school would be not good in my opinion.
That divide kind of grows. So um adding another another um draw on M that's already you know very difficult to um to handle all of the things that we have to fund with M um I think would be would just be a big challenge. would also shift our our view in the the food service fund from being a healthy, vibrant fund that can train staff and um reach for gold standards on our meal offerings um to really be, you know, all about the dollar because the impact on on the the dollars that that could be going to instruction um are now diverted to to the food service program. So, those are some some thoughts on that. >> Thank you. I want to thank you for putting together a presentation that had data that was easy to understand. When when y'all first brought this to us, um it it was not this clear, right?
Any opposed? >> 26133 passed. 26-134. Approval of memorandum of understanding between MCS and first steps. Dr. Brown. recommend the board approve theou between MCS and first steps for early intervention and development services. This is an annual agreement. >> Can I get a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve 26134. >> Can I get a second? >> I'll second.
It looks Oh, I think Does he know that his hand is up? No, it's not up anymore. I think he's just watching. No, I I Oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh. You can only ask him to Luke, if you want to speak there you have There you go. Maybe he doesn't want to say anything. He might His his might have just been up accidentally. That happens to me, too, sometimes. Thank you all so much. I'm humbled. I'm honored. Um and I um am grateful for the opportunity. And I can't wait to see what happens next around here. Thank you. Yeah. Do we want it Does anybody have any reports that you want to give since I It's been all about me for a while now. Uh anything you want to share about what you've been up to? Abhishek, do you have any news? Okay. We're going to go downstairs.
But they do have pizza and salad and child care and great energy over at the family center. >> Member Child, >> so I think our next step is finding out how frequently they want us and the anticipated dates they want us. And then I I'm definitely in agreement with Denive that we should rotate rather than appointing a single person. So my question is a little bit of an open meeting law question because I know we can schedule things over email. Would it an email like this is the date? Do we have a volunteer for the date? Becky could send a doodle poll, but it's more of the like would we vote to choose who is available based on doodle poll?
Just you're going to go then, you're going to go then that kind of a thing. That is what I'm in favor of. >> And and if for whatever reason that doesn't end up working out, if that's not how it actually plays out, I think that I can specifically request that they give us when they want us at least like a month in advance so we can try to time it around our meeting schedule so that we can have a vote to designate go off, please go do um that kind of work. But I really appreciate folks willingness and interest. Um I think this is great. I was very excited by the possibility of sending folks I believe that they have their final meeting of the year next Wednesday 5 to 6:30 at community action. There will be pizza. There will be our incoming superintendent. Um and I think they also just launched a CPAC website that they made.
I'm sorry. >> You're fine. You're doing great. But I really think we should just keep it in because there are a lot of opportunities that could be for these girls and for our seniors. We have an upcoming senior right there with the blue shirt. I love you, Natalie. She has a lot of opportunities in the future and I know she can do a lot. So, I believe that we should keep the girls soccer program in and not cut it out. Okay. Is this Mary? Yeah. Okay. Do you want to come on up? Um, Dr. Wyman, members of the board, fellow members of the Com community, good evening. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak. My name is Mary Barup. My husband John wanted to be here, but he's home with their sons Braden and Braxton, who are also students in the Combmes community.
um seen a uh an actual benchmarking right and where we would potentially fall with um proposed um changes is huge. Um and kind of seeing a breakdown of the meals. Again, that's data. We're uh We like numbers up here. So, um, thank you for thank you for putting this together. I know you guys spent uh spent a lot of quality time together working this thing out. So, >> yeah. >> Um, >> Jason's been busy. >> I I appreciate that. >> Um, I've got a guy that I work with. his kids go to Combmes. And I was kind of picking his brain today as we were kind of um had had a little bit of time in in in the uh company vehicle today. And um they he told me only had one year of free lunches around or meals around uh co Um, yeah, it kind of kind of shocked me.
>> Any discussion? >> Okay, we'll vote. Signify by saying I. >> Any oppose? 26134 passed. Any Okay. Yeah, there we go. Got mixed up there. So, we'll start off with Savannah down there. >> Thank you. Um, to start off, I'd just like to say congratulations to all the students uh and staff that we've honored tonight and said hello to through the new faces and stuff. Um, starting off with uh stuff from M MJHS. The MJHS livestock team advanced to state. So, congrats to the to the students on those teams. Um, congratulations to everyone who participated um and helped with the production of Into the Woods Junior. It was a fantastic performance. Um, and then congratulations to all the statewide testing uh students that had worked hard for those. So like all of the ones like in the elementary schools, middle school, and even some high school just I know it's really hard to do that.
Okay. All right. Do we have a motion to adjourn? Second. All in favor? Aye. Thank you. Happy birthday to you. [applause] Oh my gosh. Thank you very much. I love it. So, join us downstairs. That is so beautiful. Yeah. We're going to carry you downstairs. >> [laughter]
I'm I'm trying to think like what part of it >> I think that they have set meetings every month and from what from what I understood of the conversation that I had uh with Crystal Clever, they they would know when they want us and so we might even be able to get a list of the dates for the year in advance and then just kind of slot ourselves in as as we have availability um and even do it maybe a vote in one fell swoop. Just you're going to go then, you're going to go then, that kind of a thing. That is what I'm in favor of. >> Great. And and if for whatever reason that doesn't end up working out, if that's not how it actually plays out, I think that I can specifically request that they give us when they want us at least like a month in advance so we can try to time it around our meeting schedule so that we can have a vote to designate go off, please go do um that kind of work.
So folks who should check that out. Um they do good work and I want to just really give a deep gratitude and appreciation for community action for volunteering their space and I believe they provide the So, and the child care, I mean, they're really they're really um expending a lot of resources to support some of our folks. Um it's that kind of partnership that that makes makes this community what it is. Um and we're deep deeply grateful to them for their service and for their uh for their resources. Okay. Um this next item um I want to acknowledge that there was a human rights commission discussion I believe either late April or early earlier this month um where there was there was a significant portion of their agenda dedicated to talking about the schools and racism that's been experienced by many students for many years in our schools.
