>> I know. And I love that there's all these young people that can see two people to look up to because there's some pretty high bar that these two uh students are going to set for us. Um it's my distinct pleasure to introduce the first recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendent Superintendent Certification of Excellence, Briana Weight. Briana represented the very top of her class, currently ranked number two with a near-perfect 4.27 unweighted GPA. Her academic record is a masterclass in rigor, having earned the AP Capstone diploma and the AP Scholar with distinction award while consistently choosing the most demanding course load at Dartmouth High. What truly makes Briana the one Dartmouth student, however, is how she balances her academic excellence with a deep commitment to service and school spirit. She serves as the vice president of the National Honor Society and is an active member of the student council.
Uh the mayor's budget, which was in the budget booklet and proposed everything, was 24,147,803. She did add, and I say she, the mayor, $450,000 towards, I guess you'd say, our budget in that sense. Towards that um delta, right? The difference of the 1.7, which was level services carried over to this year. That left, right, a remainder of about and these are aboutish but we will fine-tune this for you. Um 1.25 million. You, uh the school committee, have voted to already use 500,000 from the preschool. Am I trying to Is that the title? Not pre-K, preschool. Right, pre-K revolving. Uh pre-K revolving. So, preschool pre-K revolving. We've also looked at our numbers in our vacancy savings and are suggesting we take $600,000 out of that and then an additional 125-ish out of transportation. That would leave us with zero additional dollars needed to be asked for by us to either ourselves and or the city.
Did you say you texted her? Yeah. Okay. We've been texting back and forth. >> Okay. Trying to get her connected into the meeting. Thank you. I thought you were telling me something important. Well, that's important. You're right. So, like 10:04. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Hold on. Oh, yeah. You got it. Yeah. So, she's going to be back and she gave me about six different dates because that team wants to go over and see, so she's going Yeah. But, I think it's a good opportunity for us, you know. Yeah. Yeah, the teachers loved it. Sounds good. And with them, Tumwater and CTE are in national insurance and the concert series. So, I just did So, different people who are in All right, there we go. I appreciate it. So. Hi Sam. I'm coming from my phone cuz apparently my computer doesn't want to sign in. Yeah, I'm sorry.
Before these experiences, business was just an interest to me, but through these classes and organizations, it became something that I really want to pursue in the future. I learned how to think more critically, gained confidence in my voice, and saw how much of a meaningful impact business has in the world. And because of that, I'm now planning on pursuing a double major in finance and global health management, and I do truly believe that Cheshire High School's business department helped me shape my path and prepare me for the future. All right. I'd also like to share with you, this is our business department team, and I'll just start over here from left to right. Um we have Mark Pease, myself, Brett Dagle, Lynn Tallion, Michael Kelly, and Drew Picknarcik. Uh Mike and Lynn were going to They couldn't make it to this meeting. They were going to be here um on the 11th.
The boys track team finished the league as league champions. And out of our 13 different activities recognized at the KSHSAA level, all 13 activities activities were recognized as distinguished. In order to be distinguished, they must have a collective GPA between a 3.25 and a 4.0. If If those students If your student was in an activity, the collective GPA was a 3.74. Uh so, as you move on to the high school, you're going to have more opportunities in clubs to participate in. I would encourage you to do those. Finally, from the state testing that just came in, this class outperformed the state 17% in science, 8% in language arts, and 17% in math, which is excellent. >> [applause] >> As we start this evening, we will first recognize individual students receiving the following awards: the Presidential Award of Educational Achievement, the Presidential Award of Educational Excellence, the Kansas State High School Activities Association Citizenship Award, and the American Legion Award.
Our GHS May Student of the Month, Miss Belen Acevedo. >> [applause] >> Good evening everyone. I just wanted to say thank you so much for this award. I've I'm really honored to be chosen as student of the month. Thank you to my family and faculty and staff at GHS and the Board of Education for this recognition. And especially Miss Cristani for always believing in me from the beginning and all her support and encouragement throughout all four years. I'm very grateful for this recognition. Again, thank you again to everyone. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Again, just incredible stuff happening here with all of our students and this the seniors um and the high school spotlight just really kind of, you know, put it all in perspective. Um So, the the student government board who's been doing an incredible job this year, they're they're going to have a final presentation for June for us, kind of wrapping the whole year together.
It's something unpredictable [music] but in the [singing] end is right. I hope you had the time of your life. [music] So take the photographs and still friends [music] in your mind hanging on a shelf in good health and good time. [music] Tattoos and memories and dead skin on [singing] trial. For [music] what it's worth, it was worth all the while. It's something unpredictable, but in the end [music] is right. I hope you had [singing] the time of your life. [music] It's something unpredictable, [music] but in the end that's right. I help you at the [music] time of your life. [singing] It's something unpredictable, but in the end [singing and music] is right. I hope you had the time of your life. >> [music] >> I wish somebody would be the good old days. All the love you forget. Now all these reckless nights you won't regret.
So, um, we're very welcoming to that. I apologize for some of the delays. Um, you know, we're kind this meeting got pushed back, um, once or twice and so, but I think this is really good to have you in, you know, kind of our wrapup of the year to kind of see the work from this year and then hopefully we can, um, if I'm we're assuming the work will continue next year and then that way you'll have a nice transition into the work that we do for next year. Um the the the only board meeting that we currently have left that's on the books um barring needing to stand one up for a specific reason is on June 23rd. Um I do think I would want to um verify this with our board president, but I'm pretty confident that um for a lot of things we've we've stood up a video presentation and I'm pretty confident that would be helpful for this because there's a lot of information related to all of this.
And it is my pleasure to introduce to you Shannon O'Kelley. The first assistant principal at Central Elementary. >> [applause] >> Thank you so much. I'm honored to accept the position of the first assistant principal at Central School. I'm very excited for this new chapter and I really want to thank the board, Dr. Armitage and cabinet for this opportunity. The District 62 community has been my home and a special place in my heart for many years and I'm greatly looking forward to returning to Central. A place where I've spent many of those years and to be working with Dr. Cooper together continuing to support students, families, and staff in this new leadership role. I'm excited to see familiar faces and I'm really looking forward to building new relationships. I'm thankful to all my colleagues, my mentors, and principals here in District 62 who have encouraged me to follow my passions and also guided me into leadership.
>> [applause] [applause] >> Um and then the rest of our team is not here this evening. Once um, seniors graduate, >> [laughter] >> so, thank you. >> [applause] >> NEXT, I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE UM, MARK MOLINARI. Mark is here representing Granny Pal Meron and Ryan Altenburg as part of our SkillsUSA sponsors. And you can see, and Mark will celebrate, that we have a wide variety of state place state place winners tonight. So, I'll turn it over to Mark. Uh, thank you for thank you for inviting us. Uh, we're we're happy to be here again and uh, celebrate a lot of our winners. Uh, this year was a little different for us. They uh, Peoria was booked up with a ZZ Top concert. >> [laughter] >> My gosh. We didn't have a hotel that was the fifth minimum conditions. We had a one-star hotel that uh, probably going to get called to the board office we stayed at.
When I graduated along with other community members, we formed the Central Burlington FFA Alumni to give others opportunities I didn't have. Just by having an alumni, it opened us up to scholarships that I couldn't qualify cuz we didn't have one. The FFA FFA program did a lot for me, so I felt it was my duty to give back. And over the past 15 years, I have done that and seen this organization grow from nothing both the chapter level and the alumni level. It has been my honor to give back and help others and see the difference we have made by providing help with judging different competitions, help serving food, banquets, section FFA events and as well as donations for the chapter and events to provide financial support for convention scholarships and anything else the chapter may need. I would like to continue my support with the FFA Alumni and the um and I will yield the rest of my time to I believe Jimmy's up next.
>> [applause] >> Uh our next commendation is for Jonas Iclue. So, Jonas, if you can come forward here. Jonas uh also competed in a math competition at IU Indianapolis and was the state champion at that competition. So, excited to have Jonas here and Mrs. Parent will read the commendation for you. Yep. The Avon Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees would like to congratulate Jonas Iclue with the passage of the following resolution. Whereas Jonas is the Indiana University Indianapolis Mathematics Contest 2026 state champion, making him the third Avon High School recipient of this honor. Whereas, Jonas has received a full 4-year scholarship to Indiana University Indianapolis for his efforts. Whereas, Jonas has demonstrated perseverance to achieve excellence at a high level. Whereas, Jonas has demonstrated excellent work work ethic, determination, and commitment. Whereas, Jonas has earned the respect of the entire school community for his high standards and expectations.
Junior Eleanor Brummett, with her commitment and work ethic, has the ability to make insightful connections to arts and science. And sophomore Izzy Bailey, with her infectious enthusiasm, brings her impressive book knowledge and unbridled excitement. From our first practice in September to our qualification for state in April, the mantra I shared with our team was we're winning state. And they would just shake their heads. Moments before we took stage took the stage for the state competition, as Gabby was rereading all of the poetry, I reminded the team take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, especially the opportunities you earn. And this team earned the state championship hands-down. So, congratulations to all of your for all your hard work. >> [applause] [applause] >> Great job. Congratulations. Thank you. Great job. Congratulations. Great job. Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. Great job. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Congratulations Columbus East and uh also our state champions um and national math stars.
Uh we have another IREAD window that goes until the end of June, so we're in the midst of that, but we also have to do um if the government students have to do a naturalization uh citizenship um assessment that they do and we report to the state that they've done that. This is what's finished up all the AP testing. So, now it's important for us to compile all of the data that we've um accumulated. We're really doing some things now. Um Dr. Zupanc's asked us to look at 3 years of data for proficiency, which is tell quite telling um and helping us to see our growth and we'll be sharing that with you more soon. Um we are working on the formative assessment grant and we're also working on the annual reading plan that has to be submitted. Um again, as I mentioned last month, the ILEARN data and the WIDA data because of the standard realignment won't be the proficiency won't be available to to us until the fall, but we are still able to um work with our curriculum status and make those updates to our plans.
Um that uh we did put that up to bid. Those bids came in higher than what I would like to spend on mowing that and so maintenance is taking that on. Um so we've kind of traded a little bit of ground. Maintenance was doing our football field and our practice football field. Uh that fell under the contract for Brown County Schools main campus. So just to keep things very simple, if it's on this main campus, it falls under one person. So it's not us mowing part and then mowing part and trying to work those details out. Um so we will take over all of Eagle Park and campus is uh awarded to Gino Wagler. So put those out to bid. Uh we looked at the bids and looked at what was in the best interest of the district. I have a quick question. Does that include mowing on the 46 side of the wall?
So, we'll each talk about a portion of it tonight, and then we'll be happy to answer any questions that you have. Um for review, those are the new diploma seals. So, the current class of 2028 and then below would be working towards these [clears throat] graduation requirements. The class of '26 and '27 are on old graduation requirements with 440, academic honors, and technical honors. Um so, this is We've had [cough and clears throat] this information for a while. You'll hear seals talked about instead of diploma types. There's some additional credits required that were not required in the past like computing foundations, personal finance, a communications focused course, and then different work-based learning information. And just as a general sort of piece of information, the work-based learning term should be considered like an umbrella and not a specific class. There's a lot of things that fit under that umbrella.
Every day he would come and say something to me. Every day he would say some type of compliment. every day he would be positive. But then I got to pay attention and that wasn't just to me. That mentality is how he treats everyone around him. That's something that I think as a generation of people we need to try to learn from. I think if we're kind and positive to the people around us, it's contagious. And that's what we need to see. So Finley does a wonderful job of really spreading that mentality that I wish more of us had. That was one of the first things that really drew me to you, which I thought was awesome. As I got to know Finley, I saw him in his classes as I went around to see different classrooms, and I saw that he was a pretty stellar student.
So let's ask the coaches if they uh have anything they can give us. >> Sure. >> Uh first of all uh congratulations kids. Uh I just want you to know that uh it's worth it even if you don't finish second in this state, but it is cool. Um I I also would like to uh uh talk about a couple of kids that were on the team last year that did not compete. Uh but they came to all the practices. I kept extra extra players because I expected that we would have a little bit of attrition and they just showed up and showed up and anyway they were both part of uh perfect rounds. Luke Rodriguez and Le Cooper Walsh. Um, I I can't tell you how proud I am of you. Uh, but I'd also like to uh acknowledge everything that goes into this. Your parents and your teachers for many, many years have built you to where you are now, and I hope that you'll continue to uh compete in competitions going forward.
Hoover started the year talking to kindergarteners at both Scott and Helen, Scott and Hebron Elementary Schools. It was literally the first week of school when we did the first one. Um, I remember we were trying to work with the students and the principal even said they don't even know who I am yet. I mean, it was like the second day of school. And now to see how these students have grown. And so, if you haven't caught this episode yet, uh please do so because you'll get to see her interacting with those same students. Uh and it's just amazing to see how they've grown throughout the course of their kindergarten year. A lot of fun doing that. Um and we always like to lift in the spring. Just some pictures here, but there's a lot more we shared on social media. All of our high school National Honor Society programs, uh we don't want this to go by without mentioning it because these students qualify for National Honor Society because they are truly going above and beyond in the classroom and other programs in their school.
