All of the blueprints and everything have the restrooms designed in that same way. But Evan, I' I'd love because I haven't asked you recently. I'd love to ask you if that's functional or if we're creating problems in some way. >> No, we love it. Honestly, it's there hasn't been a single issue um at all. like not even with the older kids or anything like they don't even the kids don't even seem like they realize it's any different to be honest. It's really nice. The only thing that we did do um is identify grade levels for the restrooms because it did feel a little strange that you could potentially have an eighth grader and a kindergarten like a eighth grade girl and a kindergarten boy or boy, you know. So, we did um like our downstairs outside restrooms. We did kind of identify this as like a K3 and a 48, but other than that, we haven't really had any any issues at all.
We also have Ed Red, which is the lobbying arm that we work with. Um we have an Ed Red alternate cuz their meetings are sometimes during the day and they can be hard to get to. That's okay. Um and then we have the um D62 Foundation, the lovely organization that we work with to help raise money to fulfill wishes for teachers. So. Um does anyone have strong feelings about any of these um openings? So, I am an ambassador till the rest of the year, so um I would definitely maybe you can come into meetings with me, um but I'll take North Cook if that's okay with everybody still. And I would like to be the delegate again cuz I do have a lot of stuff we're working on for the next triple I conference. But we typically you typically don't get two. Oh, so should I just do the delegate as the ambassador cuz that's really why I'm doing the ambassador.
>> We do it once a year. Okay, cuz I know at my middle school I we do it weekly, which it's a smaller, but it's just part of their their zones check-in. And so I love the I love the idea that we are looking for who are your go-to people. Can you name at least two people? Mhm. Um to do it maybe more than once a year, cuz it doesn't seem like it's a very big survey, right? We're not asking a lot of questions. Is that something that we'd ever you would ever consider going forward? >> We could absolutely think about it. It takes It takes our staff about 45 minutes to do. So it's something we need to make sure when we ask staff that we have dedicated time within the day to set aside for staff to do that. For students, they were able to complete it during access, and that took them about 30 minutes.
Um so our Skyward, Otis, all of those things have rubrics built in those and those rubrics um have those standards attached to them. So when they do grade on that rubric or they do grade in Otis or they take a test in HMH or i-Ready, it automatically puts that into their um the column that it is. Um we are looking into whether or not we want to weight those. That's still a discussion that's going to continue to happen and then continue as we involve evolve through this. Um What training will teachers uh receive? Like I said, we're going to still continue with our PD. Um There and I think that that will actually decrease the um US about inconsistencies. I actually think that the standards-based will actually increase consistency and get away from the inconsistency because if you're measuring to that standard, students can add and subtract within 10.
They were some overnight oats which are popular. The one that was actually the most popular I don't have on here, but it was a apple pie or an apple crisp um overnight oat. We do an Asian salad with homemade yum yum sauce. We do Mediterranean bowls with tzatziki sauce and then And a photo of the cherry blossom chicken. Um during the summer we also partner with different community programs. It would be the library. We partner with Parks and Rec. We partner with Foundation for Youth and we continue to feed students um throughout the summer time at those spots. The program for summer, you do not have to be a BCS student to participate in those. The meal service is for any child under the age of 18. It's free of charge. There's no eligibility check for any of those [snorts] sites. We have seen an increase in participation in the last 3 years and we hope that will continue this year.
So it started with us buying a gondola that came with one of the blimps and from there we reverse engineered it and translated it into Inventor which Mr. Vibert was talking about earlier. And from there we just modified it and kind of stripped it down to what we needed, what we didn't need and you can see our journey from the top left all the way to four on the right and the top two are the gondola that's currently on it along with the motor mounts that are on the side and the mount for the motor that actually drops the coupons on the left on the right. >> All right, so for our final design we as I said we went with the balsa and then we wrapped it in Mylar, the gold Mylar sheets which is actually pretty sick when you get it out and fly under these lights cuz under these lights under these lights yeah it's like a disco ball basically is the best way to explain it but yeah it's it's very cool.
I'll make a motion. Second? >> Second. Is that Brian? Yeah. Yep. Thank you. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Opposed? Passes 5-0. Recommendation to suspend the rules to allow for a second reading of ISBA policy 4307 wireless devices prohibition. May I have a motion? I'll make a motion. Brian second. Jared? All in favor? I. I. Opposed? Passes 5-0. Recommendation to approve second reading of ISBE policy 4307, wireless devices for permission. May I have a motion? I'll make a motion. Second. >> Ryan. All in favor? I. >> I. Opposed? Passes 5-0. Uh Mr. Manion has some discussion on the recommendation to approve Parkview Sports Medicine athletic training contract. Yeah, so as many people here might know, this has been a long drawn-out process. We we lost our provider in OBS in September, October. I'm right here in football season. Uh Cody got moved over to Carol. It's right in his backyard, next to them.
Thank you. >> Like you tell your students, Mr. Had a little hustle. Let's go get in here. Missing a few. All right, I'm gonna bypass. You guys have all heard the accommodation awards and welldeserved whether it be for the secondary level teacher of the year, elementary level teacher of the year, or employee of the year. Congratulations to you all. I will read your name and uh come on up and get your certificate. So, uh, teacher of the year finalist from Taff Middle School, Connie Scott from Colonel Wheeler Middle School. Austin Thor from Eisenhower Elementary School. Patty from Lake Street Elementary School. Kathleen Zach Rice from MacArthur Elementary School. Kristen McFerson from Solen Robinson Elementary School. Leah Natovic, sorry. I'll forget that. From Timothy Ball Elementary School, Castor Seas. Teacher of the year finalist from Jerry Ross Elementary School, Kylie. Our employee of the year finalist from Crown Point High School, Marjanna Saloska.
Some people think that you know oh this time of year um we're going to have a few months to relax. Our summer school's over 2,000 students and so we're closing out one school year but also ramping up for a massive summer school. We have um a real I read focus for elementary school and then in high school we focus on credit recovery. And with our new diploma those opportunities are are really important for students. You may have seen on social media that we will once again provide free meals for all children 18 and under through the USDA summer food service program. We have 12 locations across the community and so for families in need I would encourage them to go to the EVSC Facebook page to check that out. >> I was a little concerned about the time frame within there. Like breakfast was like 8:00 to 8:15.
Uh that's on top of um projectors at Rid Path, Deer Meadow, and TZ that are also not new or have none of those have been replaced um at least since 2020 when I started. So we are wanting to plan to uh chip away uh at that and not have to replace everything all at once. um you might remember something similar with uh devices um curriculums trying to put those things um on a good rotation and so we have a proposal in the packet the new line Q Pro Elite um it'll be turn key uh installed by power for both middle school uh and high school. Um this would be an item that would be paid for out of the bond proceeds. Um It's not our local operating dollars. It's not any of our education fund dollars. Um, essentially, it's one of those things that has been deferred time and time again, and we eventually have to uh address that.
So, just be aware of the switches. It's good that they're trying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. >> [laughter] >> I didn't say hard. And there yeah, there's regrettable substitutions a lot of times in this world. Excuse me. Um, so I know you've talked about like, you know, recycling and not sort of refilling your containers and all that, but I don't know anything about that. Where would you go do that? Like especially like these big like laundry things that you buy, you can't buy laundry stuff without being in a big container. And it's a huge amount of plastic. Um Yeah. >> Yeah, I mean I I think you could Google it, but they're they're popping up. There's I mean to near you. Uh, there's one in Newton Center. There's Concord. Deborah's Naturals has a refill station and all the bulk foods and there's one in Lexington and there's one in Worcester.
Um, so again, in accordance with the MassDEP Contingency Plan or MCP, all of the soil we excavated and appropriately disposed of during future construction. And again, we have a soil management plan that we're seeking your approval on and the dewatering plan. So, we put forward a plan, which I'll get into detail. We're looking for approval as part of this order of conditions that you're satisfied that that plan is appropriate for what's here. And we had We recommend a condition that if additional compounds are identified during construction, when the when the buildings come down and we analyze the soil, cuz any soil that's being removed has to be tested. If there's another compound in there, the LSP will review it. They'll determine if the soil management plan's appropriate, and if it's not, we will come back to the board for review and approval to make sure that it's still applicable.
>> Well, good evening everyone. Great job to each and every one of you. I love how you were able to come up here. You spoke extremely well. Uh I'm sure was anyone nervous? You can don't be shy. It's okay. It's okay to be it's it's okay to be a little nervous. Uh you are all great speakers. I am curious though if you how does the composting work in the cafeteria? Um h does anyone want to share that? We have like green bins and like we go we sign up for each lunch shift and we help them like sort it in compost and trash and then at the end of the day we bring the bins into a bigger bin and then they Yeah. And then they pick it up every two weeks. >> Every two weeks. >> Mhm. >> Fabulous. Well, thank you for that.
There are kids who will never forget being dressed up as a frog. Um so I think that those pieces kind of after the pandemic didn't come back and maybe were this will be less of this. I mean, that was a big deal. And we still And we still do it and I know you know this, but we still have theater, right? And what you're doing is it gets to be competing with our students, which our student numbers are going down. And I always tell parents that yeah, it's tough. There's always you So many hours. >> choices to make. A kid can't be on this this field playing this sport and be at practice and all Unfortunately, in life we all choices to make. We all can't be everywhere at one time. You do it and maybe right increasing number of Well, some point you have discussions.
And supporting the the gen ed teacher with scaffolding that supports all learners is a is a big part of that. Sam, do you have anything uh Kicking Sorry, it's still that I knew here. That's okay. I think I just have kind of two questions just to get us uh more or less yeah, this is a it all um what you what you see yourself as greatest strength as a leader and on the flip side what you feel you're still in a growth and Sure. I think one of my greatest strengths as a leader um I comes from my school psychology background. I think I'm a reflective listener um and I think you need to be um whether it's working with a school team or sitting in a contentious PPT um you need to to listen to listen to different viewpoints um to take into consideration what families or staff members are talking about um what concerns they have, what barriers they see.
Uh, we'd like to um, learn more about Hello. About um, making thinking or or practice more making student thinking visible um, and we'd also like to learn more um, and incorporate UDL um, strategies and teaching practices in our classroom. So, to um, just I hope you will see that um, learning in the business department is exciting. Um, it is um, we try to keep as up to date as possible. We are innovative, dynamic, and authentic. Thank you.
Uh again, if any questions, you can reach out to me. Thank you, Mrs. Petrie. Are there any committee reports? Uh BA, okay. Thank you, Mrs. Petrie. Um um >> [clears throat] >> so, first I again, I want to extend my appreciation to the administrative team. Uh as Dr. Tomko mentioned, um we shoulder shouldered a lot of the burden in terms of of combing through uh and making sure that the budget we submitted to the county, the allocations that we had to salaries, was what was in fact um where we are today. Um so, between the tireless uh work between the professionalism and and the maintaining of of confidentiality, uh I can't thank the team uh enough and Dr. Tomko, of course, working through very very difficult decisions. Um one of one of the things that I wanted to do tonight was just share um next steps through this process.
[applause] Good evening, faculty, family, friends, and most importantly, the class of 2026. Growing up, I think many of us believed life would begin at some perfect moment, a point where everything made sense and our lives finally felt put together. But standing here now, I don't think that's truly the case. On my drive to CDO, I often listened to Noah Khan and one lyric from his song Young Blood resonated with me. Start your life in the middle of the jungle. A jungle feels like a more accurate description of where we are right now. Not standing before a neatly mapped future, but in the middle of something uncertain with only the next step ahead. In getting here tonight, we've already taken many memorable steps. learning that the steps that shape us the most aren't the easy ones. They're the ones where things don't quite go the way we expected, forcing us to adjust, try again, or keep showing up when quitting would have been easier.
It's worked worked really well. >> I mean, honestly, we even do that at like the older campuses where there's like um boys restroom, girls restroom, they're still like this is for K2, this is for 35, this is 468. Just because like like you were saying, it's honestly protection for the kindergartener and it's protection for the eighth grader. So they're like they should be able to use a restroom that's like in their designated area. >> I have a question. Um the third bullet uh can can everybody hear me? Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Sometimes my internet connection is not so great. So I'm always paranoid. Uh the third uh bullet align standing policy to specifically address the needs interest of our LGBTQIA community. Um, and and this could be just my own interpretation of the way it's written that kind of implies to me that we have policy already that is uh do do I guess that's my question.
