Uh we're going to go through very similar process next year at the high school when Dr. Smith transitions transitions out uh to Arjack. And um I've said this before, I really appreciate the opportunity that the district gives us to make sure that our staff uh has voice uh in that process. And you know, that shows to our staff that our voices are valued, appreciated, and respected. So let's uh keep doing that, please. All right. Uh congratulations are in order for the graduating class of 2026, and I'm very much looking forward to celebrating with them at tomorrow night's graduation ceremony. It's hard to believe that that's already tomorrow. Um I'd like to give a specific shout-out to graduating seniors Joshua Patterson and Charlotte Severson, who are the recipients of our BEA scholarship. Josh will be taking uh diesel technician training at WyoTech trade school, and Charlotte will be studying special education at Aurora University.
I'm not sure where a salary study would get us cuz we know we need to increase some salaries. I I I just wonder if we might be better, you know, if we could uh maybe sit down with our new CSBO and um look at the individual positions and kind of m- maybe do some salary increases one-on-one or and then, you know, make a- or or see how much we can go across the board without breaking our the next in the next 2 years budgets or something. I Yeah. I I understand that. I think the difficulty is um we toss around a lot of numbers we make this much compared to this one and compared to that one, but we're never ever looking at total compensation. So a group might feel like they're severely underpaid when actually they're not that far off um and vice versa.
So once you get a chance to look at that, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me and I will be happy to answer those or find the answers for you on those. So at this time, it is my recommendation that you um would pass the resolution authorizing me permission to speak with the auditor for informationational purposes. >> You got to have that information to make a decision anyway. Do we have to have the information? And yes, and um [clears throat] if I will bring it back to you again in June and if you do choose to go that route of doing a referendum this fall, it will need to be approved at the June board meeting. >> Okay.
So, I'm going to thank you and your crew for what they do for us. You're welcome. It's mowing has been tough. We've gotten stuck in many many times. We're we're we're balancing mow long grass or giant ruts. You know, what do you want? Um so, it's it's good. I thank you. >> It's good. Thank you, Matt. And the the Philippine operations advisory group is meeting monthly. So, I think the next one is June 14th. Probably so. I think that's right. Yes, if you would like to June 17th at 1:00. Thanks, Matt. Thank you. Thanks, Matt. All right, thank you. Matt Matt didn't want to add, but we are always looking for volunteers to mow. So, if anybody has free time, is retired, and wants to jump on a mower I talked to Mrs. Long. That sounds like a good case for us. Do you have to have a driver's license, though?
No one will say exactly. >> you. Kyla Marino in and kicks it to open space. Can Marino get it? Marino with a little bit of a body check. >> [cheering] >> Marino with just a little bit of a body check. Look like Ray Lewis on that hit right there. Minnechaug gets the ball over the restraining line. O'Connor gets the ball to Lee to set up Minnechaug's offense. Lee with the ball behind the cage. Looking to do little roll dodge, turns around, takes a shot. Looks like almost like a change up the ball. Out of bounds. Good job by Julia Gray come out of the net. Nobody from Minnechaug backing up that shot. Julia Gray comes up with the ball. And look at how far back they're falling. >> Yeah, they're just they're going to Yep. I mean it's smart. You saw them there what we were saying.
[snorts] Uh Max, which is really funny. Max, which is really funny is I really just met Max last week because I am not in the same shop. Uh and Max became highly recommended by his uh his teachers. Uh all three teachers said this summer um you know Max would be a perfect fit for the Hunch. And what's really good is as a sophomore now I will have Max for the next couple years uh working through the u working through the the program. Uh so we got some really great interesting news uh uh from NASA. We're very excited and uh we're looking forward to a summer internship this year. They've gone ahead and they've offered Max a job. They're going to pay him. Uh so he'll be a paid internship. Um he can work as many hours as he wants up to 40. Uh Max has already came to me with a couple commitments that he has this summer.
Um when you say it's on the list, do we are we using the master Google Doc that we created when we were doing the walk-throughs a few years ago or is there another list? And if so, could we make one list that we can all have access to uh as viewers so that we can be aware of what's going on? I have a my my typical yearly budget and on my budget one of the tabs on the bottom is a three- and five-year up to it's a five-year capital plan so and and has a list of things and that's pretty much I believe the capital list that's shared with you folks. But the superintendent has access and the business manager actually has has is the one that helps control it with me. So Andy Parket would have all that and he can share that at any time.
Um but that's a separate issue. Um I wanted to acknowledge something structural that I think does affect the conversation, but it's never talked about, and that's the minimum budget requirement. Um and I think the public would benefit from an explanation of that from you. I don't want to be accused of spreading misinformation, um but my understanding is that once a budget is set, the following year's budget cannot be below the prior year's fiscal budget. Absent I think there's like four exceptions to that. Um, so this year's budget becomes the floor for next year's budget amount. Um, but I'll allow you to explain that and I hope you will. Over time though, this creates an upward traject- trajectory and families are feeling that and they can't afford it. Even if they fully don't understand the mechanism that's driving it. When residents vote no or say that the budget's too high, it does not mean they have disdain for our schools.
She has come across many times when the math makes sense and the concept makes sense but it didn't work. Instead of giving up, she has striven and worked with her peers and educated her peers and supported her class to go to that next step to look at things outside the box to challenge her own thinking and to apply new concepts to what's already there. I'd like to recognize our first technology education board tonight to Leah Dale. [applause] >> [applause] >> I have a distinct honor of working for a department, a manual department where we have many different attributes of of learning and application to the real world. from the engineering perspectives to also to the family consumer science perspectives. So for our next award, I'd like to recognize a student who all CT teachers weren't from agreement in the classroom with both her teachers as well as her peers.
And each of them will be receiving $2,000 towards their education through our scholarship. So congratulations to both of them. Uh the class of 2026 is a really, really special group of kids. If you've had the uh joy of being able to work with them. Uh and it might sound a little cliché, but if these are the people that are going to be our future leaders, then I'm very much convinced that the future is indeed bright. Really good group of kids. So all that being said, as we look towards next school year and beyond, I want to reiterate what I said to you at the March board meeting, uh because I think this is something that is going to be at the forefront of our discussions for the foreseeable future. In the face of economic uncertainty pretty much popping up anywhere that you look right now, uh we must make sure that our resource allocation is fundamentally rooted in investing in our students and that means investing in our staff as well.
So I think the only way to really get to the bottom of it where we have some pretty significant structural changes that need to happen in the salary and it's not a short-term situation. So for example, if you want to be I think we're going to find a couple of groups that are going to be fairly far off of where our competitors are and it might take multiple years to get even close. I mean, similar to our contract that we just did with the CEA, it's 4 years and it's pretty substantial increases each of the 4 years. You can't get there in a year and my concern with waiting on the salary study is that's just the likelihood of all of it getting pushed down the road. We've been pushing it down the road for a really long time particularly with the 12-month employees, that that gap just continues to get wider and at least this way you there could be a plan that the district could make for multiple years, which may not be putting anything in the first year.
Any questions regarding the [snorts] auditor certification? I'm trying to shorten [laughter] >> that resolution. Yeah, that resolution number seven. Any questions regarding that? >> Not I'll make a motion for to allow the um auditor certification meeting with Andrea. >> I second that. >> All in favor say I. >> I. >> On to personnel end of employment elementary professional retirement resignation. And we can do both of these at the same time. And this is where we get to our bittersweet piece of it. Um we get to look back and be so thankful for the time that these employees have given to us and to our school. And then also we can be very happy for them moving forward as well. So we have Sharon Nep who is going to be retiring as a parah of 27 years here at barre. And so again very thankful for the time.
No. Good luck with Okay, well, that brings us to IME. The adoption of the agenda. Can I have a motion? I'll make a motion. I have a motion and a second.
They're really good in transition. They're they're giving up the transition. They're doing a little bit of a a half of half a ride. Yep. Get the ball over. Pellegrino gets the ball over the restraining line, sets up the Spartans offense. Pellegrino over to McKechnie. There they are and Whitworth again just right Yep. >> right in our airspace. Yep, give them Well, when you score that many goals and you're averaging seven seven goals a game, it's it's a little uh little tough. Yep. McKechnie goes around the screen, turns around, gets in Good job by Mac to set the screen. McKechnie goes around it and get herself an 8-m attempt. So, if you can if you can do some things like that and take away what their defensive scheme is, it's that's that's good. This is a little bit of a tough angle here, too, though. Yeah.
That is not a problem. NASA was just excited that uh we could push forward and continue making parts. So it looks like um our future with NASA is really really good. Uh it's good for us and it's good for um you know everybody that's involved. So we're really happy moving forward and it's a pleasure for me to stand here before you today and tell you such great news. Um it's kind of tough following up with gold medalists from skills. Uh I am very proud of my my senior graduating this year. She placed silver in a very tough category, but we are moving forward and there's great things coming out of advanced manufacturing and we're uh we're very excited to share that with you tonight. I thank you all for everything. And we have a little potting gear for you, too. So, we do a little senior project that we do.
And I'm >> I'd love to have that shared cuz I could tell you I've never seen that. Um chair, could we maybe put that on the new business to get a copy of that so we could have it in our ongoing materials maybe? Consider it on the list. Thank you, Mr. Badger. Oh, thank you. Member Webb. Um I just had a question. You said that there was some compliance issues. Did we already Have we priced that out yet or is that something new that has just come to light at Four Corners? There was about 12 items on a on an ADA compliance list that was about 10 years old and the school system's been picking away at the stuff and I I came on about three years ago and and did some signage on bathrooms and some things to get everything in the compliance but the last two items and we came up with some ideas how we and and move the uh move the nurse's area to a compliant area and do with some modifications and we're in the ballpark of 20 30 thousand dollars.
Um, frankly, many people are afraid to speak at these meetings or speak up against the budget because they're afraid of backlash on their children. I'm a mother of three children in the Canton schools and I really do want our schools to succeed. Um, supporting our schools though doesn't mean having an open checkbook and I don't believe the $375,000 cut that you received last night was large enough. And I don't believe I'm alone in that sentiment. I would like to speak candidly about a recurring frustration. Every time there is a proposed reduction to the budget, I feel like our teachers are the first threat on the chopping block. And that's not an acceptable place to begin looking for savings. Many of us have consistently suggested reductions be explored in other areas such as technology, uh, administration, central office, and transportation for starters. Uh, for this round of reductions, I would urge the board to, um, look seriously at their technology spend.
She's a phenomenal standout and a supporter. Her excellence in every single class she has taken is only that much amplified of how much she has humility and support for her peers. She wants everybody to succeed together. The student excelled with every single thing you put at her, from culinary events to catering to managing classes to filling in gaps to working with things that change at last minute. Her communication skills and her handle of the classroom tasks are above and beyond. She has a commitment to personal growth. She has a positive attitude towards learning and she's handled major events and last minute changes with style and grace. Academically, she has a pretty clear picture of her future and actively works towards seeking her goals. For our failing consumer science award, I'd like to recognize Michelle Buer. [applause] [applause] Our next award goes to a junior for the University of Rochester Xerox Award.
Um finally to our BA members, union educators like you are what make this district strong. You're a shining example of what's so special about BPS 101. You lift each other up, stand strong for what's right, and show up for your students every single day. I hope all of you get a chance to slow down and enjoy your incredibly well-earned summer break. Uh good night and good luck. And I look forward to seeing everybody tomorrow night. Thanks. Thank you, sir. All right, Holly. Do we have people wishing to address the board? We do. Okay. >> nine people. Okay. I'm sorry, 11 people. [clears throat] >> Okay. Good. Welcome to the meeting of the Board of Education. If anyone else wishes to address the board this evening, please see our recording secretary submit a form for addressing the board. Please put your full name and address on that form.
Maybe it's in year two or three, but at least being able to structure that plan going out in light of the contracts and where they sit as well. So I was anxious that we were even going to wait until after negotiations were done because I really felt strongly we needed to do this back in the fall. So I already feel like we're about 6 months behind, which makes me a little bit nervous. And I realize it's a new administrative team coming in. I've talked at length with Dr. Ketchatori also about the salary study and looking at the multi-year plan and crafting something which will be certainly on the new administrative team. But they can't do it without the accurate appropriate data and that's the piece that we're really missing. I just worry that, you know, since it's a public document, if people see that the, you know, this delta or something and we can't make it up right away, what does it do to morale?
