And our students heard that message loud and clear. Um they loved getting out of the um out of the uh Cheshire High School and they loved also going into a professional building. We were up on the 18th floor of New Haven and just had a wonderful view. So even that experience alone for a lot of our students, they've never seen anything like that. That's part of the experience. Um the Investment Club along with um our other business clubs and students this fall also participated in um an experiential um type of learning called the Stock Market Game Challenge. And this was a true trading floor. There were about um 500 students from schools throughout the state and um students were in teams and there were um traders that were running around. They had to know what trades they were going to either make buy or sell decisions um and they had to react to news that was coming out about the markets and the impact that they might have on the stocks um that they were purchasing.

Whether responding to emergencies with the fire department or working with the Board of Education, the mission has always been the same, keeping people safe and helping everyone get home safely to their families each day. I'm proud to live in this great city, proud to serve this community, and proud to work alongside so many dedicated people who care deeply about our residents, our students, and our future. Thank you again for this honor and for your continued support and commitment to our city. It means more to me than words can express. Thank you very much. >> [applause] >> Dr. Tomko, thank you. >> [applause] >> Hey. Thank you, Madam President. Um What uh just an incredible man. Obviously, I don't have to tell anybody that, but even when you when you go over the three saints, just a conversation with him, it's is hum- just humbling. It really is.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. By [singing] the dawn [music] early light, what so proud we [singing] held at the twilight last gleaming? stripes [singing] and bright stars through the perilous [singing] fight. For the ramparts we were [singing] so gallently streaming and the rockets red [singing] flag there. Oh, [singing] say does that star spangled [singing] yet for the [singing] land of the free and the home [singing and music] of the brave. [applause] [cheering] You may be seated. Well, good evening and welcome to Dorado Stadium for the commencement exercises for the graduating class of 2026. My name is Tara Boule and I'm the proud principal of Canyon Deloro High School. I would like to start this evening by welcoming our honored guests from Amphitheater governing board.
So that could be some conversation to have. And then all we've done is we've like this is the policy. So we would give the code and like what the domain was and then we shared the biggest pieces that were changed or that we would want to highlight. Um so for example with this one um there was a lot more this is actually our two years ago one this there was a lot more of like um legal ease to it. So it sounded very like you will comply to the authority and we will call the police and so um we really move towards like a you have a responsibility to your community and that you um even when you are making these poor choices we're still uh there for you to make sure that your like psychological and emotional well-being is still being addressed. So that would be one example and then you don't we don't need to look at each one of these but that was basically every single one their major changes we showed.
So we have a lot of extra folks who are supplying food and supporting our students. We also supply hygiene products two or three times a year as budget permits. We supply school supplies as budget permits. We also supply socks and underwear and I know that our social workers in our school aids are thrilled when I bring those bags around at the beginning of the year and that makes me really happy. We also have great partnership with the library who sends home packets three times a year while the students are on vacation. They get nice dual language packets depending on their age range. So they get crayons and they get coloring books and they get things to read and things to do and we're really happy with that partnership as well as with the Optimist Club who send home books for each student three times a year.
Awesome. He our track team we had the number one thrower in Michael. We had one of our best runners. We had three kids from the track team. So our track team is like that's fine. And they had their worst performance of the year. So >> [laughter] >> But the coaches are really supportive of it and they wanted those guys to go and compete and they all did really really well. So you guys want to just talk a little bit about your project? Um so our project was a like soldering application. Like you could put this thing on top of it that would let you solder with one hand. And through the class we got to first come up with a prototype or like an idea behind it. And then we got to talk to some experts which I think Will did most of. Um and then we got to iterate it, test it a bunch of times, and finally make it to Skills and actually like present it in front of judges and we ended up placing second which is pretty exciting.
My name is Matt Klein. I'm a 1985 graduate of Central High School, four-year FFA member during those years. I operate a vegetable farm in Burlington and two farm markets in Elgin with my wife, Chris, our three sons, and their wives. I I always felt that my experience for FFA was so valuable that after getting out of school and and coming back to the farm, I felt like I I I'd like to see other kids be able to to have that opportunity. And also knowing that participation in FFA is not just for future farmers. It's not and I think a lot of people already know that, but any student can benefit by especially the leadership qualities that that you learn through that organization. Um The alumni group was started every was kind of already gone over this, but after uh FFA was brought back to Central, excuse me.
We know that number is matched or maybe even exceeded by our support staff. If you think of think about it, a bus driver may drive three routes per day with 60 to 70 kids per route. Food service, custodial, maintenance, and office staff serve schools of hundreds of students every day or in the high school's case thousands of students every day. Your impact is huge. So regardless of your role, your impact on our students, our staff, our schools, and our community just simply can't be measured. I always love this quote and I always share it at this reception every year from Andy Rooney. He said, "Most of us end up with no more than five or six people who remember us." Teachers, and I would add to Mr. Rooney's quote, all of our support staff, have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives.
So, thank you. As you can see, we have a huge amount this year, and we continue to grow. So, congratulations, you guys. >> [applause] [applause] >> Board members, if you did not notice a lot of those faces and names looked familiar and sounded familiar because many of those are the students we've seen many times over the years for honors for all kinds of different things. Multilingualism truly is a superpower. I do want to point out two things about our last groups that have come up. Um, like Mr. Steiner always reminds us to thank and recognize the parents. Um, especially board members who are parent of a state champion earlier, Ms. Weelden, congratulations. And then also, um, in that group of students that were just standing up here, um, we have an IU Wells scholar, Vincia Lee, is going to IU and has accepted a Wells Scholarship, which is an incredibly prestigious honor.
So, in all reality, it needed to be in a full enclosed cell with emergency stops, lockout, tagout, like the whole deal if somebody was going to be using it. Um so, I kind of had to keep it in the closet and bring it out periodically for demos. Um and like delegates, safety didn't allow those kind of things. Um so, they understood that wasn't really conducive to the educational realm. Um and they said, "Well, what could you use?" I said, "Well, an educationally friendly robot would be great." They said, "Send us some Send us some quotes." I was like, "Oh, okay. Um I can do that. Mr. Westner and I, you speak in the PD, we were able to go to the Indiana ACTE conference down in Indianapolis. We sat in on a professional development session on this cobot called the M2, uh made by Niro.
So, it's it's really cool to have staff members across the entire district be able to do that because they're part of those kids' journey as well. So, just really really excited for the end of the year celebratory events. Um I would sit here and list them all, but there are so many. Um it would do a disservice, right? So, I just encourage everybody to go on that [clears throat] link and and follow the schools and and talk to the teachers and the principals um to make sure that they don't miss any of those um events for our kiddos.
If they pass I read. If they pass I read. If not, then they're they would stay at a zero. And then same for elementary to um fourth through sixth grade, um but you can see in fifth grade, so they start with their they're at their English and language arts math proficiency score. And then there's other opportunities for our fourth through sixth graders to get those success indicators. Um so, in fifth grade, they can um if they're proficient in so on the social studies I learn test in fourth grade and um sixth grade is the science I learn test. Um there's the if they have a one year of academic progress, they get a success indicator. So, the the box on the right is each success indicator. And then they have a different chart. Oh, I'll go back to that. But, um again for that is where they would start, and then each success indicator is how students move across that.
So, she's been doing it by the time she gets here until time it's time to go home. She's working solid other than her launch. So, we appreciate that. That doesn't go unnoticed. Um and so, she recently added business to your MA master's degree. >> Yes. Well, I my MBA qualifies me to teach business. So, I passed this. I TOOK >> SO, this prize, we want to give you this. >> We want you to have dinner on us. >> Okay. Awesome. Thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you for all YOU DO. I LIKE this little corner over here where you can hide a little. Keep it going. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, if Mrs. Crumb could come up and join me, I will start with our staff member of the month. I know you hate me right now, but this is welld deserved. >> I wrote notes so I don't forget anything.
Thank you. Here's your coaches. >> So, I coached the English portion. Raise your hand for English. So we came in uh first in the regional section and uh our theme this year was American Revolution. Thank you. It's been a couple weeks. So um and we do appreciate uh Julie, Miss Julie Wendor for donating our books to help us succeed. And we're really proud of our team. >> I coach this science and math team science. Uh you need to understand understand that this is high school level material that they're asking for our students to know. Um, most of our students were sixth graders. So, we are really excited to see what they're going to be able to do in the next two years, being able to blow them out of the water. So, having as many sixth graders as we do being able to do high school material, it really just astounds us.

And once again as you glance through the claims did anyone have any questions in particular? No. Okay. So the claims data today May 18th 531,68634. And then we'll just move on to the finance report. Uh education at the end of April 2026. That's going to be the very first line. Fund 101 balance is 3,190 29010. If you go down three lines from there, that's going to be fun 300, which is operations balance in that account was 43214961. And then if you go to finance packet page F25, that's going to be the last page of the fund report. The last column, the last line, balance in all funds is 8,410,83760. Next in your packet is a depository statement. And that basically is showing us what our total balance is at the end of April 2026 in all of our banks. And then it also tells us what the balance is in all of our funds.
Do I have a motion? Motion. Do I have a second? Second. Mr. First of all, I'd like to thank uh Mr. Mason. He was kind of our lead in this. Um so, I appreciate the time that that you took. Um I'm just reading some notes here. Um the committee which uh consisted of the lead teachers, one per grade level. Um there was actually six different companies uh that came in. Uh this was for our math book textbook adoption. Um the the committee narrowed it down to three which was uh McGraw Hill, uh Curriculum Associates, and I Met. Um I believe all three made a presentation, correct? >> Yes, they did. Uh we that was about two-week window there where all >> Two-week window and then over you know, Tuesday, Thursday, they came after school and that committee was Amy Burkholder, Heather Stutzman, Tiffany Binkley, Lori White, Arlene Leiby, and Faith Ellertson.
Also joining him is Miss Walker, his entrepreneurship teacher and our sponsor club president for FBLA. Thank you and congratulations to all of our winners. We're going to take just a brief one minute transition time and then we'll move into our public hearing. Good All right, we are now going into our preliminary determination hearing um with Mr. Matt Miles. >> Thank you, Madam President. Dr. Dr. Smith, members of the board, tonight I'm joined by Mr. Jeff Quacenbush from Barnes and Thornberg. I go ahead and call Jeff uh to make his way up to the podium. We'll have a couple of different speakers throughout the presentation on our preliminary determination uh hearing tonight. And uh Mr. Quacam Bush will cover our legal requirements and the process for the uh public hearings. >> Thank you, Mr. Miles. Good evening, Madam President, members of the board. Dr. Smith, it is always a pleasure to be with you, but even tonight to see all the awards.
Industrial use. Yes, exactly, exactly. Um so you have to you know, again, be careful and sometimes things get marked compostable I think that aren't actually compostable. I know like the green colored >> [clears throat] >> bags at Trader Joe's for produce, um one of our our Beyond Plastic colleagues actually put it in a a pot and boiled it for hours and it did not break down at all. Um so you just you kind of have to again proceed with caution and see Yeah. I'd recommend on the Beyond Plastics website they have, you know, learn more and they have drop down menus and they have one on bioplastics and compostables. Bioplastics just means that the carbon molecule where the fossil fuel molecule is coming from a plant-based which has its own uh problems. But a lot of the chemicals are still added to bioplastics. So bioplastics are not the solution.
