And as you can see, we are balanced to the penny with the banks. And then we also have a fund transfer report. This is very typical. Each month you give me authorization to move money from bank to bank to pay bills depending on what bills I'm paying. So we've got a transfer in there for that. We have our regular education ops uh transfer. And then we also have that school lunch transfer from 8400 which is a holding account that uh we make a transfer each month after purchases have been made and food has been consumed. And then we've got um a breakdown of bond 22 expenditures. Uh total expenditures to date which was April 30th, 2026. I left a note on there for you. We have paid all retainage on projects. So any remaining balance that is in this bond will go on uh go on to be used for ongoing uh projects within the corporation.
And they've done a phenomenal job of Okay, I'm taking what I learned on this, I'm going back to the my grade level, getting their thoughts, talking about everything. They've done a great job. Um so, again, like you would just mentioned, we've had multiple companies come in, give their presentations, and and McGraw Hill is by far by far number one. Um we went through a rubric, very rubric. I'm not sure if you have that in front of you. Um every single grade level came back as far as McGraw Hill's our number one and it's not even close. To the point where after their their presentation was given, like, why are we even doing anything else? They're so strong. and which was evident with the other presentations, they were just not them by the time of you uh we got done. So, we reconvened as a committee, what are your thoughts?
My hands are actually a little sore from all the clapping we had to do, but it's great to see all the exciting things that are happening here at Lawrence Township Schools. Tonight is a very similar process to what you've gone through on very uh frequent occasions over the last several years related to anytime you're going to be be doing a large project of any size, whether it's high school, elementary school, or in this case going to be for your uh um uh career and technical arts programs and that sort of thing, as well as other projects across the district. uh we need to go through a couple of public hearings on that under Indiana law and then at the conclusion of the second public hearing in June we will actually have a resolution presented to you. The notice for the public hearings was published in both newspapers uh at least 10 days in advance as required by Indiana law.
Uh compostables depends on who's making them. You can get bags from China that says compostable. And a lot of these big uh compostable companies are not accepting them anymore because they're noticing it's degrading their value their uh quality of their compost. Um so that is certainly not the solution. Again, it's probably better than uh just a standard plastic bag if you're getting a compostable bag. Um but reusable has to be where we go. Single-use plastic is what we need to be focused on to get rid of and a lot of that compostable stuff is sold to us so you think you can go get your iced coffee and most of it actually doesn't even make it to the compost. It gets into the landfill anyway. And every iced coffee cup you've ever had from Dunkin Donuts is still around in this world, and it will be long after you are dead and your grandkids are dead, and it's not going away.
So, >> that and I'm not here to argue that fact. I'm here to reset where we were before for the people in the audience and the people watching. Okay. >> And maybe watching for the first time. >> Right. Well, I just I yep, that's fine. Um, we just we weren't planning on discussing it or answering questions on that tonight. Um, we we fully intend to at at a future hearing as you've scheduled the order of topics. Okay. Thank you. Fine. Do you Do you want to stay up there, Mr. Wittus? Um, the topics for discussion that we discussed in the sequence are one, contamination, two, flood plain, three, storm water, and four, wetland {slash} riverfront. You agree? Yes. Okay. And tonight's discussion will focus on the contamination issue. Yes. Okay. Okay. Now, do you have a uh a presentation that you would like to um share?
Any discussion? >> All in favor? I >> I >> unanimous. >> We now move to the student representative report. Tonight's representative, 9th grader Charlotte Alons. Um it's time for your report. >> Good evening. My name is Charlotte Alons and I'm in the ninth grade. I'd like to share a few current events and highlights from Dartmouth High School. Last Friday, students participated in the Special Olympics, which was a great success, and luckily, the weather held up for the event. I was very fortunate to see my brother perform. The junior banquet was also a big success, and students had a great time celebrating and dancing together. After two busy weeks, AP exams have officially wrapped up. [clears throat] Seniors are currently presenting their senior capstone projects as they prepare for graduation and their final day of classes and senior checkout will take place this Friday. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19th, students will attend the yearbook exciting party and students from Mr.
So, that's not including the 125 taken out of transportation. >> correct. So, 800 minus 125, so you're going to be left with about about 675 in that one. Your special education account has about, and I'm using these just for general term, 400,000 or will, I should say does it, but will by June 30th have that. That's something you really need, you really shouldn't tap into at all. But people see it and they think it's a lot of money and and it is for all of us as homeowners, right? In that sense, but should not be tapped into because that's there for move-ins, etc., different needs that arise. Circuit breaker, roughly 900,000 in there. Similarly, should not be really be tapped into. Andy, what's that say about using this year's money for Yeah, the general fund is 12 receipts of current year's money. Yes. Statute will not allow to carry over prior year.
We um do a lot um our students are highly engaged in their own learning. There's a lot of problem-solving, complex thinking, um making thinking visible. I don't know what the time constraints are. Do you want me to just show some your Okay. All right, so let's hear from our next student. >> I'm Jared Hickey. I'm an 11th grader at my high school. I'm taking AP Macroeconomics and I'm an active member of Mock Trial and currently taking CTE Accounting and I've learned so much. Firstly, in AP Macro, I learned about economics on a global scale and the effect of policies. I think that a good example of what of the value of what I've learned is that whenever I see news about the Fed taking sort of monetary action in the economy, I understand what monetary policy they are enacting, the cause for it, and the result they hope to achieve.

You know, they're not calling it a heat wave. Uh so, I just wanted to make that clear. You should have all received Parents should have all received a some kind of announcement. So, that's uh tomorrow and Wednesday. All right. So, so um the statute is very clear about the May 15th recognition of uh employee renewals in New Jersey, speaking of New Jersey. The New Jersey statutes. The contracts here also have their own little um caveats on all of that with regard to uh especially in the uh uh the GFT contract and some of the other two were the talk about assignments by May 15th. So, at a time like this, unfortunately, I've I've been involved in a few different districts where where there was an impending need for financial stability. And these are not easy decisions to make. When I first came here and we looked up some of the of those issues and and everyone here who was whether here at the meetings with me or not, even prior to me starting, we knew what the financial distress was in the district.
>> [applause] >> from Harelson Elementary. Principal Stephanie Hayes [applause] from Innovation Academy, Principal Michael McConnell from Mesa Verdie Elementary, Principal Tim Rip. [applause] And from Cross Middle School, Principal Chris Gutierrez. [cheering and applause] Thank you all for being here with us this evening. As this is my ninth year at CDO, my experiences over the years have taught me to start this night with one thing, by saying thank you. As I mentioned at graduation each and every year, it takes a village. And I have been fortunate to work with such extraordinary staff here at CDIO. Thank you to our assistant principles, Mr. Marco Dominguez, Miss Jennifer Flag, and Mr. Brent Spencer for managing and leading much of what it takes to make a high school run. and our counselors, teachers, and support staff year after year continue to be some of the most dedicated, wonderful, and caring people that I've ever had the honor to work with.
Um maybe feedback on do you think that there's another component that we should add um knowing that we have to like update with the policy but if there is there anything else that you think is not part of this like flow that you would want us to add anybody okay um >> I'm wondering actually um like I know because we have new policy right now and we're being guided Is there and I'm sorry if I missed it. I'm having a little bit of allergy issues. So if I start sneezing and suddenly mute myself, you'll know why. So I'm wondering did is there a spot where like if we continue with this committee moving forward next year, like is there policy that they want us to look at? >> So what we've done in the past is on this one, this was all the ones that were left over.
So, I'm really I'm really proud of my volunteers. Dwayne here is my chief volunteer. >> [applause] >> I'll just take one one quick minute to say when when we really got hustling and bustling, my four first volunteers on the site were the retired UPS driver, a retired FedEx driver, a retired postal worker, and a retired long-distance semi-truck driver who worked with grocery stores. We have systems like you wouldn't believe. I don't have to worry about a thing. Great people. Just quickly, what's coming up and I'm I hope I know Jen will has some of this information already. I left you little presents there on your table, so you know who we are and what we do. What we have have two things coming up. Our annual Christmas in July food drive, which is our biggest food drive of the year to restock our shelves. When when we're done after next Wednesday, we have nothing left on the shelf.
Yeah, thanks. >> [laughter] >> All right. Uh moving on to item number four, can I get a motion from the Board of Education to approve the minutes of the March 10th, 2026 Policy Committee Meeting, the April 20th, 2026 Monthly Business Meeting, the April 20th, 2026 Closed Meeting, the April 27th, 2026 Parent Teacher Advisory Committee Meeting, the May 4th, 2026 Workshop Meeting, and finally the May 4th, 2026 [clears throat] Closed Meeting. So moved. Second. Most Chris seconds. >> Thank you very much. Ken Dawson. >> Aye. Chris Espinoza. Aye. April Finan. Aye. Michael Riskey. Aye. Katie Courtney. Aye. And Don Renner. Aye. Motion carries. >> Thank you. Item five, Julie, do we have any slips? No, sir. Thank you. Uh item six, I'll turn it over to Hank for recommendations and reports. Uh we'll start with uh introductions of new student board members. >> Yay. All right.
So um and I just want to say, you know, there's many opportunities in agriculture for everyone. And who knows, you know, just just an introduction one student introduced to something that might be that spark. So we want to keep that going. It's a very important thing for us. Thank you. >> [applause] >> And next we have Jean Meyer. >> Resident. In Illinois, a young person under the age of 18 cannot get a tattoo even with parental consent as the change is permanent. Yet many liberal organizations celebrate the entire June for Pride Month. This celebrates the permanent changes, sometimes sterilization, sometimes genital mutilation of young people. The celebration chooses to ignore the side effects of all transgender treatment and act as if the many de-transitioners who regret body altering treatments do not exist. As As recovered transgender from 1971, the sexless sixth grader as I was called, tormented by adolescents and hating anything feminine, I think I might have considered hormone blockers.
She has developed Avon High School's online education center into a critical component to enhance and remediate student achievement. Denise built and structured a program for students to show their mastery of content and find success in courses that had previously been a challenge. She's been a leader and pacesetter for the state in credit remediation and her work has been recognized by Edmentum, which is the online curriculum used in her program. When Denise started the online education center, there were 12 courses available and students earned 88 credits. The online education center currently serves over 70 courses and there were credits earned last school year. We would honor the number for this school year for 25-26, but she's still got a a few students getting across the finish line. She told me that Saturday, she's still working on a few. Denise embodies the expectations that she holds that she upholds for students, perseverance, ingenuity, and drive.
This marks the ninth year that BCSC and our community partners have promoted the work ethic certification, and during that time participation and student achievement have continued to grow significantly. Nine years ago, 22% of seniors enrolled in the program, this year it was at 52%. At the eighth grade, it was 16, and this year it's 64, and the sixth graders from 58 to 82. And mayor just told me she had to read 300 and 82 names, 62 names the other day at the recognition for them. So, um Cheers. Um The work ethic certificate recognize students who consistently demonstrate five essential employability skills from self-motivation, critical thinking, reliability, responsibility, teamwork, etc. As well as when they demonstrate those, they have to have three uh staff members of BCSC that know them well during the year to sign off on each of those. They also must maintain rigorous uh GPA, attendance of a 98% or higher, and um complete community service at the right level.
It would just smoke him and that'd be bad. Um this thing if it touches a human, it knows it and it stops, it shuts down, it sets off a little light that says, "We're in error state now." And then the kids have to be able to troubleshoot that. Um it has the robot, so it's a multi-axis robotic arm like you'd see in any of their cells there. Uh the picture is that's Nathan Beal at Adecco presenting the check to the engineering classes while we're on a plant tour. Um we got a real check as well that went into the bank that bought the robot, but they had that one uh for the photo op and that's gone up on Adecco on Adecco stuff. Um they're in Goodland, and they're also in four other facilities now, so they've really, really grown um out of their little spot in Goodland, Indiana.
So that's that's the next project with um the girls and I have fun with that. How do you feel about the theme? The theme? Yeah. Well, gosh, I think I just dig deep, right? >> [clears throat] >> I think the first year we had the whole TED Ed team brainstorm the list of like a whole list of different ideas for themes and decided on one and then there was uh the Mavericks, Icons, and Geniuses um was a part of that first list that sounded really really cool. And then um this year I just really wanted to choose something that I thought epitomizes our journey throughout this whole thing and so I don't know, you get a vision board out, you start writing a bunch of ideas down and and you land on something. So that's where I'm at. Yeah. Looking at financials, um you are you have the fund report in front of you um so you can see the different funds and where we're at month-to-date.
